10:25 New GPU, Don't Care About 3D Gaming
Mike needs a new GPU, his Intel Graphics won't support a 3840x2160 monitor, but he's a photographer that runs Photoshop and Lightroom, and could care less about 3D gaming. We've got reccos!

Was wondering when I'd see another video from you guys and was contemplating doing a Rasp Pi emulator!
I really enjoy your videos guys...keep it up...
17:14 Awesome. Quoting lines from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. LOL
Oh hey, Patrick Norton. Used to watch you and Leo on ScreenSavers in ye days of olde. Glad to see you're still at it. :)
I was able to build my own pie for under a hundred, it was a raspberry pie 1 mobel b I found on ebay for 15 dollars. It was a lucky find but it has only 2 usb ports. Great Video, glad I found this channel, I am a big pie fan.
"You've got toys."
He was trying so hard not to laugh.
I enjoyed your new mini overview. expected a modding feature though.
Very good Canal RUclips.
Brazilian like and subscribed. Thank's you.
Question about the HD with the Pie..can you copy everything over to the new setup without having to reinstall everything! I keep all my roms in Folders anyway.. but.. the time not wasted would be nice!
Does the Classic use custom roms for the saving and the crt/pixel perfect modes, or are these save states within the os and graphical changes within the os?
I'm really wanting to make a retro pi, but saving would be nice, and graphical changes would be interesting.
Also, any 16:9 hacks for roms? Always been interested in playing older games with a newer display standard.
Also, does anyone have a list of safe roms with downloads? Multiple consoles?
I just want to outer shell so I can stuff my retro pi in it!
You can buy 3D printed NES outer shells specifically for a Pi, that even have a hinged flap. Give it a search on Ebay.
13GoldenSun thank you
Spider Man even better than a 3d printed version.
there is now a chinese knockoff version.
it cost about 20$ puls shipping. and its garbage. but the console shell is a perfect reproduction of the nes classic mini. you will likely need to or want to cover up the glaringly obvious "Game Console" lettering on it. with something that doesnt look like it will murder you in your sleep. perhaps a friendly raspberry pi logo. anyhow. i got my nes classic mi i knockoff from dh gate. they are also on aliexpress. you can also find famicom classic mini consoles on wish aliexpress and dh gate.
17:16 Line from Jeff Spicoli - Fast times at Ridgemont High. When they/he crashed Charles Jefferson's car, (the football player) played by Forest Whitaker. Circa 1982, I believe.
Gentleman Adventurer I caught that too... 😄
Wouldn't adding 3-4 128GB flash drives as /dev/sda1 through /dev/sda3 and mount them wherever work for about the same price? I bought 3 128GB usb 3.1 Sandisk drives (on special for $25 each) and use it for storage on the Pi running a PLEX server.
my winter project is a raspberry pi 3 running an emulator software (trying retro pi, lakka, and pie play to find out which runs the best) stuffed into an old nes console running all the roms i'd play for nes, snes, sega, n64, and playstation :)
Does using a WD PiDrive like this mitigate against sd corruption on a power failure? I imagine your HD data would be fine regardless (or at least recoverable like always with tools like TestDisk/PhotoRec), but what about the sd? Is there a way to protect the sd card in a PiDrive setup?
Who remembers tombstoners back in the day that complete mame romsets came on dvd in the mail ;)
I am into similar requirements , no gaming but photography. I use a 750ti by EVGA. It doesn't require any cables in the computer, runs from just the PCIecomputer, and it supports,Displayport, DVI, Dual Link DVI, HDMI and VGA. Displayport is the way to go, with any newer monitor, but it's useful to be able to use the other formats from time to time. Also this card is cool and quiet, and supports 4K 60Hz over Displayport.
