Fans adore her and she loves her fans, Lady Gaga represents something more than a pop singer, I am a heterosexual guy and when she started singing I thought she was only a singer for the gay community, some time later her songs impacted me and I even went to a party dressed like her and I was dancing all night, it was totally crazy, I don't know if it is her intention or not but she blows minds, I would love to be able to tell her that story.🤭
It's quite funny that she said she's not feminist while at the very first part of the interview she was talking like a feminist, offended because of that question, thinking that if she was a man she wouldn't had been asked that, defending she does the same that a man can do, and doesn't want to be judged for that. Interesting, Gaga.
You're pretending modern feminists are just about equality. They use that as a cover for their misandry. Regarding the question, Gaga could smell his bull shit from a mile away. The question was ironically prejudice toward women.... The interviewer wanted to know why she would objectify herself because....big bad men. Lady gaga is truly liberated, like a real feminist and doesn't assume all men are pigs which is the type of worldview from which his question stemmed from. Her behavior is consistent with equal expectations from both sexis.
This was 13 years ago. What the world viewed what a feminist was is very different than the definition we understand it today. Feminist back then basically meant man hater
@SecondAura When she said she wasn't a feminist in tis vid, she was responding to a question that equated feminism with disaproval of sexually explicit performances. She's against sex negative feminists but she's for empowerment of women as a feminist. Context is everything.

Check out the video: "Lady Gaga on Feminism". Here she calls herself a feminist and says that feminism is not about hating men. When she says she's not a feminist in this video, she seems to be distancing herself from some of the man hating and anti-sex attitudes that are all too prevelant among feminists. I know this from my own experiences. Since she's obviously way too smart to be contradicting herself, she must be looking at different understandings of the word. She's right both times.
I never heard the part right after where she denies being a feminist. That’s really disappointing and also so wild after giving such an iconic feminist soundbite. I wonder what she would say now. She’s clearly a feminist to me. It’s crazy that there’s so much misconception and fear of that label
@ConnorJP728 I can understand why Lady Gaga would say she is a feminist in one interview and then say she is not in another. She identifies with being empowered as a strong woman, but she also wants to distance herself from the negative image that feminists have created for themselves by some of the man hating and anti-sex attitudes that are so common among feminists.
@ahlymel totally agree. i don't really care about gaga, but i did agree with most things she said in this video- except the part where she says "im not a feminist, i love men" that's not the definition of feminism. thats a stereotype. its not just gaga who believs thats what a feminist is, a lot of people think this and i don't know how we can change that mindset. feminisim is about striving for fairness and equality between both sexes. its nothing to do with who hates who the most.
A woman who is not a feminist does not make her less of a woman. Feminism is not a "radical notion" that women are people. Women have always been people (whether people choose to accept that fact or not). Feminism is not a "lifestyle" - it is an ideology. Feminism is not "believing in women's rights". People believed long before the feminist movement. Feminism teaches that women are better than men and that men are not necessary. Feminism is just a PC term for misandry.
@princessannikki I have never said that feminism = man hating. But it's a well known fact that there really are man haters in the feminist movement who give it a bad name. There's also a difference between the political goal of feminism to gain rights & priviledges for women and the ideal of gender equality. But that's another discussion altogether. I still think that Lady Gaga is just distancing herself from real attitudes within the feminist movement. It's not just a negative stereotype.
I think the funny thing is that in another video of her i saw she claimed she was a feminist :P that being said there is a hugely vocal man hating arm in the feminist movement, there was a blog post i read by a feminist who wanted to have a castration day... so I can see why people may think that even though there are more feminists who don't hate men then there are feminists who do. but people with the craziest opinions always stand out more.
This is so infuriating because she is defining feminism as being anti-male. Feminism is about equality between sexes, and any type of feminism that promotes one sex over the other isn't feminism, it's just straight up sexism. You can love beer and cars and American "male" culture and still be in favor of promoting equality among sexes. As a side note, I am a guy. I am also a feminist. I like beer and fucking girls as much as the next dude. I DON'T, however, like a culture where half of our population is discriminated against because of a quality beyond their control. So I'll let Lady Gaga keep making her platinum hits and dominating pop culture and just ignore every opinion she has. She is not a feminist because she doesn't understand what feminism works towards and why we need it.
