- In this video I talk about Jeep, Dodge and Ram having problems selling vehicles because of their pricing. I go to a Jeep dealership to check on their listed prices. I also check a Toyota dealership to see if they are stocked up on inventory.

My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I learned this in 8th grade back in 1974....If the price is too high, don't buy it. Consumers must learn that they really do wield a lot of power over these greedy dealers.

That's about the same period I was in the 8th grade. I had no credit experience then, but when I bought a 10-speed in 1975, when I was 15, I had to mow several yards, and babysit some of the neighborhood brats to put together $75.

Getting rid of the middleman and sell direct to customers will bring down the price a lot.

I owned a 2000 Toyota Camry. I bought it used in 2008 with 80K miles. It just turned 300K mile. It is a weird feeling every day I drive it too work close to 50 miles each way, and have absolutely no worry that it would leave me stranded. I save a ton of money since owning this tank-like car. One happy Toyota customer 😊
My 2003 Camry just turned 274K miles most reliable car I've ever owned!
Early 2000 Suzuki aerio are really reliable make sure you got the Japanese sticker on the inside of the door

Lol I had a 98 with 290,000 on it. Traded it for a 2018 Toyota. I have put 100,000 mi on it so far with no issues..love Toyotas.
Great video! I once went to a dealership to buy a 2010 Honda Civic. Price was like $3k over everyone else. When I asked him why he said it was because of the "dealer package". I asked him to locate it for me and I am not joking when I say that this kid opened EVERY nook and cranny looking for the dealer package. When I brought this up to the Sales Manager he informed me it was the optional pinstriping on the side that (fortunately for them) wasn't listed on the sheet 🤣 went to another dealer got it for $2k under retail 👍
My parents handed me down a 2012 jeep patriot in high school back in 2014, Chrysler left nothing ambiguous by how much a car with less than 25k on the odometer creaked and rattled..
No way in hell am I paying 40 grand for a Compass that has a build quality on par with the Fisher Price cozy coupe.

$52k is way high for a mid sized truck, even a Toyota

Yeah that's nuts, my 06 Tacoma long bed brand new was under 30. Whether it's inflation, or new features it doesn't matter, people's pay checks can't keep up
TRD is the top trim hence the 52k
Smart folks get older trucks and tune them properly so they run a very long time and well maintain them since it's more affordable.

The dealers have been doing this for quite a while in my area here in Canada. They have been telling customers that if they want their new vehicle, then they MUST pay their “market adjustment fees” as well as all the dealer markup extras such as maximum extended warranty, wheel/tire insurance, paint protection, security stickers, floor mats, auto starters, etc etc etc and if the person says no, they just sell it to someone else who will pay their extortion prices.
By operating this way, they saved me a LOT of money because rather than buying a new vehicle and playing their games, I just put a few thousand into my 15 year old Acura. For that money, I was able to swap out all the suspension and steering and it drives like a new vehicle again.
These types of dealers have REALLY left a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of people and hopefully they will suffer for their gouging in the future.
A lot of us are in the same boat . It really makes sense (more that ever) to invest in your current car.
Screw the dealers, let them go broke, or accept what we offer

Good for you! It used to be common (in my area) for people to hold onto their vehicles and pass them down to their kids. It’s only been in the past two decades that folks have gotten it into their heads that they need a new car every 3-5 years. Since that is unsustainable, LEASING has become very popular. It is not very smart, but it’s popular. I have a 12 y/o Toyota Sienna. I finally had to drop about $5,000 on the suspension to replace some parts that were starting to wear. I was happy to do it. I will have that paid off by the end of the summer. The van drives like it was new again!
This is going to kill the manufacturers the most, less volume equates to less built which causes layoffs and it’s on the dealerships
I have always been a car fanatic. Going to car shows, reading car reviews, before the internet, and then watching car review videos. Now I don’t even give a damn anymore. They have totally screwed over this industry. Luckily, I was able to enjoy getting new cars back in the day, before everything got crazy.

