finally, a video that does her justice... by compiling all of her walk in single video, you can clearly see how versatile she is... people mostly judge for her walk in todd oldham spring 95 by calling it "broken doll", but even most seasoned models say that walk is not easy because it's hard to maintain the balance straight...
Every show of her was a vibe, she wasn’t afraid to show her personality. Absolutely high level glamour and attitude 😍😍😍. I would love to know who are your 3 Top models of all time!
People don't know how to use the word "underrated" these days anymore. Shalom is not underrated at all. She is one of the most successful fashion models of all time. Do you know how many aspiring models would kill to have a career like hers? She is literally one of the few 90s models who still lands magazine covers and editorials, runway shows, and fashion campaigns, and her popularity, like Yasmeen Ghauri's, has only been revitalized by Gen Z's fascination for the 90s, especially through social media platforms like Tik Tok, IG, and RUclips, that only seem to rate models based on their runway and not their print work. Anyway, she has been modeling 3 decades now. Just because she is not a "household name," to which I disagree, because anyone in the fashion industry knows who Shalom is by just her first name, doesn't mean she is underrated. Her job is to be a fashion model, not a famous celebrity. There is a difference between underrated and under-popular. Also, you make her lyme disease diagnosis sound very misleading. She got lyme disease way later into her career, around 2013, which by then, she had like 20+ years of experience in modeling. She didn't contract it because of a weakened immune system from the stress of a very demanding work schedule. By this time, her career severely slowed down, as the 90s models weren't much in demand during the 2000s and 2010s, until the new inclusivity phenomenon within the fashion industry that happened the last couple 5 years or so. She most likely contracted lyme disease from running barefoot and getting bitten by a tick while out in nature. Shalom is a free spirit Sagittarian like her hippie parents. She sometimes posts images of herself in the nude out in public. That's the only time her career experienced a long hiatus, around 5 or 6 years of no work.
I know that the high fashion people knows who shalom Harlow is, but the general public is not familiar with shalom in comparison to naomi or kate. In the real word shalom is not a name that everyone knows.
@@EleganceEcho.But that doesn't make her underrated. that makes her not a household name. she has not been around in anything outside of modelling like Naomi or Kate so there's no true comparison. Shalom is shalom, and very very successful and rated as one of the top models regardless if there are people unfamiliar with her work.
My favorites, even back in the day, were Shalom Harlow and Christy Turlington. Harlow has always reminded me of the very beautiful actress Merle Oberon (..for those curious, see "Wuthering Heights" 1939)
Shalom is an amazing professional -- delivers in spades when she works that runway like no one else! Sass, style and substance! Thank you for telling us more about her.
The most underrated, I would say, is Doyey Luna and her incredible contribution to all African-American and Latin-American models, since sometimes she even had to lie about her nationality, even going so far as to say that she came from the moon. A model who was refused entry by magazines for being black. As a young model, she faced a more hostile outlook than even Beverly Johnson herself.
I Love her because she is very deep.she loves yoga, tarot very spiritualy woman ,i just love her. Her interests are very out of this world. I will never imagine that I will wish one day to meet a model, but her I will. Sending her so much love from Serbia.
I love her walk, it reminds me a lot of the performances that Inès de la Fressange did when she worked with Karl Lagerfeld, modeling was combined with theater, it was quite a spectacle. Those years of fashion are impossible to copy. Nowadays there are some that are outstanding, but they are so rare. I feel that the fashion shows of the past had a unique substance, cultural references and extravagant messages. It's stupid that a commercial fashion like haute couture was transgressive.
Her part as Sonya "In & Out" was hysterical and she held her own in a cast stacked with seasoned comedic performers. The Viktor & Rolf SS2009 show that featured Shalom as the sole model is legendary.
@EleganceEcho. It's nice to hear you appreciate her so much, she definitely is one of a kind! "The McQueen spray dress" is one of the most iconic moments in fashion and she made it possible due to her! ♥️
It’s true, back then there were no social media platforms or ppl to expose you, everything is kept under controlled and glammed up to distract the audience away from the dark sides of the industry. It’s only very recently cancel culture arrived and started exposing celebrities left and right.
Okay had to stop the video right at the start: ‘cover of Vogue before brunettes were even allowed’. Sometimes i pinch myself that in my short lifetime I have witnessed the transition of beauty standards to a point that includes women who are not blond, let alone brown skinned. Complete acceptance in every socioeconomic situation is not there but it’s just noteworthy, that’s all.
Nice video, but I think it was mean and disrespectful the way you talked about the other models. Just like Shalom, they all went through things before, during, and after their fashion era. There is no need to belittle these women just to make Shalom shine brighter. It's giving mean girl the way you talked about them. But again, except for the mean girl moment, I really liked the video.