I dropped $30-40 on the Gold Legend of Zelda Cartridge on eBay, $5 + shipping/handling on the Pi Zero, and roughly $40 on adaptors, USB NES Controller, led's (so when I plug in the Pi Zero, blue leds would light up around it), and a USB hub!
another positive of RBpi is the option to connect it to CRT tv via composite cable... (but I still want the mini XP ... )
I work with premier daily, working with multiple camera platforms. I am currently researching trying to find what the most efficient editing rig would be. Initially I thought a GPU would help improve everything fairly quickly as I currently rocking a good old GTX750. That being said premier primarily utilize the processor when cutting a video, and the GPU only coming into play with some aspects of the program. I wish adobe would utilize GPU in a larger capacity, taking the strain away from the CPU.
You mentioned a price comparison site somewhere in here, but now I can't find it -- help please?
for photo editing, i use photoshop for work also. yes 750ti is minimal for 4k. if you still use 1080p or 1440p, get a 2GB 128bit DDR5 card as minimum.
Typing this from my NES Classic.
Bottom Gamer typing this on my toaster
Classy Clorox toasting this on my typer.
Nintendo ALWAYS short supply, have done for decades.
They lower supply to build hype and to raise stock prices
Rado they put out low supply because they never have any idea what the schizophrenic public is and isn't going to like and they don't want to sit on a huge supply of something that it turns out people don't like.
AOClaus Oh please. It's the same thing that happened with the Amiibo. They saw there was a demand for them and still made the next waves in short supply to raise the demand higher. Also, a low supply of an electronics product is in the 10,000's and not 3 in this store, 6 in the other.
They had short supply for the Wii U, that's what killed the console
Rado didn't even look for that console by the time was released, I'm a serious collector and maybe I'll get it at some sort of almost for free swap meet
Hmm... I noticed at 07:36 that Mario Bros 2 was gone from the menu. It sits right between one and three. Someone already been tweaking that console?
can you run reys 128gb retropie with attract mode off the pidrive?
How did you change cameras with that button
wow haven't seen this guy since Tech Tv went bye bye ...SUBBED!
SAME HERE!!! Dunno who the purple haired girl is but I would patreon to see more of her... what was the name of the guy who co-starred with Olivia Munn on Attack of the Show(nerdy..had glasses and black curly hair) He used to have a cool blogsite but I haven't been to it since 2007( In military and have been deployed overseas so lost touch with old favs) - I think his first name is Chris..???
The purple haired woman (I'm 30) has been podcasting for almost a decade via hak5.org. Check it out if ya want! Though it's a lot more hard core than TekThing, because Hak5 is a show for and by hackers. That's why I talk security so much on TekThing - Shannon
TekThing thabks for replying and not taking my comment in a snide way..You are definitely not a "girl" in the sense some may mean. You look young and energetic and standing next to a clumsy bald "dude" only adds to both! I only recently stumbled on this channel but have been absorbing shows since..Never patreon anything before but am pulling the trigger tonight. Thanks for making a great show!
Nintendo's strategy with this was to create a new feeling about the next release of the switch, and actually already happened at least at usa, here at spain we still have no problems with that, I have prepaid the reservation for all the accesories, Zelda B of the W and the console itself with no problem
liked and subbed for the lick!
236 likes and ZERO dislikes for this ep. I can count on one hand the number of RUclips videos I've ever seen with this ratio.
Achievement Unlocked!
I will remember to mute my Alexa and my Dot(s) from here on out while watching your segments.... :-)
Def for a different demographic. No one around me knows what a raspberry pi is. And the case alone for the nes classic is adorable. I have the cib NES that looks pretty much the same as the classic box. I own most of the games on it and have a pi but still want one! But won't play the craze or try too hard to snag one up.
adobe cc programs tend to munch a lot of VRAM so would go with one of the 750(ti) models with 4GB VRAM or a 1050ti
When running 4k monitors with adobe products gotta be careful because not sure about CC but CS6 doesnt support menu scaling. So you get TINY UI which is super annoying. There are work arounds but thats very different to it running great out of the box.
AMD uses the open source OpenCL framework which also works well with the Lightroom. OpenCL allows for a single GPU which should be fine for most people, Nvidia's CUDA allows for SLI.
The Leatherman Skeletool CX, great for a lot of things... not so great for straightening R-pi GPIO pins!!!
