This is why I love your Omni overviews VS other RUclipsrs. You really take the time to talk through sections/pages. Talk about the creators and even add the personal impact the story left you with without spoilers. Your overviews aren't just from a collector mindset but a place of love. Never change Omar.
Jason, you have no idea how much your words really mean to me. About four years ago when I started doing overviews, my first video someone told me I talked too much and to just get to the point. I took the video down and told myself I guess I do talk too much. :) Then I said said: screw it! That was just one guy. And haven't shut up since. So THANK YOU!
Omar, thank you so much for being so detailed with your videos. I really wasn't going to get this, because I had heard that it was kiddish, but the way you described it this is up my alley. Thank you and sorry for bugging you over and over about when you were going to do an overview.
Thanks for helping make this happen, Omar. This is my favorite period of X-Men growing up, so I’m incredibly excited to see how thoughtful the mapping and presentation are.
I have two of the original flyer ads of the Inferno floating around. I discovered them in the attic not long ago. Never read it so it will be nice to pick up the Omnis now.
Love the main story but excited to not only read them again but also many of the crossovers that I never had the chance prior. Thank you Omar and David G for making this happen for the fans!
Can't wait to get this one! I've been wanting this for like a decade! Thank you and David Gabriel for getting this reprinted Omar! (More exclamation points than a Stan Lee caption!!!)
Best thing about your review is you have really read this books and go indepth on the things you liked when you read.. that's originality and thats the value of your review... thanks
All Williamson inking Bill Gaines being chased by demons in a graveyard past Frederic Wertham's tombstone in X-Terminators #1 is definitely one of the high water marks of the entire comics medium for me. Just incredible. :)
This was my Personal Fav crossover ever for my years in comics. i had all the inferno books and loved it all i bought the The Inferno the big book and i was upset the crossover was not in there. I ended up having to buy that cross over. The ending was longshot and i was YES!!!! AND S'ym was and has to be the reason for HellBoy
This review has just come at the right time for 2day i got an email from forbidden planet, London informing me that they gave despatch the inferno omni along with doctor apara. Think this is my 6th omni this month. I hope April will be cheaper I never read alot of the crossover titles so I will be reading many of them for the first time so it should make a whole new experience. Looking forward to your defenders review
I was hell-bent (**cough**) on getting this omnibus initially, but being someone who has never read this (and having other big releases I wanted to buy this year), I opted to buy the Milestone instead. No regrets there, as I was able to get Milestones for Fall of the Mutants, Mutant Massacre, and Inferno for less than the price of this omnibus. That said, I'm thrilled people have a change to buy this omnibus. I was going to go with that house ads DM variant, but I love the red of the standard cover. I actually dig the flames as well lol, although I agree that hand-drawn would have been better. Good luck to everyone getting this! The only X-Men omnibus/release I plan to get next for awhile is the (eventual) Uncanny X-Men Vol 5. :-D
Alan Davis and his women... just look at Excalibur #1: 3 girls, 3 body types with unique characters and mannerisms to match. Show me the artist that pulled this off the second best. This was the golden age of Alan D.
@Ryan Wilson Yeah, I got that too. The tie-ins weren't great. The main Inferno story was in Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor. I liked it, although it must be said the art was a bit rough around the edges in some issues. Cool storyline though.
This has been on my list for a long time to pick up, so I absolutely pre-ordered it. Once this arrives I will be entirely caught up on Claremont era X-Men oversized content, with the exception of The Asgardian War, which will probably end up in Uncanny X-Men vol.5. I do still need the silver age omnis, but it feels good to be almost entirely caught up now.
Getting this & the Marvel Portfolio for Peach Momoko next week! (Now if CGN & IST could actually send out all the orders I already made that would be nice.)
Do we know if the spine art is the same for the DM Variant or different? I already have the original Inferno Hardcovers but there is one thing that would make me buy the omnibus instead and that's if Mr Sinister is on the spine. I have X Omnis with Magneto and Apocalypse on the spine and Sinister needs to join them so the great X-Men villain trinity can be complete :D
So exited for this! Another awesome vid Omar! I’m so glad they put these two OHCs together to make a new omi! Man Omar I had a crazy find last week. I asked u recently if you thought x-tinction agenda OHC would get reprinted to connect the two Jim Lee omnies because that book goes for north of $100 for a used copy now! Well I found one from some random store for $5!!! Brand new and still shrink wrapped! So crazy... Now we just need Fall of the Mutants reprint or expanded into an Omni... anyway keep up the good work my man!
