When I was shopping for a truck, I test drove them all. I ended up with a 2022 Ram Rebel. The interior of the Rebel was leaps and bounds above the rest. The Hemi provides plenty of power, the ride is fantastic and the overall look of the truck, to me at least, is better than the competition. I've had 22000 trouble free miles so far. The new Tundra, I don't know. I just can't get over the GIGANTIC FACE on that thing. They are great and dependable trucks, but I just don't like the overall look of the truck. Price point, I get it, but I'm still sticking with the Ram.That's my 2 cents worth.
The V8 would be a major decision factor. I had a 2008 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7L V8, plenty of power, extremely reliable...other than a few years that Toyota got a hold of a bad batch of axle and differential bearings, which unfortunately my Tundra fell victim of :(. The only way I'd buy another Tundra would be if it had a V8, so 2021 or older. Not a fan of that turbo engine crap that all these automakers are trying to push onto people.
Spot on opinion! Literally what I thought of and ended up doing as well. I have a 2023 Ram Rebel and absolutely love it. I tried to love the tundra but that grill is just too dang ugly.. I’m super happy with my decision, my ram rebel is the best

Drove both. I bought the Tundra because of the extra power and weight pull. Chrome does not impress me. I want a truck that will work over 100,000 miles. Ram can't do that. without going into the shop.
The more comprable test would have been a Tundra with the Capstone trim... 22 inch wheels as standard, and the price would rival the Ram 1500 much more closely (Capstone = $77k USD)

Nice the Tundra has a rear load leveling air suspension but yeah I've heard good things about the 4 corner air on the Ram. Also had no idea it's available on even Big Horn models, which is nice that it's not only on the top models.

Got the auto load leveling on my 1794 edition. It works beautifully and I don’t have to worry about blinding people at night.

I bought Toyota Limited hybrid year ago. I'm not happy with few small things about that truck, but overall very satisfied with my new choice. Used to be Ford 150 fan.

The 1794 trim level is the only other option I looked at while deciding which truck to buy. Im a Ram guy, and always will be.
Toyota did a great job with the 1794. However, it just isnt as "soft" and luxurious as the Limited, let alone the Limited Elite

That Ram will not last as long as the Toyota and I guarantee Rams have more major failures before 200k than Toyota so there is that. I could care less which one is more luxurious I want a truck to work it and use it for my hauling needs. If I want Luxury I would buy a Lexus.

Ram regular Limited is still the one I would get.
The ride difference comes down to the 20 inch wheels on the Tundra vs the 22 inch wheels on the Ram. I wish you guys would've gone more into the driving differences like the adaptive cruise control and other features they have for a comparison there. I'm not sure what the 1794 does or doesn't have compared to the Limited and would appreciate seeing and hearing your thoughts on the differences.

I have a 2020 Ram Big Horn in the Built to Serve Edition. For a Big Horn it is pretty well optioned out. The truck rides so well and is really comfortable. Haven't towed a lot with it but when i have it has handled it like a champ.
Don't have too much confidence in that cheap chit.
Dodge/Fiat mark the price of that trash up to Ford Chevy and Toyota, but best believe once you start putting that cheap chit to real hard work, you'll forever be fixing things on it.

I use to hear lots of bad talk about Ford and let me tell you "I was a fool to believe Chevy truck was better 🤦♂️"... Drove an air suspension ram from Ohio to Hilton Head, SC and it was amazing being able to lower the ride height with kids in-and-out and unpacking. Can't beat a Toyota though. Even in a new line the quality tends to be better long term.

I very much agree with the Ram hybrid feel. It makes the start/stop invisible and it is the only time I drove a vehicle with it that I didn't search for a way to disable it. Other than that, it's unnoticeable. I absolutely love the split tailgate and Ramboxes. As someone who actually hauls and tows, they are great additions! You really lose nothing in the bed but gain lots of lockable storage for tools and towing gear. Unloading with the split tailgate is awesome. You don't need a step as you can damn near reach the back of the cab. Much more useful than the crazy gate from GM
Start/stop systems are trash, never get a vehicle with one

It’s because it uses the 48v system to do the start/stop if I’m not mistaken. Had a jeep with one that used the belt driven generator to do the Stop/start instead of the starter motor. It was simply perfect. Everyone should do it that way.

