the sibling to “throw more understable to get more left” is “throw higher to get more left”. i feel like we spend so much time trying to perfect our release angle for stock shots that we sometimes forget that giving a disc more air to work with can give it more time to finish if that’s what the shot needs.

Hey Trevor, with putting, I have to remember to grip the putter a lot harder than I'm naturally inclined to. If I don't, it A) doesn't come out with any speed and B) often slides off of my fingers, leading to it being extra nose-down. The amount of times I've hit dead center pole beneath the cage is too high. Good luck getting better.
I would recommend watching Gannon Buhrs putting video because he says the complete opposite. He is one of the best putters in the game and gets a ton of power while using a loose grip.

Well Sir Trevor Staub I had never thought about it that way on your last tip. When you gave break down on what you were going to do with Grace. I bag a grace and two halo wraiths that slightly flip up and go way right as a forehand dominant player. Thank you for making that make sense.
So the last three tips are the ones I have recently been working with actually as of right now and I’ve been at it for like 7 months now and number 8 specifically the thumb placement I have been playing with and noticing the different things it dose I’m glad that u confirm that for me, awesome videos and great information thank you
For tournament play the tip of play within your game, the 20ft putt, and shot variety (close to scramble, but different). Perhaps a caveat on the first two tips. During fun play and maybe even tournament prep, push the boundaries...this is a practice round by the way! We should be improving, so push outside the comfort level and see what you can do. For instance, I was playing a practice round with a RHFH dominate player. We were at a 300ft hole that I almost never birdie. Super frustrating b/c it is wide open. He asked about my forehand, and I had recently recorded my max distance with a FH at 275ft with an older Force. He convinces me to get outside of my little box and throw the FH with that disc. What! Bullseye! Birdie! This applies to the 20ft putt. Trevor is right practice that 20ft putt at home (100 putts per day); it does help. But on the course and especially during practice rounds before tournaments, run those longer putts. You need the practice, anyway, so run those longer C1 edge and C2 edge. When you are drilling 20fters at home, and you start hitting chains at 40ft, you begin to develop better aim, better strategy, and better scoring. Simon's tip for Uli - practice the 100ft putt so that you can start improving your C2 putting average.
thanks for the warnings on the putts in all honesty i appreciate this video. i certainly got some really good takeaways, notably rpms and thumb placement
I stopped worrying about my score when practicing and just focusing on how I effectively use each of my discs. Not worrying about getting birdies or making par, and just focusing on how I can bets utilize each disc helped improve my game drastically. I gained so much confidence on my throws and after 2 weeks I went from ending a game +11over to only +2 or +3.
Really needed the last tip. Been wondering about that shot for my game. Also thumb positions. Ty buddy. Since you’re in the putting woes… let me tell you how I get out of it. Forget about all putting advice you received. If you never heard about disc golf and you were at a carnival game trying to sink your first putt ever. Are you going to probably get much good at it after a few throws? Yeah. Is it going to look anything like what you did in this video? Nope. Nobody can explain to a baby how to walk. Baby’s gotta learn to walk on their own. Start about 3-5 feet from the basket but focus on max speed with just wrist. Forget about nose angle, left right whatever. All you gotta worry about is smashing the chains who cares if it bounces out. Just fingers and wrists. Make the chains as loud as you can. Smash em. Next progression. Pull back on the disc with your off hand while your putting hand is trying to throw the disc. Allow that tension to build up… that… thats where your power comes from. Let it go like slinging a rubber band. Notice you got a little more power. Little more confidence in your grip/release. Do that a few times and you have putting “snap” Then once you figured out your snap forget about your off hand and add a little back foot power. Whatever “form” you’re using at this point is your form. Thats enough to sink 50 footers with any putter. You just gotta start juicing putts and thats the key. Most power/ most efficiently. Step back to 25 foot. Its gunna feel real short and your gunna zoom past the basket at first but you got the glide on your putt, confidence in your stance/release/ and only a minor adjustment to bring it back to center. Then once you’re smashing chains from 25 too fast… dial it back to a reasonable speed. I went from most pathetic putter in my league to one of the best in about a month. Day maybe two to lock in the release. All you gotta do is get that putter up to speed and send it on its line. Let the disc do all the work. Youll find there is a range at which this will no longer have the power to get to the target without forcing it. Probably outside circle 2. Naturally at that point you have a standstill/sideways putt. That’ll get you another 100+ on the same line. Youll be wanting to putt from everywhere. TLDR 1. Lock in on your putting snap/rpms itll make your line easier to hit. 2. Simplify stance /limit any unnecessary movements. Smallest movements w/ strongest power. Be very efficient. 3. Turn sideways for super deep looks. 4. Dial it back. Find the balance between power and finesse. All of these “drills” will just help you find whats natural with your own body. Just smash it in there. GL
Only RPM tip I have for putting is to spin putt and make sure your stroke goes from at least 9/10 to 12 (ideally) but if you can learn the trajectory you can go past it. I also believe Calvin said his putt has so much steam on it from finger pop and you can practice and improve it by simply putting into the air while sitting down or doing anything.