Would my WaveBird Wireless Controller work with the NES Classic?
if you use a mayflash gamecube to classic controller adapter
like this one www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BS520SG/, yes you can.
Is Snubs gonna do some EME?
It's $60 IF you can get one. I checked on Ebay, and they were selling it at least double at that price.
I'll stick to my RetroPie for the time being (I just need a bigger micro SD card and a classic controller).
(and I typed this comment before watching the rest of the video, and Shannon did mention the Ebay prices).
Is there an option to install retropie?
can i purchase a rasberry pi with rom and emualotrs from you? if so how much? great xmas gift.
older versions of photoshop fell on its face with gpu acceleration enabled, amd and nvidia with cheap video cards, new versions seem to work awesome. For 4k any r9 series card seems to work with the 2160 resolution. Even though it did not say it supported it I was able to do the same thing with my r7 240 in my portable machine.
Nintendo loves memberberries
Totally agree, $200 is too much, but this is perfect for our kids to play the stuff we played, and also agree with the retro pie buildup but this is a Nintendo Official product and for $60 is a no brainier.
Exactly. I think a lot of folks are missing that point. For a collector, this is a 'no duh' console. For someone who strictly wants all the things, build a RetroPie. We won't be butt hurt about it either way. - Shannon
The Orange Pi 3 has a SATA plug and power and can drive 4k. I have 3 of them. Just waiting for the install and boot up software to be a little more user friendly.
It is user friendly... Try installing Debian 2.0 on a Pentium Pro, that is also not that hard ;)
What does that have to do with an Orange Pi?
It's easy to install. There are tons of Tutorials out there, just search...
Duck hunt would be cool, as it stands, Duck hunt nor any zapper games work on new (lcd) TV's. The zapper requires a CRT to function (google for the techy reasons). So, while the game itself would be a great addition, an updated zapper would be killer!! We'll figure out how to make it pi compatible ;)
anyone else notice that the WD pie browser had an adblocker running?
What is the advantage of running off of a pidrive? I just use an external HDD on my pi and put all the movies and roms on it and the OS is the SD card.
Move most of the OS off the card to save the many read and write cycles, I suppose.
Hmm, I guess, but micro sd cards are cheap
Are there any better/ergo controllers for the NES Classic Edition?
I saw one on Amazon that had rounded corners, but it was only in preorder status.
You can use any Wii Classic Controller compatible controller
Niyack
Search 8bitdo. The best controllers for the classic consoles.
8BitDo makes great controllers that are absolutely great build quality and they have one that has the shape of an SNES controller. Their controllers are the best Bluetooth controllers you can get. They even make Bluetooth receivers that plug into the old NES and SNES so you can use them with the original system.
how many channels are you going to make then abandoned?
His previous channels right were owned by revision3. Odds are they no longer wished to continue them, and since Michael didn't own the rights, he needed to create a new channel
GregC96 He also had another channel call possible unsafe or something like that, that he just abadoned without a word
Michael got an awesome job! But you can find Patrick on TekThing and AVXCEL, both of which are independent shows. Unfortunately DIY Tryin and Tekzilla (and all previous shows) were owned by networks, so if the network wanted to cancel a show, they could. - Shannon
and the channel Possibly Unsafe? they left it without a word
I can't speak for Michael or the show because I never worked on it, other than I know he got an awesome job! - Shannon
I recently got an NES classic edition and I have almost beaten Mega Man 2 already
only the US version of NES Classic Edition includes AC adapter
Almost as bad as no adapter for New 3DS.
Not a big problem, it will work with most micro USB phone/tablet chargers.
BUT it's stupid that we pay the same price and get less, that's not fair!
Mike can for sure afford at least a gtx 1050ti if he has all that nice camera gear and software. Even cheap "Gamer" cards are great for photo editing and general computing.
I recommend getting a mainstream budget card like a gtx 1050ti or AMD RX 460. These cards will be supported for a longer time.
RPi3 can boot from USB without a microSD card.
