Why are these comments so salty? I am not a Max fan but you can't very well argue with what Newey is saying about his character, he knows him personally and you don't.
@coin5207 because Newey cries about Senna's death but excuses Max's dangerous antics. He ignores Max deliberately driving over Hamilton's head in Monza and boasting "that's what you get". Hypocrisy.

Competition doesn't work like that, race result fixing to that level is the worst crime one can commit in competition, regardless of who you feel deserves to win, you don't fix the result, period. I wonder what Newey thinks of Maradona's "Hand of God" goal, that was 1986 and it wasn't even the final, this lot still remind us of how England was robbed, that was 38 years ago and yet somehow the same biased bunch would like Lewis Hamilton to immediately forget this crime that robbed him of his hard earned 8th world Championship. Done on the last lap of the last race of the season with no opportunity to respond. when are these bootlickers gonna realize that lewis was only close to even winning the championship cause of mercedes' terror attack in silverstone and hungary, just be thankful lewis even had a chance in abu dhabi lmao he never deserved it
Obviously Newey is biased. It’s important to point out that the feud and drama started when Horner went absolutely nuts after Silverstone. He accused Mercedes and Hamilton of attempting to murder Verstappen. Horner kept pouring oil on the fire throughout the season, instead of keeping calm and defusing the drama. That was one of the reasons why Verstappen went absolutely beserk in those last stages of the season. He kept trying to slam Hamilton into DNF’s. The complete brainfart of Michael Masi in Abu Dhabi was the final nail in the coffin of sportsmanship and (temporarily) also for F1. Honestly, I’m not a fan of either, but I seriously considered to stop watching F1 after that (I’ve been watching F1 for 35 years).
Max deserved that title so much if you look at the whole season. Looking at silverstone, as before that race lewis said one dnf could change things. and also baku, where max his tyre exploded on the straight. Pirelli blamed debri but introduced a new tyre two weeks after. Mercedes was also playing with the rules by using a new engine every week to use such a crazy engine setting. But i can understand the abu dabhi ending is controversial.
Yes, well thought-trough, although not really to everyone's liking in the comments! You don't have to agree with the man, but I do really like to follow his thought-process - you can learn sth from it!
Great interview with a true genius. The only issue is that it was unrealistic to expect Mercedes to simply let that lost championship go. They were robbed, not by Red Bull of course, but by the race director.
Agreed. When you lose because of a clearly incompetent decision, it will hurt. Not only because of the loss, but because if you don't believe it was incompetence (which it almost certainly was), then you go into the future thinking what's the point of the effort if it's that easy to take it from us
Mercedes it self did not wanted Ham to become a 8wc, this is crazy. A very profecional script, but left a lot trace behind. Narative involved as well as other teams. You can see this on #F1EXED.

The thing Newey fails to address is how Horner mithers and manipulated the fia. Horner is the problem, the cheat, verstapen was just the beneficiary, Michael Masi the victim. The only person that that came out of the season with credibility ironically was Lewis Hamilton.
I do remember Silverstone, Max crashed out after they went into a corner together, he weaved on the straight got the other car on the inside then turned in on it leaving it nowhere to go. 9 times out of 10 those antics causes the other car to back out. On this occasion he left nowhere to go and the crash was inevitable. I don’t think we can look at what happened at Silverstone and just say everyone did everything they could to win. There was a lot of incident that season that made it a great season and I think either driver was a deserving champion but Abu Dhabi was a disgrace, Christian Horner was an embarrassment to the sport, whining at race director until they fixed it, and Michael Masi was sacked over it. Just saying Adrian Newey is a smart bloke, and it’s a shame he fails to comment on what happened rather than how they reacted to it.
@@Michael-j5w9k Pure LIES. The whole WORLD saw what happened, remember? Verstappen went round the outside and left *more than enough space* for Hamilton. Hamilton who could not keep up went in to hot, could not control his car and understeered into Verstappen. The FIA clearly changed the rules so that only 1 team and 1 driver had a chance to win the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. Instead of staying humble (in victory as well as in defeat) Redbull celebrated like the sewer rats they are, never admitting the clear wrong doing of the FIA. F1 is corrupt.
And maybe it is a true blessing that Hamilton will never have to work with Newey. He wouldn't be on his side. British bias doesn't fully apply to Hamilton because he's not caucasian.
They all just want to win races and get rich? why can't you leave your troubled fantastic what if ideas aside. Also screw the British and ALL media in general!