100% agree. Do we really need all these bells and whistles (that we are FORCED to buy) to be happy rolling down the road? The stupid screens get bigger and bigger each year, everything is electronic controlled. Some of it is safety-related, government mandated, but much is just more and more "STUFF" that's just crap to "KEEP UP WITH THE JONESES" !!!!! It's beyond stupid.

I went to a Honda dealership on a Friday in San Antonio for some parts recently. I noticed a 2023 Type R in the showroom. The price was a little over $46K. I went back on the following Tuesday to pick up some of the parts. The Type R was still there, but the price was now $67K. An almost 50% "market adjustment" fee. I went back on that Friday for the rest of the parts. The car was gone. I asked the parts guy where it went. He said some 19 y.o. came in and bought it.
That's why dealers to this shit. There is always a sucker. However that locks all customers that use their brains out. They don't think long term. Eventually you run out of suckers.
My last new car was my 2003 Ford Mustang convertible. I was able to sit down with the salesman and CHOOSE every option I wanted for myself. I ended up paying $23,000 with financing out the door. I am still driving that car and I could never pay for a new one at those prices. The government bailed out these car companies back in 2008 and they have to pay it back somehow- by passing it on to the customer.

LOL, you are clueless if you think this has anything to do with the bailout. The bailout was for GM and Chrystler, this video is showing Jeep and Toyota....Additionally the people who paid for that bailout were mostly the employees, who had their contracts basically discarded while the managers walked off with years of bonuses. The companies charge this much now because they can, they just went thru a shortage in large part due to logistical issues when it came to the electronic chips and they realized that the dealerships were charging up to 30k over MSRP as a dealer fee. Its not going to pay back anyone, its to line up the pockets of the corporations and the dealerships. Get a clue..

That Ram at the beginning is what I like to call a “sucker truck”. They always follow the same formula:
1. Dealers will take a low spec/low desirability truck that they would ordinarily make little to no profit on.
2. They will install $5k-$10k of off the shelf, mostly cosmetic aftermarket mods to make the previously boring truck look cool on the lot.
3. They will then slap a ridiculous markup on the truck. Usually 3-4x what the mods cost them. They don’t actually expect to sell the truck at that price, unless they of course they happen to get the president of the more money than brains club through the door. The truck is really there to park out front and get people in the door.
4. After a few months, they will be “willing to negotiate” the ridiculous markup down to something more like 2x what the mods cost them. Some sucker will buy it, and that one otherwise plain Jane truck will have netted the dealer a bunch of business and profit.
Yup! Back in 2017 I remember seeing new 2017 Silverado’s all star package going for 27-29k, then they had the same spec truck with a lift and wheels going for close to 60k.

i built a "aev" jeep, same jeep from the dealer was 20k more, for parts that cost 4 grand lol. Only idiots buy these vehicles
I always thank them for their time and leave if they want a ridiculous price! I have never needed a car that bad.

My buddy even got an "adjustment" for a replacement engine, too. My heart goes out to anyone dealing with a franchise dealer trying to make a buck off of people.

The main reason Ram is not selling is because Ram hasn't done anything new or upgrade since 2019 and the price has sky rocket. They even cancelled the ecodiesel engine instead of improving it. When GM doubled down on their Duramax. You cant justify an almost 40% increase since 2019 for the same vehicle. Its insane.
They need to bring back the original cummins. Yes, I know they can't .
Yeah, guys I know were getting the classics (pre classic designation) for $25k plus tax and that's Canadian. Now it's $52k (with their "discounts") idk where they found the margins on these new trucks.

Drove past a Dodge dealership in my area and they had so many cars on the lot. Almost all where marked up. A Charger GT that was stock was being sold for $55,000. They have gone insane.

Depends on the dealer. Dealer I went to only had mark ups on limited edition Ram TRX’s. A lot of vehicles were still below or at market value.

