I was born July 4 1973, was an only son, my mom passed away July 15 1974. I have lived my life by this song like they wrote this from her to me, even though I don't remember her or her voice I picture her saying this to me through them. Seen Shinedown do it live 7 times and I broke down in tears every time.
This is a masterpiece. Not many songs earn masterpiece status but this one surely does. It's perfection from top to bottom. Every instrument played flawlessly, the singer is on point and every person on the planet can connect personally with the lyrics/meaning of the song.
Phenomenal Band. Southern Rock at its best. Many great songs ! Like an upbeat daddy “ Call Me the Breeze” Free Bird is the epic rock anthem with so many guitar riffs starts as a Ballad and erupts into a a Masterpiece. I’m 73 and the music in the 60’s - 70’s were so varied and Classic. Give CCR a try. Born on the Bayou, You put a Spell on Me, Heard it Thruogh the Grapevine…they had 7 #1 hits in 2 years.
First time I’m checking your channel out. I really appreciate this. I can not even sing along with this song without breaking down and it’s my favorite song by LS. It was played at my older cousins funeral. One of the most genuine, caring people you would ever meet, died at 23. I watched his daddy stand over his casket, shirt soaking wet from tears, looking at his only son. His dad told him the same thing but he lived a little too fast. I was a 17 year old kid then. I’m 40 now and have taken this song to heart. I live for my family. I enjoy every moment with them. Tell your people that you love them everyday.
I grew up with this song. Had my first child (a son) when I was 17. I used to sing this song to him all the time. He will be 40 this year and we still have a special bond over this song.
This band is legendary. They offered purity within their pieces & performances. Their live version of Free Bird will allow for you to see them in person. Keep enjoying.
I was a teenager verging on adulthood when this song came out, and this song helped me through some complicated life changes......major changes happening in the world all around and at the end of the day this song helped me realize I could handle it!
When you do "free bird" it must be the LIVE VERSION... it's very symbolic being most band members died in a bird just a couple months after the live performance
I've been singing this to my boy since the day we brought him home .. no matter where that 30 yr old kid is the minute he hears this playing , I get a text or a phone call that says "you ok? Luvya" I watched a few of your videos ... this one has to be my favorite reactions of yours, made me smile.
WOW, slow down, let's not forget about the likes of LED ZEPPELIN, QUEEN, PINK FLOYD ,BOSTON, the ROLLING STONES, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS, but i would say they're the best southern rock band, well between them & THE ALLMAN BROTHERS.
@@Tuesdays_Gone hey brother just giving you a hard time, Skynyrd, is in my top 5 all time and I have "on the hunt" on my play list so I hear them at least once a day." you wanna ride in my big black car baby, you want go uptown " hey did you lose it when Sebs said he never heard of them or even said their name before, get the fu*k out of here. hey thanks for responding, have a great day.
Welcome to Southern Rock!!! They are soooooo good! I dedicated this song to my first son before I was even pregnant. Last year, at the age of 42, he got married. I walked him down the isle. He asked his step dad to be his best man and, he and I danced together to this song at his reception! I told him he found a good woman and found love. And, that I was so proud of him for being a simple man!! Thank you for reacting to this super special song!
Boy does that take me back. Your reaction was a year ago so you won't see this but I'm glad you reviewed this one. And consider the gap between the generations then; it was huge. For this band to put this out as a wise parent advising their child. Mind blowing really.
My 1st son's ring tone when I call him. He was a fussy baby, so I would sing this to him. Yrs later, he was in the garage and I walked out it was on the radio and he was singing, stopping dead in my tracks, and I watched.🥺 When he saw me, he smiled. 😊💗
Such a great song, I remember hearing it on the radio at work in the early 2000's and actually listening to the lyrics. I had heard it a number of times, but when I actually listened to the words it hit so much deeper.
The Knebworth show earlier in the tour was awesome also. Alan,Steve and I believe Gary were out on the tounge, for The Stones set,and Ronnie eventually came out and reeled them in. They were told to not go out on the tounge.
Other songs by them you should check out: 1.) Free Bird (you’ve heard it, even if the name doesn’t ring a bell). 2.) That Smell (good story behind the song, also a bit underrated compared to other hits by them) 3.) The Ballad of Curtis Loew 4.) Tuesday’s Gone 5.) The Needle and The Spoon 6.) Gimme Three Steps
I grew up with this band. This was one of the best written lyrics out there. Funny thing, this is more true today than when it was first released! Simple IS better. Hear me.
It's cool to hear you say that about your Dad as I tried to impart this to my son as a single parent. Some of it seems to have worked as he is one of the best humans I've had the pleasure to know.
I recently discovered you and have been going through your video reactions. This song happens to be one of my favorite. I think that all parents should sit down with their children at some point and listen to the song with him. Absolutely love it.
We grew up with images of war and the hippies but the teenagers of the 1970’s we loved music. We didn’t riot we rode around and listened to music. I listened to music when I was in the 5th grade. This was such a great band. I'm so happy I got to see them before the plane crash that killed Ronnie Van Zant and some of the band. I just visited their memorial in Magnolia, Mississippi, a few months ago. It's amazing!!!
I don't mean to correct You but the first line is My Momma Told Me. Not the Father. They were the Best Southern Rock Band in the Day. They can never be replaced.
I absolutely love this song and always have. I introduced my son❤to this song a few years before he passed away at 22, may he rest at peace. He appreciated good bands with a good message that flows right through the soul.

