Reading the manufacturers' nutritional label can be very confusing to an average uninformed person, you can be either clueless of what it means or got the wrong idea based on own misconception. Your explanation is highly educational.
Thank you for this video and for explaining it so clearly. I'm embarrassed to admit that I am 43 years old and just now deciding to learn how to read nutrition labels. Better late than never I suppose but I can't believe how much I don't know! Thank you again for this video!
Thank you! I usually focus on the serving size, sodium, carbs, and sugar. I had a health scare when I was 32 (two years ago). It was my first time entering the nutrition label zone. Watched tons of videos and learned a lot including this one. It amazed me, and still does, how the food industry lies and cares more about revenue than human lives.
The Great Grandmother Rule, I love it! Thinking of that is gonna save me a lot of time instead of checking every single label. And now when I find great grandmother approved food I'll know what to look for instead of feeling like I'm reading gibberish. You're the best Dr. A!
This was really helpful thank you for the tips on how to read the labels I am a type 2 diabetic and a heart patient and have been dealing with a heart condition i was born with so far I am doing good i am going for a procedure this coming month to stop what I am having problems with in Birmingham Alabama
I have never seen a video explained so perfectly on how to read nutrition information. You explained this perfectly clear, and I really enjoyed watching, Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad to attend this very special LESSONS👍 I was one of those people that religiously checked labels in foods packages because my grandson has allergy to certain ingredients But after watching your lesson I have learned a tons of different reasons how essential to know what’s good for our bodies and I’m amazed to learned how much I consumed with out reading and understand the nutrition informations Thank you Doctor AB for sharing your Talents and knowledge with us 🙏🏾🙏🏾
You're very welcome Lamanga! I'm always happy to help, specially people like you with a particular concern, I hope this helps you choosing your grandson's nutrition 😊
Understanding nutritional labels are really important for maintaining your calorie level. You made this topic so easy, great explanation even I didn't know some facts about some of this information. Thanks for the video!
This is really educative and well explained. Difficult to find this helpful information. Thanks for the help in teaching how to read nutrition information
Very informative thank you so much for taking the time to do a video like this, I definitely need to be more careful in the detail and looking at the ingredients. I appreciate this I will be adding my email looking forward to making Better Health decisions, again thank you so much.
Yeah, most videos focus on food choice and what we should eat. Learning how to read the nutritional label and serving size is very important to knowing how many calories you are eating per meal.
sweet insightful video on how to manuever the nutrition table chart , info on the ingredients and sub-ingredients items are quite helpful in simplifying the complexities , great share.
Great video for learning. I know a lot more about the proper interpretation of food labels by this video. This is so difficult to find this helpful information and idea. I highly recommend it to others. Many many thanks to you for sharing.
This was very informative! I’m 20 years old and want to take control of my weight while also being healthy, any recommendations on how to understand nutrition for beginners?

I always read the nutritional information on whatever I buy, it helps to make the right choice. I have been watching videos on Fit Mother. How about starting, Fit Grandmother Project? I am 75 and would love to know about keeping fit. I have joined a gym that specialises in strength training and cardio for 50+.
Hi @Dyuti, we have many members in their 70s. Please check out our program. It may be the solution you’re looking for: pulse.ly/aw7lgqk9dm My team and I can help you start seeing results!
Excellent Santi, sometimes the products have listed many ingredients, the important part is the proportions, and as I mentioned, the more ingredients listed on the product, the less healthy is likely to be 👍
So when we look at total carbs, how do we know what is nondietary fiber vs starch? Starch are those carbs that get converted to glucose quickly like sugar
Explained very well I do have a question tho. Suppose an item has 30g carbs 4g is dietry fiber 10g is sugar Then what about the rest 16 grams? What are those?
Hey Harmon, thanks for writing in and great question! The remaining carb amount can come from a variety of other ingredients. They can be simply remaining carbohydrates, starches, sugar alcohols, etc. If determining your net carbs though, you will subtract any fiber/sugar alcohol from the total amount. -The FMP Team
I learned with a quickness when my roommate was diagnosed with heart issues just how healthy those "healthy" frozen meals are. I had to educate him on the serving sizes, as well, turns out there's WAY more salt in most foods than what they'd have you think, and some of Campbell's "healthy" versions of foods have MORE salt than the original version! I cook now using unprocessed ingredients, and we're both better off for it.
I sometimes look at the ingredients and the carbs on the food. These instructions are good for people to know. I didn't know bread had carbohydrates that are not listed as sugar, but act as sugar in your body.
I’m not sure if you’ll see this but I have a question about the percentages for the calcium and other vitamins and minerals. I don’t know what 20% of your DV means. Is the goal to get to 100% or something? How do you know you’ve had the correct amount of percentage?
Great question! The %DV is a general recommendation that applies to the average person. Every individual is different and requires different macro/micronutrients though so please take with a grain of salt. Wait, do you add the Total sugars and included sugars to get the true amount?? Sooo 22g of total sugar+18g included sugar= 40g of sugar. And total sugar= naturally occuring, included sugar=added in the process? Right?
Hey Princess, thanks for writing in and great question! The total sugar will already include the added sugar so you don't have to double up. You are also right that total sugar will also include the naturally occurring amount also. If you want to hone in on a specific line though, the added sugar take primary focus as many natural sugars come with fiber, to help slow down any blood sugar spikes (as with fruit, for example). Best of luck and thanks for watching! -The FMP Team

The 2 slices 160 👍

one way to make these labels less confusing: start counting the ingredients, if you get to 4 put it back on the shelf.

that's not really a good strategy if the ingredients list is only made up of healthy ingredients with a greater number of 4.
