She's really is the last big popstar we will ever have in many years Man, she remembers everything and everyone that worked in every single piece of everything she do. She is so authentic, self-aware, inclusive, inspiring... she is art itself
True but only technically. She came in 2008, after Rihanna in 2005 and Taylor Swift in 2006. They are the last three mega stars. Unless you consider Adele, debuting in 2008, as one, too.
“I wasn’t hiding, I was screaming.” This line breaks me in a way. Her little monsters (and others, to be fair) see her thoughtful artistry for what it is. So much thought and feeling goes into everything she does and it baffles me that anyone can call it “reductive” or say she lacks authenticity. I think part of the reason she has such fierce fans is that many of us understand the feeling of screaming out without being heard.
The “I was never hiding I was screaming” part got me chills. I had love her since I was 11, such an amazing artist. The best voice of a complete generation
I was in middle school when she debuted and she was the first woman I saw in pop music that actually revolutionized fashion. Every time a red carpet was coming, you'd think "What is Gaga gonna wear?" Back then, I didn't quite understand everything that her outfits were supposed to represent and I can recall people saying she was just doing it for "shock value", but you can see that see has a genuine love and respect for every piece she's ever worn, and for all those who created them.
I remember this too, it was always so exciting never knowing what she was going to do next. The egg, the meat dress they were absolutely insane but I loved it. Nobody was doing fashion the way she was
It was ALWAYS so exciting to wait to see what she wears! She was THE fashion juggernaut, it was insane to experience back then in school It was always talk of the day on Monday after

