    Why would you set your timeline color space to 709 and not the much wider Davinci wide?

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1 Месяц назад +8

      DWG was covered in both a project based color management at 14:45 and node based at 16:54. If you are referring to the output color space at 15:02, this is because we want rec709 as our final output. we are still working within DWG in this scenario.

    • @stathisath
      @stathisath Месяц назад

      @@BlaineWestropp1 Timeoine colour space should be DWG not REC709. REC709 is for output only and DWG is the big colour space you want to have your image live when you are making adjustments. Look it up. @FrankGlencairn is right.

    Thanks for the tutorial, Blaine. I’m pretty sure for the node-based workflow at the end of your video, when Dehancer Source is set to DWG/Intermediate, it’s expecting DWG, not Rec.709. If you wish to grade with DWG, the Timeline Color Space should be set to DWG on the color mgmt page and the input CST ought to be ARRI logC3 to DWG, not Rec.709. Clamping a large color space like ARRI LogC3 down to a tiny one like Rec.709, followed by a huge one like DWG seems counter-intuitive. Timeline DWG, Input CST DWG, Dehancer DWG, Output CST Rec.709 would be proper color mgmt AFAIK. Anyhow, thanks again for the tutorial.

      @JonPais +1. I'm confused too about last example. My workflow is: In the project settings Timeline CS is DWG and Output CS is Rec709-A, then in node tree CST (RED to DWG) -> Dehancer (Input is DWG) -> CST (DWG to Rec709-A).

    Hii, I Have a question, I am using a non color managed work flow,. my time color space is DWG/intermediate and output color space is rec709 gamma2.4. in my first CST I convert Slog 3 into DWG and in my last cst i convert DWG in rec709 gamma 2.4 after that i place dehancer node. So my question is what Input option i should I use for this dehaner node, rec709 or DWG/Rec709 option?

    • @Dehancer
      @Dehancer  Месяц назад +1

      Following your description, looks like your pipeline is a bit unusual, as the final conversion to Rec.709 output is not needed within the DVR/WG workflow, if properly set up. Please follow our Quick Guide for OFX plugin and the corresponding video tutorial, which covers these topics as well.

    • @rbdigital3321
      @rbdigital3321 Месяц назад +1

      I would recommend just adding a Hue shift for yellow>green, seems to work for me, also pick a film emulation that isn't de-saturating greens too much.

    • @Dehancer
      @Dehancer  Месяц назад

      Hi! Sure, there will be more tutorials, follow the announcements.
      If you lack saturation somewhere, there’s a dedicated option for this. Try to adjust the Film Developer -> Color Boost setting to reveal more color in your footage. Also mind your Print and Color Head settings (white balance) to render colors properly

    • @Dehancer
      @Dehancer  Месяц назад

      If there is a dedicated profile in Dehancer, we suggest you use it first.
      If for some reason it is not an option, you can use any available means (CST, IDT, factory Luts, manual de-Log) for interpreting your source material in Rec.709 for further processing with Dehancer.

    does it only work with log footage or also with any picture profile? i.e., natural profile on panasonic in rec.709

    • @Dehancer
      @Dehancer  Месяц назад

      Shooting in Log gamma gives more space for correction, however Dehancer works well with any normal contrast source shot in Rec.709 or HLG.
      Camera profiles in Dehancer are designed to interpret low contrast (Log) video to normal contrast (Rec.709). Creative shooting modes (e.g. S-Cinetone), as well as video with normal contrast (e.g. HLG) do not need gamma curve interpretation and can be used as is.
      There is no problem for Dehancer to color grade any normal contrast source. Just select Rec.709 as Input and use Dehancer Film Developer tool or your familiar host settings to adjust any source abnormalities.

    I mean it's fine but for us real colorists we would never sacrifice time-efficiency color correcting from the beginning in Dehancer.
    I usually put Dehancer on a group per scene.
    Each clip should be adjusted first on Davinci, you have after and more accurate tools there.
    For example, If you have a Mini controller or a pro controller, you will go director to color-correct your image using the RAW tools as it will give you more control over your image, later you can go into minor details on your primaries, and finally on Dehancer.