As a former car salesman I can tell you that dealers love add ons. Profits on these items are over 300%. We had a man come in and apply pin stripping. Charged ten dollars a car. The dealer charged two hundred
I had a 2020 ram 1500 bighorn and it was decent priced when I got it right before the pandemic hit. Then when my lease was up for the exact same truck with all the dealer bs was almost 70k. So I went to Toyota, fell in love with a Tacoma and got it at MSRP. Best decision I ever made.

I remember when the Jeep Grand Cherokee first came out. One of my coworkers bought a fully loaded model for over $30k (that was a lot of money back then). The transmission failed the day after he picked up his new vehicle and had to be towed 200 miles back to the dealer.
I had an early (1994) Grand Cherokee that I put 270,000 miles on before the transmission needed a rebuild. It had the 4.0 liter straight 6 too. So reliable.

The six cylinder was probably more reliable but I am pretty certain that my coworker had a V-8 in his Cherokee and probably a different transmission.
The Ford Windstar had two engine options: a 3.8 liter V-6 and a 3.0 liter V-6. The 3.0 engine was a much more reliable engine, probably because it was an older design with almost all of the bugs fixed.
Tried to buy a Rav 4 for my wife. I was told at the dealer this months allocation was sold.
Bought a Subaru Forester and love it.

What's happening is that businesses discovered that they can run up their prices and blame it on the "plandemic". The business model used to be to compete to bring us the lowest prices and still make a healthy profit; however, today, they're seeing how high they can inflate prices and still move inventory. Price gouging is being reflected in record profits for companies across many sectors. It's a short-term win but it will eventually collapse as their customer base shrinks or abandons them.

Yep. And a lot of that is enabled by the consolidation within industries. Even if there are multiple brand names, there are often just a handful of parent companies servicing the market.

I bought a 19' Jeep JL Rubicon for $49,750 in 2/19 prior to covid. Sold it to a dealer for $46,000 with 56k in 7/22. They had it on their lot for months for $51k, more than new. It disappeared from their lot recently, I feel like they had to wholesale it and take a loss. The used Jeeps in my town tripled over the summer, every lot had 20+ used Jeeps. The Jeep market has also gone down. Ironically I bought a 23' TRD PRO Tacoma for MSPR in 11/22, it appears to be worth 5-7k more than I paid because they are so hard to get. Most TRD PRO's have big dealer mark ups and mine didn't. Lucky me on both deals, the consumer doesn't win very often!!!
I hope they keep coming down. Jeep has gotten ridiculous. When I bought my 2012 Wrangler it was three years old, under $20K for a 2-door 6-speed with 30K optioned pretty nicely. A similar vehicle today is going for $35K.
Nissan has been doing this, too. Every single Nissan has the LoJack, door protectors, paint protectant etc etc. Every time my uncle would get to the finance office and suddenly there was some mandatory $3000 package that they could not sell the car without. Finally he went to a Subaru dealer and they had a Forester Premium in stock that they wanted. Still more expensive than in years past at $31,000 (I'm used to Foresters being mid-$20,000 vehicles), but since Toyota dealer wanted him to pay almost $40k for a Corolla Cross with 6500 miles on it.
Nissan struggling I feel like. They are being beaten by KIA and Hyundai at their own game…

@@cmendoza1094 Nissan is almost like Mitsubishi in the mid 2000's, although it is a much bigger company. Mitsubishi had one mass market model that sells a ton (the Outlander) and a singular halo sportscar that they kept updating to try and maintain mindshare (the Evo X). Meanwhile Nissan is heavily dependent on the Rogue to make it's money so they poured billions of $$$ into development the latest one. You can find Nissan Rogues ranging from like $$28,000 all the way up to almost $50,000!!! Meanwhile they just keep updating the 15 year old GT-R and bumping the price every year and they had to update and reuse the existing Z platform for the 400Z.
Meanwhile Infiniti is languishing. It's not like the cars are bad, they still look nice and they have nice-looking spec sheets with but the Q50 was introduced 11 years ago in 2013! I remember going to see one back then and the white paint was so thin I could see the grey sheetmetal coming up underneath. When were leaving the dealer the salesperson practically ran outside and chased after us to try and get our contact info.

