This was truly a special musical moment captured here. Sting looking like the proudest, most humble singer/songwriter/musician who saw his creation transcend his hands masterfully by an absolutely outta this world rendition by the incredibly gifted Gregory Porter and this band. The audience and all of us are actually quite privileged to witness and enjoy this. This is one of the purest, most perfect exchanges of creativity ever. The emotions, the experience and the memory of it...just WOW!
I play this video almost every day! True. Sting is a great writer/composer. It must have been a joy (though he is holding it back visually) to hear his song performed at this amazing level. For me it is a joy to live through the Spiritual knowing shared here by Gregory!
I love watching Sting's expression during this performance. I believe he regards this as one of the best covers of his songs. You can just see the humility, gratitude, and awe on his face.
Absolutely dreadful, butchered beyond belief, don’t know who he is but the singer can barely sing in tune and cannot hold a note, just terrible, almost unlistenable. Anyone who likes this must be tone deaf!
The man sitting to Trudy's left is feeling every feeling a human can feel. At one point he closes his eyes, throws his head back, and expresses pure ecstasy.
And the man sitting to Trudy's right looks rather skeptical and non appreciative. Trudy herself is quite aware that she is on camera, and being an actress, I guess she thinks she is displaying quiet interest.
It is a superb interpretation of the song. An instant classic. If Gregory hasn't already done so, he should record it. And the accompaniment is superb, as well.
As a performer myself. I love the idea of putting your own interpretation on other people's songs, as long as you respect the message of the song. He wasn't trying to out do Sting. He's just a guy singing a song.
This is one of the very rarest cover songs -- this artist snatches the song entirely out of the hands of the author and makes it more real. THAT WAS FUCKING MAGNIFICENT
This is why I love covers that change the original! Even if its not better, its different. But its gotta be good. Puddles Pity Party has some amazing covers. I recommend checking him out if you don't know him

I have been a Sting fan for over thirty years, and that was hands down one of the best renditions of his songs ever, maybe the best I've ever heard. Wow, just wow!
Oh my God. That Roxanne? That's a panty-dropper. That arrangement is ridiiiiiiiiiiiculously good. Who would ever have guessed George Michael would be so perfect for that song? Sometimes, a musician covers another musician's song, and in their hands it becomes the showpiece it was truly meant to be. George Michael did that with Roxanne. Ultimate.
dlrgroup This rendition is gold. You just might late swedish Esbjörn Svensson Trio enforced with Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker playing Fragile in Baltic Jazz live. Trombonist Nils Landgren sings it effortlessly and Esbjörns piano solo is one of a kind.
May 10, 2024, I am sounding the alarm! This song is not only beautiful, Mr Porter is one of the sexiest men alive. Not only is he physically sexy, his mind, soul, body and spirit are in perfect alignment. The lyrics will bring you to tears every time! This is one to have on repeat. “It’s hard to say it, it’s probably me”. ❤️❤️
I have heard that Sting can be critical about his music and that's because he is music perfection with his songs, but to look at him watching Gregory Porter singing his song - he seem very proud of this rendition and it look like it almost brought him to tears. Great Song - I Love It!!!
Sting is known to be a very humble man and in his eyes you can tell he was definitely proud of Greg's performance and his song but in his wife's eyes you see more...her appreciation and admiration of everything going on that night not to mention how proud she is of her husband. Applause for all, Gregory, Sting, his wife and of course the band 👏

Privileged indeed. If you never got to hear Robeson. This is it.