@@amralsun5958 of course not because I’m not white that’s why I said it. Are you seriously judging that? Do you have a problem with me because I’m poc? Wow okay
My God Lady Gaga knew EXACTLY what she did with fashion. She recalls every intricate detail and delivers purpose behind everything. She was criticized but looking back she is a fashion icon.
When she started talking about Alexander McQueen, she genuinely sounded like she was about to start crying. She was his "unofficial" muse. They loved each other very much. It was a shame that he died so soon.
considering they only knew each other for about a year, it’s wild they were able to form such a raw and creative partnership. just imagine what else they may have had in store.
"I won my first Oscar in it..." That's why I love Lady Gaga. She affirms without hesitation. She knows she is capable of winning another Oscar one day. She knows she will.
Yeah its because for her, they are not just looks but represents her passion for art & fashion and how she was feeling during that time and period of her career (which a lot of times she felt misunderstood and depressed and she was expressing those feelings with her looks)
the first time i got to truly see how emotional she can become over her fashion pieces was on the first episode of season 9 RPDR in which she guest starred. the queens wore their favorite Lady Gaga pieces on the runway and she became emotional seeing them and it was beautiful
She is and never was careless with her fame. Lady gaga is so smart and intuitive. She is an empath and at the most vulnerable she used art to express how she felt with the person she was at the moment. Unapologetically wonderful in her intentions and overall a well-rounded marvelous soul. We are blessed to have her and everything that makes up who she is (Music, acting, fashion and art). Keep shining and shedding light unto this world that sometimes grows dark. The true fame monster....
You know she's a true artist because she remembers every single thing about everything she has wore. Only a true artist appreciates other artist's work this way.
I also think it’s because she was thoroughly involved in the makings of these pieces. She wasn’t just passively accepting what was given to her. Like you say, she’s a true artist
@@Floridacoastwriter Coming from the person who probably hasn't created anything in their life, besides a shitty youtube channel that covers "news" . Stay mad.
she truly is one of the brightest minds of our generation; you can immediately tell that the way she talks about these outfits (that at a first glance can look like an attempt to draw attention) comes from the bottom of her heart, and every single detail has its own explanation and background. she lives and breathes fashion and art and her outfits are one of the ways she puts it out for us. she has never been afraid of putting out into the world her vision. i really do think that gaga's take on art is going to be studied many years from now
It’s not that hard just purposely think outside the box like I bet you if a famous women wore a bunch of fake used pads as a dress she would be knows as the most famous activist of all time it’s not genuine she trying to hard
Gaga could have showed 500 looks and I would watch every second. The amount of iconic fashion moments she’s had has been infinite. A true a icon, a true queen, a true STAR.
" I wasn't hiding, I was screaming" literally gave me goosebumps. She is both the artist and the art piece. I don't think that there is another artist as brilliant as her in today's age. Lady Gaga is one of a kind.
“This was just simply to freak out the paparazzi.” - no one in the history of ever could make themselves into a spike octopus. She’s so creatively brilliant!
"I felt that this type of privilege and wealth was the epitome of evil." One thing I love about her is that she's very aware, and also self-aware. Nothing she does is without some meaning, and it makes everything she does so much more impactful.
@Bored out of my floorboard Meat dress was created by taking the meat from the local butcher, which is not suitable for eating and will be thrown away. So no extra animal was cut for the dress. It was kept in special solutions to eliminate the smell of the meat until the time to wear it in the ceremony. Gaga explained following the awards ceremony that the dress was a statement about one's need to fight for what one believes in, and highlighted her distaste for the US military's don't-ask-don't-tell policy. Her aim was to speak out against this senseless policy, and she succeeded. With the effect of meat dress, the policy came to the fore and a few years later this policy was repealed. If you search, you can see that the meat dress has more meaning and is an action for the benefit of thousands of people.
i actually disagree that she's *that* self aware, but i guess a point of a lot of art is to spark conversation haha. she has a lot of meaning but i think she's still an uber rich person whose life is a playground (even if she was poor at one point), personally i am very drawn to true 'punk' art - like that of poor teenagers who actually made the punk movement with cheap things like thrifted, torn clothes, patches, safety pins, like fashion with culture behind it. she makes art but i do think she takes her work a little too seriously and thinks it is life changing for sooo many others; when it has nothing biting at the heels behind it and she is so far removed from others. of course art doesn't need this, she still makes great art, but i find there to be a massive difference in how i perceive and feel about the art vs how the artist as a person was and their situation and background when making it. like those videos of her 'working' at starbucks? her designs are visually interesting but many of them lack substance or it's an unrelatable background. and don't get me wrong, she's very cool and impressive and successful- obviously- shes fascinating and creative and many good things, it just doesnt all really attract me personally. her art is very valid and great, just not for everyone, and it's not without criticism.
@@downrighthorizontal9931 she is in fact extremely self aware, gaga actually frequented true punk places in the real punk scene of NY, she even managed to perform at the CBGB just before they closed the venue, she has totally the punk attitude, she always had it and still has, i think you're judgemental because she makes pop music and is part of the mainstream scene and modern pop culture, but she really has the blood, name a more punk thing than attending an award ceremony, where everyone play dress up and indulge in their privilege and vanities, all covered in blood red raw meat and fake diamonds to protest against an homophobic law and to comment on how women are seen as inanimate dress up meat to consume and please the viewer, she totally disrupted the status quo in multiple occasions during all her career in pop music, her work is full of substance, for example the video of paparazzi an the song itself make an statement about fame and celebrities and how it's a cycle of social death, very thought provoking and interesting, and nothing short of genius honestly....
She's not that self aware... or she's a hypocrite. Dumping on capitalism while benefitting exclusively from capitalism since neither her career nor fashions could exist without it.
It’s refreshing how INVOLVED, INFORMED & INTELLIGENT she is with her clothing and how it compliments her performance art. She knows her references, everything is intentional. It’s just refreshing. You don’t see it much in the music industry.
“We were, as a society, becoming more and more obsessed with interacting with each other in a way that was less real.” I cannot think of something more scarily true- this is proved more each day.
That was the deepest interview I’ve ever witnessed. The way that she is intentional about every step and thought for the sake of art. I have been watching the series for a bit now; this was by far the best. She is authentic and transparent. She understands the angle and the meaning of art. She is far beyond trend and understanding to those educated in the artistic scene. She goes out and makes such an incredible statement with each piece of work. Gaga is so full of knowledge. This is a deliciously special interview. Eat your heart out Cher! Compare Cher to Lady Gaga‘s interview; no competition. Lady Gaga your a sensational artist!
Why on Earth would we compare Cher to her??? Two different people from two different eras with two different personalities. Gaga would be the very 1st person to tell you not to compare Cher to her & then she would say Cher is an icon in her own right & was inspirational.
@@Elhastezy888To be fair, I think they were specifically just talking about both of their Life In Looks interviews here with Vogue. But, I agree with your sentiment.
Yes! I genuinely really loved the album. It felt so raw and genuine to how she was feeling at the time, which happened to resonate with my own experiences in the moment
I love how in the beginning, everyone thought Gaga was wearing clothes to 'shock' and that she had no substance and was the decline of 'artistry'', and here she is breaking down the art and the history and the context of everything she's ever put on her body in such a calm and self assured way lol. Love her.
Very true. She had a lot of opinions against her but I love how she proved everyone wrong, me included. I still don't like one single song of her but anything else, I'm there for it. It's a pleasure to ear her ideas and etc in interviews.
It is both. She truly wanted to wear those things, but she's lets pretend she's naive to the over the top and "shocking" nature of them. The pop world runs of being manufactured in one way or another. None of it is 100% manufactured though, there's always degrees. You can be shocking and completely artistic at the same time. This combination also has a long history in the art world as well.
You know when she does something, she asks questions, she takes the time to learn every detail about it, and she appreciates all the hard work that goes into everything.
“i never hid in fashion, i was screaming.” how do you top this one, vogue? lady gaga is fashion, art and music in the 21st century. she alone has changed the game forever. i’ll never forget being 9 years old and getting just dance as an advertisement, then diving into her transmission gaga vision videos from waaaaaay back in the day. she was so excited to see a photo of her in a magazine that she ended up buying it at the grocery store, in which she was dressed as she often did around 08/09. i’m in my mid 20s now. i’ve grown up with this woman and can’t even begin to get into how much she has influenced me as an artist. sheer perfection. a legend. just everything.
Oh please. Just because you weren’t around during Madonna doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Gaga copied the entire Madonna template. Tell me why born this way sounds like express yourself and alejandro sounds like la isla bonita?? Her recent Chromatica flopped.
I love that she credits everything and everyone involved in her looks. Whether it's Alexander Mcqueen, Harajuku culture or a bus company, she makes it a point to mention their importance.
Honestly feels like had she not invested in living and breathing in the arts, and not primarily in music, she would have been a fashion designer. Thank GOD she’s been giving the opportunity to do all.
no, the music for her is a priority, without music, nothing would've happen, she makes fashion and draws all her inspiration from the concepts in her albums, she was so revolutionary because she was the first big pop artist in this century that fully understood how music, fashion, visuals and arts should belong together to enhanced the final experience and to actively use them as outlets that support the storytelling in your music.
Her memory is incredible. And her dedication and passion for fashion and performance brings tears to my eyes. She really makes the world her own runway.
I’ve watched a lot of these and she’s the only one who sounds so 100% professional about her growing career. Every move she did was planned and she performed everything so well.

