As a performer myself. I love the idea of putting your own interpretation on other people's songs, as long as you respect the message of the song. He wasn't trying to out do Sting. He's just a guy singing a song.
Sting is known to be a very humble man and in his eyes you can tell he was definitely proud of Greg's performance and his song but in his wife's eyes you see more...her appreciation and admiration of everything going on that night not to mention how proud she is of her husband.