I work for the upfitter company that builds the lifted Ram Badlander thay you showed. It seems the dealer is making their markup over ours. There is a few parts that make up the kit but you are right 30k is insane!

The last time I was at a car dealership, The salesman was bragging how they where well funded and the biggest, and that's going to be good for me. Then we got down to talking numbers. And the price was the biggest. Now, again, how is being the biggest is going to be good for me? A oxymoron present.

I was in the business for a long time and when I saw auction prices skyrocket in April of 2020 I promptly got out! Do not regret it at all.
Was in the market for a nice used truck when I started having transmission problems in my current truck and encountered same dealer installed extras such as low jack, flashing third brake light, and even a charged for detailing. It added 4-5k to each truck. Decided to get transmission rebuilt and keep what I have.. I can wait for the right deal to come along. I refuse to play their games..

52k for a tacoma is wayyyyyy overpriced. They should be 40k. Bought mine pre pandemic for 36k.
My 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland came in at 43K. It was my 4th Jeep, and I have been driving it for 10 years. It’s the last one I will own. The prices on these vehicles are ridiculous. I’m glad you are making this known. It’s sad to see a decent brand go into decline because of terrible management.

@Dean Allman. I'm with you. My last Jeep was a 09 Liberty. I got it with the life time warranty on what counts. I did put a 2.5inch lift, bigger tires, skids, sliders/rock rails, custom from steel bumper w/winch connect. It's my everyday driver. But though I've always thought of getting a wrangler, I ended up getting a 2019 VW Atlas (new) to replace my Chrysler T&C (last one I'm buying also), but keeping the jeep. Cars have out priced themselves.
Same here I have a 2014 ram 1500 Laramie (5.7 hemi) 42k out the door and now they are 70k and up. I'm done never buying new again
I stopped buying Jeeps in 2011.........I previously owned 4 (3 grand cherokee ltd's & 1 Wrangler). went with M-B entry level SUV's and never looked back. The quality is night and day and the pricepoint is similar.

My analogy is it's like a roulette game and they're all just pulling the winning off of a higher min bet table, knowing the gamblers will soon walk away. This is how every lender based business takes the down off the top of the loan and leaves the borrower with the long term problem. That whole secondary game is how consumers loans they are stuck with, while lenders are selling them at big discounts. Homes,remodels, and largee appliances, are the same.
So your loan was worth totally less than the cash off the top and the discount they sold it on the backend for. And their true margin was *built into all of that from the start *.
Great video. I bought a used 2018 Frontier Pro4x and love it , will never pay for an overpriced new vehicle, you can find awesome deals in general on Nissan vehicles.
Thanks, this was informative but extremely depressing. Bought my Wrangler in 2017 (placed order, paid under invoice) and cannot believe how the car market has changed in only 6 years. I would never pay these prices for Jeeps now.

Manufacturers raised the price so they can make the premium the dealers were making. GREED on both sides.

This appears to be true with Ford CEO said he was going to stop the dealer rip offs "because of market and instead appears to have raised the MSRP and fees so factory actually $$$ from the crooked dealers!! The world of American made cars today.

There was a Toyota dealer near me, back when everything was available in quantity, that would put 2 Tacoma trucks on the lot and tell customers that they can't keep them on the lot, implying they sell fast, to influence buyers to make a quick decision. The reason they couldn't keep trucks on the lot was because the manager wouldn't let them. They had an overflow lot that had 30 trucks waiting for their turn to go to the lot. They weren't charging additional prices but they wouldn't discount them off of sticker either.
Yeah, back in the 90’s, I told the local Toyota dealer that he had a lousy selection of trucks. He only had three small trucks on the lot. I ended up buying a Mazda B3000 and I still drive that truck.
Had a Ford dealership lead off with 'well, ya know, cash doesn't talk like it used to.' And I turned around and walked back out the door. BEST ever experience I had was Saturn they told you the price and that was it. And it was affordable and I drove the car until it fell apart. So, of course, Chevy stopped selling them.
Before I decided to never buy a new car/truck again, I would go looking for those back lots to find the base package vehicles that the dealers hid. Made them crazy as I refused to buy all the add on "bells and whistles".
This one deserves a call to the local TV station!!! They would have a field day with the dealer.

