Fishes don't necessarily suffocate when on the surface, as long as their gills are wet they can absorb the oxygen and not suffocate

I love hammerheads so much! Incredible creatures but HIGHLY susceptible to stress and anxiety. I wouldn’t have been able to refrain from telling him I love him but no doubt this took a tremendous toll on him 💔 sweet baby didn’t know any better
I’m glad he was released safely and he swam off quickly. Not what we were going for!! But what an adorable surprise. I hope he gets huge ☺️.

There not much evidence supporting that claim. Almost all fish survive being put back in water without injury. The Hammerhead isn't any different.

That’s the one species of shark that I have always wanted to catch! I don’t care if it was smaller than this pup. I have caught more than I ever want, of other species, by accident and released them.
