"I'm gonna need an arborist to look through some family photos and determine the value of the trees you illegally cut down. You can expect to pay triple that amount"
OP's going for the long terms gain for this one, rather then drag karen to court and eventually the solar company they've made a secret deal with said company and dumped Karen with all the legal and financial fallout.
Yep . And there's a reason the solar company offered more money - They might have contracted the tree removal people and could be liable for each tree replacement to the original condition.
In my state, squatter's right only kick in after 20 years of continued residence. Honestly, the OP who ignored the property for years ran the risk of this very thing happening.
I was wondering how Karen was able to build an entire house w/o permits on someone else's land. If she bought property, why not use that instead? And no, OP is not the A-hole here. Karen obviously is. Merry Christmas my friend!
It was explained in the post that the property was in an unincorporated area, thus apparently building permits weren't needed. All was needed apparently was a permit for the sewage hookup.
You have a point here : why not build on her own land? I might have possible answer : because she can't! I have many guess on why she did it the stupid way. First, she might have bought a land where you just can't build a house that will stand (or too close to the road to the liking or can't build the septic on it anyway). In front of my dad house, the land has been on sale for 20 years or more now. Nobody buy it because it's unbuildable (swamp land). Or it could be too costly (like directly on rock, need dynamite and stuff). Second, she was probably thinking she could get more value by acquiring some land that way. If she could kept under the radar for long enought, she could try to claim right on the land for many years of usage (I don't remember the term for that). But, if I'm right, to be valid, the usage need to be known and approuve by the owner. It's not as simple as building on it and claiming the land 10 years later. Third: stupidity and cheap sake. Don't really need to explain this one !!! I most say, if his brother managed to build a house in 1 month, I'm kind of impress! He is a fast builder and not busy!!!
@nicolasjoly6948 given that she admitted that she was too cheap to pay for a survey. That's the answer. I believe that the term that you are looking for is adverse position. I believe that in most jurisdictions here in the USA, she'd also have to prove that she was paying the property tax as well as using it.
Give Karen 2 options. 1. Hand the house over to you. 2. Remove the house and rehabilitate the land back to the same before the vandalism. Either way she looses the house, but option 1 is by and far the cheaper option.
The first story, the chavette thought she could waltz in and claim squatters rights o a property she didn't own. Building the solar panel of her own greedy desire and believing nothing or no one could touch her. Her tearing up the cease and desist was also legally a serious mistake, since it was likely issued by the court. The destruction of any such legal documents at least here in the U.S. is a criminal act, and I suspect that it's also the same in most other countries. She destroyed herself really and truly though uttering the threat she uttered against the poster, in front of law enforcement. That's an arrest on the spot almost anywhere in the world. Also she only made it worse by threatening law enforcement, and it's a wonder she wasn't face down on the ground extremely fast, while quickly being handcuffed. Now she can't afford to pay back what was spent by the panel company, and for whatever damages she did to the poster's property. As far as the trees goes, the poster won't see them mature enough in their lifetime. As far as the chavette she should be serving the most if not all of what's left of her life in prison for her utterances.
Thought the same. Smart company. The land owner could have just hired another company, that would just wreck the new panels and send the bill for doing that to the Karen. That way they did get their panels back, and are allowed to build a small solar farm on a part of the land. Win-win for both.-
And this Ladies and Gentlethings is why Building Permits should be MANDATORY for ALL Construction, even Construction that isn't in an Incorporated County/Area... Permits do more than just make sure the Buildings are built Safely and won't kill or injure their occupants by falling down, burning or gassing everyone because of an improperly installed Appliance...Permits also go a VERY long way towards making sure the Buildings are erected on the proper Lot and not the Neighbour's Lot...
It's beyond me how it can be done without contacting and getting approval from the county architect, unless it is done way differently in the USA than in my country. Over here the will or land possession cannot be easily forged or faked, because you have a notarial office over here in Poland with double copy sitting at the county or/and city council.
