  • It's flannel season! So I wanted to give you all a wear updated on my two favourite flannels from The Flat Head and a brand new one from UES. Though not a review as such, these are my thoughts on these lovely feeling flannels. A proper wardrobe essential!
    The Flat Head is BACK! After a two year hiatus their flannels appear to be back ON SALE! (See below) they are available and highly sought after. Flat Head’s flannels are inspired by the patterns and details of work shirts from the 1950s. They are triple brushed on the inside and are a heavy 12oz fabric. The patterns are created on the vintage shuttle looms which give the fabric a three dimensional look.
    The extra heavy UES flannel is woven by a Schoenherr weaving machine and is both warp and weft rope dyed indigo which will develop a nice fade as yarn ages.

    For those interested with what happened to The Flat Head and it's two year hiatus. Here is the statement that was posted to their site in 2019. Translated without edits from Japanese.
    "I established Flat Head Co., Ltd. and have been leading the way for more than 20 years to build brands such as "THE FLAT HEAD" and "RJB". And now, the market has changed a lot. THE FLAT HEAD has also expanded the range of items and made efforts to meet further needs, but due to various factors such as changes in the market such as the Internet, we will continue to build the brand in the same way as before. Things have become difficult. Therefore, because it is an important brand that we have nurtured so far, we will suspend "THE FLAT HEAD" with the 2019 Spring / Summer collection, except for some products, in order to reconsider and rebuild with the aim of becoming a brand that will satisfy our customers even more. I decided to do it.
    Now is the time for change. I, Masayoshi Kobayashi, will resign as president and start a new brand with young staff.
    Along with that, I will be appointed chairman. And now is the time to transform Flat Head, and I think it's a good time for the young staff to come together to create a new Flat Head Co., Ltd. Therefore, as my successor, Masaru Miyasaka, the former managing director who has built up the Flat Head together, will take over as President and take a new step as a new Flat Head. As the first step, we will launch a new brand that makes use of the manufacturing we have cultivated so far, and will start from this Fall / Winter 2019 collection. As a new brand, Miyasaka and below will inherit the gene of Flat Head and pursue more insistence on manufacturing, creating fun and exciting products, so I hope you can expect more than ever.
    And we will hold a final festival where you can purchase the last autumn / winter items of the "THE FLAT HEAD" brand at a thank-you price. Please come to the store as soon as possible so that you do not miss a purchase. In addition, the Spring / Summer 2019 collection is the last full lineup for THE FLAT HEAD, and even one T-shirt is a perfect culmination. I hope you will look forward to it.
    Thank you for your continued patronage.

    Red one is super good man, that flannel will be even rarer now that Flat Head is seemingly bankrupt

    I picked up one of the UES ultra heavy flannels just before Christmas and the quality is amazing, right up their with IH and a tad cheaper

      How good is it! I've worn it almost daily since October having not really worn it last year. It's seriously my top item at the moment. So solid!

    I'd be curious to see what you think of the frahm shirts. I'm constantly getting bombarded with adverts and they sort of appeal but you can't actually go and see one

    • @CameronO
      @CameronO  Год назад

      Not tried. Are they the adverts you see on social? I think i've seen one for a jacket with weird hook type buttons?

    • @jamieward3574

      @Cameron O yeah on social media. I see a lot particularly on RUclips cos I don't have premium. That sounds right for hook type buttons. Their main thing is jackets.
      Either way, love to see if they'd give you a sample to review because they look nice but they're a bit of an investment to buy without having seen one

    I recently bought a heavy flannel shirt from Gitman Vintage on 50% sale. Really nice high quality shirt and nice pattern as well. It's a thick shirt that you can stay warm in for winter as well. My only gripe is that the hem is a little to curved for my taste. It simply curves a little to much up towards the side seams, and is a little too long in the back. But it might just be me, it's well worth checking out.

      Good stuff! Thanks for the info. I've not checked them out before. So many good brands out there.

    Yes i prefer the workshirt over the western. Check out Gustin, they have awesome workstyle shirts, just gotta be patient cause they're campaign orders which makes them very affordable. They have great varieties of material, ranging from 9oz to even 15oz. I do love my ironheart flannel, have it in the Buffalo red check. The lumberjack look is cool, it's a classic pattern.

      How long have you had the IH flannel? I do love the classic patterns, despite what my colleagues think haha.

      @@CameronO I've had the flannel since nove 2019. Bought the wabash at the same time. Classic patterns are called classic for a reason right 👍. Just like the suit. The flannel on the inside is super soft cause it's combed. I really don't have complaints other than i can't wear it all year round.

    My main issue with flannel is I just hate the two breaat pockets. It bothers me with any shirt or jacket cause it feels unnecessary. I always prefer having just one (or even none at all on some jackets). I've been on the lookout for an indigo dyed flannel with only one breast pocket and the closest I can find is the denim flannel by Wool and Prince which does seem cool.

    • @CameronO
      @CameronO  3 года назад

      Interesting point you make. I guess it's down to the history of the flannel, though sure there are other shirts out there with single pockets? But indigo dyed.. hrmm that could be tough. I'll keep my eyes open!

    Did the UES Flannel stretch out a bit in the chest? I got a size 3 ( I love it! ) but it might be a little bit to fitted for my taste in flannels. I like them slightly roomy but looks like there is a big jump in the chest from 3 to 4 although everything else is not much bigger.

    • @CameronO
      @CameronO  3 года назад

      Hey Alex, I can't say it did tbh. It's stayed relatively the same. Though mine is on the larger size and I know what you mean about being either side of just right. I figure for me as it's a winter flannel it's ok. Though if it bugs you im sure you could easily sell it on.

  • @neonrain9978

    Hi what sizes are you wearing for both if them? I’m 1,85m and around 82kg. Looking at both brands but im pretty slim with wide shoulders and chest and long arms.
    Im weirdly between a medium for fit but a large for size most of the times.

    • @CameronO
      @CameronO  2 года назад

      Hi man, do you mean the flat head two or the flat head and UES? The flat head ones are Large (42) but from the old run so the sizing differs from the ones you can buy now. It's seriously confusing.

    • @oscarbainbridge8656
      @oscarbainbridge8656 Год назад

      @@CameronO The 42 in the new run is an XL now I think. Any idea if it would still fit the same as the old 42?

    Lovely shirts. I enjoyed the review but kinda odd reviewing shirts by a company no longer in business. Definitely get an Iron Heart. You will love their flannels.

      Hey Caro, I hear ya. I did feel a bit odd adding those in, though I want to get through all the pieces I love wearing. I'm almost done with my staples. The channel will then evolve into bits I'm looking to add in and even more bits on watches, every day essentials and other items that interest me. Appreciate the feedback man and will take into account. Thanks again for watching!

      Hey Brandon, I only have the UES extra heavy flannel to go off but yes, I found it quite longer to what I was used to and now I absolutely love it! Been wearing it most days. Flat head are really short in the arms so maybe stay away from them.