@Tip 7, I moved from Florida to Pennsylvania and I got my absolutely obliterated during my first few serious woods rounds. It took a few rounds with the better players to realize that I actually did have the skills to manage the course, I just never needed to use them in big open fields. That said once the local bomber track opened up I definitely had plenty of comfort rounds playing out there throwing huge hyzers 🤝
You can take 1 particular disc and throw it several different ways and get it to land in the same relative spot. It's good to know all of the different shot shapes that each disc is capable of doing. My 2 favorite shots are a good flex shot, and a good hyzer flip shot. I also love a good roller opportunity.
or competitive play, talking on becoming a "master" of your division before moving up is huge. The biggest shift for me moving from a MA3 player to MA1 and some Open level play has been mindset. a phrase that stuck with me and helped me understand mindset as a rec player was "learn how to win." There is nothing wrong with playing for pars, but also if you get a chance to show off, do so. Executing a shot you know you are good at, that can be a challenge for others will boost your confidance. Reward yourself for accomplishing a goal is also a great tip. I had a goal to cash a MPO event this year before leaving for a deployment and did so iin my first 2 events in a crazy 2 C teir weekend where i shot both my best round and worst round of the season!
As someone that throws on a Hunter-esque natural hyzer, throwing somewhat flippy discs to go left (with actual distance) changed my game about 6 months after starting to play. It also forced me to learn a bit more about what the wind does to a flightplate 😅
The 20 foot putts are a game changer. I have a fairly small yard and got a practice basket recently so it's 20 ft max putts all over and it has revolutionized my game
See if you can get ya neighbour involved, then you could putt over the fence!!! I started throwing mine across my roof, pretend the driveway and garden beds are out of bounds...
Trick shot: scoober worked right away for me because feels like shooting a basketball. This is my first time watching you comment solo, this was entertaining and useful thanks.
Loved the video and the tips were awesome as someone just getting into the sport! Also, I was cracking up whenever you started putting, it’s nice to see that RUclipsrs are human too. :)
With the first tip, you made a very important statement - percentage. I am trying to focus on 'what is my high percentage choice?'. It might be to lay up when someone else would go for it. Playing for par might be the high percentage option over trying to get a birdie.
The 20ft put tip is something ive taken to heart. Becoming automatic from that range has helped with all my in circle putting. At 30 ft have to start adjusting my aim being at 6k feet.
Here's your putting tip: Do the Kevin Jones putt instead. Straight straddle putt every time, all the way out to at least the edge of circle 2. Once you get the motion down for that putt, you'll figure out your putt again.
10:30 This is a great tip!! Because of my home course, it enforced this practice, if you got off the fairway, it demanded scrambling. The Sinks, Chattanooga Tennessee. I dedicated half a year to only throwing FH rollers off the Tee, for casual rounds. I come from a broad spspectrum of athletic interests growing up, tennis and outfield Baseball helped me dail this one in. But on a wooded tunnel fairway course, I was able to find my landing zones and dial in the shot. People have Nicknamed me Rolling Rob. "Did somebody say Roller?" TM 😂
13:30 "....or a roller in the woods." I learned FH rollers in the woods. You sometimes only have a 15-30 ft landing zone where this "can" work. So often with root systems in the woods there's a digression further down the fairway. My idea, if you don't try it, you will never know what will work. There's only a few friends that will follow my lead, "Rollers, who's doing it?" Most would think that's stupid, but that's debatable.
Two things that helped me in putting is mental. 1. To make putts you gotta give it a chance. Aim to the back side chains so your brain doesn't try and fluff it short. 2. Gotta give it height to make it. So aim towards the top band
the spin tip sounds incredibly useful to me. i throw fairly hard with good speed but i don't always get a good snap. when i do, the disc definitely goes much longer. I'm going to work on this... Thanks!
I like to throw putter forehand rollers from the basket to the next tee pad to practice fun little lines and it has come in handy in the woods in tournaments
The last tip about understable to go left is so fun to use once you can control it. I use a beat in fission Wave (11 5 -2 2) on an uphill, right to left, 300ft shot with a lot of hyzer, and the amount of people from league nights that have told me "that's the most stable Wave I've ever seen" makes me laugh. It could be a roller if I needed it to be!