I have a family member that works at a dealership. Ppl are buying beyond their means and running these vehicles into the ground- expecting the dealership to have parts on hand. A family member in TX hasbeen waiting over a year for parts.
Funny enough, I'm not too far away from where you recorded this, and am very aware of this particular franchise's shameless add-on behaviors enough to when I was still shopping for a vehicle, I was deliberately avoiding that particular dealer group for that reason. You should see what they do for Hondas. $32k for a Civic with $5-7k worth of their add-ons you didn't ask for? No thanks. Bad time to shop for a new vehicle, folks, so if you're shopping, you better be doing your research and choosing your dealerships wisely! Thanks for the info, by the way!

Yes, I compared the United States to Cuba nowadays. Keep the old cars on the road no matter what you have to do. Except for the wealthy but the middle class is finished in many aspects.

I was in business with a partner, his thought was treat every customer your only customer. It wasn't a car dealership, it was a communication shop/store. As the newest of a new shop in town , the customer count dropped. As income dropped my partner jacked up the prices, hence customer count dropped and so on. I sold out and 3 months last opened a new store/shop and worked on a lower margin. In return I sold 3, and 4 times the protect, moving more radios plus, the disbs gave better pricing. In the 1st year, I went from opening a store with $37k, to ending the 1st year with over $400k.

I remember back in the 90s going to the dealer with my pap...when the salesmen approached my pap said take me to the cheapest vehicle on the lot. Which was a pickup. Complete opposite nowadays

I agree with you and you just need to find a dealer that is willing to sell a vehicle to you without. I helped my daughter buy a vehicle and all but one dealer out of six was willing to sell a vehicle without the BS extras.
Most dealer will be very reluctant to remove add ons. It is also a negotiation tool for them. They can discount a vehicle $2K, cover the cost of the pinstripe and tinted, and make it sound like they are giving you a great deal.
I wouldn’t want any of that add on junk on my brand new vehicle. Leave it factory and if I need an accessory I will buy the one I want for a fraction of the cost.
I was ready to write a check for a brand new Nissan Rogue last summer but the dealer refused to delete the add ons. I walked out and never went back.
The dealer’s adjustment are already baked in!! That’s why they’re so expensive!
I was at two dealerships in the last two weeks, dodge and Chevy. Both packed with people buying cars, but I live on Long Island where people seem to have bottomless pockets and are still consuming this over priced cars. Needless to say I didn’t purchase a new car.
Enjoying your videos and the way you explain things, I guess we all think that we're the smartest customer and the dealership won't take advantage of me. I would really like to know where and what the new car customer is working to be able to " afford" these vehicle prices. Perhaps in a future video you could interview the customer and see just how people are affording the outrageous prices, I know it's a private issue, but some people love to talk.
I drive by the local ford dealer everyday on my commute. They have about 20 lifted black widow f150’s just sitting there. All between $85-$90k. I used to think I’d love to have one, now I just shake my head
A dealership by me has 2 for sale. Around 80k they will sell them for about 60k. A 6 inch lift and wheels and tires is +20k it’s just insane not including the markup on the f-150 already

Never more relevant than now, in this marketplace madness! Buying a car is an emotional process and people tend to get swept up in the excitement. When buying a car, I always try to remind myself that I must be prepared to walk away from the deal. In 2018 I was looking at a new Tacoma TRD Off-Road, 6 speed manual tran....I fell in love with that truck, but had to walk away when the sales manager wouldn't give me what I wanted. Two hours later he called me. I told him I was at another dealer and I'd call him back. He caved, and I bought the Taco. Love that truck.

