    I’ve watched a lot of instructional videos and have never heard of the reaching for the pocket step. I honestly think that was the best video I’ve seen for a beginner. Can’t wait to get out there and try it! Thanks guys!

      Yeah I had never heard that either! I’ve noticed before that the pros arms are by their side when releasing but it makes it a lot easier in my head to get there by reaching for my pocket

    THIS is the video I’ve been looking for. I started playing about a month ago and have been devouring content. Almost every instructional video for backhand throws are about how to get more distance, not the fundamentals. I’ve hit the course twice and already have seen massive improvements. Can’t thank you enough, keep this series of vids coming, please.

    I've been playing for about 6 years and was maxing out around 300 with my fairways and a short run-up. I've watched plenty of form videos and when I first watched this I didn't think much of it but thought why not go back to basics and try out your method. My second time trying your standstill method I threw my midrange 300ft. I'm blown away.

    Thank you for the video. ive watched this about a hundred times and it didnt make sense until i got on the course and got several months of experience failing. after about 6 months of throwing and trying to figure it out i came back to this video and suddenly it all made sense. To all the beginners out there i have two pieces of advice. 1. Dont try to throw hard. start out at about 50% power. seriously. the harder you try to throw the more messed up youll be and you dont want to get into bad habits from the beginning. 2) stop using high speed drivers. get a leopard3 or something similar and use it as your main driver. trying to throw high speed discs from the beginning is a recipe for disaster because eventually that will lead you back into trying to throw too hard. so slow way way down and you will eventually be able to "feel" what youre supposed to do. Two thumbs up and 5 stars for the video.

    This is a fantastic video. I'm new to Disc Golf and just like anyone excited and eager to learn how to throw far and straight, I tried to incorporate the X-step way before I had the fundamentals down with a stand-still. I was actually losing distance, because I wasn't transferring power to the disc. I have just recently decided to re-work my form and this video has pointed out where my inefficiencies were. Thank you.

    Just picked up disc golf again after about a 35 year layoff. These discs today, and as a result the courses, are so much different than the old Frisbee golf we played, when I could just grab my trusty 143 g Frisbee and throw it pretty straight every time. This video is the best I have seen on backhand form, looking forward to practicing!

    I’ve watched so many videos trying to figure this out. Coming from ultimate, I just can’t understand the form despite watching many people throw and explain it. This video really broke things down into steps, and explained the form and how to achieve it. Extremely helpful compared to others which just tell you “reach back and rip it flat across your chest.” The analogies about reaching straight away, punching to the pocket to start the rotation, and elbowing through made me understand what I should be doing for the first time. Can’t wait to try it out, thank you for explaining each and every step!

  • @dwmichaels
    @dwmichaels 3 года назад +1

    a couple of things you showed but didn't mention. Don't extend your arm outside the frame of your body. It's bend the elbow in to the chest and extend out. It's not extend to the side. Keep the elbow at 90 degrees until extension. Also, follow through - like with punching, you don't punch to hit the object, you punch through the object. Similar here. You don't throw with the objective of finishing straight, you throw with the objective of finishing 90 degrees past your power pocket position. That way you are accelerating at the point the disc comes out and then slowing down afterwards vs accelerating into it and maybe slowing down as you get into the disc coming out. You also show Trevor in the reachback with his weight on his back leg, but he is balanced, not leaning over beyond center weight on that back leg. This helps keep his weight centered instead of flopping in an arc from back to front (coming over on the disc). This was a good video. Thanks for putting it together.

    This video is great. I hadn't played since I was a teenager which was YEARS ago. I tried what I used to do, which was rip it as hard as I could, and I think I injured half of my body parts. I picked up a Roc3 and Mako3 Champion (side note, the plastics are light years better than they used to be) and started practicing following these tips. My distance and flight path is slowly getting better, sometimes I still shank it, but by essentially doing the slow motion version my ~150ft shots are almost always perfect now. Thanks for making this. My tip, don't be like me, wait for a day when it's not windy as hell to try it out.

    That off-hand to the pocket tip is great! Never heard that before. In Baseball your gloveside is so often overlooked too, so figuring out exactly what to do with it during disc golf so gonna chain everything together so much better. In baseball you want to almost think about throwing up into your glove, and if you dont do that, then you lose consistency, accuracy and power because you basically only use half of your body. And that must mean the same fir disc golf! Thanks guys. Best channel by far.

    Snap happens because of the lower body up through the hips this is soooo true! I started incorporating the lower body just recently and I've been getting some pretty wicked snap sound that I never was getting before.

    I made it through half of this video only halfway paying attention and it has improved my form SO much. I heard the snap for the first time trying to copy this! What an excellent video. Safe to say I've seen it all the way through several times now

    Do everything he says here. Great tips and explanation. I did so much wrong for so long. It was very frustrating trying to learn how to do this while yanking on 14 speed discs after a long run up and watching the disc peter out at 200 feet, usually not even close to the line I wanted.

    Great Video. Thanks for this. It's a collective video of all the pieces I been trying to work on. Especially the punching the left hand, had to watch another video in slow motion to see it and start practicing it. Some videos mention it but none really teach it like you did in this one.

    I throw mainly forehand and am trying to develop my backhand and that pocket technique is so good.

    I've been playing a long time but still haven't fully figured out the "snap" thing. My absolute max is about 325' but I know I can throw farther if I get my form right. I found this video very informative and can't wait to work on perfecting my form.
