    While I have seen plenty of pistons shatter, that is the most complete shatter I have ever seen. I am surprised you guys did not explore the bolt you found in the girdle and the balance shaft weight. (unless the bolt was put there during disassembly). This is absolutely a shot in the dark but if the balance weight came off and struck the crank/rod, it may have created enough resonance to blow the piston up.

    • @himmihyme2665
      @himmihyme2665 4 месяца назад +2

    11:14 my best guess would definitely be rocker/valve related. Very common on both gr86 and GRY. These cars aren't built to be bouncing off redline. I don't plan on hitting redline until I get that rocker retainer kit installed.

  • @mpgcamo
    @mpgcamo 4 месяца назад +10

    I think you guys need uprated Valve Locks and Rocker Retainers to help keep the valves captive. Lamspeed keep these in stock. I would also recommend the Oil Pan Baffles help to maintain oil pressure under high loads and lateral and downhill heavy braking Gs. 5w30 or even 5w40 should be recommended on these GR Yaris and GR Corollas because honestly apart from fuel economy 0w20 just can't adequately protect the engine under heavy load.

    I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this was pre-detonation combined with previous heat cycle damage to the head and longer duration camshaft timing. The combination of factors is likely the culprit, it makes the most sense when considering the alternative possibilities. You can't really point a finger at one issue being the reason this happened.

    I think when you changed your oil you increased crankcase pressure and potential got blow by and compressed fuel and oil on the intake stroke. Than as piston 3 traveled to TDC it detonated your piston. That failure potentially put a mix of fuel and oil in the exhaust which cause the large flames. Thats my guess.

    This is terroble to hear. Completely doesn't seem like it was something you did wrong. Seems like the proper precautions and care were taken (correctly sized turbo with the factory pistons and rods). I've never heard of the seats dropping out. My initial thought was a misshift at one time fatigued a valve but didn't cause it to bend completely. Then, one day, the valve gave out from being a fatigued valve, aka very ever so slightly bent valve... but that would be an exhaust valve, not an intake valve, and that's not the case. And then we find out the seat dropped out, and that's not something that can be banged out and must be pushed from the back or pulled out... that's just unheard of. It's easy to just pass it off as a factory defect, and defects do happen, but that would be too easy and nearly impossible to be likely. This is just completely a mystery. Maybe the shop that ground them actually did something wrong. Maybe they heated them. Maybe they did actually remove them and replace them without your knowledge... I would say that is most likely the answer to the mystery. Next time, don't let anyone touch the head, and/or ask for a video of the work done on it. Regardless, good luck. Love your work, and always watching.

    I started to think that's not a coincident. All the G16 engines that failed were all Cylinder 3. By judging the head, the piston did smashed into the combustion chamber, the remaining 2 valves were pushed through the seat. I watched another Japanese video, that happened the same way, the guy said the piston disintegrated due to the coating technology that was used on the piston. Honestly, I think the G16 stock cannot handle anything over 400whp.
