  • Max and Ryan compare the only two truly compact electric hatchbacks on sale in the US (excluding the Nissan Leaf) - Fiat's revised 500e for 2024 and MINI's somewhat dated but still good-looking Cooper SE.

I like hearing the birds. I looked at the Mini SE. I ended up getting the Ioniq 6 for 38K and love it. Both the Fiat 500e and Mini SE look great.

Man cars are allot cheaper in the USA. It's almost 60k for that car in Canada

@shawnjanisse3523 Agreed Shawn, the Volvo EX30 is much more expensive in Canada also, and the difference is considerably higher than the exchange rate

We have the Mini SE and love it! Although, charging to 100% is an important part of the daily routine our apartment has a charger in our apartment parking spot so it works great. We have a 2013 gas fiat 500 and we love that car too but we fight for the mini se. So fun!! We even road trip it...LA to Vegas....LA to San Diego....We want to do more....The Fiat 500e does look cute, but the fun factor on the corners in that Mini SE is higher than is easy to explain.

Fiat is $10K overpriced, otherwise I would definitely consider it.

This Fiat 500 e (RED) is one of the lower trim if not the lowest, the RED trim is smart way to sell the basic car with some red stitching and piping, hopefully you get the Giorgio Armani or Bulgari trims then compare it with the top trim Mini.
The top trim Fiat 500e is completely different materials inside and very nice colours, that's why you see the push button door.

New JO1 Mini Cooper BEVs are initially built in China and the gas engined versions at Oxford in U.K. After 2026 the BEV will be built in Oxford too. Reason is that the two cars run on different platforms - gas ones have the new body on the F56 Mini platform while the new BEV runs on a new platform. The Oxford plant is being rebuilt to run both gas and BEVs but won’t be finished until 2026 then you will get JO1 BEVs in the USA.The new JO1 BEVs are assembled in China by Great Wall Motors who make the Ora Cat cars. I just changed my 2021 Cooper S E level3 here in the U.K. to the new Countryman U25 S E BEV and it’s wonderful!

Love the review! So glad to have these options for electric cars. I currently have a 2018 Fiat 500 and just love it so I've ordered the rose gold Inspired By Beauty 500e. It has a much nicer interior. I can't wait!

Thanks for this excellent review! I’m actually looking for a 2nd small ev jus for drive around town and I been thinking of the mini se for a long time but I love the Fiat 500e . Nowadays you can buy a preowned 2022 / 23 Mini SE w low milage for $23,000 so I either do that or wait to buy a pre owned Fiat 500e at the end of 2024 / 25 . Thanks again , love your reviews

3 modes Fiat 500e: Normal, Range (has one pedal braking) and Sherpa (love that name) is a super economical mode.

Food for thought in the interest of "keeping it real". Heat Pumps in EVs are more efficient. Rivians and Fords do not have heat pumps. When Rivian and Fords adopt heat pumps, our beloved large frunks will be greatly reduced (a trade-off that WILL happen). Brands/vehicles with heat pumps are: Nissan, Chevy (GM), Toyota Prius HEV (that surprised me), BMW, Audi, Tesla, Porsche (part of VW Group), Skoda (VW group), Hyundai Group (including R1S' direct competition the EV9), and Jaguar (Tata Motors).

The point is that in Europe for the price of a new version of the Mini with ~40kWh battery , you can buy a Fiat 600e with a 54kWh battery or you can save and buy a base 500e which is 17% cheaper and still has a bigger battery. Or if you're not in a rush, you can wait until summer for the Renault 5 E-Tech or Citroën ë-C3 if you're looking for a city EV. In this segment, in some markets, the Smart is also sold, but it has even higher prices than the Mini.
Also, if you are not just looking at size, but at price segment in your market, then the Volvo EX30 should not be ignored.

  • @buddy1155
    @buddy1155 Месяц назад +1

I like them both, but would definitely pick the Renault 5 E-tech (that probably isn't going to be sold in the US)

Oh, so your girlfriend is the other SE in BRG with white bonnet stripes in Northern Colorado. I'll wave at her from my doppelganger car when I see her. I absolutely love mine! Named it Moss (IT Crowd reference + the color)
Can't beat all of the tax credits and incentives available in CO. Picked mine up on Jan 1 with $11,900 lease incentive + $7500 state tax credits. $20k off a car is insane!!

I wish they had a back seat delete in the Fiat and add about 10 kwh of battery.....just to give it a bit more usable range....I live in the DFW metro area....which is about 110 miles across....and I pass a lot of old Fiats and Chevy Sparks and Smart cars , and Mitsubishi Mirages..... I do own a Fiat...and use it on vacation driving. I have heard the coming new Mini is supposed to have better range.

The worst insult I was ever told was I look like I would drive a Fiat or Mini.
It obviously varies with such a huge population, but I get the feeling many people would be embarrassed to be seen in these. Or at least wouldnt pay thousands for the opportunity to drive one.
Im suprised both Brands are still in the US. Mini only sold about 30k units last year and I believe Fiat only a few hundred.

New cars typically have lighter, safer hoods, so you have to press to close.