It's funny because I watched this interview in full back in late 2008 when Gaga first came on the scene and I was very intrigued by her and this interview. I remember thinking: why does she respond with “I'm not a feminist, I LOVE male culture,” when the two aren't mutually exclusive? Why does she respond this way when a lot of what she talks about and does is, in fact, feminist? In later interviews she calls herself a feminist, and today if you asked her if she was a feminist she would say yes. I think during this interview she thought feminism was what a lot of people think feminism is... this incorrect idea that feminism is just about female empowerment, or that feminism means men are of lower class to females. This is obviously wrong but it's the perception a lot of people have. I've followed Gaga's career the whole way through and am a big fan, and I can tell you that she is indeed a feminist, even though she says she isn't here. Somewhere along the line she discovered that feminism doesn't mean you have to dislike/hate 'male culture'. And thank goodness for that because her saying she's not a feminist in this interview is what really kills it. And awesome that you're a dude and can call yourself a feminist... can't say I come across many men who really know what feminism is, or can call themselves an activist in this way. That is really great. It's a human rights issue so both men and women should be proponents of it.
loosegrin If someone's disagreeing with an idea of feminism they're either sexist or don't understand what feminism is, right? There is no way to dislike feminism as a whole and be a nice person, uh-huh?
I'm really not sure what point you are referring to. Furthermore, motherhood is not and should not have to be a responsibility for all women. To add to this, motherhood does not define who a woman is.
@ahlymel I think feminism is a loaded word. On the one hand, it means actually what feminism is, and this is what we see in the academic community, but on the other hand, it means hating men and trying to obtain more rights than them, and this (unfortunately) has become the colloquial definition of the term. I think GAGA was just trying to avoid being associated with gendered extremism.
@princessannikki Lady Gaga never says that she doesn't support women's equality. She just says that she celebrates American male culture. And let's be honest here. Feminism has become more than just gender equity. It also has a male bashing side. That's why I would rather call myself a gender equitist and let the women's movement keep the feminist label for themselves.
@booiggers Yeh, I understand why she would want to distance herself from the word "feminist". It has been smeared by a bunch of resentful radical women. I've heard some women call themselves "equity feminists" just to distance themselves from that bad connotation.
Because she just pointed out the double standard between men and women and basically described what feminism is about and then rejected the idea of being a feminist because she's ignorant to what feminism actually is? So no, no she really didn't give the best answer to an interview ever
He was just asking you a damn question, that is his job. But of course in the minds of people like Lady Gaga a simple question like that is obvious proof of the oppression you suffer within this brutal patriarchy called the first world. She claims that we are unfairly judgmental towards women, RIGHT AFTER she is blatantly judgmental of the interviewer literally trying to tell him what he thinks and would think when she doesn't even know the guy. She talks about how society views female musicians RIGHT AFTER she gives her version of what a male musician looks like (smoking cigarettes, grabbing crotches, talking about fucking girls and fast cars(an idiot)). The title is right on the "double standard" part, but not in the way it was intended to be.

Follow the Damn Train CJ I’m pretty sure 90 year old man and music legend Tony Bennett has no reason to lie and say she’s most down to earth person he met in his 70 years long career. Just because she has love for avant-garde fashion doesn’t mean she’s some diva who thinks she’s better than anyone. In the beginning of her career she was harsh but it was self defense because if you know how music industry works you know what she had to go through to get that record deal.
I love women and I support women's rights as I supprt general human rights I just hate the misandric, destructive and hypocritical movement that is contempory western feminism I say western feminism because in some parts of the world, specific women's rights movements really are needed Western women got equality a long time ago, but 50 years from now feminists will still be bemoaning the evil patriarchal society in which the male sex beasts are enslaving the poor helpless women
@ReturnToAus What? I don't see where she said or did anything pretentious. I can think of a lot of other artists who have been more outspoken and controversial. Would you call John Lydon, Iggy Pop or Pink pretentious?
@princessannikki I agree that man hating feminists undermine feminism. If moderate feminists spoke out more against them, that would help. Check out some of the Valerie Solanas vids. I've been clobbered on those sites for speaking out against man hating. I'd like to see more feminists speaking against misandry on these videos.