I think the discussion is only about 2021 not about their skill in general. With their current form I dont see how lewis can win against max considering how far away from his peak lewis probably is right now.
Newey is a brilliant engineer that seems to always find the loopholes in the regulations. However, his comments about Abu Dhabi 21 are abhorrent. What happened was criminal. Just imagine how RB would’ve reacted if the roles were reversed. And what is all this nonsense about Max being mature, deep, and philosophical? We can all see his behavior every race. Does he think we’re all blind and stupid?

Glossing over two important regulations, that have always been applied for decades, not being followed. Sainz was robbed of a chance to challenge Max because the back markers between the two were not let through. That would have changed that last lap.
@Taz-wf4jl I totally get where you're coming from. With all due respect to Newey, it's one thing when your car fails or a driver makes a mistake-that's something you can move past. But when someone intentionally steals victory from you by ignoring the regulations on the last lap of a championship, that’s a whole different story. I really wonder if RB would have just brushed it off or, as he says, "got over it" by Monday. The truth is, there was no Monday to get to. The season was done.

@KL50450 you're just reading and applying the rules the way you want to. Safety car resets the race for all competitors. If there is not enough time to do that in a safe manner then it's a safety car finish. Just like Baku the other day. Doesn't matter if it's the first race or last race of the season, that's the procedure that should be followed. Only 1 driver on the grid benefits from that cowboy decision they made. Everyone from P3 down did not have opportunity to improve on their race or final championship standing. It's as much a procedure for sporting fairness as well as safety.
It either took Max 7 years to learn tyre management or the asymmetric braking eventually did it for him. I know what my money is on. Being able to move on from genuine mistakes or bad luck is a good trait, moving on from incompetence or malicious intent without addressing it robustly is a bad trait. A good example would be the state of the UK today due to the failure to address past issues caused by people whose public image was more important than their ability to do a job.
I rather have French fries with mustard and pudding instead of camping in the subway without a washing machine. Or in short. Dude I have no idea what you are talking about.
British media bias haha people watch the races themselves and make up their mind, nothing to do with media opinions. Max is a poor wheel to wheel driver when up against someone in similar level machinery. He spots the dummy when people don't yield and just let him by. No doubt a fast driver but not a good racer .
I like that Max fans are angry with Mo Bin Salem because he wants to stop Max from swearing, but lets face it is was Mo Bin and Domenicali that handed Max the 2021 victory, it was staged from the get go. Also, was Newey flappy-wings aware that the RB car had Assymetrical braking bias?
Vettel and Verstappen were not appreciated because they were disrespectful, arrogant and lacked sportsmanship when they were on top. Max was also a dirty driver too so of course they would not be universally praised, why should it be? Vettel matured and became a loved and well respected figure in the sport, some drivers will only be appreciated when they retire.

In Spain, just a month previous, the tables were reversed and it was Max who was in Lewis's Silverstone position and Lewis backed off and survived to come back later in the race and win. His own words and then he had the cheek to blame Lewis for Silverstone.