through the supply chain issues were Chevy, Ford, Toyota etc had almost no vehicles on their lots the Dodge ,Ram, Jeep lot was full and it didn't look like they were moving a whole lot of vehicles.
I live near Richmond KY just south of Lexington.
Back in '13 bought a brand new '12 ram for the "stock truck" price because they couldn't sell it after the markups for, lift, rims, tires, step rails, bedliner, etc. They reduced it to move it out. I love my truck....
In case someone hasn’t told you already. I appreciate what you are doing for the hard working American people. We all work too hard to just hand the money over to these greedy dealers(.)
Your content is right on the mark; got to wonder if car manufacturers ever look at these kinds of videos to get a feel for what's happening out in the marketplace. Guess not.
Where I am in California, dealerships are charging $10k dealer fee.
Hyundai, Kia, Chevy and Dodge all did the same. So I bought a VW Atlas, NO mark up just msrp.
In Colorado jeep is still kicking butt, we just bought one and had a tough time finding one we wanted. Had a total loss on our Wrangler
$31k for the Badlander kit is extremely expensive.
Local to me it’s still expensive at about 8-10k cost.
It’s a fully suspension kit ($2kish in parts), 20” rims and 35” tires ($2kish). Plus an LED lightbar, and some branded goodies.
So our dealers are basically charging double for install and alignment and keeping those parts under the factory warranty.
I think it’s just a way to artificially mark up the price as the makers have been giving the dealers shit about adding markups with no added value..so they throw on a lift kit and charge extra to get around the dealer markups.

Keep in mind this is based on a Big Horn and has Fox 2.5 shocks w/ 37" tires and 20" rims plus all the branded stuff and faux carbon fiber interior junk. Almost everywhere it's priced higher than a Limited and some TRX on the same lots.
Never thought I would consider a Titan, but their order prices are incredibly reasonable for a full-sized 4x4 work truck (2023 SR $43K).
In November 2022 I traded my 2017 Ram 4x4 for a used 2021 Titan PRO4 with every option available. My wife and I absolutly love the Titan.
I'm still driving the original 2004 Titan King Cab 4X4. I've had to replace my fair share of stuff because I beat the hell out of that truck, but I've never had to touch that 5.6 liter engine. Tightest turning radius of any truck I've ever had. Bought a rare 2017 king cab tundra pro to replace it. Drag raced them across an empty parking lot and the Titan kicked its ass. I was shocked. Some guy offered me a cash offer $3k over what I paid on the Tundra so I sold it and am still driving that old Titan. But I've got my eye out for a 2017-2018 Titan (year before they went to the 9 speed).
Love my 21 xd, only old school truck left on the market.

The car market will work it self out this year for the most part. The problem is people are paying these prices and racking up credit debt. Personally I’m waiting for interest rates to drop, because 7-10% interest is insane.

Toyota dealers in Southern California from Los Angeles to San Diego are charging $5000+ Market Adjustments depending on model. These dealerships working together against the customer. I’ve called 20+.

I am glad I got my 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport when I did. No market adjustment and out the door was a little under $40k. Prices are crazy.
new car allocation up in Washington state is almost back to normal and we have no second sticker or dealer add-ons. There is a definite change in what our customers are inquiring about and purchasing, which is lower to mid trim levels within the lineup. Increase in Interest rates also have a factor in this.
I bought my 2014 Ram Hemi three years ago. 53k miles, $17.5k. It’s barely a step up from the base model but I swear these days I feel like it’s solid gold.

I have a super clean excellent condition 2008 Hemi Mega Cab 4x4 with 167K miles. I own it I take excellent care of it. I bought her with 100K miles for $12.500 5 yrs ago. I can NOT imagine replacing this truck now a day. Would cost me 30-50k used with high miles.

