I initially thought JJ was going to expose her for giving away "free" photoshoots but charging through the nose for each photo (as I've seen many other "free" photoshoots do), but she actually gave away the final photo as well.

    • @DIDYOUSEETHAT172
      @DIDYOUSEETHAT172 8 месяцев назад +32

      Define scam? it is not a marketing tool, it is a marketing ploy. Learn the difference. It is an age old fishing lure ploy long used by various retail stores, and most famously by the dreaded used car salesman. And anyone who uses it deserves to be spoken to harshly. It is called "Bait and switch!" Based on the principle you lure the fish in with a very inexpensive, or free offer, then switch to an outlandishly expensive 'car' once you get there and find out the advertised model just happened to be sold the second before you arrived, or follow up you can't refuse once they have you on the hook. Just as with those 29.99 on line programs, get a turnkey for 29.99, or a free success book, then Oh wait here is this for another 99.99, oh wait you took those now here is the 999.99. SO yes it is a scam that is not illegal.

    • @cdog4100

      It's a bit predatory in so much she is preying on the kid's false belief that they could be models and the parent's nostalgia in the kid leaving the roost soon. While not illegal, it is sleazy. It's legal to be sleazy. But sleazy is sleazy.

    • @jasminecarroll9788
      @jasminecarroll9788 8 месяцев назад +22

      I didn't really see it as an attack, so much as Judge Judy was trying to pull away the fluff. The practice, though totally legal and an EXCELLENT way to make money, is also kind of predatory. Judge Judy even said that it was totally legal and "ingenious," but I'm guessing a big part of this case is these parents thinking their daughter was special, and so that should have made some sort of difference, and the judge is just trying to help them see that there's nothing special about it, this is this woman's genius, roundabout way to make money. The reason the plaintiff wasn't standing on her business with her whole chest is because she KNOWS she's sort of preying on vanity and ignorance with this business model. She just didn't expect the judge to come out and state it for what it really was. She probably regretted bringing her case to television after that, because the more people that see it, the more people will be disillusioned, and that hurts her wallet.

      I think it's one of two reasons:
      1. To ensure teenagers watching aren't fooled by the 'model shoot'.
      2. A test of trustworthiness - sometimes Judge Judy has a test to see how trustworthy one litigant is. When the plaintiff admitted it Judge Judy said "Good" (2:29) - i.e. "Good, I can trust you to tell the truth" if that's what she was doing. Additionally from 2:12 to 2:16, Judge Judy clarifies it's not illegal but just wants her to be upfront about it

Take senior pictures then take extra "modeling" pictures and charge you an arm & leg? Damn, what happened to just taking senior pictures? Smh!

    I have no idea how the pictures and session(s) cost over $1,000. Am I missing something? I don't remember how much my family had to pay, but it was nowhere near that amount. The maximum amount we would have spent , at most, is a price slightly over $100 to get pictures. We had the option of going elsewhere, but most people used the photographer my school used. Maybe that's why?

    The plaintiff clearly understands psychological obligation. I've seen it in many forms, from a tour guide handing out recycled material laundry bags and cookies his wife made to somebody attempting to put one of those string bracelets on me. Heck, the dealership I bought my last car from has offered to let me drive a certain vehicle for a weekend or so, and is engaging in other tactics to get me to the dealership, as their market research must show that I've had this car for four years now and they think I'm in the market for a new one (I'm not. I love the car I'm driving).
    For things like the string bracelet, I jerked my hand away like it was live wires, and I declined the offer from the car dealer. I took the bag and cookies, but gave the same tip I would have given.
    If somebody is offering something for free, look for the hidden agenda. In this case, these modeling photos are the warm-up to what are probably overpriced graduation photos.
