I had a japanese copy of this game and its really hard to play when you cant read anything. The driving dynamics were kind of crappy but it looked so gorgeous. As far as looks go, i think this was the most visually appealing game ive ever played
You probably had US tuned version. They ruiend the handling in poor attempt at increasing difficulty compared to original release without touching the ai.

I have so many memories of playing this game late at night on my PS2. In fact, I remember when the online of this game was promoted when the whole internet “Expansion Bay” that you had to screw in to the back of your PS2. Good times.
Played on PS2 back in the day. Played great. You'd to get used to it's steering. With the cell shading I expected more burnout drift type steering but it's more grippy then that. Still not realistic but once you mastered it was lots of fun. Really enjoyed the twisty hill stages.
Man I grew up on xbox and have never owned a Playstation. Makes me want to pick up a ps2 just for this game to play it with some homies. It's too bad I didn't know about this back then when I was a kid cuz I feel the emptiness of a nostalgia I could have had from this game like I did with nfs underground 2
If you still have your xbox this was on it too. Or look into pcsx2 if you have any pc. I had an old pc with an i5-4500 motherboard and no graphics card, and it still emulated ps2 games pretty good
@@coreyhowe177most games tend to change things based on the country so the us version would have more American muscle cars and European sports cars, I don’t play this game but this is most likely the case
didn't this game have steering issues? Like cars would not centre and always forced minimum turn to left or right. Played it back then and remember this was what kept me away from it.

Game was ahead of its time, now cel shaded games are expensive.
I loved this. I had a Toyota celica all done up. Garage was full of all the collectable items. Loved the cell shaded style. My favourite racing game.

this game and ridge racer 4 are some of the visually aesthetics and good soundtracks racing games of the 2000s
I would like Ridge Racer to comeback in this style, earning Namco merch for your garage would be great

Price to get this used in the uk in a cex is cheaper than most new games so I'd say it's worth it
I love how cel shaded games still look so good. This was a game I missed as a kid. Gonna try out out soon with some Steamdeck emulation.

Honestly as a kid, I didn't even care about the racing. lol I just liked customizing the cars.

Play the Japanese version, they deliberately made the handling worse for the other versions.

As pleasing as the cell shaded graphics is, the controls on the other hand is terrible. It's pretty wonky to control the car you driving.