Test drive a 2023 Tundra 1794 TRD Pro yesterday. Butter smooth, comfortable, and I do like the interior. Honestly wasn’t on my list of possible trucks, but now…it’s solidly on there. The display, honestly, better than the Ram. The vertical placement is weird to me. Not ugly, just something I’d have to take time to get used to. With the horizontal display, no issues, feels natural. The plastic in the Tundra bumpers, front & back…feels cheap. But the dependability? Phenomenal. Also, the truck I drove just had WAY too much chrome. The grill & all the other shiny stuff would get swapped out/wrapped/plasti-dipped. Can’t do that much chrome.

I just couldn’t resist the beautiful cab in the 1794 and it’s a TRD so I got the Bilsteins. I’ll do a 2 in front leveling kit, delete the chrome, and I’ll be set

Ram limited with the night package looks/drives phenomally. If they were both the same price, I'd probably go with the Ram limited but as they are, the Tundra Platinum would be my go to.
I know these are "luxury" trucks, and you're not buying these for the job site, but that 1k pound payload on the Ram is ridiculous for a full size truck. Like, it can't even carry 20% of it's own weight? Four people and their stuff will max out the payload, let alone anything heavy in the bed or tongue weight from a trailer.

My 2021 Ram 1500 4x4 Limited Longhorn MSRP at $71,000. I only paid $58,890 out the door. It has the 3.92 gears. And can tow 11,217 lbs,, and haul 2,317 lbs.
They forgot to mention the heads up display,the reclining back seats,the multifunctional drivers display,mirror cameras,the rearview camera in the rearview mirror,the auto collision feature front and rear,cranking ass premium Harmon Kardon system,the traffic cam notification and traffic speed zone awareness notification. This out does the Tundra by dozens. I love the stiffness of my elite.
The Tundra will last way longer. End of discussion. Way better truck. I own one. 2024.

Would have been interesting to have had the Toyota Tundra Capstone in this comparison; believe it would have been a better match in both pricing and perceived interior luxury. All are more than I would be willing to drop on a vehicle though...

Never owned a pick up and I am looking as we need it to haul a travel trailer. GM, Ford, Ram and Toyota all have lot to offer, and know every manufacture have issues. For me being NEW to the market tests drove Ram, Ford, GM they all had great things on the interior trims which were nice. Toyota will be this week as this video gave me something to think about. I look at everything from can it haul my travel trailer, reliability, and value for price. I Love this channel and is helping me in answering questions I have,
Really interesting comparison. Thanks for doing it. I'm on my 3rd Ram, coming from a family of diehard Toyota fans. It's a good truck, and they've done a beautiful job on the interior design, but Ram trucks leak badly. Every single one of mine have leaked, and speaking to the dealer the new Rams do, too. They leak from the rear window, the 3rd high-mounted stop light, the GPS antenna, and most of all from the cab vents behind the rear seat. And I don't mean they get a little damp, I mean I've had standing water in the storage area beneath the rear bench. They've known about this problem for at least 3 generations of Ram and they're still ignoring it. So, people are spending $100K (which is ridiculous for a truck, by the way), and it's going to leak on them because Ram is too cheap to fix the existing problem.
Also, the 5.7 hemi has a habit of destroying itself when the problem with the lifters rears its head and they disintegrate, usually around the 200,000 mile mark. You made the point yourselves, the 5.7 Hemi has been around for ages. So, it begs the question: Why haven't they fixed that problem? They've known about it for DECADES!
So, having owned 3 Rams, I can honestly say I'm a fan, but I'm kind of sick of giving them my money only to later learn they refused to fix known/existing problems and dealers refuse to address them under warranty. At this point, I'd consider the Toyota just to get a truck that won't leak, or maybe detonate the engine after 200,000 miles, or maybe have decent, honest dealer support. I like the refresh that Toyota did with the Tundra. It looks pretty nice to me, inside and out. The only things I really don't like about it are the shifter (which looks like it came out of a 1987 parts bin) and the fact that the engine noise you're hearing is fake, piped in through the speakers nonstop while it's running. You can't even turn it off in the settings. Smh.

Haven’t driven one yet I’m in Australia so waiting for them to go through the engineering process to be converted to RHand drive.

