    I just had hernia surgery today. This method helped me immensely...I must also say good luck to all the women who are having there procedures done! I admit that you women have such strength and pain tolerance compared to men. You ladies are treasures and deserve nothing but respect and as a male I honor you all! God Bless!

    Thank you! This technique should be taught to ALL women before their hysterectomy!!! I'm going to tell my oncological gynecologist. No one showed me this and getting out of bed has been torture. I injured my back and my arm muscles in the unnecessary struggle. With this technique, my injuries would NOT have happened.

    Thank you! This video really helped me. I had a total abdominal hysterectomy 4 days ago. I was able to get out of bed alone using this technique 36 hrs after my surgery. You really need good arm and leg strength to do it. I did morning yoga everyday two months before the surgery, and I think this really helped a lot. I feel very flexible, and I’m walking much better than I did with my c section. Your channel is going to help me during this difficult process. Thank you!

    By far one of the most helpful videos I've watched since my abdominal myomectomy 4 weeks ago. I cannot thank you enough, Michelle! I received excellent care at the hospital, but oddly no one showed me how to safely maneuver one of the most basic activities post surgery: going from lying down to sitting up. I was struggling with this painfully and awkwardly trying to figure this out on my own until I came across your video, Michelle. Now I can sit up with ease. Many thanks!

    I had abdominal surgery and watched a fair amount of these videos and eventually came up with what works for me. Months later, I had to share this information with a friend and in rewatching the videos, I realized that none addressed every point quite right. I was just going to make my own video for her, when I saw this one. THIS IS THE ONE that hits all of the nuance that is needed. Thank you! Might I suggest that repost this video with a more general title, such as “How to get out of bed after abdominal surgery?” I do wish I would have found this for my initial search

    I am going to try, maybe. Lol. In the hospital t didn't show me how to get in and out of bed at all. Gei out was better than getting back in. I never slept in the bed again after I realized how much nicer the recliner was in the hospital bedroom and 1st day home, I'm in my recliner! I felt like I might have pulled something the first time I tried to get back in bed. My Dr told me I couldn't hurt any stitches but it sure hurt me for a bit. Thanks for sharing this,! Whatever you do, move slowly through the movement when you can.

    Hi & thank your feedback. Physiotherapists usually advise not to hold onto something to pull your body because pulling your body uses your upper abdominal muscles, potentially straining your internal wound. If momentum is used from the roll it is far easier after abdominal hysterectomy which makes moving even more difficult. Yes it can initially be difficult to lift and lower leg at the same time in which case we teach moving one leg at a time initially. Hoping this helps Best wishes Michelle

    I'm so glad I found this video. I'm actually doing okay getting in an out of bed. My mom has had two hip replacements so I have been doing what she was taught to do since the hospital didn't show me how to get in and out of bed. My problem is that I am a left side sleeper. I'm five days post op and not sleeping very well because I'm having a hard time turning onto my side. I'm a a very large woman so movement isn't the greatest under normal circumstances. I'm wearing the belly band to bed. I'm just super afraid of hurting myself when I try to roll to my side and try to get comfortable. Any advice?

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  3 года назад +2

      Hey Tammy yes the rolling is challenging for sure. Just try not to twist through your trunk as you roll - having a pillow between the legs and/or held against the abdomen for support while rolling can help too. The slower you move the harder this is so try not to move too slowly if possible, all the best for your recovery!

    Just had a lap Hysterectomy. I cannot do this. I cannot roll onto or lay on my side at all. No way.

      Have you tried holding a cushion or pillow against your lower abs as you try to move for external support? This can help some women, all the best

      Me too I had a total hysterectomy a week ago and I can't do that. I literally can't twist my arm for support. Too painful

      Same here. I can only sleep on my back in a sitting up position with pillows all around me. It's been a 9 days since my surgery. I haven't left the house yet either.

    I had an abdominal hysterectomy 2 weeks and 6 days ago and am still using this method as a precaution but when can I just sit up and lie strait back in bed like normal? I am recovering well. I still have swelling should I wait until the swelling goes away?

    will pushing your weight open the wound again? really cautious about doing this 3 days after laparoscopic virecocelectomy on my left side.

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  3 года назад +1

      Shouldn’t be an issue - you may find keeping your left side up and pushing up through your right side most comfortable, all the best for recovery!

    what if you don't have any upper body strength?

    • @michellephysio
      @michellephysio  7 лет назад +2

      The less upper body strength you have the more challenging this is without doubt. Trying to combine the roll onto the side straight into the sitting up sideways action helps to maintain momentum and reduces the amount of upper body effort required. This takes practice!

      @@pratisthapandey8525 If you cannot even sleep for 1 minute and you were 4wpo at the time of your comment that would mean you'd spent 40,000+ minutes awake. If you have not died due to brain damage, you should contact the Guinness Book of World records as existing the record is 11 days. Congratulations on your achievement and I hope you got some rest and aren't dead.
