Agreed, I really would've preferred a warning. I think most of us purchasing the omni understand the context of Kitty's speech as well as the era in which it was written.
Yes. There is no reason for censorship that is trying to be educational. No one who uses those words towards people learn them from material that actively tries to stop that behavior.
really good overview omar ,i could watch you talk about every issue in that book, in every overview video really i always enjoy vids taking their time showing off books. because i learn alot about comics watching you.
Interesting that they censored the words for "New Mutants" #45. It's censored in the digital version on Marvel Unlimited, and, presumably, must be censored on Comixology. But the trade and hardcover for "Marvel Comics: The World Outside Your Window," leaves the words intact probably due to the nature of the book. I do like the blurb they added at the bottom of this Omnibus, though, about the hotline and resources for those struggling.
@@TheComicBookReport It's one of those series that I argue is in the latter. Much as I love the run, it can be a bit slow and the teenage drama, while I like it, it is pretty typical. It does start to pickup once Magik joins the group and Claremont really finds his footing( The demon Bear saga is excellent). Overall, I'd say it is worth checking out the team. Incidentally, I still have this issue and re-read it to make sure I wasn’t imagining what I remembered when first reading it as a child. Kitty’s speech is so in-your-face crude but with heart. It was heartbreaking because when I high school, I had a friend who killed himself because he was gay and didn’t anyone finding out; not his friends or his family. He was so ashamed of who he really was that decided it’d be better to be dead than to live his truth. Kitty’s speech has been taken out of context through the choice of words used. Shame on Disney/Marvel for censorship of this very powerful material. I say BOYCOTT this censored version of this book. At least until Marvel sees reason to reprint it uncensored. If they were smart, they’d reprint an uncensored version made-to-order with proof of age as an adult. If they don’t want kids reading it fine. I like both covers and choosing which I want has been a process. Omar, just like you, I couldn't get all the comics I wanted. Except I choose Secret Wars 2 event book over tie ins. Frugal? yes. Wise choice? Not so much. Would have been nice if Marvel kept the censored page in the "extras" section.
Was confused awhile there when uou said that the DM dustjacket cover was Special#2 then later said the same image on the bookcover and front piece was Special#1.
Great review, Omar, of a great Omnibus. The Extras are beautiful and love they included Firestar four-issue series. I have her X-Men Origins edition and its great. The problem here is that they managed to spoil it with a single, irrational and dangerous act. It totally goes against what they preach and the flags they have been raising lately, which is precisely freedom of speech. A complete inconsistency. We readers should send a direct and important message to Marvel/Disney that, in this case, censorship is a brutality. I will sadly skip this one waiting for a reprint.😔
I just have to say that the censorship is straight bs. I absolutely do not support that and it almost is enough for a cancellation. You cannot rewrite history. They should have just given context. I guess I’m going to have to buy the old tpb for this issue.
Jeremy Slate They could have added a warning before the issue. This reminds me a lot of Mushoku Tensei where in the Light Novels the translated ones were censored, having removed entire scenes which while very lewd were plot relevant. Fans were pissed and the outrage was enough that the LN company publishing Mushoku Tensei reissued the books with the content added. I make my stance very firm. I am not denying the words uttered in that panel are bad/ hurtful. But they are a product of the time and I believe the art of that period, no matter how hurtful, needs to be maintained.
You never Heard of somebody wanting fallen Angels collected? I bought the Premiere hard cover some years ago since i have been curious about syrin and Maddrox relationship for years when they Met on muir Island..
Interesting to note that I initially received an incorrect copy, where the Web of Spidey Annual was not included completely. Instead, a section of 16 pages was duplicated. Not the worst part of the book to be missing, but I still asked for a new copy, which was flawless.
I’m very disappointed to hear that an issue was censored. Art, whatever form it takes, should never be altered by censors who judge art they didn’t create with their specific point of views. In a free society, people should be able to interpret art by themselves.
Yeah, especially in the beginning of the books when they said in the disclaimer that they were presenting the stuff unaltered as a learning experience.
Am reading this now. Not happy about the censorship of issue 45. This being AFTER they had the disclaimer in the beginning of the book that they were leaving things unaltered as a learning experience. They left the first letter so I could make out what most of the slurs were but it's still dumb and cheapens the whole point of that speech. I hate censorship and I'm tempted to buy the issue on Ebay just to have it in its original form, since it doesn't seem TOO pricy, but we'll see. This omnibus as a whole is kind of difficult for me to read, not because of the contents, which are great, but because the binding on my copy is messed up and Instock Trade only allows 2 days after receiving the product to return it. I glued things back together and I THINK it's okay but I still hear crackling sometimes so I'm still so scared of messing it up again. Definitely a pain in the ass, especially since volume 1 had such good binding. No need for a volume 3 because New Mutants 55 through 73 are already collected in Fall of the Mutants, Inferno Prologue, and Inferno omnibuses. They'd just need to collect issues 74 through to the end to get all of New Mutants collected in omnibus format and not sure how Marvel would go about doing that.
