Back in the early 1980s I was a dairy production manager at Associated Dairies in Newcastle. One morning I went across to the canteen for breakfast - probably about 7am (I didn't always have time) - the canteen was busy (long trestle tables) but there was unaccountably lots of room around three guys having their breakfast. I sat down opposite them with a smile and a "morning". I was well into my breakfast by the time I realised that one of them was Sting. It turned out he was back home and was out helping his dad who was a bottled milk buyer customer of the dairy the other chap was his brother.

Ei ! Lindo ver Sting ser homenageado por estas feras da música ! Nós brasileiros o amamos por ele respeitar nossos povos indígenas! Viva Sting e Cacique Raony !❤
Sting's original version uses some weird Hungarian alternating 4/5 rhythm. Bruce just took out the odd numbered beat to smooth it out. I think Sting actually started performing it that way on occasion as well.
Lady Gaga was AMAZING. The way Sting and his wife Trudy turn their faces and realise at the beginning of that performance that watching this woman perform one of his songs is going to be special💜
In case ur wondering, Sting is clapping like that to increase the volume of each clap (not that it matters in a crowd of that size, but anyway.) Try it urself. If you clap with ur fingers spread apart and your palms flat and open like that, the decibel level of your clap is NOTICEABLY louder. It's akin to yelling Bravo! instead of just clapping. Gives it a little more oompf. Plain and simple.
Esperanza Spalding's vocal performance (aside from the excellent instrumentation, of course) is unbelievably beautiful yet warmly sensual. Herbie Hancock's piano playing is like raindrops on a windowsill. Just an enchanting experience, even in the midst of some very strong performances.
Sting has been through the worst. He is the best writer, so he wrote a movie to get rid of music block! He also began writing with Eric Clapton. Eric taught him about loss and Sting started Writing from inside. Every song teaches me something! Great comment!!! Sting is my favorite artist once he left The Police. Fragile we are.🎉
You don't really understand what impact Sting made on music until you hear these fantastic tributes. It all puts it into perspective and makes you really think about Sting's timeless career
Timeless talent that many do not give him enough credit. Brunos tribute is about how Sting influenced him and even John Mayer gives him credit while sitting in his room listening to King of pain. Thank you Sting. Thank you
The Boss just sung a Sting song, didn`t you know that all great people lean to the left? you sound a bit weird mate, and really not that special..lace your boots and bugger off!
The Kennedy Center Honors have created some amazing, memorable individual performances, but I think as an overall package, this one was the strongest I've seen. From Gaga to Bruno, they all rocked it.
I'd be honored if some Sting fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal cover performances of WHY SHOULD I CRY FOR YOU and ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK on my YT channel in tribute to the master of lyricism and composition. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace.
Have you watched the version at Sting's anniversary with Stevie Wonder playing harp? truly awesome. I think this song is so good that whoever sings it cannot be bad.
One day I put Sting's songs on a CD and put in our family van. That's how my wife became a fan of him. Years later my daughter who is an young adult now told me that she raided my computer and downloaded all of my music collection. She told me of all the artist she loves and one of them is Sting. She treasures these songs as they remind her of all those good child memories when we traveled in our van and listen to and often sang-along to them. My daughter got good taste in music after all...
I remember dancing in my parents’ living room to Sting, back when I was still their only child, standing on my dad’s feet as we danced around the room. Now, as an adult, I can’t hear his songs without crying for the sweet nostalgia that they conjure within me. Your daughter will treasure the connection you share over his music for the rest of her life.
Only Sting can make such dreary topics sound upbeat and make listeners want to dance. I thank God every day for Sting's existence. Every little thing "he" does is magic.
Once again, EVERY performer NAILED IT... not only delivering a cover worth remembering but delivering a reinterpretation that is brilliant in its own right... HOLY CRAP! Herbie Hancock, Bruno, Lady Gaga, the BOSS bring tears of joy!

The best and the brightest were called in for this magnificent Tribute, which is apropos of Sting, who is among the best and brightest of 20th and 21st-century popular musical talents.