@@gambit85 I think they mean that the public reception to Gaga is very polarizing but that should be expected for someone of her stature and with what she does.
She knows everything about each look. She so considerate about the creators and people around her. She’s so sweet and so talented. I love her personality.
i love how she wears high fashion, avante garde looks, literally wearing art, but when she explains her looks, she doesn't sound pretentious. she explains it in a way that you can understand very easily which to me is so cool about her.
This was so inspiring to watch. She doesn't regret past looks or find them cringey or embarrassing, she embraces everything and sees her life like a tapestry. One big outfit. Love her.
You guys need to know that it’s crazy how she’s respectfully listing everyone that was part of her looks, from big designers, to her close friends, to local artists that she worked with once a long time ago.
Except the guy that really pushed and crafted her image, Nicola Formichetti. I found this outrageous, frankly. The "meat dress" was his idea, said Vogue at the time. WTH?
It’s sad because she was trying to have more fun with artpop and people criticized her for not making sense (?) it really is a shame, but I think artpop kinda changed her outlook on life and has led her to being more guarded but also more sophisticated and wise on how she moves about her career
It made me remember when Elizabeth Olsen was talking about the movie "I Saw the Light" that she wished people appreciated it more because it was special to her. But that's art - it's subjective and sometimes a lot of people won't get it. I mean, Van Gogh did not get famous until decades later. He died penniless and deemed as lunatic.
“If you’re willing to die for your country what does it matter how you identify?” (5:19) WOW. What a powerful quote! Quite an iconic perspective, especially in 2010. I doubt she even realizes the vast influence she’s had on popular culture with her driving force, bravery and refusal to “fit in” or comply with mainstream anything. Mad respect, Gaga. You’re a legend!
Most definitely. It was the time where everyone was saying “Gaga is done”, “her old stuff was better”, even her old manager left her because Gaga finally became controlled and want it her own way. Promotion was lacking due to management. ARTPOP was WAYYYY ahead of it’s time. One of her best albums she released. Gaga wanted to leave pop music. What only saved her was Tony and C2C.
@our very weird world my one question to you, after you wrote all of this, after she said all that she said in the video, is this: what about her joy, her art, her fashion choice, her mental health statements regarding sexual assault, PTSD, and suicidal ideation, is so triggering and so threatening to you that you come to comment about how superficial she is? After this woman has only opened herself up more and more and includes and fights for so many people, how can you say that she is superficial and vain? Just because you don’t understand what she’s doing in this world doesn’t warrant you any right or platform to trash her and call her self obsessed.
Lady Gaga talking fashion is like a fashion course. She really is connected with her clothes and her art. And she respects all these clothes and u can see it to her words.
I have recently started to deep dive into the inner workings and thought process of Lady Gaga. It actually started with that egg performance of "Born This Way" at the Grammys. I was so wholeheartedly shocked and impressed by her self incubation to fully understand her own lyrics before the performance. I love this video too! I love the inner workings of her mind and think she is very special. Thankfully she has always believed in herself so fully that no one could stop her from reaching her full potential. Mother Gaga is such an inspiration, not only musically but artistically as well. All of the hatred and opinions she received for her drag looks were actually so far advanced that the general public could not keep up. Even her statement about the wardrobe for the "Telephone" video with Beyonce. I am so in awe by her mind and her dedication to the portrayal of an image. I just wish artists would share their thought processes more often because I feel like it flies over the general public's (myself included) heads so often. What a legend ❤
My entire childhood I grew up watching Lady Gaga's every move, seeing her go through all of her looks, as a super-fan, was so emotional for me too. It's like we grew up together! I can remember where I was when I saw every one of these looks. Thank you for your artistry, Lady Gaga!
That’s how I feel too! I feel like with every album she captured every one of the stages of my life, and with every album it was like we were growing up and evolving together. I owe so much to this woman and she has no idea 😭
We have to protect this woman at all costs. She names the designers and collaborators in an intentional way, because its a partnership and she doesnt take any of it for granted. Shes a beautiful soul.
@our very weird world 🤣😂🤣😂 in your opinion, she can't sing yet there she is earning millions. Im not a fan of lady gaga but boy you're such a hater. Respect everyone dude. Other people will respect you as well.