I pre-ordered this and I’m looking forward to getting it! I hadn’t read much New Mutants before getting volume one and had a lot of fun with seeing these characters when they were younger after growing up with the original X-Force
A fine book, will pass as I have the Classics that cover this era. Good that Firestar is included. Shame about the censorship with issue 45. New Mutants seemed to be a maligned title for most of its run. But I always enjoyed it.
Sooooo happy to finally get Volume 2 -- I was psyched to get the Art Adams cover (when it was solicited) but this redesign is waaaaay different. I hate that Marvel keeps doing that! -- Also the "frame" around the cover art just reduces the impact of the cover -- the abstract background doesn't add anything.
Think I'm going to go with the BWS cover but it's such a close call, both are phenomenal. Love those stories, Magneto as Michael Xavier and being the headmaster of the school really worked for me back then, gave everything a bit of an edge and a bit of unpredictability.
Disappointed by that censorship and will skip. That's ridiculous. Selective censorship like this makes no sense. Tomorrow it could be another speech, too tight costumes, etc. Place a disclaimer in the opening of the book if need be and move on. This book should be delayed to fix this issue. C'mon now.
As far as I'm concerned they can end the collections of New Mutants here. The Louise Simonson run is horrible, especially for Magik. Simonson forgot what happened in the Magik mini-series and wrote Illyana as if she'd killed Belasco instead of sparing him in Limbo. Her entire characterization is based on that giant mistake and I firmly believe N'Astirh was created because Simonson thought Belasco was dead and so a new villain was needed. The New Mutants parts of Inferno were atrocious.
I thought the same thing but for Xmen (90s) but New Mutants ended up being one of my.best Omni reads last year. Not sure if its cause I lowered the bar.
This series is a blindspot for me. As someone who just started getting into Claremont's X-Men within the last few years, I need someone to sell me on why I need both New Mutants Omnis, lol.
I'll give it a shot! 😁 For me, Louise Simonson is right up there with Chris Claremont. When I was collecting way back when, her New Mutants and X-Factor runs were just as exciting to me as Claremont's stuff.
Magneto has always been my favorite character since he has always been the "Good Villain" Guy. Well, to be honest "my" always is not the "actual" always since my first issue was uncanny X-men 168 (not kidding Omar) which means I joined the mutants after 150... and even after 161... I.e., after Chris Claremont got rid of what I call "the John Byrne effect" (JB has always been keen on an evil Magneto, we all know that)
You are a pro and a gentleman when addressing the controversial issue and the censored dialogue sir. Thank you.
The best part about censored books is that I don't have to waste my dinero/cheeze.
I love that you talked about issue 45. That's my favorite New Mutants issue.

Of course I'm picking this up! Can't wait for the whole series to make it to omnibus form.
I pre-ordered this and I’m looking forward to getting it! I hadn’t read much New Mutants before getting volume one and had a lot of fun with seeing these characters when they were younger after growing up with the original X-Force
This is the good stuff right here.
Oh my God I love this. I will be getting the Barry Windsor Smith cover. It will be worth the wait. ❤❤❤Marvel comics rocks. 🤘🏼👍🏼✌🏽
I am so pumped for this omnibus! I went with the Windsor-Smith cover but both are nice.
Karma wasn't possessed by her brother, but by the Shadow King.
C'mon now.
Good extras
By censoring the book Marvel made the decision for me, I'm not getting this.
So excited to read this!
What?!? Charley had a heart attack in the x-men comic before leaving to be cured, asking mags to take over the school . Not a duchebag move.
Dooood. Spoilers…. ;)
O, look...Marvel is capable of still doing a nice spine!
$150 for a censored book? No thanks.
New Mutants..was never my Jam lol My Jam was Generation X..much better Art 👍 I hope It gets the Omnibus Treatment...soon 🙈
I thought the same thing but for Xmen (90s) but New Mutants ended up being one of my.best Omni reads last year. Not sure if its cause I lowered the bar.
Looking forward to this one.
Eagerly awaiting its arrival!
Uncandy bromar
Censorship is a disease.
HAZAH!!!!
this censorship reminds me of communism, good work Marvel
Magneto has always been my favorite character since he has always been the "Good Villain" Guy. Well, to be honest "my" always is not the "actual" always since my first issue was uncanny X-men 168 (not kidding Omar) which means I joined the mutants after 150... and even after 161... I.e., after Chris Claremont got rid of what I call "the John Byrne effect" (JB has always been keen on an evil Magneto, we all know that)