I have a square quarter mile park across the street from me. I take 2-3 disc with me when I take my dog for the loop. I throw at the basketball poles, the trash cans, and various other things. I also take my practice basket. My 100' game is on point. I need to throw farther though.
Thumb position can also push the disc more towards hyzer vs anhyzer. With some discs with a thin rim, you can accidentally release something on anhyzer cuz you're pressing down too far near the edge.
Play within your game is key. Even if that means laying up sometimes. I played my first tournament last weekend and got 3rd place. I've only been playing for two months. I was so successful because I played conservatively.
20-33 foot putts are what have gotten me a top 10 finish in every tournament I’ve played so far! My drive distance is not phenomenal. But I am fairly accurate in my placement. I play MA3 and most of my local competitors are slightly below my putting skill level. My putting has saved me countless strokes on competitors simply because I can make comebackers and testers semi consistently
Tip that has improved my 250ft and closer shots - don't focus your shot at the basket! Pick a disc and trust its flight. Pick a single leaf or branch and trust the disc will perform as it should to hit the basket. I found if I aim for the basket it will fly 40ft left (RHB)
Trevor you need to try bringing the putter back to you’re belt line and put a lil spin on it as you release flat (extending you’re arm)instead of where you are currently ( from thigh) with you’re arm already fully extended
Trevor, Regarding your putt: it'd be awesome to see you do a putting course with Scott Stokely. Cole Redalen got his confidence back this way, and Scott is an absolute legend - I think this would be great content.
Not for everyone but a throwing glove helps (me) a ton in wet and/or cold conditions. Also, again depending on course and conditions, a cart helps take pressure off my shoulders.
I know you don’t need my criticism, and you may already be aware of this, but one thing I’ve noticed on your putts is you generate the power with your legs then you wait just a tad bit too long to bring the arm through. I had a horrible habit of doing this and it caused me to hit the front of the basket or even the bottom pole nearly every time. On several of your putts, the arm and feet looked more like one motion and timing was much better and you made most of those. Also, think about using your hand to get the disc in the basket and less arm. Seems counterintuitive for consistency but just try it. Love your new channel by the way! Not trying to be Mr. Big Man with all the answers, I’ve just been through the same struggles and I know you are good enough to get through them as well.
I agree, draw your arm back at the same time as you rear backward, start your hips moving forward then start the throw as you lift your rear foot all with no jerky motions, smooth back, smooth accelerate forward
Trevor I greatly appreciate your educational videos. They have helped me personally. I am by no means an expert but watching you put your releasing on hyper. Try pushing your elbow down slightly. This May get a flatter release.
20' putt or between 5-7 steps from the basket which = 15-21 ft is what I wld say is the most important! Even 5 steps and shorter! I am normally cash $ in the circle but have struggles from 30'+ sometimes, but I take my in the circle putts all day!
I need to practice more 20 footers in my backyard! I really want to have a similar putting style to Gannons with out the left hip reach! I go to about my belt buckle and lift my back leg after I push off it, kinda like Simons putt! I have been making way more circle 2 putts which is awesome, but the problem I'm having is getting a better arm so I'm more able to reach a lot more holes at my local course! Which means I'm more often in circle one range which, I'm not complaining about! It's just that I can't make a single circle one putt! And my confidence is so thin that if I'm in circle 1 on the first hole and I miss the putt, I won't make another circle 1 putt the rest of the round! So I've started pulling back on my throws so I can hopefully score better which is something I don't like doing at all! I'm confident I could score a -10 on my local course. I probably have played that course 900 days of the past 3 years! My best round was -7 and I missed some puts and had some bogeys at, and at one point I was at -11, but there was a group ahead of us, and they had seen how well I was playing, they had to say say something before I putted, and of course I missed the 30 footer and I fell apart! Oh well at least I know what I'm capable of! I had 2 ace chain outs that day! We get a lot of snow in the winter and it gets cold! I suck playing cold! I would play it 365 days a year if it wasn't so cold and snowy! It's a great course all the holes have multiple pin locations and they just put in new benches and new PDGA sized tee pads which is awesome! So I guess its time to go practice some 20 footers in the backyard! My putting style does not work without confidence at all! So I got to go build some! Awesome video! I haven't even finished the video yet, and it inspired me to practice! So thank you! I'm positive it will help! Practice, practice, practice! And I've been working on backhand rollers as well and getting pretty decent, about 300 most of the time! I always throw it on the last hole no matter what pin placement! So I can call playing a round casually for fun, counting for a bit of practice if I do the same throw on the same hole Everytime no matter what! I've watched foundation for quite a a while now and I've listened to the podcast! There both great, but I've only watched this channel for 11 minutes and it has already made me want to subscribe! I'll never be bored of watching discs fly, it's fucking awesome!
