She may sound dumb but she’s asking lots of questions and wants to learn. Good on her.
The dumb ones are the ones who don't ask the questions because they don't want to sound dumb. Smart people ask a TON of questions because they have plenty of confidence to do so.
She sounds dumb to me because she sounds like she's not actually listening to any of the answers and her questions sounds more like she thinks her husband is on to something and she wants Dave to confirm that they're correct lol.
This is Dave Ramsey show ,not accept kilmer, top grear
The worst accidents are on the showroom floor 😂
P
Her husband is fudging numbers to best case scenario to justify the purchase but even then he's still lying to himself. Wife is not knowledgeable but she was asking the right questions to educate herself so good for her.
You know the guy still went out and leased that truck......
She went with him

Once Dave realizes he can’t help you change your opinion he reaches for that “quiet” button and proceeds to RANT 😂😂😂

That's what he does in his company... what else would you expect from him???? HAHA
Yeah, it’s almost like this is his show or something. 😁
The best part of the show tbh
They waste time and answer questions nobody asked. Seems like Dave makes the right choice.
That's basically like saying 'I want to pay 10 years of rent in advance' like if you're gonna do that you might aswell buy a house 😂

Dad joke about cars: “We should all be in one accord.” 😂
Yes, I heard the one about Jesus and the apostles..all in one accord :)
Did someone say Honda
13k could buy you a car outright that lasts 10-20yrs lol
It could also buy you a car that lasts less than a year, happened to me. I just go with a 2k hoopty and replace it as needed lol.
@@user-jy7yw5kw3w you spent around 13k on a car and it broke down on your after a year? How much were you driving? Did you keep up with maintenance?

It's because you aren't spending someone else's money.
Because people wrap their identity up with what they own (or at least seem to own)...
Dave is just different. He sticks to the facts. There is no grey area 😂. Love it.
deciding whether to buy or lease an FCA vehicle is like deciding which arm to put in a wood chipper
I just bought a 2003 Dodge Dakota from a single owner (grandpa of a student). 200K miles, $3500. I love that old truck!
Callers husband believes he is smarter than multi billion dollar corporation
Worse. He thinks he’s smarter than the whole auto industry!
@@wordsrwind22 Worse, he thinks he's smarter than the entire worlds banking system. Do you really think car dealers carry their own debt? Na, they get paid either way lol.
As a car enthusiast, I loved when Dave said none of my cars have less than 400hp.
Hilarious 😂 some people wants to have buy nice cars but they have houses that are falling apart
Just buy something cheap until you’re wealthy.
SPAMMER
Sadly, most people disagrees lol
If you pay Lease payments upfront and that car gets totaled in a couple months, you do not get a refund for any of those payments, you lose the entire down payment (up-front lease payments).
Leases usually require you to carry a certain level insurance policy as well which is costly ...
Good point
Sell the husband.
🤣
You joke but it's pretty clear the financial problem in that family is the husband.

He's pretty spot on for the most part but trucks definitely don't depreciate as much as some other vehicles out there. So the term "hold their value" is the wrong way of saying it, many vehicles just don't depreciate as much or as fast as others. There's a channel "Four Wheel Finance" that goes over stuff like this
They do tho
They cost significantly more to drive around and buy gas for.
LOL "Trucks hold their value." "RVs hold their value." I've heard these in real life SO MANY times.
Trucks hold value better than an RV lol wow they sink fast
Make sure you want the vehicle and keep it 10 years.

I haven't looked at new cars in decades but what the H happened with trucks? They used to be cheaper than cars and it was uncool to drive them. Now everybody wants one, nobody needs one, and they all cost $40K. $40K FOR FREAKIN PICKUP TRUCK.

Her: “When buying a new car, I know it shouldn’t be more than 50% of you income”
Dave: “that’s all your cars”
Her: “that’s good to know. I didn’t know that.”
If she thought about if for two seconds she’d realize what a failure buying two cars using that principle would be.
The 50% rule works perfectly even in a multi-car household - you just can't buy "too much car" in too short a time
It's the total value of your vehicles you should try to keep under 50%, not the purchase prices.
So for instance, with a household income of 30k, you could buy one 15k car, wait until its value has dropped to 7k, then safely afford an 8k car by that point (assuming no change in income)
@Jaime Blanco: Exactly what I was thinking!!! How is that better??? That means she can't buy as expensive of a car as she thought she could! Dave's rule is meant to be MORE restrictive on families to keep them from getting into trouble!
He'd pay $52,680
Trucks do hold their value... for the second owner... but only slightly better than a car.
Paying $36K for a car with a $70K income? This is what is wrong with America.
Here in Canada too. People with $50000 income buying $60000 suvs.terrible

