I am employed by a small business and am treated very well by the owner and my supervisor. Lots of praise, we are on very friendly terms, and they do nice things for the employees fairly frequently (catered lunches, fully paid for team building events etc), and in return I give them everything I can and go out of my way to do more than what's asked of me. The only singular reason I would ever voluntarily leave this company, and the single biggest reason why anyone would ever leave any company that they are truly treated very well at, is because I am very much under-compensated compared to the current average salary range in my area for my field and experience level, and because I am doing way, way more than should ever be expected from me. People quit and job hop because it is the fastest way to get a raise, because employers do not seem to have realized yet how much inflation has affected their workforce, and how much more they need to expect to have to pay their employees in order to retain them as a result of this. It's not that "nobody wants to work", it's that nobody wants to work for a shitty wage that doesn't scale to the effort they put in and the rapidly increasing cost of their essentials.

He honestly saw it as an opportunity to do what Craig does for a living and was able to see his self a business opportunity instead of an employee for someone else doing the same thing. It's hard to work work work and then realize if you did the same thing your doing you could make more money doing it for yourself instead of for others. 100% the truth of being a business owner. I wake up at 6, make a cup of coffee and read the paper. Best time of the day as I think of so many people having to get ready to go to a crappy job, one that may actually hate. Driving back home will be when the first wave of people driving to work, rushing around like crazed little ants scurrying to a job they hate. I'm going home to peace and quiet, to drink another cup of coffee and catch up on what's happening in the world on my computer. Oh, around 9:30AM when the traffic has died down, I'll be heading into town to ride 26 miles up and down our bayou bike trials. It's so nice and quiet on the weekdays. I stay off them on the weekends because they're clogged up with work warriors now off. Grocery shopping on a Monday morning, no problem, nice and quiet. You'll learn to hate Saturdays when most are off, clogging the streets. You get so sucked into the system so easily because most are living this way. Classic case of burnout. When employees are in that state and you are detecting it....that is where your people skills come into play. Never under estimate the power of saying good job, having team building events, and more importantly reducing the workload by hiring an additional person. If you know he likes to do fun stuff, get 1 or two mustangs and let him have at it. Then he can have time to train the new person on the boring stuff as he transitions to eventually running the show in Danville and releasing the demand on you to do other fun stuff that interests you. All the while he should be given every opportunity to have a good work life balance as he works through the burnout. Invest in him as much as you want him to invest in you and you both will win. And employees should be paid a fair market wage for the responsibility you are asking of them. The enough but not too much is nonsensical. Even though pay was not at issue here, it was still an oddly nonsensical view point. As an owner you do need to keep an eye on the market rates of your employees to make sure you are keeping up with the competition that can easily pick off your employees one by one with better pay/benefits. Doesn't take much time. Just read through all the on line job listings in a 50 mile radius to gage the market rates of the work you are asking employees to do.

He was trying to figure out how to save face and look good when his actions lead to German just walking away. But that’s what Craig hast to do he hast to put a spin on everything and he has to always blame somebody else just like the way he blamed German you know all but wait a minute he did blame himself he said that he shot himself in the foot because he paid German too much money. Do you see what I’m saying? This is absolutely laughable, except that it’s not funny, it’s very sad.

Just barely going through the motions and emotions. I have saved enough to get by for a little while. So I am considering taking 6 to 12 months off to unwind and just see where the world leads me and see what options the world leads me to.