@our very weird world you can say anything about her but "she can't sing" pls the delusion. She's a very talented and one of the best singers out there. You made not like how she acts or dresses. But GAGA CAN SING!
As an art history student I always enjoyed how she spoke of her fashion as performance pieces and how she always knew and mentioned her references. It’s very uncommon to see a celebrity be so informed on these things and so in control of their own image and character, I find it truly admirable.
I don’t know why, but this video makes me cry. Her intelligence, artistry, resilience, social awareness is beyond any artist I’ve seen in this life time.
Love or hate her, she changed pop culture at such a young age and many artists followed in her footsteps. It would be interesting to see what pop music would be like if Gaga didn’t exist. What a soul.
I was watching Hilary Duff performance "With Love" Pop Music in 2007 was SOOOOO DIFFERENT. Fashion was still stuck in the 90s. Gaga truly changed everything
@our very weird world once again, I’ll ask the same question: what about her triggers you and threatens you so badly that you have to cower behind a RUclips comment. She literally started a foundation called Born This Way to aid teens with their mental health. Do you really think someone like Tony Bennet would love and work with “trash” or a “nobody”? She cared and continues to care for him no matter his mental state given his dementia. She respects and loves people. She has donated and inspired thousands of dollars to be given to homeless shelters. Given your own attitude about her, you probably won’t ever change or care to see the good she does so I’ll leave this: go find a way to make the world a better place, not a worse place like you’re doing here
She credits everyone. She knows she's not working alone. Absolute love.

This line breaks me in a way.

AMEN! Proud of her and she’s an inspiration and role model for tons of women!

This almost has a sad tone to it. You can tell in her voice that she's quite emotional looking back at all her legendary moments.
@@gagatoes2940 Thanks for that, I’ll go watch it.

"I felt that this type of privilege and wealth was the epitome of evil."
One thing I love about her is that she's very aware, and also self-aware.

It is both. She truly wanted to wear those things, but she's lets pretend she's naive to the over the top and "shocking" nature of them. The pop world runs of being manufactured in one way or another. None of it is 100% manufactured though, there's always degrees. You can be shocking and completely artistic at the same time. It made me remember when Elizabeth Olsen was talking about the movie "I Saw the Light" that she wished people appreciated it more because it was special to her.

Me too almost like u r in ah of who she is and embodies wow
Ok so I’m not the only one sobbing
Creative artistic musical genius
“I wasn’t hiding. I was screaming”. She is exceptional. This was a lesson. Truly incredible to watch!
Love or hate her, she changed pop culture at such a young age and many artists followed in her footsteps. It would be interesting to see what pop music would be like if Gaga didn’t exist. What a soul.
@our very weird world why are you here then ? 💀
I was watching Hilary Duff performance "With Love" Pop Music in 2007 was SOOOOO DIFFERENT. Fashion was still stuck in the 90s. Gaga truly changed everything
@our very weird world What a troll lol

She has donated and inspired thousands of dollars to be given to homeless shelters. Given your own attitude about her, you probably won’t ever change or care to see the good she does so I’ll leave this: go find a way to make the world a better place, not a worse place like you’re doing here
The fact that most of the looks are from the ARTPOP era truly shows how underrated she was at the time.
HOW can anybody actively HATE her? She is one of the most fascinating & enigmatic people in the entertainment industry.
This is the main reason that some people hating her,
