I love that you went slow and repeated instructions each row. Finally a tutorial we can follow!! And I love the way you hold your working yarn between two fingers for tension instead of the wrap around pinky and index finger, which I have never been successful with. Excellent video!!! Thank you for making this tutorial.
This is the perfect square! Love the hdc, not joining in chains , and knotting the yarn. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been crocheting over 63 years. Always ready to learn more! 😊

Best tutorial ever!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Steps: 1. Create a knot which will be the center of the granny square 2. Chain 2 3. Create 3 double crochets (1st set) 4. Chain 1 5. Create 3 double crochets (2nd set) 6. Chain 1 7. Create 3 double crochets (3 set) 8. Chain 1 6. Create 3 double crochets (4 set) 7. Find the third double crochet of the first set you made in step 3 and create a half double crochet to complete the gradient 8. Change color and repeat steps 2-7 till the size the granny square you desire Remember to only chain in the corners

This video is so so helpful. I started crocheting 2 days ago and I am a left handed person. And this is the only square I was able to do (out of all videos I saw rill now, even of left handed people) that too with colour change. I used pink and red thread only and it came out looking like little hearts. I am going to make a full cardigan with this square. Thanks a million. ❤❤❤❤
This video was amazing! I’ve tried so many granny squares and failed this is the first time with this tutorial I was able to actually make one! Thank you!!!!
I’ve been crocheting for about a month now and I was able to use this tutorial for my very first granny square. You explained everything well, step by step just the way I’d prefer. I’m 4 granny squares in and I’ve moved on to changing colors as well. Thanks so much for this! 😊🧶🧡
This is the best granny square video as you make front and back look equally the same. So much easier to get rid of ends and it’s so clean looking. Thank you for rescuing me from granny squares LOL

I have been trying to learn the granny square for a year and i didn't under stand any other videos but I finely watched this and got it. It is super helpful for beginners and more advanced crocheting people. Ty some much
I’m a beginner at learning how to crochet and found your tutorial and I am very happy with how square came out! Thank you for teaching me how to make one!
I am making several of these for a jacket and when ending the row with a half double instead of yarning over and coming thru with a whole stitch I just slip stitched thru the 3 and it worked beautifully 😊 also made it a little less thicker on the ending corners. I love this way of the granny square I love that there's no ends to weave in not many tie knots but I believe in securing so I tie the knots lol. Thank you for this tutorial❤
This Granny Square pattern is by far the best one I have ever used! Granny squares were hot when I was a teenager back in the 60’s, and I made quite a few projects using them. Apparently they are back in style again because my granddaughter asked me if I could make her a Granny Square afghan for her college dorm room. I figured there must have been some changes, improvements and innovations to the pattern over the past 60 years, so I jumped on RUclips, and sure enough there are plenty of patterns. I tried a few of the channels, (all very good) but THEN!!! Then I found your channel! Your pattern totally eliminates every one of the things I don’t like about Granny Squares: the holes were too large, it was one-sided, the color changes and row transitions were awkward and usually noticeable, and the millions of tails to tuck! It’s a winner in my book! I thank you so much for sharing it!! Also your tutorial is excellent, you are a born teacher. My granddaughter will have her Granny Square afghan🎉🙏🏻💛😄
Thank you for having a plain dark background makes it so easy to see what you are doing! Love your knot method too and you make it it so clear what to do! Bravo!!!🎉❤
I’m learning how to crochet and this was the most helpful video that I actually understood out of maybe 15+ videos I’ve watched. I learned more stitches in this 30 minute video than I tried to learn when watching a 20 minute video with the very basics of crocheting. Thank you so much!
🌺🌼🌺THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! ... FINALLY, A GRANNY SQUARE THAT MAKES SENSE TO ME... YOUR TUTORIAL WAS FANTASTIC... I UNDERSTAND THE WAY YOU TEACH, SO, KEEP THEM COMING ... 🌺🌼🌺

