Great video Ninh But I'm not sure new is the right word here. From Wiki "Origin and early history Disc golf was first invented in the early 1900s. The first game was held in Bladworth, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1926.[7] Ronald Gibson and a group of his Bladworth Elementary School buddies played a game of throwing tin lids into 4 foot wide circles drawn into sandy patches on their school grounds.[8] They called the game Tin Lid Golf and played on a fairly regular basis. However, after they grew older and went their separate ways, the game came to an end.[9] It was not until the 1970s that modern disc golf would be introduced to Canadians at the Canadian Open Frisbee Championships in Toronto and Vancouver, BC.[10][11] Modern disc golf started in the early 1960s, but there is debate over who came up with the idea first. The consensus is that multiple groups of people played independently throughout the 1960s. Students at Rice University in Houston, Texas, for example, held tournaments with trees as targets as early as 1964, and in the early 1960s, players in Pendleton King Park in Augusta, Georgia would toss Frisbees into 50-gallon barrel trash cans designated as targets. In 1968 Frisbee Golf was also played in Alameda Park in Santa Barbara, California by teenagers in the Anacapa and Sola street areas. Gazebos, water fountains, lamp posts, and trees were all part of the course. This took place for several years and an Alameda Park collectors edition disc still exists, though rare, as few were made. Clifford Towne from this group went on to hold a National Time Aloft record."
You're not going to pay hardly anything for frisbees... this guy must have never actually played this game before and was just judging. Frisbees are cheap or free from nice locals and courses are in local parks all over Michigan so the game is always free.
It is indeed much cheaper. I've been playing for a few years and ended up buying a backpack ($50) to carry discs, and have about 20 of them. They cost $10-20 each but I don't have to pay each time I play. That's free in many places! Check out www.dgcoursereview.com/ for courses near you!
People can spend a lot of money on discs, but ultimately, that is up to you. 3 or 4 discs is all you really need (plus maybe a few back ups for if you loose a disc)... and many disc golf courses are, unlike traditional golf, free... that is where you really save money.
Well explained! Definitely covered what is most important to know before heading out to the course! If anybody is new to disc golf and is reading this comment, welcome to the family!
I've been playing for 22 years but it's nice to refresh on the basics once in a while to remember where you started. LOTS of awesome courses here Minnesota. I've played in Florida Arizona California North and South Dakota and Wisconsin.
THANK YOU! Finally a video that gets right to the point without over long intros and listening to people yap for 20 minutes before getting to the point.
Michigan is the place for this game. If you guys are interested, playing disc golf should always be free minus the cost of discs which range from ~$10 used for a decent disc to $35 and up. Don't buy at a store like walmart, go to a disc golf shop.
It certainly shouldn't always be free. It usually is, but at least here we have private courses that cost few euros to play. They are usually highly maintained, so people are happy to pay the small fee.
And besides... I've seen these chain type net contraptions in a city park along time ago and never knew what they were until my daughter-in-law just told me about frisbee golf. I had never HEARD of such a thing before! That just goes to show that we are never too old to learn about things! 😊😉
Excellent explanation! Love the various video clips and images you used as well. I’ll be sharing this with all of my non-playing friends to help them understand the game I love. :)
I've played disc golf hundreds of times. This video was pretty accurate. I'll just add that with regard to "throws", they all curve if given enough flight time. Due to gyroscopic precession a descending disc will tilt to the left for a right-hander's backhand or a left-hander's forehand, and will tilt to the right for a right-hander's forehand or a left-hander's backhand. The tilt that happens during the ascending part of the throw is more complicated and varies highly with the weight distribution of the disc (called stability). The beginning part of the flight (usually high speed and ascending) experiences a tilt called "the turn" and the later part of the flight (slower and descending) has a tilt called "the fade". Turn and fade have opposite tilts but turn doesn't happen if the disc has too much stability (more weight at edge than at center). Part of the challenge is to select a disc with the most appropriate mix of turn and fade properties due to its stability design so that its flight avoids obstacles or hazards along the terrain. DG is my second favorite sport after pickleball.
Very under rated sport people think Frisbee golf really , but if you have ever enjoyed throwing a football (American) or playing baseball or just enjoyed a causal game of bowling or traditional golf you may find this sport really fun to play, affordable and inclusive.
I'd love to try this sport sometime. I'm also pleased to see this sport grow and see that there is somewhat of a league that holds events! Maybe someday we'll be able to see televised Disc Golf games!
Already there! I think they stream pro games now, it's only a matter of time before this gets televised. Yeah you should really try it - it's a fun sport to play.
I freakin' love disc golf. It's a low stress environment where one can get outside, enjoy some fresh air and friends, and enjoy yourself. Thanks for covering this!
Good vid, love to see my sport get representation!! The only thing Id add is saying that after the tee shot, players throw in order of furthest away from the basket first, until the hole in completed.
Funnily enough, I had that in the original script - but when I watched the video footage, almost all of them shot out of turn. Especially if they all had their discs in the circle and then they all just placed their discs into the target. I left that part out because no doubt some smart-arse would have argued the other way.
Great video! I'm really glad that you chose to make one about disk golf. If you ever revisit topics and choose to do this one at some point. I think it would be worthwhile to comment on ratings of the individual disks (i.e. the number labled on the face.) Maybe explain how they work and also maybe explain how they came up with it.( I still don't know how)
Disc golf!!! All right now I know the name of this game. I live in El Monte CA pass by the Whittier Narrows disc golf course almost everyday and never bothered to find out what is that game they're playing with the baskets with chains and backpacks with frisbees in them. LOL you guys are pretty fanatic about this🕵😁✌✌

