Some one came over to the house and wanted to know how to burn the image into a silkscreen. I go over each step so you can learn easily how it is done .
for more info www.SilkscreenN...
I’ve watched a lot of videos on how to do this just to make sure that everyone is doing it similarly. This is the most “cut and dry”, “black and white”, simple and detailed demonstration on how to do it. Everyone else is so worried about the video editing process that it just fucks with the flow. Great training video. It’s like being there in person for hands on training. Thank you for the clarity.
And all those stupid intro's. Who cares about that, get on to the video.. lol
stupid ??? LOL I like them that is my creative side !
Goes to show ye don't need high production values to create an informative and useful video. This was super helpful and clear, off to look up vellum and toner aid. Thanks Bob :)
I came to this video because these young bucks are all over the place with trying to explain simple info. Bob got right to the point and was very helpful! Thanks Bob!!
Excellent tutorial. I have been learning screenprinting for 1 week. purchased a ali framed screen, used projector film on a hp deskjet A4 printer, took ages to dry but put under lamp for 10 min. 400watt halogen burned image in 4 minutes. only used thin glass but got good results. made all my own press/exposure unit thanks to King Bob.
INNOVATIVE PLANET well his system is not the correct way you will thank me later.
explain this statement tho. Whose system are you referring to? and who or what is Innovative planet

Your videos are very detailed .Thank you for sharing
Been trying to start screenprinting a few days ago I bought emulsion printed the transfer sheets made a 500w exposure unit built screens n started to burn images on them but everytime i tried to wash them out.. they kept kicking my ass.. This video really helped me out I'm now printing like a pro. Thanks Uncle Bob
Sick dude, did you use the 500w UV light and did 3 mins and used the same distance?
You are welcome
Thanks for the extremely helpful video, Bob! I found a lot of different types of vellum paper; can you tell me what kind? For example, I found a JAM Translucent Clear transparency paper. Is that what I want?
Thanks so much Bob for sharing your skill & knowledge. Really appreciate your time & effort & generosity. Best wishes. 😊
you are welcome :)
where did you get the uv light from?
Thanks Bob, I like how you explain things... old school but very effective!
You are an excellent teacher of this, thank you for the detailed notes!
You're very welcome!
I like you simple and great way of explaining things! Thank you Bob! I hope you are well and still kicking...
Thank you and yes still kicking :)
Thank you bro!
Very succinct and helpful demo, I feel like a pro just watching this!
why haven't you done more videos.
Hope everything is well with you
I am 71 years old and I work and play 10 hours a day and doing great !!! I love being an entrepreneur .. I need to find time to do more videos , I have been so busy with other projects though . the next video will either be a tiny home or solar hot water tank which ever comes first :)
Great video, easy to understand. Thank you.
Bob knows his shit.
An economical strait to the point video. Thanks.
Thanks !
wow this is amazing keep it up ❤️ greetings from philippines
Great video. I've used vellum for stippling with a rapidograph pen, but never thought about using it instead of clear cellophane for silkscreening. Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the new tips. Peace.
Hi Bob... I have been doing this for 20 plus yrs. I was amazed watching your video, I've always done this in the dark, but you were in a lighted room with daylight and all... I've always taken between 5 1/2-7 minutes to burn the image onto the screen, and then using a pressure washer and it usually takes about 5 minutes of blowing it out. I'm amazed how fast and easy it blew out and you were only using a hose with a nozzle it looked like!!!!!!!! Does it have to be the Emulsion you were using to make this easier? When reusing a screen, do you use degreaser? Thank you!
I’m not as experienced as you but from what I know, by letting it soak with water for a few minutes before really trying to wash it out, it makes it much easier to wash out. He sprayed his with water and waited 5 min before washing out
Photo emulsion is light sensitive when dry. You can safely work with some light. Even when dry, to expose a screen under a normal household light would take hours. I leave a door to a room open enough for me to see so there is no direct light but sufficient light to see by. Even is a screen is dry, to expose one in your house with household light and daylight would take hours. 2 things are relevant to washing a screen out. The longer a screen has been drying or stored, the longer it takes to wash them. Longer exposure times also make them more difficult to wash out. Wet both sides, wait 30 sec - 60 sec and they'll wash right out. No pressure washer is required.
Thanks Bob! You're the man!
Hi ! I liked your video very much you explained every thing so good you are a great teacher :)
thank you so much for sharing your knoledge with us .
where can I get TONER AIDE SPRAY? what local store or is there anything else that is recommended for this spray? HELP?
any silk screen supply vendor
Where can I buy the emulsion that you are using?
yes
i love your series Bob!!!! youre giving me all the answers to questions I didn't know to ask. thank you
thanks !
Thank you so much for this! I did it several times but it's not coming out right. Now I know the problem. I just left it for just 30 minutes and it was a success. I thought, the ink is the problem but no... it was the time length I was leaving it under the light.
Glad it helped!
Great demostration, Thank you so much!