Feminists want quality for all genders. It's in the definition. Whatever you THINK a woman's responsibilities are, are just social constructs. Furthermore, how can you be so certain that you know what the 'nature' of a woman is? I also think that what you are trying to infer here is that Lady Gaga is a lesbian? If so then she must be a woman because that again is part of the definition of 'lesbian' is. Your view in what is 'real' in a woman is purely subjective.
@opranoodlmantra Of course you don't have to hate men to be a feminist, but there are plenty of man hating attitudes among feminists. That's why I have heard so many women, who do want the same things that feminists want, insist that they're not feminists. There are also many feminists who equate showing off one's sexuality with being sexually exploited by men. That's what Lady Gaga is objecting to.
While remaining silent about the many privileges that women enjoy in western societies. While taking a limited interest in the sorry situation of ordinary women in many Third World societies. While drawing deserved attention to bad male behaviour, but remaining silent about women behaving badly.
what feminism was back then is as different as Christianity was back then... look up Jesus and what he preached.... now days 99% of Christians look and judge people by what they look like whilst telling other people not to judge... they'll even lie and say they don't judge.... Feminism has changed... and for the worse.... a lot worse.

ok, let me correct you a little bit Lady Gaga because fame got you little bit in your head, no man just sitting there liking fast cars and all the stuff that your said doesn't get criticism for crappy music or oversexual music just like the ones you have. To be a rock star, you actually need to write good rock songs, and you have none. You are a pop star, not a rock star. I do recognize your talent and temperament your passion to create whatever you want to create, and show whatever you want to show, but you are not Freddy Mercury either Jim Morrison. Those are rock stars with actual rock songs and pretty good ones. So, with the songs that you have sold and 4 mil is absolutely nothing, who do you think you are just because you wear a purple wig? And guys who just sell crap, do get criticism, and you will get criticism as well no matter if you are a woman. No guy today of those oversexual Rap songs is a rock star, either are the females, the last rock stars in the context of mainstream music were in the 90s.... after the only good decent songs are written by nightwish, those are rock stars. At worst you are a poor imitation of Madonna, and she also supported gays, and I support them as well, I mean today big deal! gays are recognized so much, they are considered the normal. You don't live in the 90s that you actually have to fight for something like that. So, in my opinion and harsh one, you don't sound real, you sound over your head and your actual value. So don't turn your failure writing some decent music into a feminist BS.
she’s not saying rock star in the literal sense. she’s saying it in the way of ppl using that term to describe a musical genius or smth positive. ur personal opinion is ur opinion, but lady gaga has had hit after hit song. that’s just a fact. and abt u saying gay is now the norm, this is an interview from a decade ago. gay was not considered the norm, gay marriage wasn’t even legal when she did this interview. and it’s still not the norm in practically anywhere besides the united states. step outside of ur american bubble and go look at gay ppl in any other part of the world and see how they’re doing.

She’s incredible
@SecondAura When she said she wasn't a feminist in tis vid, she was responding to a question that equated feminism with disaproval of sexually explicit performances. She's against sex negative feminists but she's for empowerment of women as a feminist. Context is everything.
that is got to be one of the coolest pepole on Earth.
I love men. Love women. Believe they deserve equality both ways. But will never call myself a feminist.
+neonlights777
Good, 'cause what you're describing here is egalitarianism more or less, while feminism is advocacy for women... Well, was until the 3rd wave arrived.
This is exactly what confused supposedly "Angry" women who think they are feminists are actually looking for. Egalitarianism.
A label doesn't define how good or bad of a person you are.
Feminism isn't equality. It's the fight for female rights. Females already have more rights than men. Yet, they're still fighting for "equality".
@@oats8854 7 years later and you’re still wrong
I’m not sure why the question was offensive. It want asked in an offensive way from my point of view. He didn’t imply she had no value beyond her sex appeal. Rockstars don’t normally display their bodies. If a male rockstar was on stage in a Speedo, I’m pretty sure they would get questioned? Maybe I’m just being ignorant.