NTA family land, family dreams and hopes. These are more important than near do well swindles. If she could have hidden the house 10 years or so she would have owned it.
You might want to have the land tested in the solar panel situation they're very toxic to the land even though they may have been there only a short time they still could have damaged the land environmentally.
Second story half the neighbors saying you are wrong? Sorry OP but half your neighbors are the common clay of the land, ya know, idiots? Ignore them, they are beyond stupid and completely in the wrong. Building on land not your own then shoving money under value is a common scam. Don't let her get away with it she's getting what she deserved.
Love the near-reference to Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles. "What did you expect? 'Welcome, sonny?' 'Make yourself at home?' 'Marry my daughter?' You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know . . . morons."
House building on non-owner's property : Great court decision! It's great to hear the court made the right legal decision for the property owner. I have heard of situations where the land owner have lost money or land for other's misuse of the law.
If somebody says they're going to be building something that's close to your property you might want to listen and find out exactly what their plans are not to be a nosy person but just to be able to make sure there's no interference between each other like property lines or utility lines, something like that.
For those people in the community of the 2nd story, who said that OP was being unreasonable should then give up parts of their land and see how they feel. Would love to see if they would take it laying down.
That TECHNICALLY would work in Poland, but under one major condition: no one, absolutely nobody, reported ownership to the land for 30 years (under illicit takeover rule as per Administration law).
People that think you are cruel for defending your property. You simply ask them to pay for it. They're perfectly happy backing somebody else to pay for their mistakes. But as soon as they have to pay for it they'll change tunes
So many stories where people just seem to think they can just claim a piece of land because they want to, life doesn't work like that! It doesn't matter what is done with the land, it isn't yours, you aren't paying taxes for it, you can't build there
The last story, the customer did the cashier dirty only to get the dirt back only it was on him, and he very much deserved it deserved. So I have no sympathy for the jerk. It's never smart to toss a receipt out until you get home. That way should you need it, you have it. I for one always want my receipt. That way I have proof of payment to show.
The second story, absolutely not the jerk. The chavette thought that she could do what she wanted to and disregard property lines and property ownership rights. As far as the locals who saw the poster as the jerk, no they are or were wrong, and were being the jerks. They most certainly wouldn't lay down and let someone do that to them. I also have my doubts as to those against the poster having lived in the area for any great length of time. The chavette and her fly by night chav of a brother should have faced tree law violations, and made pay for all trees removed to clear the land for the chavette to build on.
BS you have to have a certified electrician plumber in order to make sure the house is up the code as well as being able to be insured by insurance companies because some people won't insurance your house unless you've lived there for a year to make sure it won't burn down.
The second story the irony is that if anyone was paying attention. Is that Karen had admitted to the OP that she knew she was building on his property, because she was too cheap to get a survey herself. Now, she's on the hook for more than what a survey would have cost her. Also, I wonder if the brother doesn't realize that he could be charged with witness tampering. Und that by doing his sister this "favor" that he's opened himself und his construction company to be investigated. To the people on Karen's side. They are also the exact same people who would do the exact same thing.
Illegally on somebody else's property they can sell it to you add a million dollars a square foot or you can move your house and restore the property to the condition it was in prior to you destroying it
first story: "It belongs to whoever has been paying taxes on it. Have you been? Because if not, that's tax evasion and I've got a HUGE check coming my way for paying on land I, allegedly, no longer own. But if it is mine because you haven't been evading paying tax, then you've illegally built on my land. So, which is it, Karen? Are you illegally building and occupying, or are you illegally evading tax?"
Who was the squatter? Did this trick not have a roof to apply the panels there? Check everything before doing anything. That's wasn't negligence she just didn't care. I would have charged her rent every month. Fine if you want to use the house you build on my land give me the amount of the house and the for the horrific plumbing for your brother.
