If ya wanna save some real cash from hot dipping a pair of heads. Just use DOLLAR GENERAL OVEN CLEANER. You wont ever be sorry U did it... Works like a charm on the worst of it. Spray the ports in the heads and let the heads sit a day or 2 spray again if U are like me let em sit a few hours and use the pressure washer on em.. Even see the Cholo's doing it at the spray car washes now that folks got really greedy on the hot tank chemicals. WHERE THERE IS A WILL THERE IS A WAY.
The pump in the bucket circulates the water and glass bead media. I have a Y fitting so one hose agitates the media in the bucket, the other end goes to the spray nozzle.
Morning Brother Freedom!! Looking better but I’m just curious why instead of going through all of this effort and time of doing all this yourself on the heads, why didn’t ya just drop them by a good qualified machine shop that not only has the equipment to make those heads look like they just came out of an Edelbrock box but they can make sure they are true and flat, they have equipment with much better eyes than we do as evidenced by our gray beards so they can see tiny, tiny cracks that often are there if anyone ever ran that engine hot but are nearly impossible for us to see, they can do a good check on the seats, they can flow test them and see how much air is actually flowing thru them and see if they can handle the extra flow from a turbo with the current valve size etc. The cylinder head, as I’m sure your aware, is bout the most important part and piece as to how that engine is going to run and perform and there are so many little tweaks that can be made to valves, casting geometry etc to ensure the head is flowing up to its full potential which is critical to your performance of the entire engine, especially when you are building an engine for this application. Your basically working on the brain of the engine right there and it’s every bit as important as a brain! I know it’s your project and all brother, but the only way I Would do what your doing right now is if it were a set of heads that I’ve had on an engine I’ve owned and driven for the past ten years or so and I knew the complete history of them but even then, it’s a gamble. Just to drop a set of heads off and have em cleaned up to be like new, inspect em, bench check em, etc isn’t that expensive. Maybe a few hundred bucks to know what your dealing with cause if there’s any of the above issues there that you can’t see and you get completely built and running and you start running higher RPMs than what she’s ever been used to, that’s when these issues from above problems start showing up. Hopefully things will be ok but on stuff like this, I like knowing things will be ok!! (All above info is my opinion, only my opinion, and nothing but my opinion, so help me God! It in no way is meant to crucify our Brother of Freedom for expressing his opinion by doing what he has done. I forgive everyone for not knowing better if they’ve never been there before! May the Gods of Speed have mercy on his soul!)
Brother stay tuned, we got something special in store for ole Ugly Betty's engine! You are 100% correct, I was careful to only use a super fine #12 glass bead to not remove material but remove carbon and other freedom robbing boogers. Murica
Is it really necessary to clean the heads to new condition Really I just don’t see it is a benefit for the cost and labor Once engine starts it’s going to be back very quickly
Not truly necessary, but a great learning experience for myself. The engine I just dropped in the Caprice, I just did the basic seal and gaskets with no issues, not even a little smoke. These heads are going on a 408 stroker motor I am building, so I wanted them clean. Keep watching, I will get better at being sloppy. lol 🦅
WOW i cant believe how clean everything came out with the water blasting! it looked like you had the heads milled
Let's hope they hold!
Man Betty gonna b one HELL of a beast when she's done. Keep up the Living the dream good sir.
Awesome job. Great music selection .
mineral spirits is my favorite cleaner
Dang them are clean heads!
Looking good!
Always enjoy the time lapse so good 🍜🍜🍜🍜🍜
Nice work, I enjoyed your video.
🦅
Good job on the cleanup.
You made a nice Vapor Blaster there.
Thanks for sharing your hard work.
Just subscribed.
Take care, Ed.
Welcome aboard! 🦅
That Puddin’s Fab Shop arm swing….
One of my RUclips hero! Pot County Legend
I've heard the easy off oven cleaner also works but I have never tried it. They turned out great man
Thank you! I am going to put these heads on this summer so stay tuned for how they perform. Murica
Easy off is mediocre. Dollar Tree Oven Cleaner "scrub free" is the best. I have tried them all. Its cheap as well ($1.25) vs $5 for everything else.
Link to vapor blaster is broken. Can you share what unit that is?
Just a harbor freight sand blast cabinet, turned into a vapor blast cabinet.

How big is the sonic cleaner
I believe its a 30L
Is the water circulating or one use and its done? And same question for the media?

Lmao!!! So much freedom!
Question i have a ls 6.0 that im going to rebuild on budget but it has 260+000 miles on it. Should i replace my lifter rockers and springs
Yes. If you are going to rebuild it you might as well.
Spings yes, rocker arms I would inspect rocker arms, if they look and feel good, send it!
Sound the like old guy from ghost rider haha