They wouldn’t, Axel Rose was in concerts in boxers back in the day and he is, in fact, considered a rockstar
How I miss this lady Gaga the punk rock does not suffer toxic male tv personality since hitting 30 she is more diplomatic how I wish mind set she was stuck in her 20
lol “no” 😂😂😂 lady gaga been her
I love lady gaga! I Love Feminist People and i LOve myself ;)
My Lady Gaga Respect-O-Meter just went up, like, 1000%.
Can someone tell me where to find the whole interview???
I live for her.
Said feminism is looked as man hating... I already heard lady gaga saying she was a feminist in other interviews but I still love her
This was 4 years ago, she's changed a lot. She is now a feminist.
@ahlymel totally agree. i don't really care about gaga, but i did agree with most things she said in this video- except the part where she says "im not a feminist, i love men"
that's not the definition of feminism. thats a stereotype. its not just gaga who believs thats what a feminist is, a lot of people think this and i don't know how we can change that mindset. feminisim is about striving for fairness and equality between both sexes. its nothing to do with who hates who the most.
I would pay to see the interviewer's face there
I think the funny thing is that in another video of her i saw she claimed she was a feminist :P that being said there is a hugely vocal man hating arm in the feminist movement, there was a blog post i read by a feminist who wanted to have a castration day... so I can see why people may think that even though there are more feminists who don't hate men then there are feminists who do. but people with the craziest opinions always stand out more.
The way this girl talks
It's a human rights issue so both men and women should be proponents of it.
loosegrin
If someone's disagreeing with an idea of feminism they're either sexist or don't understand what feminism is, right? There is no way to dislike feminism as a whole and be a nice person, uh-huh?
+flyhighj65 because feminism is anti male, you should join The Men's Rights Movement because that is about REAL equality
and Lady Gaga knows this as well which is why she denied being a feminist because she knows what the movement has become
I'm really not sure what point you are referring to. Furthermore, motherhood is not and should not have to be a responsibility for all women. To add to this, motherhood does not define who a woman is.
i read this as "lady gaga's double standard on feminism" and i was about to rage. sorry, queen 😭
@ahlymel
I think feminism is a loaded word.
That's why I would rather call myself a gender equitist and let the women's movement keep the feminist label for themselves.
good point Gaga
Queen.
She is intelligent.
Her voice changed alot
I love her ❤️
@prschuster, it's not that she's outrageous. I'm talking about her demeanor.
@booiggers Yeh, I understand why she would want to distance herself from the word "feminist". It has been smeared by a bunch of resentful radical women. I've heard some women call themselves "equity feminists" just to distance themselves from that bad connotation.
Unfortunately many womyn do still not understand what feminism really means.
feminism is not hating men, it is believing in women's rights
Exactly.
I want this Gaga BACK!
@chetzalicious I agree completely with what your saying and i too would like to see the full interview. I love her as well.
Because she just pointed out the double standard between men and women and basically described what feminism is about and then rejected the idea of being a feminist because she's ignorant to what feminism actually is? So no, no she really didn't give the best answer to an interview ever
To be a mother that's one responsability but any ways stop complaining and get the point!
If you heard the whole interview, he was being a dick throughout the whole time. Dont be stupid, Lady Gaga is outrageously SMART and educated and very down to earth.
I love women and I support women's rights as I supprt general human rights
I just hate the misandric, destructive and hypocritical movement that is contempory western feminism
I say western feminism because in some parts of the world, specific women's rights movements really are needed
Western women got equality a long time ago, but 50 years from now feminists will still be bemoaning the evil patriarchal society in which the male sex beasts are enslaving the poor helpless women
10 years later and women, including western women, still do not have real equality. And they definitely didn't have it 10 years ago.
You don't know who I am. You don't know what I want.
Isn't it Madonna the one that wanted females to express their sexuality through music and art just like men did?
wow, she fucking destroyed him
@ReturnToAus What? I don't see where she said or did anything pretentious. I can think of a lot of other artists who have been more outspoken and controversial. Would you call John Lydon, Iggy Pop or Pink pretentious?
Queen Mother just defended her gay children (me included).