Karen did this purposely intently she needed to be punished because this is not something that should be allowed. Not the a-hole for that, they are the people that think they can just get away with whatever they do is saying that I'll just pay for my mistakes later kind of BS. Also there's a thing called house movers they can lift the house up and move it on to on her land without destroying it.
Story 2. I bet all the people telling the op to let her have the land would probably would be saying something different if it was their land she tried to steal.
For the second story. If she came back and paid you $100,000 for this small part of land I'm sure you would have changed your tune very quickly. But I'm guessing she never came back and offered you the value of the land that already had a house built on it. Because it had a house it was a lot more valuable. My guess is that she lowballed the valuation of the property.
OP in story one should've contacted a real property attorney and tree attorney. He really dropped the ball. Also, I can only assume Karen was talking about adverse possession. All parties are idiots in story 1, should always consult attorneys smh
story 1 - just goes to show when people claim they know people, and try to scare you away instead of actually doing something, it means they know they are the ones who wouldnt win in court story 2 NTA the land belongs to OP karen didnt tell him where she was building, didnt get a survey, and didnt bother asking to buy the land BEFORE building the house, OP isnt ruining karen, she ruined herself, se did this to herself, anyone saying OP is TA is stupid
In the first story doesn't sound like she got anything bad. She destroyed your property she cut down thousands of dollars worth of trees. I mean every tree is worth $100 $200. When you cutting down hundreds of trees that adds up
If you own land and you're not doing anything with it you need to make it look like at least it's being taken care of like as far as like grasping mode or putting like a fence or some form of advertisement like billboards around the entire perimeter that way they can't build anything there kind of a situation. If it's agriculturally zoned you could have somebody lease out the place to graze for their horses or cattle whatever.
OP absolutely NTA for taking Karen to court. Karen and her brother willfully and knowingly played stupid games and deserve every stupid consequential prize for those games. Also, if Karen had been allowed to stay under any circumstances, you can bet your behind that would not have been the last problem OP faced with her. Karen would be exhibiting future bad behaviors such as stealing OP's electricity or water, making further illegal additions to the house, or doing things like dumping trash on the land or using OP's bins instead of her own.
Well, Karen not only fasing fines there she probably get jail time for a few years, and she will loose all she owns for compensation to op and lawsuits from the solar panel company.
Nope I wouldn't afford her any accommodations I would just take possession of the house and then rent it out and I would sue her for the destruction to your property the loss of the value of the trees etc and make her pay to bring the septic up to the code
not only that but they had a monthly inspection of land but januari and may are 2 months apart so where is the Februari? they should have seen it long before the house was done
No she did it knowing it was not her property along with her brother and u should sue both of them so the verdict is in and they are the AHOLES not ur family
Merry Christmas everyone
TY Merry Christmas to you too and everyone else.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your gf and cats! 🎄🎅🎄
I hope ye had a happy Crimbo and have a merry but not too merry (tipsy) Hogmanay (New years Eve).
Merry Christmas to you all too!!hope you all had an amazing time!!!
Illegally build on your land and then want to buy the land from you? Tell them your firm asking price for the land is 8 million dollars.
20 mill
Pricey! 🤣
@@seabass819 8mil......per inch of land 🤣
"I'm gonna need an arborist to look through some family photos and determine the value of the trees you illegally cut down. You can expect to pay triple that amount"
If she cut down OPs trees, all I can say is TREE LAW!
Try 100 mil per square foot of land that’s fair
yeah OP really dropped the ball on getting money for the trees. would have been a fortune
Second story: They tried to steal the property, also, the fact that the brother "met" OP to discuss could also be interpreted as witness intimidation.
And anyone trying to guilt OP is just fellow Karen's with similarly entitled mindsets
In my state, squatter's right only kick in after 20 years of continued residence. Honestly, the OP who ignored the property for years ran the risk of this very thing happening.
This is an ancestral property. Don't sell and throw the book at her and her brother!
Merry Christmas everyone!🎁🎄Hope you all are having a great day!
Merry Christmas GString, have a great Holiday,,