Thanks for the overview. I've been debating whether to get this since I have the trade paperback with the Rick Leonardi cover. Watching your vid there seems to be a world of difference in printing quality between the two making this purchase a no brainer. My first introduction to this crossover was the amazing, spectacular and Web of spiderman issues. I've wanted a high quality reprint of the Web and spectacular issues for a long time
I have the OHCs for Prologue and Inferno, but not the Crossovers OHC (which I was fine skipping). Part of me wants to upgrade to the omni, but part of me wants to keep the more manageable (in size) and sturdier build of Marvel’s older books. I’m torn, haha.
I know what you mean. I LOVE old-school Marvel OHCs with the faux leather look. It's one reason I got some Astonishing X-Men OHCs on Ebay instead of getting the omnibus reprint. I say stick with what you have it you like that format. :-)
I see pattern here, next X-men omnibus "reprint" is going to be The Fall of the Mutants, we have Mutant Massacre and Inferno from holy trinity (or unholy if you like it that way) last on missing. That as they say is that.
Just an exciting omni! Can't wait to get it in my hands! I've always had a thing for Madelyne Pryor as she was first introduced right as I started reading X-Men as a kid.
Really excited for this one - all I know about Inferno is what I read in the Excalibur omnibus and that was a blast! Agree with you on the flames though, definitely should've been comic-style hand-drawn. They feel super out of place, haha. But I'm still excited!
Super hype to finally read this and see what the hype is all about, David Gabriel for Prez! Thank you sir! We do appreciate you and all your hard work! Keep the omnis coming and we'll buy em.
Really glad i found your channel! I agree on the flames too. Looks like a cheap Wrapped Vehicle or something. Adobe Stock. hahaha... but what a great product overall! Marvel like em THICC!
Had my DM variant cover pre ordered for months now. Another 500 Xmen omnis to go lol. Also do you know if the dm cover has a different graphic on the spine ? Great overview as always brother 🔥😅
Dang I feel bad passing on this book considering how much you’re pumping it up lol. Super happy for everyone it’s coming out though. :) Thanks as always! Algorithm gang
I love it when I see a side character that is clearly based on someone, even if not outright caricatures, and then I have to go find out who that is and why they were integrated like that.
I heard from a podcast a long time ago that the main reason they did this storyline was so Cyclops wouldn't look like that much of a dick for leaving Madilyn Pryor and his son to join X-Factor. And that Chris Claremont's original plan when he had Cyclops leave the X-Men in Uncanny X-Men 201 was for him to retire from being a super hero to raise his son and be with his wife, and maybe help the X-Men out from time to time, only for Marvel to decide to have all of the original X-Men together again as X-Factor. In any case, while I was looking forward to Uncanny X-Men Omnibus volume 4 a lot more, I still have this preordered and Amazon should send it to me at the end of the month. :)
The kind of sad thing is that when Claremont heard what they were planning to do with Jean, he was initially mad, but when his editor got him to cool down he came up with an alternate pitch to use Jean's sister Sara for the X-Factor team instead. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you view the outcome), the guy approving things decided to prioritize the initial pitch he had already approved over the alternate idea. There's an argument to be made that the method they came up with for Jean was a clever retcon that made sense given the specific scenario and shouldn't really be blamed for what came down the line, but there's no doubt this was like cracking open Pandora's Box in regards to the permanence of death in the Marvel universe. And yeah, it definitely does some character assassination on Scott in the process - it would be a fun thought experiment to map out what might have happened had it been Sara joining the team instead with Claremont's vision for a team where people grew up and retired played out on a longer scale. Marvel has started doing those "Life Story" series recently, so maybe they'll get around to X-Men and we'll get something in that vein eventually.
I've got the version with the faces on it preordered, but I really don't think either cover is spectacular. I like the covers that are taken from an actual issue cover. So glad I never bought the crossover book when I saw it available back in 2016. After this, it's just Uncanny 5, Fall of the Mutants, Prelude to Inferno, and X-Tinction Agenda and then I'll have the entire Claremont X-Men run. I've decided that as much as I want to crack open Uncanny 4, Mutant Massacre, and Claremont/Lee 1 now, I'm going to wait until I have the entire run so I can read it (or reread most of it) in order this time.