I totally get where you're coming from and I didn't mean to come off as disrespectful. The truth is, some of the models were really tough on each other. You can check out my video about how Naomi treated Tyra, or even how Tyra herself acted on "America's Next Top Model". It's a tough industry and there's a lot of pressure and stress. But hey, I appreciate your feedback and I'll keep it in mind for future videos. Cheers!
I think the best models are who can be like "actress" in in ther model work, since the runway, to the editorials and advertisings. Shalom Harlow, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha are some examples of that. Somehow, having that "aura" of being interpreting and not just modeling, makes her work even less "frivolous and superficial", since it "transmits something" beyond appearance. They elevante the situation, the performance and the outfit (styling)
Yes you are absolutely right, and yesterday while I was doing my reaserch about Yasmeen Ghauri I found an interview where she said that she prefers runways more than pictures because it gives her control and she can make an audience feel the clothes.
Meh it's not that big of a deal, and looked a part of the consume cuz the other girl also painted her face white. Shalom doesn't scream "racist" to me and I'm black
I’m sure I am NOT the only one who has to be aware and totally in love with Shalom from her beginning in the fashion industry. She is not UNDERRATED to so many of us!
what gave you the impression that Shalom and Amber are arrogant, Did you have a personal experience with them or is it something you noticed in their public appearances? spell the tea girlll
@ never had an experience with either of them, but I get the impression they both hold themselves in high regard: like to brag about their relationships with designers and photographers or they did something first or how many “iconic moments” they had. But that’s just my impression.
Naomi and Tyra too. but everyone always dismisses their attitudes as "yass queen" moments. imo, she's earned the right to be a little arrogant. her walks are a work of art
Shalom was in an era filled with many fantastic models. In real time, she wasn't the one with that people gravitated to. By people, I mean those outside the industry. Yasmeen Ghauri had the famous walk that everyone tried to emulate and then just walked away at the height of her career. Shalom could also be up and down on the cat walk. When she was in sympatico with the show, she was amazing. When she wasn't, she wasn't. If anything, she was overrated. My opinion.
You're absolutely right, if you're into fashion, you definitely know Shalom Harlow. But I reckon Naomi has a bit more fame outside the fashion world, probably because of her socializing and appearances in various media.
@@parisz Shalom and Naomi are very different models, so don't see how they are comparable. Shalom was part of the anti-supermodel wave, while Naomi is part of the supermodel group, known for their glamarous and Amozian look of Hollywood stars. Shalom is more high fashion, known for being made for haute couture. She can embody more avant garde and alternative houses like John Galliano's Dior, Alexander McQueen, Yohji Yamamoto, Claude Montana's Lanvin, Thierry Mugler, Jean Paul Gaultier, designers which Naomi doesn't look quite right often. Even more minimalist designers like Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. She also has a more classical look than Naomi, that can suit in more period and futuristic looks. That quality I see in models like Linda Evangelista, Nadja Auermann, Kristen McMenamy, Debra Shaw. I love Shalom's 1995 Chanel fragrance ad. She had such fair skin juxtaposed with her raven black bob cut and dress, with those red lips, reminiscent of Ava Gardner. It is up there with Nadja Auermann's gothic Fall 1994 Valentino ad she did with Steven Mesisel, looking like Dracula's bride. Anyway, Naomi's beauty, on the other hand, shines in sultrier, sexier, and more glamourous fashion, like Versace, Victoria's Secret, Dolce & Gabbana. She can do lingerie, swimwear, and commercial fashion better than Shalom, with her more athletic and meatier build. Of course, they both look good in more classic and elegant designers like Oscar de la Renta, Gianfranco Ferre's Dior, Valentino Garavani, Hubert de Givenchy, but Shalom is taller, leaner, and more statuesque, making her silhouette more elegant and regal. When it comes to runway, Shalom is more versatile, but Naomi is more controlled and properly restrained. Shalom is a bigger risk taker, some times she is a hit or miss, while Naomi is more consistent. Naomi is a lot smoother than Shalom, especially at doing the 90s twirl. Shalom could quite jumpy and caffeinated at times. Naomi is the master of the diva walk, while Shalom is a jack of all trades.

Her confident strut and her steady gaze telling the world, I know who I am
She has that "it" factor that only a very few models have. She is an icon .
Shalom is a brilliant model. She is so talented and versatile. She always looked like she was having fun.

Yasmeen is my favorite too, I’m working on a video about her and trust me you will love it 🥰
@@EleganceEcho. That would be amazing. Yasmeen was such a beautiful and talented model.
and before she was scouted, she was just a normal girl living in Ontario!!

A little unrelated but I would love a video on Yasmeen Ghauri, both she and Shalom are my favorite models of all time!