Forgot about the septic issue.
Option 1, add in, upgrade the septic system to above the county standards.
Cutting down an old growth forest to set up a solar farm? That sure makes ecological sense.
It happens often

Thumbs up for Ripe and the channel...
Merry Christmas...
7:28 the company was super smart. They got their equipment back without a scratch and paid off any legal actions.
Thought the same. Smart company. The land owner could have just hired another company, that would just wreck the new panels and send the bill for doing that to the Karen.

Great stories, Ripe.

Merry Christmas Ripe/JB/Dexter & Disnii, thank you for the great stories today, keep up your amazing work & enjoy your Holiday,,😻😻😻😹😹😹⭐⭐⭐🥃🥃🥃🥃
Ones like the first story just baffles me why people would act that way.
Karen built a house on my land, wants to buy the land she built on? Sure 157 MILLION dollars and that portion is yours.
Nope that price per square foot of land lol
It's beyond me how it can be done without contacting and getting approval from the county architect, unless it is done way differently in the USA than in my country.

NTA: Her brother is trying to cover his ass. He could lose his company. As far as the "neighbors " on Karen's side they were sniwed by Karen.
Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁❄️
Next week new year

Disnii and Dexter are such beautiful and well taken care of cats.
Dedicated fulltime day sleepers!

S1: Sounds like Karen was attempting to do some version of adverse possession.
So did Karen in Story 2
The brother/builder should be sued too.

Karen sure saved a lot of money building that house 😅😂😅😂

Karen is a complete idiot. If you're sinking your /entire/ life savings into something, make sure it's done /right/!
For those people in the community of the 2nd story, who said that OP was being unreasonable should then give up parts of their land and see how they feel. Would love to see if they would take it laying down.

Merry Xmas fella.
Only Karens!!😮
So many stories where people just seem to think they can just claim a piece of land because they want to, life doesn't work like that! It doesn't matter what is done with the land, it isn't yours, you aren't paying taxes for it, you can't build there
🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 are for the great video.
Karen in Story 1: "I got friends!"
OP: "Do you think you're the only one who got friends?"
13:24 anyone thinking that they should “work something out”, except Karen, owe my 100 000$ USD. No IOU. Cash only.
PS by me, I mean ME, not the MC.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😎⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hi Ripe, Merry Christmas y'all!!!🎄
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😎🎅🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The second story makes me want to tell the Karen defenders, "So you'll let Karen build her house on your land then?"
BS you have to have a certified electrician plumber in order to make sure the house is up the code as well as being able to be insured by insurance companies because some people won't insurance your house unless you've lived there for a year to make sure it won't burn down.
Hope Karen was made to pay for all that lumber.
Are you illegally building and occupying, or are you illegally evading tax?"
she is lucky to not be sued for tree removal.... it would have made the 100,000 she laughed at looking like nothing when she owes likely millions
Oh it's an absolute felony over here in Poland. She would go to prison.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️DISNI & DEXTER⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These Karens aren't very smart.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
should have said that you would sell for 500mill per square foot she wants of the land or you can move the house and return it to its original state.
⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟 Merry Christmas!
Story 2: NTA, Karen had the house built selfishly.
OP in story one should've contacted a real property attorney and tree attorney. He really dropped the ball. Also, I can only assume Karen was talking about adverse possession. All parties are idiots in story 1, should always consult attorneys smh
story 1 - just goes to show when people claim they know people, and try to scare you away instead of actually doing something, it means they know they are the ones who wouldnt win in court
story 2 NTA the land belongs to OP karen didnt tell him where she was building, didnt get a survey, and didnt bother asking to buy the land BEFORE building the house, OP isnt ruining karen, she ruined herself, se did this to herself, anyone saying OP is TA is stupid
YOu have every right to remove the solar panels
Wait, did the house building Karen own an adjacent property?
Oh, I would have some fun with tree law
Karen would be exhibiting future bad behaviors such as stealing OP's electricity or water, making further illegal additions to the house, or doing things like dumping trash on the land or using OP's bins instead of her own.
a long term lease could be a money maker for you
S2: Can you say bulldozer?
Hi all 👋👋
story 2:
the people telling OP he should have "worked something out" should let Karen do to them what she did to OP and see how that goes
*pets Disney and Dexter* good kitties
Hmm, taking someone's land and using it for yourself? Sound familiar?
If this is true they (Karen) is so wrong I can't believe anyone could that stupid.
"I thought this might come up"
then you should have done something about it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Story 2 I'm confused. How was there an existing septic system on (what I assume is) virgin forest?
not only that but they had a monthly inspection of land but januari and may are 2 months apart so where is the Februari? they should have seen it long before the house was done
do not sell! lease!!