That season was incredible. Max was the better driver all season but lewis deserved to win in AB2021. Cant wait for a documentary on the season a few decades from now.
Max was the better driver for the first half of the season. Mostly by putting them both in a certain crash situation. Lewis had already won 7 championships, and well aware to finish 1st, first you must finish. By the mid point he realised continuously backing out was not going to win the championship. The first time he didn’t back out, Max crashed… and cried because that’s his psychological make up, a chip off the old block. In the second half of the season, Lewis was the better driver and did so cleanly, something Max failed to achieve. Then finally the only way Max and RB could win the title was to fix. Shame for him really.
Lewis was robbed in 2021 by the race director breaking rule and no one calling it out, complicit! Newey designed a car with illegal brakes, he has no credibility when talking about character. My opinion

Hamilton fanboys are SO disastrously bad. They just can't keep their filthy mouths shut even when Newey says it. Hamilton is totally, fully and absolutely responsible for the Silverstone crash, putting Verstappen out of the race then going for the win. That move deserved the harshest punishment for Hamilton but the stewards closed their eyes resulting in Hamilton getting full 23 points. THAT was controversial! In Abu Dhabi, whatever "controversial" (yes, in quotes, because still not a single rule was broken!) happened, it just and only amended what happened in Silverstone.
They gave him a 10s penalty in silvertone, which is pretty harsh considering they were both deemed at fault, but Hamilton was predominantly at fault. In AD21, the race director broke the rules, when calling it the safety car. Even the FIA report confirms that. Learn to rea folks
Total BS. Crashtappen is a dirty driver and constantly pushes the boundaries of sporting behaviour, his many moves and brake checks on SLH44 in that 21 season were appalling. He deserved what he got, especially after parking his car on 44's head in Italy!

The biggest controversy would’ve been if Lewis won that championship. Yes, AB ‘21 should’ve probably been his race (although that is also debatable since his corner cutting was not punished), but the real robbing happened earlier that season leading to Lewis even having enough points to have a chance to win the championship that race.
What robbery? Silverstone was the first time Lewis actually put his foot down rather than backing out. Max’s driving that year was abhorrent and downright pathetic at times (Saudi & Brazil being the worst) not to mention running Lewis off the road on multiple occasions before that such as T1 at Imola and T1 at Spain both of which would have been a crash if Lewis didn’t back out and run off track. People still defending Max’s driving that year are nothing short of morons with a chunk of their brain missing.
What robbing? max with no pen in Brazil despite clearly opening his wheels into Lewis, or Max pushing Lewis off in Imola and wrecking his floor and race or Max putting his car on Lewis head and keeping his foot down, or Max brake checking in Jeddah or Max getting points and a win (most important part) in Spa. I, for one am sick of hearing about how much of a genius Newey is. He's just one man, not the only designer in F1 capable of producing a winning car. Of course Mercedes didn't lodge an appeal in 2021. It was because their own lawyers told them that it was doomed to failure because Hamilton had commited two offences earlier in the race that had gone unpunished. But, of course, the Mercedes fans ( soon to mysteriously become Ferrari fans) are not interested in facts, just bullshit that they can agree with.
"Hamilton had commited two offences earlier in the race that had gone unpunished" WTF???? That was a forcing another driver OFF the track from verstoppen, and they LIED back this bullshit. Nothing to give penalty for Ham. But Verstappen/Perez/Latifi/Masi got away with crimes unpunished.
“Max was a bit out of order in Brazil” Saudi was a ding dong ?! Cmon Adrian, you might be a genius with car design, but cut the BS in protecting Max. Making him look a little less culpable where possible.
I think that Abu Dhabi is the focus for both Max and Lewis fans. Overall, you can be critical of both teams (and drivers) and say it shouldn't have come down to the last race and lap anyway... Many missed opportunities during the whole 2021 season for both teams, but it is not discussed. Perhaps the collisions between the racers are discussed, but there were many circuits where there were no incidents and both Red Bull and Mercedes fumbled. Also, the hate for Max is petty. He drives the car, made the overtake. The FIA made the decision to allow drivers to race. Ultimately, don't hate the players, hate the game... Don't blame the guy that drives the car - he did his part. If it would have gone to Lewis, that final lap, then every Lewis supporter would parrot what Max supporters say currently. Either way, the whole '21 season should be viewed holistically and both RB and Merc could have done more throughout.
I guess because the Silverstone accident was actually really bad and the reaction in the pit lane didn't look all that great in hindsight. When people get mad they start writing nonesense in social media which i would classify as hate and anger rather than racism. The Vettel Redbull days were much harder in terms of hate he received yet no one would classify it as racist.