I think most people like me wanted a Tundra but could not order one, so we bought something else. Then the Sequoia came, as a ghost. You can't expect high volume if you can't have them in inventory. I waited 5 months for my '22 Rav4 Hybrid, 3 months for my '23 4Runner. Some people have been dropped from their Tundra orders because the year changed. That was more than 14 months of wait...
You’re correct, the lack of being able to order the Tundra is a serious disappointment. I was lucky that my dealer found my ‘23 1794 edition hybrid with the 6.5 ft bed in under two weeks. But there are people who have been waiting over six months to find the truck they want.
Wanted a TRD Pro, but couldn’t find one. Bought an LS500 w/ the twin-turbo V6…couldn’t be happier😂
I bought a GMC because I got tired of waiting for the new generation. Although the GMC interior was dated, the truck is much more refined. A lot less plastic, especially in the fender wells, bumpers and skid plates. And the tail gate is incredible.
First off the reason why the ram felt a bit rougher was the 22inch wheels. A set of 20s on the air ride is an absolute amazing ride. Still the air suspension does a pretty decent job at smoothing out the 22s. Second thing sounds like that ram had 3.21 gearing. Throw the 3.92 gears in there and you're good to tow 11000lbs and have a much more stable and level truck then any other.
Love the tundra but the lines and designer look just like the ram! Look at the front again and notice the hood and the lines come off the hood into the grill almost exactly like the ram does. Either way tundra is still a well put together truck and the reliability and power and efficiency is definitely there. both trucks are nice buy what you like and like what works whichever that is.

I had 3 rams in my life. I used to be a chevy guy until my engine blew at 83000 miles. My first ram had over 140000iles on it when i traded it and everything still worked. My second ram which i still have has over 205000 miles and everything still works. I used it as my work truck. My third ram is a 2022 ram gt. And that is my retirement truck. After having this trucks i will never drive anything else
Toyota will outlast ram… I have owned all the 4 trucks. Toyota holds its value and is just built better

The difference is reliability and resale value period and Toyota wins every time.
Reliability used to be Toyota with the old style design and the 5.7. This new truck is up in the air. Reliability is now definitely Ram among trucks.

I have a ram limited and was interested in a 22 tundra when it was time to trade my camry in due to the pricing. The ram got my purchase due to the air suspension and remote start. The tundra remote starts shuts off after you unlock the doors, very annoying in my camry and did not want to live with that again.

I just bought a 2023 Warlock quad cab so it has the 6 ft 4 inch bed, V-6, tow package with 355 gears, anti-spin rear, fogs, tow hooks, power rear window, power seat and i need to add VERY comfortable, fender liners, some other useful options and i got it at a great price, 9 grand off list. It's not a limited but not 75 grand USD either, i wouldn't mind having the HEMI with the 392 gears but the V-6 is fine and super smooth.

Totally agree with you. If money isn't a factor, the ram is nicer..... but since this is real life and most of us value our money... the Tundra makes more sense.
But if you stepped up to the top in Tundra or down in Ram, the price is pretty much equal.
The tundra holds resale value while the Ram drops like a rock.

I like the exterior styling of the Ram better. I don't like the way Toyota has done the rear bumper on the Tundra. I do think the Tundra is a better value.
I like the front of the Tundra but the side profile reminds me too much of a Tacoma, the tailgate and rear lights/bumper don't do much for me. I have found that the Tundra looks better in person than in pictures or video, not sure why, depth perception I guess, nonetheless, the new Tundra style has grown on me and I see myself purchasing one in the future!

The Capstone is more of a competitor to this Ram than the 1794 is.

@@davidmckibbin4440 I'm disappointed with the new Tundra. Looks too much like a GM from the side, and the grill is too much. With thos being all jew I was expecting more. Instead wr got a mid level competitor this isn't really class leading at anything but is instead more middle of the pack. I wish they'd have kept the 5.7 and updated it. 400hp and 425 torque wouldn't be out of the question for that engine.

@@mottom2657 id rather have the less efficient, simpler engine if im keeping it long term. If I were just leaseing for 3 years I wouldn't even worry about the V8. They could have just revamped the V8 and made it more efficient. My wifes sequoia limited isn't as bad on fuel as I thought it would be, but it is a 2wd. I do lile the sequoia but id at least like to be able to choose to not go with a hybrid, again, if I were keeping it long term. Im sure that Toyotas TT v6 will last and be more reliable than the average TT v6 but I'd trade a couple mpg for the simpler engine with less that cpuld go wrong.