Just my two cents.. First of all, congrats on your decision to start reading X-Men. You're making a wise choice, and you will not regret it. Lol.. That being said, I wouldn't recommend this as a place to begin your X-journey. There are much, much better spots to do that.. But, if you're planning on going back in time to read all (or most) of the classic & older material, then this book should be included in that, especially considering that this will be out of print again before too long. So if you're serious about it, you would do well to pick this up. I just wouldn't make this the first story arc you opened up and used as a "jumping on" point.. My personal recommendation would be the beginning of Chris Claremont's run. The first 4 volumes have recently been reprinted and you're probably too late to pick those up at wholesale (CheapGraphicNovels & InStockTrades), they should all be available at retail prices.. Good luck on your reading! I'm actually kind of jealous.
Hey Omar, thanks so much for this overview - my copy just arrived in the mail today! Did have one question: is this the last Claremont era X-Men omnibus being released until the Inferno Prologue in September? Thanks for all your hard work, peace and love from Australia!
i noticed a new trend it seems the standard cover are now the koo covers based on a cover of one of the original single issues & the varient covers are now the sucky ugly covers LOL .. i am exited for this one , going with the regular cover far better in my opinion
Semi-relatedly: since the X-Men by Claremont & Lee Omni Vol. 2 Standard Cover has sold out at IST and CGN, do you expect that either will be restocked with it in the coming weeks to months?
Great overview, Omar. Do you know if the inventory level means this has to be day of release purchase or do I have at least a few days to get it before it goes out of stock?
For me, this story felt like it was taking influence from some of the more over the top 80s horror stuff (albeit sanitized because of the comics code) stuff like Hellraiser, Nightmare On Elm Street, Cronenberg movies, even Ghostbusters. I've only ever read the X-Factor, X-Men and some of the Spider-Man issues, so I'm all in for this.
Owned and read only a handful of issues from both the main storyline and crossover issues; but Inferno was a big storyline during my early years as a comic book reader. Glad Marvel combined both OHCs. Partial to the DM cover, myself.
I'm currently reading this omni and I finished the main story. The crossover in the end is a drag. I hate when marvel adds the tie-ins at the end of the book. Once I finish the story, why do I want to go back in a see what everyone was doing lol have them in between the story. I might check out the green goblin battle but I might move on to my desk book
Was thinking - "ah, I'll see how it goes and maybe pick up the Inferno omnibus if it's available in a few months" as I missed Omnibus vol. 3 and Jim Lee Omnibus Vol. 1... then I watched this video. (Pre-ordered the omnibus.)
Does this come out the 24th or the 30th? Amazon, Target, Walmart and Barnes and Noble all say the 30th but comic sites are saying the 24th. I wanna get it before it sells out and scalpers start selling it for $300 on eBay
Oooo, heck yeah! I’m glad this is finally coming out, definitely picking this up. 😁 Wasn’t there a prelude to Inferno OHC? Wonder if it’d get a small extra Omni, or just stay an OHC. 🤔 Or was that just Mutant Massacre/Fall of the Mutants? (Really hope omni’s for those come up later too 😉)
You asked who is excited though. I don't consider it a loss though when I have no interest in grim dark thuggy super heroes. I like my heroes to resemble their personalities from the comics, something Snyder doesn't understand. He should do dark characters like Dr Fate, Swamp Thing, The Question, Spectre, and Etrigan, not Flash, Aquaman, Superman, and Wonder WOman.
"Why is that so much thicker than the OHC?": Because Omar likes 'em thiccc! So glad to have pre-ordered this one ( red cover! ), as I never had a chance to read the Crossovers issues, so now I have a good reason to revisit the event. Inferno is a phenomenal story - Right up there with anything else from the Claremont Era imo.
This is why I love your Omni overviews VS other RUclipsrs. You really take the time to talk through sections/pages. Talk about the creators and even add the personal impact the story left you with without spoilers. Your overviews aren't just from a collector mindset but a place of love. Never change Omar.
Perfectly said!!! I love Omar and his channel for these very reasons, too!
that's because gem mint doesn't read the books
FACT! He is the man and Marvel knew that when they chose him to be their voice in the collected editions world.
Jason, you have no idea how much your words really mean to me. About four years ago when I started doing overviews, my first video someone told me I talked too much and to just get to the point. Wow, thank you!