I looked all over youtube for videos to learn how to crochet a granny square and I just couldn't figure it out until I came across this :) thank you! I hope you continue to do teaching videos just like this for complete newbies because your teaching style and breakdown is fantastic!
I've started doing crochet just a couple of days ago and this is the first granny square I managed to complete! Thank you very very much. Your instructions were amazing 🥰
Not board at all. I’m crocheting with you. Love that you go over stitches over and over. This is one of the best instructional videos of a granny square. Thank you for giving every detail for the beginners or the ones like myself who pick up crocheting every 6 years.😂
❤To make this granny square is a classic work of art, that will be enjoyed for many years to come in my crochet routine. Thank you for your time in helping the crocheting community with your technique. I enjoyed your tutorial as well learned from it. ❤❤❤🧶🧶🧶🪡🪡🤲🧵
Thank you. Your instructions were amazing. I am a complete beginner at Granny Squares and very new to crocheting. After watching several other video's and getting VERY confused...... I'm so grateful to you. This is the first time I've made something perfectly. Your instructions and video are super clear. Hope to see more granny squares of different types.
Thank you for this easy-to-follow granny square tutorial! I am a beginner and your video has helped me finally learn this technique! I've watched many other videos but yours is the best, by far! I'm well on my way to creating my first granny square project! Thanks so much!
Hi Charlotte. I am working on thelast few rows of a rectangle granny for my nieces daughter. I've been trying your easy way. ....i love it. I wish i had seen this video a month or so ago. I love your tutorils. You are an awesome teacher. Im so glad you are back.
So, 3 days ago I learned to make a magic circle. 2 days ago I learned how to make a double crochet. I skipped the next day. Today I made this square. Excellent job making this so simple even I could complete my very first granny square on day 3 of learning. Thank you!
It does look like I may have begun it trying to crochet with my feet, but I can see the progress I made through it. I learned how to fix it when you cut the wrong thread. I learned that having matching yarn sizes is likely a good idea. I learned so much! I love my square. It's not nearly as pretty and perfect as yours but I did it! I learned to make my first granny square!
I've been crocheting a while now (12 yrs now!) but it has been a while since I made a basic granny square. So I began searching for a tut bcs I found out when I started making one a cpl of days ago that I wasn't quite comfortable w/ the ones I was making! 🤔 It turned out that I didn't even have one saved in my Beginner's Crocheting Playlist. How could I have been so neglectful! 😒 In looking through a LOT of vids, I finally found yours, and to find that I was Already a subscriber, well, that was a bit perplexing. In any case, your video tutorial was EXCELLENT. It was as I remembered how to do mine, w/ the one chain gap in the corners & no spaces in between on the sides (you know what I mean). What I had been getting in trouble w/ was how to finish the rounds, whether or not I was changing colors, & WHERE, whether it was on the side or a corner. Sometimes it's those details that make or break what your finished project will look like. AND, finally, you're absolutely RIGHT: you NEED to turn on every round of the Granny Square. Crocheting's stitches have a natural tendency to lean, to either side of whatever side you crochet, left or right hand. When you turn and go in the opposite direction from the one you were previously going, you "neutralize" that leaning of the previous turn. And each turn IN turn neutralizes the previous turn, etc. In the end you will have a perfectly balanced square! 😍
This was so great and easy to follow!! Thank you for not fast forwarding! The color changes also made it so much easier for me to finally understand the rounds and where to place my stitches
I just made my first ever Granny square thanks to your video! Your video was the first that I felt like went slow enough with directions I could actually understand. Thank you!
This is the perfect granny square! I won’t even have to block my squares afterward I think. I really like the method you used to get started. It’s much easier than the way I had been originally taught.
THANK YOU!!! I've tried several tutorials and end up chunking my work. This, I can do and have nice corners - including the last corner of each row, I've crocheted for many years but couldn't master the Granny Square, until your tutorial!
I’m not a beginner but for some reason I couldn’t remember how to make a granny square. This is not the way I learned but I like it so much better. Thank you!!
I absolutely love this video! I’m a beginner and need easy walk through in learning. You did everything I could possibly ask to feel comfortable making this square. Thank you so much! Please make more videos, I’m eager to learn 🥰
Thank you for this tutorial! I've been experimenting with various methods of crocheting Granny Squares. I really like this more snug (less holey) method, turning to keep the square straight, and especially, the "almost no tails" to weave in. ❤
Hi from Cornwall, UK. I’m 77, but have problems with trying to keep yarn in tension, but looking at your hand, an easy way! I shall try your way of holding the yarn tomorrow, Video is great!
My grandmother used to make big granny squares like this, she never made small squares and joined them up though, instead she just used to keep going and it ended up a huge blanket, so cosy.
Thank you so much for this video! Your voice is so very calming! I am 64 and very new to crochet. I was lucky enough to inherit 3 totes of yarn, books, and patterns from my deceased sister in law Gail. I have some of her unfinished projects that are just beautiful. Gails projects and your video have inspired me to crochet. Thank you so much for making it look easy!
thank you so much! i was trying to follow along to a granny square pattern in a book i was given and just could not figure out what they wanted me to do lol. they wanted me to start with three chains and turn that into a circle instead of doing the magic circle like you did and it was just so confusing for me. your way was so easy! thank you so much for posting!! 🩷🩷🩷
This is one of the only crochet tutorials that I have ever successfully followed along too thank you so much this was very helpful I can't wait to finish my project with these ♡♡
This is The best way I have ever seen to do a granny squeeze. Thank you so much. that I would like to see. on how to. do it. continuously in one color. Thank you.
A great tip: don’t focus on the names of each stitch or chain. Instead just exactly copy every single movement, you’ll start to notice with each new chain of colour she does the same thing. Then you start pausing the video and get that kinda muscle memory that you already know what she’s about to do!
@TheNervousKnitter Thank you because of you I can finally make a granny square I love that you slowed it down and explained perfectly how to do everything ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! Granny squares stress me out. Not anymore! And weaving in ends is just ugh! Best explanation I've seen and easy to follow along. I can now see a granny square cardigan in my future 😁