The band was named for their gym teacher his name was Leonard skinner and he didn't like all their long hair and tried to expell Gary for it but he wasn't about to cut his hair
They don’t make music like this anymore This is one of the best bands that has ever played music How many bands do you know that every song they ever sang was a good song. I don’t know of another band that anyone can say this about To me this is the best rock band that has ever played music You can make a list of songs from this band and close your eyes and put your finger on one and you will be able to relate to it in some way The more you listen to this band the more you will want to hear My favorite band of any rock band
Whole album 🔥 saw them live before plane crash at Oakland Coliseum, but bought album and cassette tape when it 1st came out❤ my favorite simple man, Tuesday gone with the wind.. my son was about 3 he could sing gimme me three steps🤣😂❤
Gotta do Curtis Loew! ♥️🎶 Glorious Southern Rock!! Also, Sweet Home Alabama, Tuesday’s Gone, and if you want a riff! - try Free Bird!! 🦅 R.I.P. Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, and others. 💔
I always get emotional listening to Simple Man because you can feel RVZs heart and soul in this song. I still miss him. He was, warts and all, a special soul.
This was advice from a mother to her only son. As a mother to only one son I would tell him these woods from his birth! He has grown to a wonderful man meet an amazing woman and I danced with him at his wedding to this song! I believe the story goes. Gary rossington wrote parts based lessons his grandma taught him. I believe they were one of the first to have 3 lead guitar players at one time. Allen collins Gary rossington, and Steve Gaines. The band originated from Jacksonville Florida. The name came from their gym teacher Leonard skinner. Who use to get on to the guys for having long hair
I love this song. I have always loved the line "All I want for you my son is to be satisfied." If you think carefully that line has a double meaning. She just wants her son to be satisfied with life. But she also only wants her son to be satisfied with life and no more. It is a subtle difference, but it is there. You should listen to Rush. Fantastic band with forty-five years of fantastic music.
I actually sang this to my son starting when he was a baby. Sadly , most of the band members on that album cover were killed not to long into the career of this music. They had some great songs, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps, Free Bird is iconic, Tuesday's Gone and several more. The band did reform with the remaining members and sound just as good, they tour still, but I think someone said their guitarist just died. So I don't know where they go now.
This song is universally relatable. Does not matter what gender you are, what race, what religion……. This song speaks to all of us.

Im on the hunt, Saturday Night Special, Needle and the spoon, Things goin on, 4 walls of Rayford, Tuesdays gone on and on and on!
Don't forget Gimme Three Steps.
And call me the breeze
Tuesday’s Gone is my favorite LS tune!

There were like 3 different band that went out that way all around the same time if I remember correctly...
Lynyrd Skynyrd comes from the blue collar southern working class of Jacksonville, Florida. They are one of the greatest gems produced from the South.

It's his Mother asking him to be a Simple Man. Had a band way back in high school 1982 and we played this song at the talent show. Love this song.