30 NES ROMS takes you hours to download? How many weeks does it take you to upload a RUclips video then?
Huh? I said I have 50 Gigs of ROMS that take hours to download, not the 30 games.
You were both discussing the pros and cons of the mini, compared to a Pi, and why you would buy the mini over the Pi. You said, among other things, "and no spending hours downloading." There aren't 50GB worth of NES ROMs in existence. If you include all systems, then sure, but then it's hardly a fair comparison. Downloading 237MB of every NES ROM ever made took me less than one minute.
i have to get one
6:09
Funny you should mention that. It's happened.
Can I get your 50GB of roms lol love to know how to set mine up to play all N64 games.
recalbox have a USB boot mode and play n64 and PlayStation games.
hey patrik, pls get a brighter set. this dark set deisgn gives a negative feeling,
I would pay either of you to build me one of those retropie systems with the entire NES and SNES catalog installed on it. any takers? I'll give you a free NES Classic Edition!
i like pie, retropie
Wow, for what these things cost on ebay, you can buy a pre-built retropi system, play that until the classics are back in stock, buy the classic and you'd still end up paying less than what you'd pay for one on ebay.
Why do the colors look off for Mario?
Zestypanda the colors are okay coming from the nes classic. it's probably their capture card that messed up.
I think part of the reason why Nintendo don't produce enough consoles to meet demand is... The have an incompetent supply chain manager who can't source enough components and factories to make them. Apple is the only company in the world who is a master at this. Apple can corner the world's entire supply of a new component by buying the entire lot of parts as easy as telling the factory "I'll buy as much as you can produce. In fact, I actually need more than what your current factory can make. Here's some money and go build me a new factory!"
Ahh yeah... I remember the dude when he had hair and I had Tech TV
the Pi drive has 314 gigabyte.... you know, pi is 3,14 and so on.
Magamia?
Still rather have a Nintendo pi
no one talks about Sega's and atari's mini. i saw them at BJ's.
If only there was a think called a SATA Shield for the Raspberry Pi that would allow you to use 3TB SATA drives, Why not go with a Gigabyte Motherboard with FM4+ and go with an AMD A10-7800k A10-7850k and 32-64GB of GDDR3 and no external graphics you don't need it as the AMD A10-7800k or A10-7850k has a Radeon R7 graphics card and True Audio sound card inside the AMD A10-7800k or A10-7850k.
Shannon's hair looks Fantastickle c^ -^n
Your icon looks fantastickle!
If they think ROM's can only be found on dubious foreign sites they clearly know nothing about emulating. Also, I've seen Raspberry Pi emulation systems smaller than that Nintendo console. Hell they can fit in those easy enough.
The name “GNU” is a recursive acronym for “GNU's Not Unix.” “GNU” is pronounced g'noo, as one syllable, like saying “grew” but replacing the r with n.
From www.gnu.org/home.en.html
There is no reason with the size of storage now that they couldn't put all the classic games in that box.
Brent Sipper licensing costs money
It's great value, the cost of a pi, controller and a case. Not to mention it will look no where near as good. Saying that you could play more than just nes and more than 30 games.
I'm a noob to the PI universe...can you reply in more detail or direct message me? I am a retro junkie and have a modded wii, modded dreamcast, modded OUYA, and others... but have not touched the PI waters but everyone is sayin it's the best new economical way to retrogame and the capability to do other things... links to sites abt what to do with PI would be great too for this noob!! THX in advance!
Andre Brown it's quite easy and there's loads of guides. I like to make stuff has a great one. It comes down to flashing an SD and putting it in the pie. That's it! To add games just put them on a thumb drive and they'll be on. The distro is called Retropie btw?
375gb? para que queres tanto si los juegos de nes pesan como mucho 100mg todos
There is already a 1TB PiDrive available.
Ha. Just admitted to copyright infringement on video. Doh. Guess no one really cares, but then everyone is all like "no, i cant show you how to get roms because I'll get in trouble."
Did She Say Maga Meaaan Instead Of Mega Man? I Cringed
Why did you comment three times?
