For $7000 a month you could go to the Louisville, Kentucky area and have a five bedroom, 5 1/2 bath, four car garage on probably two or 3 acres of land, and would be in driving distance to Nashville, Chicago, Cincinnati, Lexington, and Indianapolis! Not to mention the amenities in Louisville, Kentucky our world class!
William Lidster, All these flyover NYC newbies seem to move to NYC for their high paying jobs, that's why these apartments are so expensive. It's the usual 'supply and demand' scenario. Unfortunately, for them, these adults will still need roommates because the rents are absolutely ridiculous. Whatever these peolple are earning must be going into these $7000 a month rents!
William Lidster, These NYC newbies are moving into already gentrified NYC neighborhoods. Most formerly 'rough' and industrial neighborhoods in NYC have been gentrified long ago, areas such as Soho, Tribeca and now Long Island City in Queens and Brooklyn areas as Greenpoint, all have gone through massive gentrification. Pretty soon they won't be anywhere for working class native New Yorkers to live, they are being pushed out of their longtime NYC neighborhoods by these gentrifiers. These flyovers, and ex-pats from other countries, are willing to pay any outrageous rent just to be in NYC. That woman going to SantaCon appeared to be from another state, most native New Yorkers wouldn't participate in something as ridiculous as SantaCon! These are the types of people willing to pay these outrageous rents. A lot of these renters are trust funders, their parents are covering most of their bills. Because they aren't paying their bills, the costly rents aren't an issue for them.
@@VladDImpala I imagine they only stay a year or two or three and then move on to reality elsewhere. I've known three who went just for the experience of NYC one time.
Omg Charles's comment "you didn't break anything" was pure gold! & that wall that was hollowed out for the doorknob was perfect for Cash not to do it!!! That 1st apartment & even the 2nd u can keep. Even with outdoor space those heaters on the walls mean you're paying for the heat, not the landlord. I usually love Charles's places but I'd pass on that studio just bcuz I'm not climbing ladders to not even be able to stand in a sleeping area. I absolutely loved that 2 bedroom corner unit with all those windows in the living room. I liked some features in 1, some in another. Apartments in the city look mostly the same. Rents are astronomical! Last time I rented in NYC was on Charles Street (the high-rise) in the West Village. The rent was $600.(per person) and I shared with another person. It was 1971. It was a one-bedroom apartment and I had the living room that had a fabulous view of the Empire State Building from a picture window.
I'm pretty shocked that a one-bedroom high-rise apartment in NYC was 1200 a month in 1971. In 1967 my parents bought a five-bedroom, five-bathroom 1920s Spanish Revival house in Del Mar CA, three blocks from the beach, for $36,000 (and even though it was never kept up, it's still assessed at an absurd 6 million now) - something's not right with that 1971 NYC apartment rental rate.
