Perfect just what I needed, you have a very calming presence and made it look fun and relaxing encouraging me to give it a try. Loved the results btw, cheers.
I've just stumbled across this eloquent , articulate . and so clearly spoken Steven Sabados :-) take a bow my good dude , you delivered the concise content I needed , and spared us all a lecture on branding. wish I could buy ya a beer, I'm going through a long playlist of diy screen making , and I'm leabingtowards the laser print method with a & b paper.
Thanks Steven, love your ideas, I feel less intimidated by the process after seeing you work here. much freer forms than messing with all the registration corners!
This is great - many thanks! As a beginner, looking to start some basic screen printing, this has been very helpful. I've read through most comments and I couldn't find the type of paper you use - is it especially for screen printing? If i tried this with a canvas would I end up with a grainy/dotted finish? Thanks again 👍
To solve your problem of only being able to set it down once: add strips of 1/8" soft rubber to the frame; it will raise the screen slightly off your work (the screen has enough flex) and the rubber will aid it not to move.
So many negative people in this comment section. This seems like a much more approachable way to approach screen printing compared to the emulsion method
why u see comments as negative...remember for everything is a ying and yang...no all of us can agree in everything or like everything if so the world will be so boring....u like pink i like white and so on.. respect other people's opinions as u will like to people respect your point of view...
While living quarantine.... I'm so glad I've found this video! I loved every single moment of it - I truly enjoy all the information that you shared during the steps! It was the FIRST video that I didn't fast forward!!! ✨🍃💚 You're so talented and I love your personality. P.S: I struggle on meditations as well...And that's okay!!! 😌☝🏼
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It is great to see another creative way to approach the process. Please disregard the negative comments some people have posted on here. It is great of you to take the time to share. You have inspired others to try something new. And to be less intimidated by the screenprinting process. Kudos for spreading positivity in a sometimes very negative world.🙂👍💕
Thank you so much! This looks so achieveable compared to looking at the sensitizer route. This may sound a silly question, but would it work on tshirts?
He's so cute. I have no idea what he was talking about LOL. I couldn't take my eyes off his arms, his hair and his handsome voice. He has really nice eyes too.
I really want to start my own business online by doing all kinds of painting especially the pop art with retro paint. But I gotta save some money if Im going to invest in my business. This video is really going to help in the near future for screen printing.
You can use canvas frames and fabric from Jo Anna and staple it together so that could cost $20 screen filler or Mod Podge is about $8 then marker and paint cost. Pretty cheep.
She means something you add to acrylic paint to change the properties of it (matte medium, gel medium, sculpting medium). They make a specific screen printing medium but it costs as much as any silkscreen ink.
I would attach the roll of paper at the end of the table, just like in the doctor's office. .i also added an edge on the table so the frame has something to rest against
I took a screen printing class for fun in college. This is soo not the process I learned. Seems much simpler. We did use acrylic paint back then, too. It makes me feel so old to realize how long ago that actually was.
The ink is acrylic based, so it usually takes a very short time to dry, just a few minutes. You can see it's dry because the surface texture changes (it becomes more matte and loses the wet shine).
It depends on how thick it ends up going on and the material you are applying it to, but usually only a few minutes. I had a thick shirt take about 10 minutes a few times but most only take maybe 5.
sadly no not unless you clean out a section of the design. there is a blue fluid called drawing fluid that is supposed to be used before the screen filler.
Zach T you could use a closet as a dark room and u dont need a suction exposure unit, u could use a 500 watt lamp ($15) and a piece of glass to keep contact ($20)
Just for you info, the screen are not silk anymore and haven't been for years. The materials used for the screens are polyester. So this is a screen printing process, not silk. but anyway have fun.
Synthetic mesh is most common but he easily could have stretched his own with actual silk. The term silk screen has risen above material and into process but if you want to be technical it is serigraphy.
This is a great video! I love all the alternatives to using photo emulsion (Especially the masking tape method!)!
the most straight forward video i have yet to find! thank you so much!
I loved everything about this! Learned so much watching this video and loved the end result, those colors are awesome. Thanks!
You are an excellent teacher and are inspiring Thankyou
Wow it is good. I just saw this screen printing become an extraordinary work of art.
Loved every second of this!
This is amazing ❤
Well done. I love the simplicity of the process especially if you're just getting into this.
Thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you so much this is the best video on screen printing that I've seen so far 👏👏👏👏
Very thorough, and I like your style. Thanks for the recap since my class in college.

any store you might recommend to pick the rubber strips from, this is an excellent tip!
@@MrBlizzetta Home Depot has adhesive backed rubber or weather stripping.
if you tape a couple of quarters to the frame in all four corners, you can gain some off contact that way too!
@@cjbcarr1 Sure...but who can afford that?
@@ZacVaper the struggle is real my friend
Im new to screen printing and this video really helped me a lot. Thank you so much
I love this idea. You just helped me look at shirt making so different.
Awesome!!!
The last print is the best.
Thanks a lot for sharing.
So many negative people in this comment section. This seems like a much more approachable way to approach screen printing compared to the emulsion method
It is definitely the more accessible.... but definitely not easier

Thank you for this. I was just interested in how it was done and this made it really easy to understand. I'm not an "art" person and I understood.
Super! Can't wait to try this, thank you.
Great designs and information ❤😊
Thank you
Genius....screen filler for us screen printers at home...you're so smooth... 😍😎💪👊
a beauty!!! Love the entire process. ...i did the screen printing at the University and was one of my most loveeeddd classes ever!!