I'm a computer nerd. I remember watching the video card supply chain last year and it did exactly this. Prices remained high until the scarcity principle and demand ran its course. Eventually, people are just going to stop buying and the facilities overhead will catch up with dealers.
When South Korea pleaded with the Auto Mfg's to buy their abundance of all the various chips they had to sell and the it was asserted there is only a fake shortage, I began to feel the alleged ''broken supply chain'' was all pre-planned and feigned. Do you perceive any degree of merit to this notion?
@@chuckbecker8735 Not the guy you replied to but been invested in the semiconductor space for a while. The chips that most car manufacturers are using are from older "nodes" - meaning, these are old, outdated chips with low profit margins from the semiconductor fabs. They have no incentive to make more of these older chips as they don't make a lot of money off of these and building multi-million dollar chip fabs just for these older chips is totally out of the question. The car manufacturers can't dictate anything to the chip fabs as the volume of chip orders from other industries dwarf that of the car manufacturers and the chips are usually from the newer nodes with higher profit margins.
We got a chip shortage because car manufacturers foolishly cancelled a lot of their chip orders during the start of the global lockdowns and the fabs pretty much just shrugged and allocated those chip manufacturing slots to other customers. By the time car manufacturers realized that car demand was up and they wanted chips after all, the fabs can't do anything to but to tell them to shuffle to the back of the line.
Chip supply will normalize at some point, but car manufacturers have to realize they have to move on from using these cheaper and older chips as the manufacturing capacity for these will never increase beyond the old chip fabs already built for these - and these fabs will get shut down or pivot at some point to newer nodes and chip designs.
This term in economic theory I learned is called "The bullwhip affect"
unfortunately there's no real competition in this sector (price wise) for the market to do what it does...
I watched one of your other videos to see what’s going on here in Las Vegas. One Ford dealer here (Gaudin Ford) has at least 70+ F-150’s on their lot as well as other cars and all of them have a 3k market adjustment fee on them. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing yesterday! I guess they don’t want to sell what’s on their lot!
So here on San Diego, CA., the Toyota dealership lots are empty. The Nissan lots are low but have a variety. The Suburu, Lexus, and Honda dealer lots are full. I haven't gone by the Jeep dealer.
I remember thinking my $452/mo payment as a single 26yr old making close to six figures was the most I wanted to pay. I honestly don’t know how these people are doing it.
I rode that car for 205 miles and engine finally gave in after 10 years of hard driving & minimal service costs. Infiniti used to build them so well.
Infiniti & Nissan was bought out by Fiat. It's been terrible ever since. Avoid.

I remember in 2010 when the deal I got on a brand new Ram was good enough where it made more sense to buy new than late model used. I doubt I’ll see that again.

Couple years ago I was going to trade in my 2005 Tahoe 4x4 on a new Wagoner until I saw the sticker of around 98k. When the salesman heard what I told my wife he turned around and went back to his buddy.
I will no longer even consider a Jeep from this point forward.
I have been looking for a newer vehicle because of our new addition to the family. It just seems like every time I look it's just impossible to swing. Good credit and gainfully employed. I'm just gonna hold on to my single cab 2010 F-150 till this madness comes to a stop. Thank you brother.

@@Paulco67 it's perfect Black 2010 F-150 STX 71,000 miles on the odometer. Bought for 20k in 2014 only had like 35k on it. It was perfect for me when I was single. But in the past 2 years I have basically gotten married 🤣and had a kid. It's just rough sometimes having only one car suited for a car seat. As much as I drive and as well as I take care of it one day my son could actually drive it. We need to get this intruder out of the office. It's a whole package with interior/exterior cosmetic upgrades in additional to the lift. Still likely overpriced. It's basically a lifted, customized truck and you can roll the price of the upgrades into the financing, which appeals to a lot of people. It also is covered under the warranty.
The difference is the dealerships profit margin. I worked car sales for 3 days and saw someone buy a new base model Kia Optima with 'Lamborghini doors' added on by the dealer. The dealer added a 18K markup for the ~3K Lamborgini doors. And the guy who bought it was about to do a cartwheel out the dealer, He was so happy with his 44K base Kia with Lambo doors.
They are using the Rick from Pawn Star excuse. They have overhead and employees to pay. They have to pay for shipping and handling. Taxes and fees. The vehicle will just sit there until someone buys it, in the mean time it accumulates expenses. They have to put it in a nice frame to make it sellable. You know the whole spiel.