Newey, of course, knows Verstappen far better than I and most of us. But Verstappen still has a temper that can get the better of him on the racetrack--at least as far as a fan can tell watching races on TV. I also think Hamilton put Abu Dabi in the rearview mirror pretty quickly. I agree that Red Bull was not a culprit in that race but, honestly, Mercedes and Hamilton were clearly cheated out of the win and that's what so many of us find so frustrating. Verstappen's win should have an asterisk attached to it. I also think it is important to acknowledge that no matter how great a driver, without the right car wins will be hard to come by. Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton are clear examples of that and Verstappen, at least at the moment, is experiencing the same thing. The real proof of their greatness as drivers is that they're keeping their less-than-perfect cars competitive at the front even if they're not winning races.
Max was gifted a championship, how would it affect him other than positively, how does this guy expect it to get to his head like he says it got to the heads of the Mercedes guys. The interviewer is either deliberately ignoring this obvious follow up question to allow Newey the chance to elaborate or he is plainly incompetent, I would go with the former.
Max obviously doesn’t have that much spare capacity as he thought he was undercut by CL in Singapore where he hadn’t actually made a pit stop. That would have been obvious if he’d had looked at his tyres when joining the track (at relatively slow speed) in turn 3 and CL was right next to him. Nope.

Agreed. When you lose because of a clearly incompetent decision, it will hurt. Not only because of the loss, but because if you don't believe it was incompetence (which it almost certainly was), then you go into the future thinking what's the point of the effort if it's that easy to take it from us

But, of course, the Mercedes fans ( soon to mysteriously become Ferrari fans) are not interested in facts, just bullshit that they can agree with.
"Hamilton had commited two offences earlier in the race that had gone unpunished"
WTF???? That was a forcing another driver OFF the track from verstoppen, and they LIED back this bullshit. Nothing to give penalty for Ham. But Verstappen/Perez/Latifi/Masi got away with crimes unpunished.
What you wrote isn't fact. That is the fact.
“Max was a bit out of order in Brazil”
Saudi was a ding dong ?!
Cmon Adrian, you might be a genius with car design, but cut the BS in protecting Max. Making him look a little less culpable where possible.
👍👍👍
But why did Lewis receive so much racist comments when this happened it was sad
No one cares about Lewis except the UK
@@user-by9xk7yo2n doesn’t excuses the racism. And actually his the most popular F1 driver ever
@@user-by9xk7yo2n right, just ignore all the races outside the UK where he gets among the most support of all of the drivers
@@yasmine8164 Are you somehow confused by what the word racism means? They are talking about the racial comments and insults relating to him being black
Why would Sebastian Vettel receive racism from a predominantly white fanbase?
If Max is “incredibly mature “ then You Adrian are Incredibly immature 🤡
Now Adrian is also immature? 😂😂😂😂 only you are so adult right?
One of the most immature posts of this season. Keep on doing the good work.👍
am not gonna watch the video becouse what he said was already circulting in the social media so i lost my respect to this man
Social media has distorted it. Newey seemed a lot more honest that what I had read he said.
Max and being mature?! 😂Lol joke of the century!!
Your comment on RUclips disagreeing to the greatest F1 designer that ever existed looks super mature 😅
@mindebrolis9582 I don't care who he is !! It's like because he worked with Max,he's trying to defend that crybaby!! Saying Max is mature, shows a level of hypocrisy and sycophancy!!
He beat a 7 times wdc, no one can do that without maturity
@@soroushnekcomeon Wake up and try to come out your wet Lewis dream
@@soroushneknonsense when verstappen came to f1 he was 16 and then he was already more mature than most 25 year olds everyone who worked with him says that
Comments are funny. S.L.H is the greatest to ever do it. Period point blank. Not up for discussion. Look at the stats
You mean the stats of Verstappen outperforming him time and again? Hamilton is a great driver, but he has only won WDC's while he was in an absolutely superior Mercedes. Verstappen won the WDC in 2021 with a car that was less than the Mercedes, and he is now the clear leader in the WDC standings in a car that is maybe the 3d or 4th in the field.
this clown is telling Mercedes to move on when a championship was stolen from them. Redbul couldnt move on from silverstone and had albon drive to report it to the FIA. They even got so much racists attacking lewis because of horner
You clowns don't understand that the 2021 Championship almost was stolen from max
@@Ron-GIT Decisions in both directions, right back to track limits at the first race when the stewards changed their minds during the race itself. It was engineered to go to the last race.
They tried to steal the championship in Silverstone and Hungary by sniping the competition.
You reap what you sow.
Besides Lewis first 5 championship wins were illegal. Won 2008 with a silver Ferrari and a fixed race. Won 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 with an illegal engine.
Somebody have any prove that something was stolen? I'm 100% sure nobody will provide any.
Red bull and christian horner contributed to so much racial hate Lewis received that day

