Can't even lie, I've had leader knots break or slip and lose fish many times. But I paused this video and went out got some big game line and Braid to practice. 2nd try & I feel like I could pull a truck with this guy! thanks for the informative content man.
@@MillikenFishing love the instructional videos.. That's what separates you from every other RUclips fisherman you always take time to explain what it is you are doing and WHY you are doing it! The WHY is the most important part.
I love these videos. It slows down and shows important facts that we need to fishing. Weather it's knots, bait color to water color, what bait to use in what temperature or how to properly use what bait. It really brings you back to the fundamentals of fishing. I wish you did more informational videos like this one. Great job Ben
Hey Ben Good Morning! I was just talking to my daughter about your older video on knots and the funny thing is was going to share it with her this morning lol and here you are with a new one... I learned all about knots from you a few years back and I have to agree with Cole I use the palomar knot the most. Thank you for the tips and have a great day!
Been tying the crazy Alberto for a few years now. Seriously a game changer. I love the FG knot. But as you stated. Harder to tie. And more time consuming. I retie my leader at least once per trip out. This crazy Alberto is a legit knot. Casts through all my guides on all my spinning gear excellent. Even micro guides don’t mind it. I usually tie my 25 lb braid to 6-8 lb leader. I have never had one that was properly tied slip. Ever. Not a single one.
And lastly, thanks for showing the Alberto knot, I've been using the double uni because it's the only one my pea brain can seem to figure out but I'm definitely going to try yours!👊
Palomar knot cuts into itself too!!! I started tying the double uni knot. Double over your line like you showed simple uni and when you cinch it down you have to pull the main line and the tag end and give er that extra pull at the hook pull the tag end and she'll cinch down tight. I use it for braid mostly and leave your tag a little longer so you don't throw your bait off on a backlash. Simple uni for fluoro has been the best for me.
Definitely needed the dropshot tutorial, just getting in to that technique, and genius pulling the knot back through the eye so it sits upright like that.
Bro, I have been waiting for someone to easily explain to me what the best knot for braid to floro leader, also that drop shot knot as well.. thank you, excellent video.
I started using the double clinch for braid this year especially with frogs. I thought it was the same one you were using! Your use of the polamar knot on a dropshot helped me alot, wasnt sure what to use. Thanks!
i just did my own knot video and didnt even think of using an eye bolt for a larger demonstration that would make things so much better thanks for the idea for the next time i redo that how to
I’ve been messing up your lure knot for about 6 months now and it has been working most of the time. I have been taking the double line once I go back through the base by the hook eye and bringing it back threw the big loop like a fisherman’s knot. I will definitely be trying the brad to leader knot.
thank you!! finally somebody with some logic, what difference does it make if you leave a little extra tag end of line, what the fish are going to notice your half centimeter of tag end and somehow magically they don't see the 50 feet of mainline attached to the lure in the water. i don't leave 2 inches hanging off, but i do leave a little wiggle room, like you say in case the knot snugs down a little more it doesn't pull through.
Today is my birthday 🥳 any I enjoy watching your tips going catfishing and bass fishing later today! Plus my first 6th Sense box just got here in time to use later!
The double clinch or "shark knot" is my go to as well. Its simple and almost unbreakable. You dont need to pull it tight with the main line and tag, you can cinch it down with your fingers and it actually gets tighter throughout the day. Money knot.
Need to run a series of just tips called "just the tip" fishing tips with Ben Milliken. I can hear it now in an intro or signing off.. This has been just the tip with milliken fishing. Have a good one!... epic
I've never thought of the snail that way hitting the roof of the mouth before it gets set you have a very good point I always use it when I'm catfishing like with live bait or cut bait but I do use an offset hook or off set it myself and I'm sure that helps I've heard the snail called the trigger effect I know probably probably almost all knot's and usually use the fg I've used the Alberto before been awhile next time I have to retie and I'm out in the wind I'll use it anyway very educational video I figured I'd watch
If you can get the loop of a doubled line through the hook eye you can just put the tag end of the line through in one direct then back through in the opposite direction, leaving a loop to tie the palomar. Easier than jamming a double line through
a tip on how to start the double clinch knot that's easier with smaller eyelets or when your fingers are freezing, instead of passing the loop through just pass the line through quite a ways double back and go back through. so you end up with a loop through the eyelet but don't have to try and pinch or manipulate the line.
Hey Ben, try a snell knot on your Texas rigged tube. This bait has been a standard for many years for me but I have had improved hookups and can get it through cover better with a snell knot. It keeps the ewg hook upwards which helps tremendously in wood. And the knot doesn’t slip around on the eye of the hook. I’m gonna try that shark knot next year, I’ve been a trilene knot guy for decades lol
That Alberto Knot is Fricking cool. I can see how smaller then the Double Uni, it's 1/2 as big. The Double Clinch not bad either, saves a step from the Advanced Clinch. 👍👍
So what you’re saying is three years ago you taught me wrong about the snell knot? I blame you for so many missed fish now! Lol, always great to keep learning. Good teaching my man!
Love the variety of vids. Loving my waterland shades after getting lasik. Not sure if you have done a vid but would enjoy info on spinning reels and what's best.
I like to snell my flipping hooks but it a preference thing. For direct connect hook to main line i like a trilene knot. Its similar to an improved clinch but you run it through the hook eye twice.
All your tips and info are useful and appreciated. 👍 Question? How much fluorocarbon leader do you tie on beyond your main line? 4 feet , 10 feet, so on.
This is one of the best and clearest videos for knots I've seen thank you
Nice to hear someone else likes the clinch knot!
Can't even lie, I've had leader knots break or slip and lose fish many times. But I paused this video and went out got some big game line and Braid to practice. 2nd try & I feel like I could pull a truck with this guy! thanks for the informative content man.
Thanks for the video 👍👍. I prefer the Alberto knot to join my leader to my main line. Fish On!!
Tying better knots is one thing I’m planning to work on this year. Thanks for the tips.
Great video.. i needed a knot to tie on a leader now I have one.. just as you said I watched you do it twice and now I can tie it..
It's a great knot!

I thought I first learned this on your channel years ago when you came to oregon. Love that knot

Agreed!
Apperciate showing us how to properly tie knots bc I lost a big bass today and I was like I need to learn how to properly tie knots to fish
Thank you, this is very helpful in my renewed hobby.
Your tip videos and tournament videos were the reason I have been a part of your channel since the very beginning. Keep up the great work 👍

First time ever tying any leader knot, 3rd try with 10# braid and 8# floro got it dam near perfect. Easy knot
I use the palomer knot a lot but wanting to learn more thank you for the video
Needed a brush up on knots... thanks dude
I’m diggin the how to/tip videos.
i just did my own knot video and didnt even think of using an eye bolt for a larger demonstration that would make things so much better thanks for the idea for the next time i redo that how to
Using most of these. Thanks bunches
This video was super helpful, def feeling a lot more confident in my approach when I’m out fishing. Thanks Ben!!
Instantly retied my fluoro-to-braid with the crazy Alberto.

I suck at knot tying. That's why I'm a spinster. I should give that double clinch knot a try.
I suck at knots too, I have big clumsy hands. Try the palomar and the Alberto, pretty much all you need and I find them the easiest.
Love the videos. Keep em coming.
I have been wetting my line this year with a new invention to keep things out of my mouth.
Like it