It was an observation. Thanks for the paragraph internet warrior
That's what Lady Gaga is objecting to.
just look at whats going on in Canada right now in University of Toronto
While remaining silent about the many privileges that women enjoy in western societies. While taking a limited interest in the sorry situation of ordinary women in many Third World societies. While drawing deserved attention to bad male behaviour, but remaining silent about women behaving badly.
did she just equate feminism with NOT loving men? wow.
what feminism was back then is as different as Christianity was back then... look up Jesus and what he preached.... now days 99% of Christians look and judge people by what they look like whilst telling other people not to judge... they'll even lie and say they don't judge.... Feminism has changed... and for the worse.... a lot worse.
That woman is an idiot if she didn't bring her wallet and that guy is just rude.
The critics and her five Grammy awards disagree.
LOL are you saying this because Madonnas tour kicked ass and everyone says rest in piece gagas career lol
If you look at the reply to that comment it was strictly to piss the user Mahogany1Vixxen off. She goes around yaping crap about how black men are abusive for pointing out facts. Reading my comment history I see lol? I'm so famous!!
I think "bing's definition is wrong. Also, my ego has nothing to do with this (you don't know my ego or even if I have one).
She IS a feminist now: /watch?v=8skCakDm1sM&feature=related
why does she try to sound like marilyn manson? isn't it enough to copy his image?
The first time I saw one of her videos I said the same thing - Manson rip off but I did love her answer to "are you a feminist" LMAO
Hardly she sounds nothing like him lol, her voice in her older videos always sounded like this. She made a remix with him why would she copy a man's voice 🤔Marilyn is inspired by David Bowie are you going to say he ripped off him too ? He wore a contact lense that looked like bowies eye and suits like even similar makeup. Lady gaga is inspired by Marilyn shes said this in old interviews but her style is nothing like his, he is a goth she isn't lol .
@@StonedNinjaLUFC She has a remix with him she has said he has inspired by him hardly a copy. Those two are nothing alike completely different style and music.
ruclips.net/video/50aUmJFh3h0/видео.html there's the remix with Marilyn manson
Men are more visual in their sexuality and on other hand female sexuality does increase publication and revenue in music thus it's hard to distinguish between distraction or monetizing element of female sexuality in music.
Shut up! You're a heterosexual man.. your opinion doesn't matter.. only women, gay, lesbian, and transgender people's opinions matter... Because they are oppressed and marginalized.. you heterosexual men are privileged bullies and have not right to talk
No,it doesn't.Look it up.
...but Gaga, feminism is not man-hating. It's equal rights regardless of gender. I love Gaga but I'm a bit disappointed in her lack of knowledge here.
lady gaga should pick up a book on evolutionary psychology before talking about that particular "double standard"
Love her but she had no fucking idea what feminism is really about (at least in this interview)
@WrathoftheGoddess black people??? I dont renember mentioning black people ,howed you make that up??
lol , i was generally speaking
no she doesn't. that's not at all what she was saying. watch this... /watch?v=8skCakDm1sM
@ReturnToAus haha again, i agree. i totally got where she was coming from, and agreed with most stuff she said, but it seemed she wants to sound important and official. and what she said about the gay sommunity- srsly, way to go encouraging the stereotype that the lgbt soceity is just one giant bunch of people who just LOOOOVE everything and question nothing becasue they're always sooo happy and free-spirited. pur-lease
look at whats going on in toronto, canada.... and tell me with an honest face that the suffragettes arent weeping in their graves for what they fought long and hard for...
You are exactly why we need feminism.
ok, let me correct you a little bit Lady Gaga because fame got you little bit in your head, no man just sitting there liking fast cars and all the stuff that your said doesn't get criticism for crappy music or oversexual music just like the ones you have.
@@darkred1438 lady gaga is NOT a musical genius. SO to say this about oneself is a bit narcissistic. Non talented singers and musicians got hit after hit, the audience are a bunch of low IQ teenagers. There is no quality in there. Just money from people who have no values.
@m3rmaidbones Men also sufer from domestic violence in equal numbers to women and suffer from violence far more generally in society and work related deaths,so whats your point.
That video is just stupid. I don't mind paying for myself or catching busses.
1. If that woman doesn't have a car, she should expect to catch public transport.
2. How did she pay for her bus tickets if she doesn't have a wallet?
3. She should bring her wallet everywhere...