I got a new truck in 2022, paid MSRP and no crazy markups. Ford dealers were wanting silly additional admin and PDI fees, so I ditched that brand after 20 years and got my first Toyota truck.
bought my 06 mustang for $6k outright in 2021 at 113k miles. Then I paid another $6k+ fixing it up, and still got a better deal than most used cars today.
Still runs nice and smooth today at 132k miles 😁
I've owned around 100 vehicles in my life. I bought new once, and that was enough of a lesson for me. Always, always buy used. So financially silly to pay the premium of a new vehicle which will never be recovered (assuming it isn't an exotic exclusive, limited production).

My uncle is a multi millionaire. He has only bought about five new vehicles. Those that he bought new were for wife/kids. I'm pretty sure that he has never bought a new one for himself. He has probably bought about 100 cars and trucks for himself and his various businesses.
I am not a millionaire, but I don't believe in car payments. Even if I could afford to pay cash for a brand new car, I would never do it because of the instant loss in value.
I have always payed cash for reliable vehicles with acceptable mileage for the car.
Most of my cars have lasted over ten years, and were easy sales when I did get rid of them.

Yesterday, Desert Toyota Palm Springs, CA - ZERO 4Runners, one Tacoma.
Bought a brand new trailblazer LT AWD for 30K. Dealership was trying to get 40K. Stay firm and walk out if you have to. The salesman said they wouldn't get another in for months and I said I didn't care. The finance guy was cool and eventually told me they were getting a shipment in the next day with the color I was looking for. BE aggressive with them because they are going to play games. Also, after you get them way down on the asking price they will try to get you on the interest rate. They tried to finance it for me at a 7% interest rate. I called my bank and my bank was offering 3.8%. The dealership was caught off guard. They gave me a 3.79% rate because they want you you go through them. So in short, be firm and negotiate final price, then stay on top by shopping for better interest rates.

I'm starting to see this with parts too. Dealer tried to charge me $80 for an L5P diesel fuel filter, just for the PART. $30 for the same exact genuine AC Delco part from online parts sellers.
I don't even want to imagine what a 4Runner Limited is going for now. I know the sticker price is somehow mostly same as it's been for the past 5ish years, but I can see dealers boosting it into the $60k range just cause.

I’m 46 years old. Paid my house off this past summer. Always planned on buying myself a new truck as my reward. I have an 09 Sierra. No way in hell am I paying $70-$80k for a new truck… I guess “ old blue “ is going to be sticking around for a while.

We went to Toyota in July looking for a Camry hybrid, there wasn’t any in stock but they had two coming, one was the LE, the other was top of the line SLE. We put a deposit on the LE which listed for $31795. They didn’t know when it would arrive and we wanted to make a trip to IL from FL for a reunion. It arrived 4 days before we left, we love it, we get 47.8 mpg at 75 mph and 53.7 mpg around town and cruising under 60 mph. Every other manufacturers cars were being over priced by dealers, they priced themselves out of a sale. Nissan dealer marks up their vehicles with $11,395 add ons, I wouldn’t have a Nissan car if they gave it to because of their lousy CVT.
I went to Mini BMW and bought an electric MINI for $2500 under MSRP. I worked w 3 dealerships and got competing orders and kept pitting them against the others. I used the 2500 i saved and installed a supercharger at my house!!! Car charges for quickly!
I havent been able to drive in 13 years, but my last truck was a new 205 Ram 1500 ST 4X4 with the 5.7 HEMI, and dang, it was mid to lower 20-24k from what i remember, what they charge now, its crazy.