This video is amazing thank you so much for all the time that you spent in the making of it. I’ve never been a fan of granny Square because I thought it had too many holes in it and I personally like a more solid fabric so I have never made a granny square. I decided today I wanna learn how to make them and your video was perfect perfection it lessons the amount of holes it’s quicker. I really like turning the work thank you so much again for this.
Thank you for such a great tutorial - I really love the idea of knotting when finishing a round - and you make it so easy to change colors - looking forward to the next one!

I will see what I can do… thanks for watching… ❤️
I’m not a beginner but for some reason I couldn’t remember how to make a granny square. This is not the way I learned but I like it so much better. Thank you!!
Thank you . This is the easiest I have found and I finally am proud of my First Granny Square❤
Thank you so much. Iv been crocheting for decades but never do Peggy squares cause I hate starting them. The magic circle is a game changer 😊
Thank you so much for this video
You are a great instructor
Can’t believe I’m making granny squares!
I don't even have yarn or a hook yet and I'm just sitting here learning. You're a great teacher 😊
My grandmother used to make big granny squares like this, she never made small squares and joined them up though, instead she just used to keep going and it ended up a huge blanket, so cosy.
Thank you because this is my first time learning to do the granny square.
I can only imagine how fast you could create a square if you weren't going slowly to show how to do it. Great job.
I do love your patience. I was dreading having a go but l shouldered on and now l have almost completed a granny square 😅😅😅
Thanks for sharing your granny square version and tips. It is good to have many tools and options! Beautiful work!
Thank you… ❤️
This is one of the only crochet tutorials that I have ever successfully followed along too thank you so much this was very helpful I can't wait to finish my project with these ♡♡
This is The best way I have ever seen to do a granny squeeze. Thank you so much. that I would like to see. on how to. do it. continuously in one color. Thank you.
Ive never crocheted, lol I enjoyed watching this not understanding any of it, it’s like trying to comprehend an entire sport I’ve never seen
A great tip: don’t focus on the names of each stitch or chain. Instead just exactly copy every single movement, you’ll start to notice with each new chain of colour she does the same thing. Then you start pausing the video and get that kinda muscle memory that you already know what she’s about to do!
Very, very, easy to follow!
You are so amazing, thank you for sharing your gift.
@TheNervousKnitter
Thank you because of you I can finally make a granny square I love that you slowed it down and explained perfectly how to do everything ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this really amazing and well explained tutorial! This makes it so easy to make granny squares without being confusing!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! Granny squares stress me out. Not anymore! And weaving in ends is just ugh! Best explanation I've seen and easy to follow along. I can now see a granny square cardigan in my future 😁
This is the first time i actually understood how to make a granny square, great video ❤❤👍
This tutorial was magnificent! So helpful - thank you!!! Can you please make a video on how to connect all of the squares into a blanket?
God bless you...for sharing the granny square
This e I don’t know what I don’t know how to operate this thing❤❤ love this pattern. Thank you for sharing.
I really appreciate watching your lovely work which I get. I need help with the magic ring and the first round. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for sharing. I am brand new to the world of crochet and your videos are the only ones I can follow along with and clearly understand. You explain everything so well! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for sharing this, I love this tutorial so much, it's probably one of the first that I have actually been able to keep up with 😅. I really appreciate you going through each step with each separate colour! Thank you so much!🥰🥰🥰
This video is amazing thank you so much for all the time that you spent in the making of it.
Thank you for the knot hack!!!! I despise weaving in ends lol
Thank you I have always had a hard time with granny squares.

Thank you for such a great tutorial - I really love the idea of knotting when finishing a round - and you make it so easy to change colors - looking forward to the next one!