Pretty good example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Trying to do an end run around getting debt free is total sabotage. It's about sacrificing things, not buying more things. Serious people can say, "Boy, I would just love to have a brand new Ram truck, but I can't do that and get out of debt. So I will buy something used for a few thousand, and wait until I can really afford it." There is nothing worse than buyer's regret.
Exactly
Dave: do you think Crysler is stupid ?
Skotty Kilmer : YESSSSSSS!!!! 😂 😂
He’s getting a pay raise but only $500 a month, again only $500 a month. 🤑🤑🤑🤑
The real trick to buying cars is looking at depreciation charts - some hold value well and make sense new (Tacomas and Wranglers) others drop like a rock and should always be bought used (German luxury cars).
“His argument is he wants a truck” 😂
There are some super good used 13k trucks out there.
Dave Ramsey: Your husband's got truck fever!

I never learned to drive too. Granted I'm only in my thirties, but whenever I move, I move to places with very good and sometimes free bus services. @@frumpusnumpus good for you, that's me too until next year 😅
So he would overpay for the truck... twice.
One other way I quick figure out whether something is worth the price charged (ALL the price) is how much advertising/marketing the selling company is pouring into the product. That money is being inflated into the price.
The only truck that holds its value is a Toyota Tundra platinum. My Sierra Denali, and every other truck loses value
When Dave went from great to good in few seconds. You know it could only go down from there.
How come everyone calling always wants to spend a ton of money on a truck? I've never heard someone saying they want to spend a ton on a Lexus or a Porsche. IS the stereotype that big?
Trucks are actually useful, a Lexus or a Porsche is just a luxury expense.
Hubby wants to impress his male friends. Which is kind of weird when you think about it…
Even worse - If you prepay a lease and wreak it on day one they don't refund all the money you prepaid. You would only get any money you pay that is in excess of what your insurance company reimbursed the leaseholder.
Hope this guy enjoys his truck!
While his wife smolders for years
As soon as I got rid of my car payment and all the dumb overhead that keeps you broke and put that money towards money making I started getting ahead. Soon I'll be able to pay down my debts!

If we're going to talk about math, why aren't we doing the real equation? What does the truck cost brand new, and how does that compare with $13k + 24k = $37k?
Depend on the trim of the pickup. 13k+23k is not bad for a brand new pickup. Any nice brand new full size pickup is 40k plus.

We can all rationalize expensive purchases if we work hard enough. Rationalize being wealthy
Trucks do hold their value pretty well but not brand new. If you buy a 5k truck you can drive it for a year and sell it for 5k. New pickups you buy for 60k you can sell for 45k the next day
That's not really true but okay.
Dave obviously hasn’t heard of a Supra.. 😒
He loves cars, he knows there are collector cars and potentially future collector cars, but as a generalization his listeners aren’t going to be buying anything like that, and even if they did they would crush the value by daily driving the heck out of the vehicle for 10+ years
Husband's nickname should be Tootsie Pop, he's such a sucker.
You can not rent a vehicle today for cheap. Costs for rental vehicles is through the roof.

@@dedalliance1 leasing imo is for people who has some money, wanna enjoy an expensive car short term, not want to keep it because of maintainence, wear and tear amd break downs

People call in, but don’t shut up enough to listen. The wife will allow the husband to buy the truck. $76k income while she’s most likely taken out student loans. You can afford a $10k truck.
I think that’s why dodge and Chrysler are separate because they messed up their lease
15k gets a pretty nice truck.
Exactly you can buy a car permanently for half of that and then sell it on after 😂
I sort of disagree with you. Buying a 3-5 year old truck was AS EXPENSIVE at a dealer as a new truck. If you suppose 3-5K for repairs, and real depreciation that used truck is way more expensive than a new truck. Might be able to find something used from an owner for less but the selection is much lower and the time required is much higher skewing the numbers for truck and it has been this way for years. Trucks are insane.
where are they getting the 76K a year thing, especially in a pandemic

Leasing makes sense for businesses that can deduct the lease as a business expense. Individuals - generally not so much.
