    The fact the MP target combo seems to routinely push characters out of range on punish when other characters normals on punish seem to act like a bloody vacuum and pull you in is a travesty.

      What you are describing here is Peak Zangief Hours. We work hard for these combos that aren't combos, and can't combo into our throws like the newer characters, but when we hit, things typically take damage.

    Me when the second hit of the dedicated whiff counter combo whiffs and i get punished.

    Some clarification on the headbutt meter change.
    - moves build half as much meter on block as on hit, new headbutt builds as much super on block as 5HK on block so on hit new headbutt is building 10% rather than the current 5% (or for the screenshots 5% on block instead of 2.5% on block)
    -As you noted it synergize as with the +7 on hit. Headbutt lariat deals 21% damage and builds 16.5% meter, new patch headbutt hellstab lariat is 26.6% damage and 26.5% meter.

    The crouch heavy punch "buff" is for modern players because they don't have acces to heavy kick and forward heavy kick to juggle the adversary on punisch counter. And as you said is there is no other changes ro get with the stomp "buff" is useless

    This changes suck, just make Lariat work like it looks.
    or cut one of Zangief's arm so it looks as useless as it is, Zangief retires and becomes the Oro of wrestling.

      That’s what I’ve been saying. The shotos tatsu hits both sides and it’s one leg horizontal and the other leg down. Meanwhile zangief has both arms helicoptering and some how the arm behind him disappears.

      The worst part about all of this, is that I bet they take his previous buff he got after capcom cup into account, and as a result this is all he gets.
      Wouldn't surprise me

    A better buff for Cr .HP would be for it to keep its slow speed, but let it juggle into air spd.
    OP? Possibly, but its slow as hell and characters like chun already get like 25% anti airs

      Making 2hp faster and super cancelable would've fix the button immediately.

      SPD is now a hit grab, but don't worry you can't combo into it because that would be broken. Also st.HP no longer has armour because people weren't using tundra storm enough

    It's not the greatest change in the world, but we should get more damage off DR~6HP, 22MK-MK instead of 3MP right?
    5HK = 1000
    6HP = 900
    3MP = 800
    22MK~MK = 1000
    So combo routes will probably change to use 6HP, 22MK~MK as the finisher instead of 5HK, 3MP. 6HP is more consistent as well since it hits crouching opponents.
    Also canceling after 2 stomps will be nice in those niche time when you get a meaty stomp and they DI so you can DI back.
    But it does seem really strange to fix this when 5MP tc is right there...

      With current stomps, the scaling is very hard. Unless they change the scaling between the two, hellstab will remain as the main combo filler.

    Made master rank with Zangief last night, some thoughts: Stomp is still unusable...down HP is nice, but if you cant dr. cancel off it, it's pointless. Unnecessary buffs imo.
    He could really use a true overhead besides wheel kick and lariat really needs to hit behind.
    You are 100% right about the target combo. I literally only used it to frame trap/spd and punish during footsies. I also still do not understand why they didn't allow down LK to be cancelable, it's very strange. Still not seeing any changes to SA2 is kind of a let down as well.
    Not sure why Capcom feels the need to poop on grapplers so much, but we will persevere.

      I use it only on the corner for that throw loop, but that throw loop sucks real hard, as most characters have invincible stuff on wake up.

      There's no reason to use them. I don't think stomp 2 is going to change that.

    Something just feels wrong about an auto-timed OTG move being in Street Fighter. OTG moves are very very rare in Street Fighter. Zangief needs a close-up anti-air. Fix lariat. Make the instant air spd invulnerable to air attacks

    The only argument I can make for stomps is more meter build in combos. Which being honest Zangief needs more meter build and I GUESS doing one extra hit in a combo will tit for tat give slightly more meter. (Headbutt CH - hellstab - lariat VS Headbutt CH - stomp stomp - lariat)
    Besides that, and the meter gain from headbutt and it’s being +7 now, I really hope they fix giefs normals. It also looks like crouching heavy punch has less recovery.

    I was so hoping for good news today... maybe when the patch comes out there's gonna be hidden changes that weren't on the akuma trial thing...? it is still over a week away. capcom could surprise us.

    the cr hp routing is helpful I think just cause it gives the best of all worlds in one consistent option
    It does good damage, it gives good oki, it has good corner carry, it hits crouchers, it doesnt cost a lot of drive, it can route into super 1(i'm assuming lol) to cause burnout
    I agree it doesn't seem like a game changer type of thing, but it does seem like a nice perk regardless I think

      Someone mentioned it could've been added to help alleviate the combos for modern Zangief, and it makes a lot of sense to look at it that way. I believe giving 2hp a super cancel property would've been way better. Still, I'll try to see what can be done with this. It's underwhelming, though.

      It's very curious how they are handling the season 2. One thing that sticks out is the "don't touch Lily" rule. All of this is very bizarre.