I used to work landscaping all the way to the top .. I was paid well , respected and loved .
But I always had bigger plans .. That work taught me all of the greatest and the worst lessons about landscaping . I opened my own 5 star only biz working sat and sun and then working my reg job mon through Fri..
After I was burning out bc of all that work I finally hit a pay benchmark on just my sat sun biz that beat my mon through Fri work ..
As soon as it happened I had to leave to run my biz full time .. The boss was incredibly upset but understood that I wanted to be a leader and I was burning out being a follower .
I now work 7 days a week for myself .. Why 7? Because it takes so so much more than people think to run a business and run it successfully.. this is why 95% of new small businesses fail in the first year they weren't ready for all of the work they were bringing on..
You can tell when you have an employee that is working to open their own place one day.. They are always the very best employee and they work 24/7 around the clock pay or no pay..
Once everything was flowing good and I had seven full days of work I had other landscaping companies asking me to work for them and what it would cost them to make it happen.. I'm not boasting here but you cannot pay a man more to work for you then he can earn working for himself..
My highest offer was $100,000 a year salary. That's a crazy good offer however it is nowhere near how much better it is working for yourself..
In the end my boss and I remain friends and he actually helped me grow my business by loaning me tools that I did not yet have the money to buy.. I in return help him sometimes with his books sometimes with this clients sometimes with his estimates and sometimes even giving him some of my backup equipment when his goes down..
When you see a man that has that much talent you know sooner or later he is going to be going out on his own.. it sucks I know that some of my employees that I'm training I am going to be competing against in future contracts once they start their own business..
I don't even make my guys sign a non-compete form because I want them to grow just as I did and lead the life that they want to live I don't want to hold anyone back..
Given the choice some people ,I think most would just take the regular job that they can forget about it on Saturday and Sunday but the few of us out there that have that spark are willing to put in the effort to build something to represent all the blood sweat and tears that we've put in to the business even from the very start working for others.
Craig man I know how you feel it's terrible it changes every single dynamic of your business I very much hope you can find someone out there with the talent that will stick with you for a while so you can keep running the business that you love..
and German you know what's right for you man you do you that's the best thing you can possibly do,,,, it's the only thing you can do,,,, you do you and the money will always follow.

Now that you’ve got some time to think, think about what vocation interests you the most and what vocation aligns with your abilities. Then ask to shadow someone in that field for a day or two. If it’s not for you then repeat the process. When you finally have chosen what you want to do with your time, set the goal and then work backwards from it. This means that if you now want to do something that requires a masters degree, get an associates degree first (milestone degree), then bachelors, then masters. If it requires a skill (i.e. trade).become as skilled in that area as you can. Look for someone to mentor you. But you must first choose the path that’s right for you. Best of luck.

I usually agree on most things you say, however, in my case and from what I've dealt with, employees who are paid well(high end of scale)tend to stay, be loyal and produce because there's no where but lateral or down. German will be back, he just needed to reboot for a few.

Nah i doubt it. With he's mindset it seems like it makes it hard for a person to work for. I been following this channel since I ran across the ferrari thing. But slowly something about him raises a red flag. I could be wrong but he's words and actions leaves a little do desire

I couldn't disagree more. Well your experience with workers may reflect that, that doesn't mean it will translate to this situation. In my opinion German doesn't care about money so your point about it being financial is irrelevant. Greg said German went on vacation and visited family and when he came back he knew it was over. It sounds like someone who realizes at this point time and family are more important than money and he may have realized it sooner which is why there were noticeable differences Greg noticed over the past year. He asked him about what he's gonna do for money and he said the world will provide. German being a spiritual person, wouldn't be motivated by more money based on what Greg said. It further is backed by Greg thinking and hoping German put money away in his water faucet example and for all anyone knows German is a smart business man and invested his money over these years. Not saying your wrong in your experience just that it doesn't pertain to this case.

Retired at 64. Covid shut down decimated our Travel industry. My boss asked me to come back. I was making very good money.
BUT...the work was demanding--endless politics. Super happy now. God bless you.

Like the millions of people that haven’t gone back to work after the pandemic, once you step away and reflect, it’s a really easy decision.

Where is the other video that Craig talks about failing and needing to tighten things up?
Craig, def keep grinding but at the same time, make sure to be living in the moment with your family. Your kids are only small once, enjoy all of it!

No Craig is NOT AMAZING. You heard it yourself. Craig expect a German to be at his beck and call 24 hours a day seven days a week. That video was all acting and there wasn’t an ounce of truth in anything he had to say. Craigs just trying to put lipstick on a pig, and we aren’t buying it.