Pretty cool video. I liked the final art too !
Good deco / creativity work man, cool 😄😄
Oh man this was amazing and inspiring for me
Thank you so much! This looks so achieveable compared to looking at the sensitizer route. This may sound a silly question, but would it work on tshirts?
It should, but not sure if you need different paint
Yes but you need to get fabric ink, i use speedball but you can use whatever brand you want
Amazing educational video!! His voice reminds me of a 90s tv talk show 😂
AMAZING ¡¡¡ I JUST LEARN TOO MUCH THIS DAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH ¡¡
You're welcome Leo :)
great video. Thank you.
He's so cute. I have no idea what he was talking about LOL. I couldn't take my eyes off his arms, his hair and his handsome voice. He has really nice eyes too.
I love it !
This is creative way to play with screen printing
thanks i have learned a lot from this

Can you use gesso for block out?
Muito bom!

Steven sabados is my hero
For the silk screen, staple old sheer fabric to an old pic frame! Works great!
What kid of fat tape is he using.
Amazing!!!!!
May I know where you get the wood frame? I saw got the rubber stick on the silk, it’s very easy and recycle to use
Can you tell us about how much all the supplies will cost/ and if we could find most of the supplies at craft stores?
You can use canvas frames and fabric from Jo Anna and staple it together so that could cost $20 screen filler or Mod Podge is about $8 then marker and paint cost. Pretty cheep.
Thank you. Can I use the same method for fabric?
Great man!! tks for share...
You could use acrylic when you screen print, you just have to put medium in it so that it doesn't dry that fast.
Valentina Oliverio what do you mean medium?
Dear I am master of tshirts printing +91 9054353556
She means something you add to acrylic paint to change the properties of it (matte medium, gel medium, sculpting medium). They make a specific screen printing medium but it costs as much as any silkscreen ink.
woooooooow it worked
I’ve been screens printing for 35 years.... direct emulsion is definitely best.... spend the money on having a screen made professionally!
You can use artists acrylic paint, you just need to mix it with printing gel.
I would attach the roll of paper at the end of the table, just like in the doctor's office. .i also added an edge on the table so the frame has something to rest against
How do you clean the screen filler?
Maybe you answered this already, but what brand of screen filler are you using??
what kind of paper did u use?
Hello sir, would you please tell me the mixing ratio of powder sesitizer with hot water and the amount of liquid senitizer with emulsion?
I took a screen printing class for fun in college. This is soo not the process I learned. Seems much simpler. We did use acrylic paint back then, too. It makes me feel so old to realize how long ago that actually was.
Yeah you probably used photo emulsion and you are right acrylic dose work.
Hi Steve, you have now Got a massive fan in Denmark, any of the fishprints for sale? Love from Lisbeth
can you reuse screens? if so, how do you get the old ink off?
wash the ink with water immediately after printing, then the screen blocker can be removed with a special screen recover product.
How long do you have to let the ink dry before applying a new screen?
The ink is acrylic based, so it usually takes a very short time to dry, just a few minutes. You can see it's dry because the surface texture changes (it becomes more matte and loses the wet shine).
It depends on how thick it ends up going on and the material you are applying it to, but usually only a few minutes. I had a thick shirt take about 10 minutes a few times but most only take maybe 5.
The line about not being too precious hit me hard. Huge problem I have with making my work available or making a product for sale.
Can you change the design in the screen if you already drew on it with marker and outlined it with the screen filler ?
sadly no not unless you clean out a section of the design. there is a blue fluid called drawing fluid that is supposed to be used before the screen filler.
Yeah wash it out with screen filler remover/screen cleaner. A power washer will help but a hose will work.
Nice job! What kind of paper did you use there?
Does the screen get clogged over time? Do you clean it?
Sorry you said you clean it, how do you clean it?
thank you!
could save ten minutes using that cut out as a stencil to paint the screen filler over
faster with emulsion sensitive light paint
The only downside is that then you need a darkroom and a suction exposure unit.
Zach T you could use a closet as a dark room and u dont need a suction exposure unit, u could use a 500 watt lamp ($15) and a piece of glass to keep contact ($20)
And to go even more diy/cheaper using the sun to expose your screen in a couple of seconds is possible. Not ideal but free.
So...what is your anti-aging secret though?
Nice job.
Can you print this on a t-shirt 👕 🤔??
i'd like to know to, have you figured it out yet?
You can, just make sure you are using fabric ink, then heat cure it with a heat gun otherwise it will wash out.
That's exactly but let add a provision of screen clamp than merely hold with hands , better
I'm just trying to print a simple document...
Whats the screen filler called ?!😂
The screen is not made of silk since a long time actually.. this is polyester (PET). I'm a French screen printer.
Just for you info, the screen are not silk anymore and haven't been for years. The materials used for the screens are polyester. So this is a screen printing process, not silk. but anyway have fun.
Primer Red thank you for letting me know. Now I might try this.
Synthetic mesh is most common but he easily could have stretched his own with actual silk. The term silk screen has risen above material and into process but if you want to be technical it is serigraphy.
I
😁🙏🏽😘
Looks like someone didn't have a teacher griping at them for wasting ink.
This method not for High production, are waste of money. Also generate scrap material
The noise of him swiping the screen makes me want to scream
it's ink not paint!
Don’t try this waste of time
Edit your videos, so we don't have to sit through every stroke.

Dude, you do not have to fill every second with verbage. It's okay to be quiet
cheap and lame
this honestly makes me cringe.