I play this video almost every day! True. Sting is a great writer/composer. It must have been a joy (though he is holding it back visually) to hear his song performed at this amazing level. For me it is a joy to live through the Spiritual knowing shared here by Gregory!
Да. Интересный момент.
If you’re gonna cover a song, cover it! He made Sting proud.
Yesss 😂
Sting looked sceptical for the most part, not proud :-P
That Gregory Porter interpretation is just insane. That Sting song is simply cosmic for the heart and soul .
Sting is hearing, watching, observing,....and thinking: he nailed it!!!
More like fuck those 90s coke sure helped me create some magical songs.
That he did
I love watching Sting's expression during this performance. I believe he regards this as one of the best covers of his songs. You can just see the humility, gratitude, and awe on his face.
The whole arrangement, the singer, the musicians playing instruments behind him, are incredibly amazing.... Perfection.
Not quite, if you could add EC's guitar then it would be perfect.
B.
Exactly!
I would say, the audience as well..they were..tuned!
Absolutely dreadful, butchered beyond belief, don’t know who he is but the singer can barely sing in tune and cannot hold a note, just terrible, almost unlistenable. Anyone who likes this must be tone deaf!
It speaks volumes that the 'most replayed' part of this video is the start. 😎
The man sitting to Trudy's left is feeling every feeling a human can feel. At one point he closes his eyes, throws his head back, and expresses pure ecstasy.
That is Tomas Ledin, a Swedish artist.
Envy on another level when I saw this lol
It’s a feeling some only experience once in a lifetime! Absolutely beautiful 🙌
Mannnn.. that’s how I would be if I was there 🥲
And the man sitting to Trudy's right looks rather skeptical and non appreciative. Trudy herself is quite aware that she is on camera, and being an actress, I guess she thinks she is displaying quiet interest.
@@Themanwhocameback2 what you wrote doesn't make sense whatsoever
Gregory Porter elevated that song to a higher level knowing that it is already a great one - Outstanding
Never heard this version until today. Always loved this song. Dude literally has me in tears. Music is so powerful. ❤
This is probably me
❤
Today for me and I love it ✔️🎼😊
It is a superb interpretation of the song. An instant classic. If Gregory hasn't already done so, he should record it. And the accompaniment is superb, as well.
Woz, how you doing Keyboard wrecker...
You're right
This is why I love covers that change the original! Even if its not better, its different. But its gotta be good. Puddles Pity Party has some amazing covers. I recommend checking him out if you don't know him
pretty much
Awesome -what performance.
Bullshit! He’s good but faaar away from Sting! I have spoken
Clean, unpretentious, wonderful arrangement. This is the epitome of classy music. Excellent.
There is NOTHING, like LIVE MUSIC!!!
But that's also because really well wriiten songs can be lifted up by other artists and sting does write good tunes...
I'd be honored if some Sting fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK and WHY SHOULD I CRY FOR YOU on my YT channel in tribute to the master of lyricism and composition. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace.
Liam SWW ,I second that!!
A TRULY WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO GREGORY PORTER. LIAM A MAN WITH GOOD TASTE
That's what you call elevating a song, as Mr. Porter taps into the pain of the character with his bold rich tones. Par excellence.
Steam немножко обиделся чувствуется
Stings confusion но держится как настоящий Аристократ
I’m here in May 2024. Love Gregory Porters music
In commenting on this amazing performance Sting humbly said, “The greatest compliment I can receive is for someone to perform a work I created better than I ever have.”
Sea Scorpion that brings tears to my eyes
@SeaScorpion I’m not a Sting music fan but boy can I RESPECT ✊ that...I’d like to see them collaborate on something maybe even this..I think it would be amazing 😉

I love Sting. I am not surprised in the least bit, that was his response to this performance. He has always been a first class and classy gentleman.
That's how to do a rendition. Passion, power, and pure presence. That's Mr Porter.
Yes, I absolutely agree, nothing to add :-))
hahabass is a good brother
Bagha Baghalou yes he is. I was blessed to have had a conversation with him last August in Martha's Vineyard. He is so humble and approachable...such a warm and Regal spirit. Incredible human being, he is.
Gregory Porter's voice is like a heavyweight boxer, it can knock you over with one big note... I'd be honored if some Sting fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of WHY SHOULD I CRY FOR YOU and ENGLISHMAN IN NEW YORK on my channel in tribute to the master. Real live acoustic with no pitch editing. Thanks and please excuse the promo.
Yes, yes, yes!!! Gregory Porter does this song TOO WELL!!! Sting & Trudy's reactions is the proof......her especially......
What a special performance. The arrangement alone is absolutely incredible. Porter just took this song to another level.
So true, a new level , relax Sting, just a rendition
His voice is so clear, but at the same time, it sounds like it was created deep down in the bowels of the earth.
Yes he did! The audience was feeling it and you could see that Sting was very pleased.
Amazing, until that last out of tune moment, but really good until there.
@@isaachebreromoreno7304 All artist do it! Still a great rendition!
I have this song on constant replay and my grandkids ask me why I continue listening to the same "old" song. They don't understand and will never comprehend the heart and sould of this masterpiece!
I come back to this performance quite a lot. What a masterpiece.