Yes she did, had to double check to see if i wasn't hearing things
TekThing Because I Pointed Out 3 Different Things
Heinrich6745 Lol Man It Was Bad!!
you just called a little girl a jerk... you're going to hell!! haha
OMG People Really Think 30 Games Are Alot? TBH Honest The Only Games They Probably Are Gonna Play Is The Super Mario Bros & Donkey Kong
And zelda, and final fantasy, but I guess you missed that memo. :)
TekThing Lol
All you really need are 2 or 3 good games that you enjoy. Everything else will just be taking up space.
Ramon Santiago True But What I WAs Getting At Is The Fact That U Wanna Get Your Moneys Worth & For Those Who Have Played All 30 Games Before Should Be Happy However The Ones Thats Just Gettin One For Only A Few Games That Kinda Sucks
ASHTREFISHER Yes, that's true. Like they say, you have some options. You can buy what they're selling you or you can make your own, cheaper and with more games.
it's not worth it for anyone in the know about a Pi3 + 8bitdo
member?
There will be no classics available until after Dec 1st. Nintendo themselves said this the same day it came out. Stop calling stores and read Nintendo's conference notes. They will announce when there will be another shipment.
Hmm, another viewer tweeted us on Black Friday to say he snagged one, and confirmed retailers in Canada had them available last week as well.
pet snobs, Duck Hunt is a gun game and there's no light gun with this
Correct. Not to mention the original light gun only works with CRT's, not newer TV's due to lag issues. The Wii line did get a Duck Hunt game at one point. I'd like to see a light gun announced as an accessory and the possibility of adding duck hunt to the NES classic at a later date. - Shannon
they have duckhunt
it's called buying super mario bros/duckhunt for the nes
dumping the rom to your sd card using a retrode
and running fceugx on your modded wii.
hitechguy18
really? the game thought you were hitting the ducks?
The Wii U has Duck Hunt via virtual console and used the Wii Remote as a gun. Old light guns have a problem with non-CRT TVs. I don't know the technical details to get a redesigned light gun to work with a modern TV.
Nowhere you can buy it, is it 60 dollars... I've seen just about ALL websites where they sell the thing, and it's always above 100-150 dollars...
This is the original MSRP of the product, on the day it was released. Since it is sold out now, people take advantage of this and raise the price. Supply and demand. - Shannon
Number 5: it's officially licensed, so you're not doing anything illegal.
Game developers do.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Sure -- you're right, right?
where are ya'll finding these for $60
$80? thee like $200+ now!!! i could make 25 of them for that!!!
Nes classic is 60 retail there's a demand for it and you have individuals jacking up the price for a quick buck demand will decrease and they should be easier to find after xmas
Can't wait til it's reversed engineered to so we can add more memory and games. I'm not buying this and a classic edition 2 for more games.
also buy one because then developers get paid. pretty funny how people suggest stealing so casually.
Rafael Q. haha, right?
Rafael Q. emulation isnt stealing. the rights for the games have long gone. buying the nes mini gives no money to the original developers of the games and just gives money to modern nintendo and capcon and konamj
there's a reason they call us the Nintendo generation!
The NES Mini Controller Does Not Work With The Wii U
Yes, it does:; www.polygon.com/2016/7/14/12189508/mini-nes-classic-controller
It plugs into the Wii Remote with works with the Wii U.
TekThing What I Meant Was It Didn't Work With None Of The Wii U Games Like The Classic Controller Does I Tried A Few Games Like Smash Bros
tbb033 It Doesn't Support The Wii U Games Tho Like The Classic Controller Does Like Smash Bros
obviously because it doesnt have an analog stick or anything else you might need to play those gamees;
Duck Hunt will never work with a modern TV, they don't have the capability to run a light gun...
AAArgh my DOT wake word is ECHO!!!!!!!!
just buy them online for only $37 including shipping.
If it takes you guys "hours" to download 100 ROMS, you need to step up your skills
50 gigs.
what ever happened to DIY trying
Wheres my fucking poster? :( UK buyers get pwned