Is emolsion light sensitive or uv sensitive. Because my lightening takes me a minimum of 20 minutes. Maybe my light hasn‘t enough uv light.
it is uv sensitive ,if you are working under flourecent light or any UV lighting this will work agaisnt you . Use a 500 watt halogen light to expose the screen and it should work in 2 to 3 minutes if not there is something wrong
What type of vellum paper should I buy light weight heavy ect. Thank you in advance
buy from a silk screen supply shop not an art store or staples and you will get the right stuff
Thank you so much for this! I have this exact emulsion and almost gave you because it was not working but I’m going to keep trying I think my coats are too thick
call me anytime i can walk you through it ok 919 525 7911 text before you call
Thank you for your help and instructions! Excellent video :)
Cool, amazing, punk rock screenprinting!!!!!
Great video!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
My pleasure!
It is very helpful. Thank you very much for your video
You are so good at all of it. Thank you for your vids! Wish you the bests!
Thank you! You too!
Very cool! :) I hope to try this, thank you for making this video.
Bob using the small scoop coater looks like such a pain in the ass compared to just using lets say a 14inch one.....and you just a smoother coat of emulsion great video though :)
Thank you for this video Bob!
I loved each step thanks
Hi, is it possible to make silkscreen for black and white photo with halftones? This is first question, second question is- when I am trying to wash screen after exposion ,emulsion is coming off the screen.Does it means that screen under exposed? Thank you!
you can do half tones for black and white photos just get the right mesh count to handle the halftone you are using . If emulsion is coming off where it shouldn't it is under exposed
@@BobMongiello Question was three years ago.Anyway thanks a lot for reply.Today I am good in screenprinting already)))
@@Lobzik67 You are welcome
I burned an image for 12.5 minutes with a 500 watt halogen bulb. The design came out but it was pretty tough. The edges of the design weren't SUPER clean but pretty good. I'm wondering if I exposed it too long. I had the light above it about 20 inches. Do you think I might have over exposed it? Is it supposed to wash with the lines very crisp or is there supposed to a little gunk that's stuck?
Prob a bit late but that's normal, just gotta use a soft toothbrush to rub away the inconsistencies
Question why do they say it takes 4hrs to dry or even a day I need to do some fast printing for a event at 6pm is it possible to burn a screen and start at 9am to 11am
you can put a fan on it and dry it in less than 30 minutes if you want .place it is a dark room like a closet .
Give me the name of the product please
Great video sir. Very informative and I've learned a lot from this simple tutorial. Question. I have an inkjet printer instead of a laser. Will that toner aid spray help if I print on vellum paper while using an inkjet? Sorry for my noobness. This is all new to me. Thank you for your time.
no toner aid is for laser only
So the emulsion that you used doesn’t require a dark room. What is the brand of that emulsion? And as long as I don’t do any of the steps you did under the sun light it is ok?
F
yes stay out of direct sunlight and you are fine i get my emulsion from Sati America just ask for the pink emulsion
@@BobMongiello thanks so much.
I have another question and need some help!
I bought the same Textil PV emulsion. I am using the same 500 watt Halogen light. I exposed it for 3 minutes. (when I removed the image it was partially stuck to the screen) Used a spray bottle to wet it and left it alone for 5 minutes and then sprayed again and used the pressure washer to wash out the screen. Most of the image came out almost immediately, but my image blew out and the emulsion peeled up around the image.
The screen felt dry before burning my image, but is it possible it just wasn't done drying? I dried it for about 45 minutes in front of a fan. Or could it possibly be because the Halogen light was too close?
Any help would be appreciated!
so 3 years later I saw your post sorry and i am sure hopefully you figured it out I usually have people call me and talk you through it so for anyone new to this and having problems just call 919 525 7911
Great work ,great video!
Glad you liked it!
Answered a lot of my questions thank you 🙏🏼🔥
Thank you, sir,
that was very good!
"Do NOT let this dry in the applicator, you'll never get it out"
Well I wonder how we would ever recycle our screens?? :P Just kidding.
Hey Bob! What percent vellum are you using?
I did not know they had a percentage I just buy from a silkscreen supply place they know the right one
Excellent, and simple video, thank you.
Thank you
Is the SAATI Textiles PV (pink emulsion) different to the ink you would use to print the image? Thank you
Sure it is, That PV it's used only for screen making. And ink is for actual printing on your textiles.
Great, thank you!
hey bob , i ask you a question, what kind of paper that your are going to use in printing an image to be burn?
it is called velum and i buy it from a silkscreen supply place they know the right kind ok
Hey bob!
What is the name of the emulsion and paint that you use? I know you said it was like a liquid plastic?
Hayley Jones The Ink used mostly for printing is called... "Plastisol Ink"..
Yes, Plastisol, learn as much as you can before starting, what to clean your screens with etc. Been researching for almost 5 months now, lol and still haven't burned a screen yet haha.
How far away is your light to the screen? Thanks for the video!
12 inches
Really enjoyed your video! I was wondering - dude you remove the UV filter from your halogen lamp before you used it to burn any screens? I am wondering if it quickens the process. Thanks!
thelovelylydz no uv filer on that light.