Right, it hurts, doesn't it? Being told the *truth* by someone who has actual knowledge...
Max is a great driver, but he doesn't seem like a friendly person.
Good job he gets paid to race and not socialise isn’t it
Totally clueless. Lewis is a great driver, but he doesn’t seem very genuine.
Mercedes had to complain to keep its German executive board happy. It was a pointless show.
You have to respect Newey's record but he does whitewash a lot of what happened in '21 here.
It’s embarrassing that you guys are deleting my comments pointing out how this incident causing racism. We will be unsubscribe it’s disgusting that you will delete comments
comment is still there lol
RACISM everywhere where there are verstappenbiased are gathering.
I like to listen to how Adrian explains F1 but I do disagree that Max has his own mind. Looking from the outside in, Max is controlled and bullied by his awful father. The only control Max has is when he is actually in the car and giving feedback.
Well you’re wrong. Newey is closer then you will ever be so see your own flawed reasoning.
Adrian Obviously is lacking mentality 🤡 Ps. I feel sorry for Aston Martin.
Hope he will build some slow ass car for them!
Max hides his intellect well.
Instead he just does his usual gob off at the race engineer.🙄
whats max missing is coolness factor. he is boring
Lol he is the only interesting driver out there and the best
That's what makes him cool unlike Lewis
Yeah he needs to start wearing some silly clothes and chains, that will make him cool
Nobody needs those Penywise outfits. Lewis does this just to hide his insecurity. That and the fact that he is gay. Not that it matters but to him it does.

This is nuts, did he just say it got to Mercedes, they didn't even appeal in court and totto was partying. The fact that he can't even say that Christian begged the race director, and that contributed to what happened, happy this guy isn't going to Ferrari, also lewis gets the most hate by the media, Silverstone max, fault but ok cool, then he marks the car on lewis and if the halo was not around lewis is probably dead, but everyone still talks about Silverstone, when both were result of max aggressiveness, but no one talks about that. And then the host what a joke, tries to say it was all the race director not red bull, like they were not lobbying him while it was happening, this show lost all creditability
A shame he drew the false equivalence of mechanical failure vs direct manipulation of a result by an individual influenced by their team. Silverstone is a joke too.. lewis held his ground in the same way max had in countless previous races without punishment. No mention of driving over lewis's head either. Toxic af team RB
Bruh, Hamilton went in to fast and torpedo'd Verstappen. He lost control and should have been punished in stead of being rewarded with the race win.