I'm not sure if in Canada it is similar to the US one truck sales. Typically a Toyota product there is no room to negotiate, you would typically pay MSRP plus some additional dealer mark up or maybe you can get those waived. Many Ram Trucks are discounted and the discounts can be huge. I was just quoted on a Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4 with Hemi, MSRP of $67,000 but I could buy this premium truck all day long for low $53,000 or 20% off sticker. I know on the Limited they do not offer as much in discounts but it is substantial enough right now to make it competitive with the Tundra. Other than that, I thought you guys did a great job with this review/comparison.

Tundra looks fine till you get to the grill. If it didn’t spill onto the bumper I think it would look much better.

Always wondered why the 6.4 Hemi isn't an option on the Ram. For the money their asking for it, it should have at least the 6.4 Hemi. Their both real nice trucks but their seriously expensive.
The 500HP Hurricane engine should become available in the Ram next year.

Because the 392 will achieve a worse MPG # than the 345, and the OEM's are required to achieve a 20 MPG average across their fleet sales. Putting a 392 in a Ram 1500 would make achieving that a much harder task. Why do you think that GM is so selective on what they put a L87 in.?.?
I don't like that. I mean F the EPA, but the government CAFE regulations is why the OEM's are reluctant to put large ci V8's in modern trucks. Especially the big 3 whose volume sellers are large trucks and SUV's.
@@JROC734 Why is that a bad thing? It's an average of their fleet. They have the option of making it work by adding super-efficient models to the brand. Ford did with the Maverick. They don't because everyone shops by mpg. Some don't care but the average buyer sure does. And, it's obvious, the big v8 is just unnecessary anymore.
Should talk about the difference in servicing price, oil change, coil pack and spark plugs change. I know in dodge 5.7 hemi will run about at least 600 USD just to do coil and spark plugs.
I was thinking a out the sales too, specifically with the Sequoia, I have only seen 2 new Sequoias in the last year, I think people are hesitant of it for the price, even though the engine has been out for a while in the LS500.

I love these guys! I can listen to this all everyday. I love my vehicles. But I will say I may give tundra the edge but don’t ask me why. Lol
They are good for showing how much weight the trucks can carry for sure.

Great review, the Ram looks so amazing….Dodge always had great design theme but it was their reliability is spotty.
Tundra is OK and nothing ground breaking. Time will tell how reliable the new power plant will be…I wish the entry level Tundra would have the 5.7 litre engine.
Towing capacity, torque, HP, reliability, $20k less than the RAM... this is a no-brainer unless you're an old man "farmer JIM" who only buys America.... oh wait, the Toyota Tundra is built in Texas and pumps more money into the U.S. economy than GM, Ford, and RAM.

Choosing the Tundra trim because it also looks like a truck that exudes “Texas” instead of the top trim despite a 20k+ difference in price doesn’t add up lol however the Ram will still have the more quality and attention to detail, I’ve driven a new Capstone Tundra and I felt like I was sitting first class and was the most important driver on the road. With this being said, I bought a ‘04 GX470 THATS A WIN 🏆🤣🤣
Would buy the Tundra 1794 and did with AVS and power running boards. Absolutely love it!
Having to put a loose rubber bedsheet to prevent slipping bugs me. Unless you pull it out and clean it all the time, you would be asking for mold and mildew in warm, humid climates. I've owned many Toyotas in the past, but some of their recent redesigns make me raise my eyebrows.
Mold and mildew? How would you have that on the rubber mat but not on a bedliner? You'd have the same chance. The stock lined beds on a Ram are slick as well and items slide around on those easily. Maybe not as much as the hard plastic but they still do. I don't mind as it makes unloading easier. I don't use a rubber mat now so I probably wouldn't then.

Every guy I know who had the ram air bag suspension had nothing but problems in real Canada cold weather. Tundra resale is another HUGE factor!
That’s a good one, calling Ram the king. I’m thankful for the later model Rams as they provide me with plenty of repair side work so I am able to take multiple vacations a year

