I just bought a 5th gen ipod classic. Currently, I own everything Apple that's recent, and the iPhone is fine and great at playing music on the go anywhere I want. But the iPod had something special. It gave you that real connection to music, of ownership. On my iPhone I have access to everything ever made, but on the iPod I have to actually curate what I own and what I want. It's a different experience that you have to have.

5th gen did have remote control support, but in a really awkward way. You'd buy the official Apple "iPod Radio Remote', which plugged into the dock connector. you'd then plug in your headphones in the Radio Remote (so the iPod's headphone connector would go unused). The iPod Radio Remote looked like a second generation iPod Shuffle with wires coming out of it. The control scheme was the same too. In addition, plugging in that remote unlocked the radio feature of the 5th gen iPod, allowing you to listen to FM radio broadcasts, but only with Apple ear phones plugged in (as they had a dedicated antenna wired incorporated into them that other headphone lacked).
i still have my 80g 5th generation that i FOUND laying in the street back in 2007. It was brand new the date stamped on it was 2007. It did freeze on me one time and i came here on youtube and found out how to fix the problem. So that's 5 years running with no problems. Just ordered new ipod touch 5th gen 64g.
You have a beautiful collection! I am a Click Wheel lover. The bests iPod I had were the Click Wheel ones (5th gen., 1st gen nano and 5th gen. nano). I also had a 1st gen. Shuffle, and two 1st. gen touch. Now a days I lost all of them :( hahaha In my opinion the Click Wheel is part of iPod identity and there's no better control for it. I hope Apple don't discontinue it!
OMG! When I was in Detroit, I found one on CraigsList and it was still new, not opened, in the sealed box! I wanted to get it but it was just too much! $250 ... Anyways! its 2022 now and i am still looking where to purchase these classic ipods with the click wheels (which was genius) these ipods are incomparable to the new MP3 players that have come out. it was all steve jobs. i wish apple did not discontinue these. i dont want to carry my heavy iphone 13 when doing my morning walk and listen to music.

@DetroitBORG Seeing the Apple stickers go would be sad... The Apple stickers were even around in the days of the Apple II in rainbow colors of course. I 'm trying to decide if taking away these accessories is just Apple being cheap, or if they are just saving packaging space and trying to make things more simple. Personally I liked getting a cleaning cloth and stand with my touch 1g, and it's sad to see that stuff go
Was just given one yesterday that was water damaged I took it apart cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and it works just need to order new casing for cosmetics and a battery
i just purchased an ipod video 5th gen this ipod on ebay Australia and i was lucky enogut to get it fully brand new.right now i'm also biding on an ipod touch 1st gen brand new and it is even sealed with clear plastic.
Did Apple discontinuing this one make it more expensive? Because I was looking into getting one and some cost around $500 which REALLY expensive. What was the original price?

Still have this iPod in black. The battery life is still decent and the hard drive hasn't failed yet and I still use it occasionally.

Just a quick note that not every 5th generation has a search feature. That was added on the 2006 models which people call a 5.5 gen

Apple discontinued all Ipod classics. now if you want an ipod you have to buy the Ipod touch which is like an iphone with no phone capabilities.
They also discontinued the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano

@SnowbossiTv just replace the lcd, there are websites out there that sell lcd's,battery replacements for your ipod.
First I found one in my closet. Then I put Rockbox on it. Now its my gameboy.