Not sure if they still do this, but many years ago when they installed a nine-hole course at a public park in Vancouver we tried it out with our cheap frisbees and found discs flying at us from all angles! When we enquired we discovered that the locals had made a ‘back nine’ where you played the tees and holes in a completely different combination, and several other nines to keep the experts on their toes. In this way they could play 36 holes on a nine-hole course without any repeats!
Thanks Scott. It's actually a pretty cool sport - they opened up a disc golf course a few miles from where I work, and it's a pretty cool game. In fact, that's what prompted me to make this video. Thanks for commenting!
I've been playing since 2003 and I even own a disc golf apparel company. Been hooked since the first time I threw. I hope you start playing and enjoy it as much as I have!! Honored for Disc Golf to be added your video series!
Oh that's awesome! Your own disc golf apparel? That's sweet! I've only been a couple of times with a buddy of mine, it's a game I could be pretty good at if I had the time to devote to it, for sure. Thanks again! 😀
One comment about making a 1 ... I would say most disc golfers usually call this an "ace" more than "hole in one". You might also mention the two main types of throws (backhand and forehand). Could also mention hyzer and anhyzer but maybe that's getting more specialized...
Coming back here because I'm getting back into fisc golf heavily these days. Such a laid back game - played in public parks, played at whatever pace you want, played with whomever you want...etc. My 80 year old grandma plays. Don't buy cheap disc's, go with one of the respected name brands (Innova, fiscraft, prodigy, Dynamic, MVP, etc). Disc's shouldn't be $35-$40 like I stated, those were just the most expensive disc's I'd ever seen. They are generally around $15+ these days but you can get a beginner pack of 3 for about $30. No need for alcohol or pot - disc golf is a great sport for anyone, any age group, any level of strength (it's all in the form, not the muscle). It's a good time.
if you are looking for another sport to talk about that is relatively easy to comprehend, then I suggest downhill mountain biking, or any type of mountain biking, but preferably downhill, since it is the most fun to ride, at least in my opinion.
Boys I have played 1 time the little wispy thing on the ground around the basket. I can’t go inside of that. What if my throat lands inside of the whiskey area do I have to walk outside of the marker and putt from there? Is that correct?
The city where I live has a nice 18 hole course that's just behind my house. I found some lost discs and started playing. I now have several discs and this is my favorite pastime now. Wait ohhh I just figured it out. Ninh is prob saying you're not allowed to STAND in front of where the disc has landed. The target is considered in front of you. You gotta stand behind the spot the disc landed when you make your next throw.
What do you mean, you can’t throw where previous disc has landed? Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do, where it lands you pic it up and through from where it was?
I’m in the camp of, it looks a little goofy but looks fun as hell so you can call me goofy. I wanna try this for sure. Any activity you can have a couple drinks with friends and not take it too seriously is the game for me. I’m tired of grown ass men picking fights in over 40 hockey.
If a disc lands at a spot, you then can't pick up the disc, take three steps forward and then take your next shot. Your next shot has to be behind where the disc has landed.
You’re missing out man! The chillest people, being out in nature, just having a great time with your best friends, talking and having a laugh, ripin discs out into the green while honing your hand eye coordination. huge variety of rad discs to keep in your pack or just on your wall with Lots with beautiful or insane designs. I grew up skateboarding, and hitting the parks with my buddies. Now I work in construction and don’t always have the energy for getting on a board. Disc golf is not what that rich guy in a Mercedes plays on the weekend with his business partners. It’s very DIY punk based in my area. Every course I’ve been to is free, often in a local park built by dudes who love the game and their friends.

