  • This video shows you how to move in for an attack but retreat quickly to dodge a possible counter attack, known as a 'hit and run' tactic. I show you some useful warm up games that help develop the footwork for this tactic. Also I show you a specific way of moving in to attack with a side kick and then retreat quickly.
This video is part of a series on sparring drills, where I suggest practice drills to improve sparring techniques, combinations, strategies, footwork etc. The sparring drills are mainly focussed on Taekwon-Do free-sparring but can also be used for kickboxing or any similar martial art.

Thank you so much Master Nardizzi, my whole family practices Taekwon-Do and we find your videos to be a great aid to our training outside of the Dojang.

The training exercises described here are marvelous and look as though they might be manageable even for lower grades. Clear, concise and well performed/shot - many thanks Sir.

Hi Sir. Would you consider a double step side kick and a skipping in side kick the same technique, or is there slight variations to both?

The Taekwon-Do enclopedia refers to this kind of movement as double stepping. It can be done with slower deliberate steps or very fast so it looks like you are skipping in. If you do it fast enough and kick before the step then technically it is a flying kick. There is a skip kick described in the encyclopedia but this more like a shift or hop with the rear leg as you kick with the front leg.