My Ram towing capacity is over 12000 lbs also with the 5.7 hemi payload is 1375 lbs.
Not sure why that particular model Ram was less.
The Ram is for executives with a huge vehicle allowance.
As a Ram guy I like it..but dollar wise Tundra wins for the general masses, not getting that much more for dollars in the Ram.
Truck makers left the work market a long time ago, which is fine, just takes longer to find basic trucks outside the the corporate fleet lease world.
Spec'd the same they are much closer in price. A Tundra Capstone is $80K as well.
Your not getting anything more. Your getting a less capable, less reliable, less powerful, truck and less resale value too for 20k more. This comparison favors the tundra heavily.
@tymt84 in Canada I'm with you but in America the capstone is priced exactly to the limited so to me the ram is where it's at especially lifted on 6's.
The Ram prices are being heavily discounted now, which the Tundra is commanding above MSRP.
They don't produce many of them to begin with, RAM averages over 3X the sales vs Tundra, lots to do with transaction prices.
that is exactly why I got the RAM over the Tundra, Toyota outpriced themselves over the competition.
@@robertmcghee3646 Not like the new Tundra has been winning many awards. It's been placing usually behind the big 3 Trucks in almost all comparison test so far. The highest I saw was 2nd place, but most are 3rd or 4th. It's not made to compete against Ford, GM or RAM. It's for people who only want a Toyota.
The options available tend to allow buyers the ability to hand select for their desires/needs. I had my Ram built with specific selections because no lots had the options I desired. I hadn’t shopped the Tundra 3 years ago. But if/when I look to buy again, I will.
Toyota sucks in this regard. You cannot just order a truck with your options. Toyotas are just randomly built with whatever packages and those are shipped to dealers. If they happen to get a vehicle that matches what you want then you’re in luck. I find it very irritating
I still like the 1794 of all the Tundras. Though, I would switch out the chrome grill for another 'blackened' Toyota grill. I've heard it's a $1,000 up grade.

So many complain of the Tundras looks. Which I was apprehensive as well until I saw it in person. Certain models and colors look really good. I currently own a 2020 white tundra and the other day at the mall a 2023 white Platinum was parked next to me. It looked amazing imo. Better than a F150 or Ram though some of the new Chevy/GM’s look great. I’m still a fan of Ram and have owned I believe 8 of their pickups of the years but in this comparison I think the Tundra is the clear winner with the price difference. Especially when you consider resale value.
I drive a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Anniversary model and love it. Just get scared about all the new electrical gages that exist. I just hope that it doesn't cause any problems in the future..
Good luck my friend. I own a 2020 ram limited and it has given me nothing but electrical issues. It's so frustrating. Will be trading it in for a tundra shortly as I can't stomach another bill from the shop.
The payloads for these types of vehicles seem very low, in Australia most dual cabs have 1000 kg or close to that figure.
Ram looks better than the Tundra. Not $20k better but, better. I think the new Sierra Denali has the nicest interior in the full size truck category and combined with the diesel gets better MPG and towing capacity than both Ram and Tundra.
You know what they say about opinions..... Ram DS being almost 6yo and still leads the pack bar none!!! The fact GM had to change interior's in less than 3 years and still is chasing says a lot about the design and quality!!!

Agreed, the Sierra Denali Ultimate hands down is the best truck in the segement!
I still think ram has the best interior but gmc has the best exterior.

100% went with the ram limited specifically because its the same old hemi that just works with very few issues, the ram interior and ride are pretty hard to beat. not a fan of the multi function gate on the ram kind of wish i did get the longer bed and ram boxes with the 33gal tank but very happy with my ram. the new tundra is love it or hate it looks but its better in some colors and grills. first model year, twin turbo six, ehhh too much going on till its proves to be reliable (like old toyotas).
I’ll take a new design Toyota engine to outlast an old design Ram engine everyday. Resale values back this up too

The engine in the Tundra isn't "new" it been used for years in the lexus platform. The V35A-FTS is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline engine debuted in 2017 with the fifth-generation Lexus LS 500

That's the problem with these comparisons. I wouldn't buy either of them. I'd buy a Ram big horn with cloth seats, and my 2019 big horn can tow 11,000+ pounds with 1750 pounds of payload. The hemi is a proven power train, the very feature you guys were praising when you reviewed the last gen tundra.
Proven? These engines are known to be prone to failure.
@@FrameRot Completely not true. FCA puts these 5.7's in everything they build, there are literally millions and millions of these things on the road and even more millions that were built. No doubt you'll here a story or two of failure, that's just due to the scale and shear number that were built.
@@JohnSmith-ev1sm yes, as one of their standard engines they will put it in a ton of their vehicles. Doesn't mean it's not prone to failure by design.
@@FrameRot There is no "failure by design". They had some quality issues with a vendor providing the lifters. The part isn't even made by FCA directly, you realize that right?

I have a '21 Tundra and I love that body, but i also love this new one... Looks so clean on the front. I will say i feel like the New tundra SR5 is more underwhelming visually. I feel like this new gen the plat/1794/TRD are the only front ends looking the way i would buy them. Just my opinion tho.