Who the hell makes a $40 disk? Most pros even use pretty accessible equipment, hence one of the advantages over regular golf.
I've never seen a disc more than about $18. Cheap discs range from about $7-$10. The more you spend the better quality the disc in most cases.
The work you put in that video is insane, I can tell you edit for a long time, and it looks amazing!!!

It is indeedy, and it's growing in popularity by the week. It's like Golf, except significantly cheaper and less pretentious.
It's most popular in northern Europe and the United States, and like Ninh Ly pointed out, growing fast.

perfectly to the point. thanks

So is it the higher the number at the end of the game wins or vice versa?
You want to be the person who threw the disc less times to make it into the basket. The fewest shots made is the winner
How far can you throw before you can throw the disc
How far can you go I meant
You can go as far back as you like, but you cannot cross the mark where your disc has landed. (or the marker at the beginning of the hole).

I did. I explained the rules pretty much then. There really isn't too much more than that.
Thanks.
What if the par is 3 and I needed 5 throws? What is my score for that one then?
Your score would be 5, and that hole would be considered a double bogie
What do you mean you can't throw in front of where the previous disk has landed?

The only sport I'm good at
It's a cool sport to play for sure.
Maybe the most friendly sport on earth also a lot of fun to play.
Agreed!
But do they have titleist pro v1xs in disc golf?
No.
But we do have discmania d-line p2s.
Do riichi mahjong! That's a simple video, right? :)
Even though I'm Chinese, I only just about understand Mah Jong - but can't play it with any degree of skill.
Now THAT would be a tough one to explain.
I’m a golfer, never knew disc golf existed until now lmao
Anybody like me? Just skipping to the introduction panels to look at Holly?
That's the only reason I clicked on it.
Here I am, 3 in the morning, learning about disk golf...
So its golf with disc yay
Basically ... yes.
now that explains why i see those chain things above a metal basket
if you're a ball golfer, disc golf definitely scratches the itch
For sure!
I should play this, I don’t know why
It's fun ... and it's cheap!
I got this as homework
Okay great.
Looks very fun but did anyone else get click sites and think that girl was going to teach it 😂
Yes, clickbaited lmao
This looks like more fun than golf. Cheaper too maybe?
Cheaper, definitely!
@@NinhLyUK and more beginner friendly
Disc golf is also MUCH cheaper than ball golf. The courses are also not usually clear cut, and trees are very common
