I threw bargain basement PETG in I'd never used before, printed someone a Satsana duct for someone, even freakin m3 nut recesses printed vertically with no supports were absolutely spot on perfect. Default PETG profile but just had to up the bed temp to 70C intstead of 60C, no flow tests, retraction tests, no esteps, no bed leveling, nothing else otherwise. It's an amazing printer.
@@chubscub That's not me, I call a spade a spade. Not sponsored, didn't get one for free, etc. Too damn lazy and busy to get into any of that. I barely even post on youtube, just my FPV drone flights when I feel motivated enough. lol
My X1 Carbon arrived yesterday, so I've only done a few prints, but it's crazy. It's so fast and accurate. I'm very happy with it, and I got the early bird backer price. The one downside so far: the internal led illumination is quite dim.
Quick printing tip: If you want to reduce support material, add a detached simi circle frame or arch, below the support area. The semi circle doesn't need support but the support structures will print ontop of the semi circle or arch. Just ensure your settings overhang angles are correct. The arch provides a space between the base an the area that needs support but uses a ton less material.
As Angus said, 3D printing has been so accustomed to cheap and mediocre printers for so long that products like these rattle the entire industry. Which is good! We need people to come along and shake things up and show that we don't have to settle for poor performance and poor reliability (and cumbersome tinkering to get even a baseline level of functionality). We CAN and SHOULD be able to print things smoothly, quickly, and easily.
Agreed! Bambu Labs has thrown down the guantlet. I have been 3D printing for 4 years now and printer tech, at least at hobbyist/entry professional level, has been stagnant. It's time for some competitive innovation!
I would guess that layer issue may be a cooling thing. When it is printing SOOOO fast you may not be able to get enough cooling and will deal with a bit of layer warping causing that ringing you see?
Could be the case - if so this is also an easy software/slicer solve, slowing down the top layers wouldn't add too much time and if it improved the appearance then we'll worth it. I'm a little skeptical tho, as it seemed the top layers were actually a different shape - like where they kg have been concentric circles they actually look more like topography.
@@dylanevans5644 Yeah I have no clue honestly, but I figure the speed is a good place to start when diagnosing on it. Could be resonant vibrations or something really esoteric, but might as well rule out the tough stuff first!

Might consider this as an upgrade. Just got into 3d printing a few months ago and recently started selling things. Looking to get something better and faster than my Ender3. I was leaning towards AnkerMake but might get this instead.
Great video. You covered everything really well, even twice on some things, and I like your delivery & presentation. I'm looking forward to when they get more of these in stock. The Prusa XL is out of stock as well. Trying to be patient.
Keep us posted if they add the filament load function and the memory function for storing sliced projects in the printer. I will order one once these have been sorted out. Thank you so much for the video showing the good & the bad.
Hi did you know you can access your sliced files from the bambu handy app and send it to the printer that way instead of reslicing? It’s in your history
That right there makes it a no-buy for me. How a $1k+ printer wouldn't have functionality as simple as swap filament is beyond me. This means you're unable to use the color change feature in PrusaSlicer. All of my prints are 4 or more colors, but I prefer to manually change filament instead of wasting material. I was just about to buy the X1, too. Shame.

I've had occasional issues with reprinting files. I think it has to do if there is an error sending data from bambu cloud. Agree with the 300mm cube, really wished the machine was larger for the occasional large print. Also, get some sewing machine oil with a long straw tube applicator: my idler bearings have started squeaking and they are a pain to lube because of how enclosed the machine is.
Gotta love FedEx. Glad that it was the beta unit you were returning and not yours from the campaign. And fast is good, but the biggest draw for me is the reliable part. Sure, there are issues but it still appears to be more reliable than a lot of the available options out there and it seems to work near flawlessly with a wide variety of filaments. I can't wait for mine to arrive and yes, I agree that a 300mm³ or larger build volume would be amazing.
If i get this i would get the ams, not for doing multi material prints but to be able to do different prints of different materials without having to change them, using the rest of a spool and continue with another etc.
Did they ever address the load/unload function? Also, the top layer quality, was that ever fixed theough an update? I am considering selling my makerbot method carbon to get the multicolor machine because i am tired of keeping journals and setting timers for filament swaps to change out the color. Wow, talk about an enthusiastic review! But, I would have liked to see a comparison from other printers on that curved top layers issue to see how much is a slicer vs printer problem, and some more specifics on the "speeds and feeds" that it's using, again for comparisons to other printers, particularly other CoreXY configurations..
since im planning to print figures with this printer, im a bit worried that there wont be a 100% solution to that ugly curved top problem :/ is it still there when you print with like 0.12 layer height?
It comes stock with a 30hrc nozzle i think, but i think tungsten would be a good upgrade. I wouldn't use ruby bc it's pretty fragile and expensive compared to tungsten.