All Williamson inking Bill Gaines being chased by demons in a graveyard past Frederic Wertham's tombstone in X-Terminators #1 is definitely one of the high water marks of the entire comics medium for me. Just incredible. :)
And the "HALP" bubble tops it off! (HALP was often used in at least the old MAD issues when it was a comic book. Oh, and E.C Segars Popeye.)
This was my Personal Fav crossover ever for my years in comics. i had all the inferno books and loved it all i bought the The Inferno the big book and i was upset the crossover was not in there. Omar! Great to see some reprints of some of the Uncanny stuff for new folks. Any hints of a possible reprint of the Claremont/Lee volumes?!?!
I can’t wait. I sold my OHC years ago when I was struggling for cash. Such a great story. One question Omar, will Excalibur be getting a restock?
There's a lot that needs to be restocked. I'm still waiting for Silver Surfer, Cloak & Dagger, and Ben Reily 2 to get restocked.
I'm so happy you are now able to get this.
This review has just come at the right time for 2day i got an email from forbidden planet, London informing me that they gave despatch the inferno omni along with doctor apara.

Inferno is one of my favourite X-Men events. Really liked this era when the X-Men were based in an Australian outback town.
@Ryan Wilson Yeah, I got that too. The tie-ins weren't great. The main Inferno story was in Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor. I liked it, although it must be said the art was a bit rough around the edges in some issues. Cool storyline though.

Owned and read only a handful of issues from both the main storyline and crossover issues; but Inferno was a big storyline during my early years as a comic book reader. Glad Marvel combined both OHCs. Partial to the DM cover, myself.
I'm glad they did too.
Great overview Omar. Also could you do a overview on The Mask comics by Dark horse?
is uncanny x force omnibus by remender going back to print?
Nice..I have my copy on preorder..how important is the prologue??
If you're a Claremont fanatic and completionist. VERY.
@@NearMintCondition thats all i need to know.
I'm so excited for this one! And the prologue
Oh yeah!
Some graphic designer got real happy with the flame tool in photoshop.
Great overview!
Is there any date for X-Men Inferno Omni Reprint? tks
I was seriously thinking about skipping this book because I have the trades. Some issues are missing though. Thanks for changing my mind Omar, haha.
You are very welcome.
It comes out on the 24th in the direct market.
@@NearMintCondition thanks! Can you tell me if the prologue is necessary reading? I know Fall of the Mutants takes place before this event
Definitely my all time favorite crossover!
Oooo, heck yeah!
I’m glad this is finally coming out, definitely picking this up. 😁
Wasn’t there a prelude to Inferno OHC?
Wonder if it’d get a small extra Omni, or just stay an OHC. 🤔
Or was that just Mutant Massacre/Fall of the Mutants?
(Really hope omni’s for those come up later too 😉)
You're thinking of the Inferno Prologue. That's actually being rel-released as an omnibus later this year. :-)
@@LancetheLibrary Ahhhhhh, nice! Thanks for tip :)
Reprint its finally going out or was cancelled?
Do i need to read anything else prior this event?
To quote Omar, "Hell yeah!"
Wow! I can't keep up with all of these awesome omnis!!!! XD
So Excited to finally have this. Already Pre-ordered Prologue. Need Fall of the Mutants reprinted.
I'm sure that will come.
@@NearMintCondition I'm gonna hold you to that. 😃
Is there another omnibus called prologue inferno? Or it is included here?
That is being reprinted later this year.
You gave a great review .
Will this be in epics or complete collections?
Can you read inferno without reading the comics that came before?
S'ym was based on Cerebus and named after Dave Sim, right?
I’m not sure as he first appeared around issue 166.
Yo Omie! Which Omnibus has the issue where Apocalypse turns Angel into Archangel? It wasn’t in Mutant Massacre.
Is in the fall of the mutants HC
Jose got you! Yep Fall of the Mutants!
Cool and the gang ✊🏽 yes Sir
Looks great!!!!!
Yesssir. Hoping stock levels are fixed.
p.s. who's excited for ZSJL
Not me. I like my super heroes to actually resemble the comics.
@@TokuAndAnimationNewsNetwork your loss I guess, but I respect your opinion.
hated josses, wasn't terribly excited for this one. ended up loving it. go figure. doesn't redeem bvs tho, yeuuchhh
Oh yeah I do.