I’m a chronic hyzer putter(recovering zone os putter) and I’ve started lining up my disc with the same amount of Annie as I hyzer and I’ve been able to putt flat. I’ve also been using a variety of different putters to practice so I’m forced to focus on angle of release.
I have a square quarter mile park across the street from me. I take 2-3 disc with me when I take my dog for the loop. I throw at the basketball poles, the trash cans, and various other things. My 100' game is on point. I need to throw farther though.
Taking my pointer finger off the rim of the disc while putting felt so weird but has instantly made me a better putter - went from far below average to slightly below average... Still translated to an extra stroke or two less per round!
Same here. I used to have to throw high, rainbow putts at 20+ feet. I took the finger off the rim like he showed in the other video and it’s not laser flat, but much lower in trajectory. Plus, I make a lot more shorter putts (15-20 feet) that before.
Something else I've been learning, as probably obvious as this sounds... Do the drills slowly, with tension, and in pieces. Was struggling with nose up and anhyzer releases. That only started fixing itself when I was looking at myself in the mirror slowly going through the out in out motion with tension in my arm at the correct height for a smooth nose down flat release.
Great video! I’m actually curious on camera situation. I can produce decent quality with my current situation but looking to upgrade. Not trying to break the bank too much lol any insight if you have the time is greatly appreciated.
15:14 Whether appropriate discs. How many of y'all have seen a good friend's disc Shattered against a tree in the winter. Just leave that at home for the season.
A big tip I learned to make more putts was aim little, miss little... I don't quite remember where I heard that tip but I'm pretty sure it was someone wise
hard one to decide, Im on the edge of my range and talent, do I go for the gold and the goal of just toss it at the base of the basket for a sure thing on next shot ?
Ironically one of the tips I've heard is "how you talk about your game matters" and specifically this person was talking about bad mounting your own putting at the time. If you think you're bad at putting you'll be nervous or otherwise feeling off and giving your body the wrong queues stepping up to your putt. It seems to help for me to at least not be negative so "I can putt better than this" or "i'm normally a good putter/better putter" versus "i'm so trash at putting" or "my putt is trash right now" all round.
I've been desperately trying to figure out how to put more spin on my disc. I'll try moving my thumb position tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see some results!
New to the game. I used to be a club golf professional. So it’s new terminology. But I’m Less than a month in and Im having issues with my forehand. I would like to see how you grip the disc and do you need to snap the wrist?
FWIW,,, especially since arthritis has taken it's toll on me, the wrist snap is critical. Not only does it increase distance, but wind does not affect the throw as much. 25' practice is what I used to work out to. Dont get upset. Dont let your mind get to you. Dont think yourself into missing a putt, hitting a tree, or worse, out of bounds or missed dog leg. Play conservative. laying up a shot is not a bad thing. One more item of mention that seems to raise it's head time and time again. Never tell someone 'nice shot' before the disc is on the ground, stopped. (little humor on that)
"Being a woods golfer".....bro why don't you just say "as someone who can't throw far" because that's what it really means. Guys like you aren't fooling anyone with that line yet you all think you are
You should start a series working on putting. Maybe get a coach. I’ve been really struggling with putting despite practicing nearly everyday for over a year. I really want to know if things can change haha.

Try tucking the pinky to putt and focus on your elbow being away from your body with the disc in. It will help with pop for the rpm on the putt

Well Sir Trevor Staub I had never thought about it that way on your last tip. When you gave break down on what you were going to do with Grace. I bag a grace and two halo wraiths that slightly flip up and go way right as a forehand dominant player. Thank you for making that make sense.
So the last three tips are the ones I have recently been working with actually as of right now and I’ve been at it for like 7 months now and number 8 specifically the thumb placement I have been playing with and noticing the different things it dose I’m glad that u confirm that for me, awesome videos and great information thank you
Great advice. Looking forward to implementing some some of these into my game.
Thanks for the pointers I’ve been playing on and off for years but really enjoying it a lot lately
this is the first video i ever seen with 0 dislikes im downloading this video and watching everytime i hit the field
thanks for the warnings on the putts
in all honesty i appreciate this video. i certainly got some really good takeaways, notably rpms and thumb placement
GL
I'd love to see you do a friction glove review.