I'm getting worried. Seems like everyone got their KS order, but I've received no shipping information or update at all. I've actually gotten more information from my Ankermake backing than Bambu.
Reducing your layer height will fix your top layer problems. .28 is massive for such curved surfaces. Going to .12 will give you much greater resolution on those curves.
Im glad your beta unit was just a raspberry of the batch, shame they couldn't get to see what the issues were, maybe bad firmware or something. Talking about firmware, now that they are shipping units retail we hopefully will see more concentration on firmware and software side of things as it seems that is where the remaining kinks are. Nothing looks too serious to hinder how good this machine is though and so nice to see a company take a risk on a new design and features. Im both looking forward to my printer coming and also where this printer is going to go. Im happy to purchase proprietary parts as long as they are reasonably cheap and allows to continually fund BambuLab as long as they continue to maintain and develop this and future machines.
My thing with this is all proprietary components, if the company go under and you need spare parts you're kinda screwed but otherwise it's very impressive
Great video, the printer looks like a solid machine! Side note, please print a cod piece for your Ironman mannequin in the back! Letting your man catch a breeze there.. haha
So are you saying you need glue stick for the first print and then use hairspray? Or can you use hairspray right away and forget about that icky glue stick?
im looking for a new printer ive been using a few cr-10 but i need something for home thats fully enclosed as my cats are ninjas, what program does this use? cura i hope as its the one i know the best
Ended up ordering one of these with the AMS, it looks insanely great. I really really hope this prompts the likes of Prusa to up their game - I love their printers but dont think they can get away with selling something based around a ~12 year old design anymore.
Hey Jessy what about the first layer quality on this one? The printer seems impressive but no one turns the printed model inspecting the first layer (it's only me?)
Speed wise how is it vs say a Super Racer or a V400 from FLSUN? Print size and cost difference is pretty much a wash between the V400 and it so I really wanna know.
I have.... one that I backed that should have shipped in July (it was June KS with a July ship) that hasn't arrived yet (Australia they shipped by Sea and I have to wait for it to arrive and then be sent via a local distributor) and I already pre-ordered a 2nd because I didn't realise that i could fit 2 in the place I was going to put it until afterwards (so missed out on the savings). @@patrickkimmett4502 I believe Prusaslicer/Slic3r has a feature like that. I bet cura does too, though I'm not sure. I've only used Prusaslicer so far
Great review.
Is the update video he talked about releasing a month after this one somewhere?
My thing with this is all proprietary components, if the company go under and you need spare parts you're kinda screwed but otherwise it's very impressive
Great video, the printer looks like a solid machine! Side note, please print a cod piece for your Ironman mannequin in the back! Letting your man catch a breeze there.. haha
I've just received mine...and Bloody hell, it's fast
Hey Uncle Jesse👋🏻
You‘ve been printing a lot on your x1, is it already possible to give any information on the maintenance costs?
Kindest Regards
Hi! Great video as always. I bought the printer… could you please tell me the name of the purple filament? Thanks!
Where can opioid buy this? The Kickstarter is saying estimated time to get one would be July 2022. Do you know or a way to get this quicker
So you're saying it doesn't work with a curved top surface
So are you saying you need glue stick for the first print and then use hairspray? Or can you use hairspray right away and forget about that icky glue stick?
Hopefully they can come up with a larger unit that does 300-400mm cubed. That would be really fantastic.
For what? Only if you print big its needed
@@AFroMinZex3 Exactly. Big.
How about an update..was looking at these and I’m on the fence.
im looking for a new printer ive been using a few cr-10 but i need something for home thats fully enclosed as my cats are ninjas, what program does this use? cura i hope as its the one i know the best
Ended up ordering one of these with the AMS, it looks insanely great. I really really hope this prompts the likes of Prusa to up their game - I love their printers but dont think they can get away with selling something based around a ~12 year old design anymore.
And their MK4 just shows that they are still stuck in their old design...
I backed the Ankermake M5 kickstarter, did I mess up,
Is this a better machine?.
Did you print the PLA with the door open? I heard you have to do that to avoid trapping heat inside
can u just print a tray to catch all the bits at the bottom?
Have you tried a wood filament with this yet?
But I really wanted to receive the first one before having to pay the remainder of the pre-order on the second.
What setting can you change to rix the top layer ringing
So is the top surface layering issue fixed now?
Wow the carbon is fast holy crap!
Great review and hey you can use those saved 6h of printing to sand!
@unclejessy Which mid range (£800 avg), core xy, enclosed printer do u recommend?
hey I've already had mine for a week already. it's awesome backer 3300ish
Imagine the price going down to like 700 in the used market. Kicking pursa's ass out of the water!
Hi Jessy!
Have you tried to print TPU on this printer?
Slizer profile, pid tuning e step calibration ?