I have been a Sting fan for over thirty years, and that was hands down one of the best renditions of his songs ever, maybe the best I've ever heard. Wow, just wow!
George Michael come close
Ultimate.
me, too - I want to write the same! Yes, just yes! absolutely wonderful performance!
dlrgroup This rendition is gold.

If there’s anyone who loves this man and his voice and style......It’s Probably Me!!
Probably Me, lol 👍🏽 😎
very tongue and cheek Deb! Me too!
Nice!
I believe this performance was a spiritual experience for this audience!
I have heard that Sting can be critical about his music and that's because he is music perfection with his songs, but to look at him watching Gregory Porter singing his song - he seem very proud of this rendition and it look like it almost brought him to tears. Great Song - I Love It!!!
Say it again, I thought that was Sting. He was in awe. I watched this over and over and loved watching the mesmerizing eff
I agree with you. You can tell, especially if you’re an artist, that Sting understands how good this is from Gregory Porter.
Seems Iike he approved... even admired 🤔
That's in his eyes. Yep
Sting looked a little teary eyed at the end...
The man who wrote this (Sting), has deep passion and understanding of love
Imagine writing a great song that another singer loves so much that he sings it in front of you. Now that's respect.
If someone's sitting up all night listening to Gregory Porter, it's probably me.
...and me!
Andddddd me.....
You would not be alone!
It touches all of your senses. Let's hope we have someone else who cares!!
Probably me too
Sting is known to be a very humble man and in his eyes you can tell he was definitely proud of Greg's performance and his song but in his wife's eyes you see more...her appreciation and admiration of everything going on that night not to mention how proud she is of her husband. Applause for all, Gregory, Sting, his wife and of course the band 👏
Brilliant observation

I can hear Sting. But this version is absolutely beautiful ❤
As a 40-year Sting fan, I can say that I've never heard anyone sing one of his songs and thought that it was better than Sting's version. Mr. Porter just broke that 40-year streak.
BassByTheBay : I agree wholeheartedly with you..but Stings original song Missing you was song by P.Diddy and Faith and backed up by a CHOIR..in intrembance to
Biggie Small and Tupac was a far more superior
than Stings original..Listen to it and let me know your comments either way both do justice to the song.,different times/dates and different meanings..
@@duanetrevorwilliams1269 I remember "Missing You" well. It was good but wasn't better, IMO. That doesn't mean it can't be better to you or anyone else, though 😊.
You need your ears checking then, because this was mediocre at best. Cold and soulless. Technically fine, but dull. Go back and listen to Sting’s - he performs it with warmth and soul.
@@asadacoehlo7964 It never ceases to amaze how people find ways to be rude for nothing more than a different preference. Like I said, I've been a Sting fan for decades -- I know his music very well and don't need to relisten to any of it. And I'm not the only one who likes this version better. But I'm not gonna tell you to get your ears checked.
@@BassByTheBay "I'm not the only one who likes this version better" isn't an endorsement. If it were, every music fad in history would be considered legendary.
Evidently you do need to relisten, because you'd know otherwise that this is a far cry from the original. Technically fine, but expressionless. Colourless. Soulless.
Don't get lost in the hype.
I watched this with my phone on one hand and a drink in the other. By the end of the song my drink was frozen...that's how cool Gregory Porter is!

Beautiful
Let's face it! He took this song to a whole other level....so much beautiful resonant in his feeling for the words...fantastic!
It shows Sting and his wife are moved by it👍
Let's face it!...Not really a competition of any kind between the white dude who wrote it and sang it for decades with completely different background of music and a black artist that sings th sh out of every song he sings and who grew up with gospel, Lou Rawls, Stevie etc.....Stop rating sh according to personal racial preferences...smfh
As much as I love the original, I didn't listen to it over and over like I done with Porter's. This is in a class of it's own. Magnificent!
Listen to the version with Clapton playing guitar. Its even better than this.