Blond dude blows! Blows my mind with great content! Trevor, you're doing a great job, please keep going! And good luck with putting!
I also love a good roller opportunity.
hi trevor im new less than 3 months and this is super helpful
or competitive play, talking on becoming a "master" of your division before moving up is huge.
Good piece brotherman! Looking forward to trying the thumb trick.
Those two putts on hole 7 made my day
As someone who sucks but wants to get better I really appreciated this one
Loved the video and the tips were awesome as someone just getting into the sport! Also, I was cracking up whenever you started putting, it’s nice to see that RUclipsrs are human too. :)
Great tips, especially the one about out the RPMs. More spin, more distance … usually.
😂
Enjoy your candor.
❤
Love the tips.
Keep doing what you're doing!
Good stuff.
Got my career best today thanks to tip #2. Focused more on spin and less on power. My elbow was most thankful of that tip 😅
10:30
This is a great tip!!
13:30 "....or a roller in the woods."
I learned FH rollers in the woods.
You sometimes only have a 15-30 ft landing zone where this "can" work.
So often with root systems in the woods there's a digression further down the fairway.
My idea, if you don't try it, you will never know what will work. There's only a few friends that will follow my lead, "Rollers, who's doing it?"
Most would think that's stupid, but that's debatable.
I appreciate the regular content
Please do a video on how to generate more spin / rpm.
The thumb tip and the flippy disc to go left. Thank you.
Play within your game is key. Even if that means laying up sometimes. I played my first tournament last weekend and got 3rd place. I've only been playing for two months. I was so successful because I played conservatively.
I like the Macbeth approach to driving... which is basically I REALLY practice my approach and putts 😂
Trevor,
Regarding your putt: it'd be awesome to see you do a putting course with Scott Stokely. Cole Redalen got his confidence back this way, and Scott is an absolute legend - I think this would be great content.
A lot of good tips here, thanks man.
Not for everyone but a throwing glove helps (me) a ton in wet and/or cold conditions.
Also, again depending on course and conditions, a cart helps take pressure off my shoulders.
Here's a tip for u abt putting from the gr8 Philo, finish the putting stroke inside the frame of your body. Has helped me a ton hope it works for u
“If you’re a scientist” made me chuckle a bit
Wow I never knew that about the thumb 👍 thank you
Something else I've been learning, as probably obvious as this sounds...
Awesome video! You got this putting thing!! 😂😊
Great vid Trev!
"...elevation, if you're a scientist" - Terrific and entertaining advise. I'm excited to get back out there!

Whether appropriate discs.
How many of y'all have seen a good friend's disc Shattered against a tree in the winter.
Just leave that at home for the season.
thanks man - good tips to work with
A big tip I learned to make more putts was aim little, miss little... I don't quite remember where I heard that tip but I'm pretty sure it was someone wise
I like your humility
I wish we had a pitch n port in Tennesse
Never heard #10 will definitely try that
hard one to decide, Im on the edge of my range and talent, do I go for the gold and the goal of just toss it at the base of the basket for a sure thing on next shot ?
Ironically one of the tips I've heard is "how you talk about your game matters" and specifically this person was talking about bad mounting your own putting at the time.
If you think you're bad at putting you'll be nervous or otherwise feeling off and giving your body the wrong queues stepping up to your putt. It seems to help for me to at least not be negative so "I can putt better than this" or "i'm normally a good putter/better putter" versus "i'm so trash at putting" or "my putt is trash right now" all round.
7:38 Bro got so lucky with this shot!
I've been desperately trying to figure out how to put more spin on my disc. I'll try moving my thumb position tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see some results!
I m going to try this also!
(little humor on that)
Last one kinda blew my mind
Being a woods golfer, throwing understable discs in a lot of hyzer to get long panning shots has saved my butt more times than I can count.
Overstable on anhyzer works well too.
"Being a woods golfer".....bro why don't you just say "as someone who can't throw far" because that's what it really means. Guys like you aren't fooling anyone with that line yet you all think you are
@@soldieroftheway7979I'm a bit of a woods golfer myself 😮😉
@@joem13yearsago73 lol
you should talk to Robbie his drills have been very helpful. I might look strange leaving my hand where I released but it helps.
Imagine having a straight backhand be more reliable than a forehand 😂 good tips, thank you
Key to distance throwing is when you pull back let your arm follow then your head
You should start a series working on putting. Maybe get a coach. I’ve been really struggling with putting despite practicing nearly everyday for over a year. I really want to know if things can change haha.
I know you're not good at putting, but have you ever tried the Turbo Putt?