That was great, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
If a few bits around the text come off, shiuld i let it dry longer or expose longer?
make sure your film positive is crisp around the edges not ruff and broken up and make sure it is very black so no light goes through . Then make sure the emulsion is a thin coat and then have your light 12" away all these points add up to a perfect wash out .at 2 and 1/2 minutes
When you open it do you need to keep it stored in a cool dark place afterwards?
when washed out and ready to dry you can speed it up in the sun but storing it well inside is best
Bob you are the man
Hi! What are you using to apply the emulsion? Bought or made? Best suggestions if you made it?
Kara Thorndike bought, called a “scoop coated” or “emulsion coater”
you are very proficient thanks for all your insight
Love your video!
I am getting ready to dabble in screen printing as a hobby and have been watching many videos on screenprinting.
Your video is very informative, thankyou for uploading it !😊
How far up did you hang the lamp above the velium?
I am guessing 12 to 14 inches? Where did you purchase your velium?
sorry for the late reply , 12" yes and 500 watt light any screen print supply place has velum don't go to staples or anything like that .
good stuff sir.
wow, awesome information ! thank you !
hey bob. i have one quick question about the emulsion. do i've to put a bit of water into the sensitizer before i can mix it with the color emulsion?
azadd halim yes... depending on the emulsion... most come with the big bucket, and a small little bottle which is mixed with water.. use bottled water because tap water could have iron in it.. which will ruin it..
sorry i am just reading this 4 years later but i will answer anyway because someone new may be reading it . BUY pre mixed emulsion it last longer than the stuff you have to mix ok everyone sells a pre mixed emulsion I buy mine from Sati Americas
@@BobMongiello oh yeah! I come from the future! Nice information.
@@Producti0nhyper LOL :)
Really good vid. Thanks
Great Video. Thanks for this!
Glad it was helpful!
I’m trying to screen print ... I see the image but it is not washing out the image did I do something wrong
call me i'll talk you through it ok 919 525 7911
What is the ratio of the glue coating solution and the sensitizer?
I do not know what you are describing ?
hey Bob i have a question.after i exposed the screen i wet it right after,i waited 5 minutes wet it again,i put the screen in the shower wet it down and the emulsion peeled off.i used the diazo 2 part emulsion.any suggestions?
I know it's 4 years and you have probably figured this out but let ,e say this now for anyone new just call me and i will walk you through what you are doing and find out the problem . 919 525 7911
now does that 500W "lamp" get hot for in house burning
you only have it on for 3 mintues !!!
Really, really thank you!
how far is the lamp to the screen 16 inches?
12 inches
Is tha fabic or a type of screen?
silkscreen is made of nylon these screens can be bought cheaper than trying to make it yourself
would inkjet also work great with velum?
Yes. When using ink jet, print on high quality. Also be sure the ink is fully dry before using it.
this guy is a DON
haha thanks :)
OK the video shows cool tips of the trade. But we can help to notice about DARK ROOM. emulsion is sensitive to light, but here he is doing in open windows..What ever happened to the dark room and yellow or red safety light techniques.? lots of questions few answers so far
The screen print emulsion isn't nearly as sensitive as something like camera film. ambient light doesn't affect it over a short period of time, it requires UV light to activate the chemistry.
which is why he only needed to expose it for 3 minutes, he left the emulsifier in that dark cabinet to dry which is the important part
@@dabradguy thank you for saying so.☺️
Thank's Sir, very expensive lesson.
bout to follow this tomorrow.
Thickness and Size of the glass is ?
15 x15 1/4 inch thick sanded edges
What is the purpose of spray sir?
to hold the shirt down in place so it does not come up when you lift the screen off
thanks so much for the video! I really appreciate it!
Glad it was helpful!
Good VideBob. Thanks
Brilliant. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Nice.
Like the way you show us nubs
ah hi? i just wanted to ask if i can possibly burn an image on silk screen by just using a clean white bond paper (with design) and ,rather than any transparency paper? thanks.
angelica dinero theoretically, you can even use thin tracing paper.. but it really Cuts down on Quality.. i would stick to Transparencies or somethin along those lines
velum is the preferred medium for burning an image it is like tracing paper ( As KaBGRaFx said ) it is best with a laser printer you are welcome to call and ask questions , i do not always see these notices right away to answer them.
amazing thank you so much
You're very welcome!
I like this guy
I like you too !
i thought if u put emulsion, u should be in a dark area?pls. enlighten me.sorry i'm a newbie.
Psychromatic Apparel some people just don’t give a fuck lol. But yeah it’s recommended to do in a light safe environment. I bought a bug light bulb for like 5 bucks at Home Depot for my setup.
I am in a room where the sun is not directly shinning in and it works fine but you can use a non antra violet light like an incandescent light ( which they don't sell anymore ) or something like that just do not have a fluorescent light on
Fantastic tutorial thank you
You're very welcome!
I tried this without glass and it didn't work.
I am not sure what you tried but I kinda show it does on the video .
He’s the best
What happened if you burn the screen to long ?
it will not wash out most screens take about 2 and 1/2 minutes to burn
Can this be done with an ink jet printer?
Yes but you would need Waterproof Inkjet Transparency Film.
How r u doing old man😊
fantastic!
Thank you
Great video ❤🎉😂
Thank you :)
this dude got more clout than everyone i know
and PIZZA !!
