As someone who has lived in China for many years, I find this hits my nostalgia HARD. There is something about ancient China that is so beautiful but has been lost in modern times. Nonetheless, there are remnants of ancient China still alive, and sometimes it is told through poetry, ancient artifacts, songs, stories, and through those who long for a time long gone. I was always searching for something when I lived in China, and it was not the modern lifestyle. It was something etched in the quiet rural mountains or gurgling stream of untouched land; a place enveloped in mythology and whispers of what has been now carried along the wind of time
i feel u. I've always been interested in World History and notice that us westerners ignore that China was the most powerful and influential country for a long stretch of modern civilization. The times, the battles, the drama, the art, the culture etc. Some of those battles/wars were magnitudes above western examples. The drama and history of it all is incredibly interesting.
@@Pat_Springleaf When you see the trailer, the devs doesnt make a big deal that the scope of development is so vast. Read the description, there is at least 2 games worth of features. It is hard to make it all work together.
Reminds me of these historical children's books I had where the artists drew whole pages of a city from ancient China, Paris, Rome and it had all of these little details to find

I may understand that you can be any role in an ancient China: farmer, merchant, solider, etc... Following each of those, your career will develop: you join army, achieve ranking, be issued house & land (building land), the you can be officer, joining the court. This world will be huge & the AI NPC & events are crazy.

What a beautiful art style. China's history and culture is second to none and now we have a Sims x Assassins Creed game around it. Looks very ambitious and if it delivers, it would be an absolute banger.

3:22 oh my god i appreciate that they modelled out the intricate details. Could be flat planes, but still, the silhouettes are modelled, and casts shadows! It’s not a big flat plane with baked normals and textures. ❤❤❤❤

It’s impossible to say at this point, of course you could be right, because often times that happens in these situations, however it could very well be amazing. Best thing to do is just keep expectations in check and hope for the best.
There are some gameplay concerns. Look at the scenes of the main character fighting an opponent. There is no back and forth. It's just the main character hacking away. And the stealth segments seem far too easy. It's a work in progress, so maybe these get tightened up. As a big wuxia fan, I want this to be good, but I will wait and see.
Ambitious but ambition is whats needed desperately in gaming right now. Looking forward to this. Also I have a feeling this is going to be absurdly CPU intensive, this is a lot of simulation and entities.

Also, the style of calligraphy shown at 1:29 was of Qi Gong, a contemporary calligrapher who was not alive at the time when the cultural forms represented by these visuals were prevalent, I assume around Tang Dynasty: 618-907 ce.
VERY unique combination of genres here. Stunning very clean visuals too. Love to see experimental stuff like this. I would nearly buy to support even if its not my thing lol.
At first, I thought it was some type of The Sims style, or strategy with building systems, then turned into action, then reminded me of GTA, them there's some stealth, then puzzle and adventure, then fighting, then supernatural. I don't know if the game has some identity crisis, but I just hope it's a very good and fun game. The art style totally rocks!
chinese seems to always have these identity crisis issue. from their media to modern lifestyle etc. aside from the ancient chinese theme cliche, chinese modern entertainment produce nothing original. That's what happen when they ditched their culture and then adopt communism. communism makes them very practical but soulless because everything needs to be ultra efficient.
Like really, what game is it? I should play this game in what mood? To me it seems to be better if they found one strong identity with add-on like mercenary simulator with base building or something than smearing it so thin. Good luck anyway

Always for richly detailed isometric CRPGs. Personally prefer a more gritty BG1/2 claymation look than this plainer painterly style but it looks great so far. This looks to be part of the new genre of open world game dev in China where there's a massive procedurally generated world filled with things to collect and do, but those are a challenge to keep from getting repetitive. Need good storylines and branching options in the mix too.
1990's, 2000's can be said to be the decades of Japanese and of Western Devs too of course. Looks like Chinese devs are gonna dominate or at least do great things in the coming decades!
Gives me hope that I see jank in some places (NPCs standing still and not reacting to events) so that it looks like an actual game and not a pure hype building trailer.

The main contribution comes from the magnificent animation of characters, the movement is so realistic, even with their clothes. Never seen any other games accessed this level.
I find it funny that they have a building sim and expect the players to automatically build in the appropriate style/theme. Because if it was me, I'd probably build it and make it look like a regular apartment/flat/house you see around in the modern age.
The details and art style are so fascinating only an Asian artist could manage that. Also the interactions in every scene seems to be well-mastered. Just the name of this game is just very well-chosen. High hopes for this one.
The touch of philosophical elements and ponderance of life at the end show depth or at least some effort in blending in something more metaphysical to not only immerse but elevate players conscious while playing this game. Maybe I'm reading too much but this is definitely a new trend.

Same, I've been wishing for a new remake of it. But If you looking for similar gameplay, there is a game called Citadelum that was released in May 2024, and has a very similar playstyle to Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom but it is set in Rome Empire, instead of China.
If this was 2022 I would be skeptical of what Chinese Devs can deliver, but after seeing Black Myth Wukong and how they delivered what they promised and more, showing that the trailer is not just a fancy video gimmick, I am positive of this game. Definitely a will buy for me after 2 weeks of release.
Looks pretty sweet. I hope they improve the AI though so that they can properly chase you through the streets. The NPC in this video saw him turn right in front of him but just kept on trucking forward. Maybe there could be things in the street like tables or bamboo that you can use to knock over to slow down the NPCs or something.

No main storyline, it's basically a sandbox game . However, some side quests have own stories.
It’s less CRPG and more akin to Mount and Blade, it’s a sandbox game.
This has the same "wait, there's more" factor that Crimson desert does.

I've been loving building games recently. Games like this, Madori No Kaori and Tiny Glades have been super fun to play especially at my old age.

I used to play Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom all the time back in the day and have been DYING for something new like it.

Same, I've been wishing for a new remake of it. But If you looking for similar gameplay, there is a game called Citadelum that was released in May 2024, and has a very similar playstyle to Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom but it is set in Rome Empire, instead of China.

If this was 2022 I would be skeptical of what Chinese Devs can deliver, but after seeing Black Myth Wukong and how they delivered what they promised and more, showing that the trailer is not just a fancy video gimmick, I am positive of this game. Definitely a will buy for me after 2 weeks of release.
I hope these has a good simulation about each character can generate like dialogues and conversations on what they on do.

I've had this game on my wishlist for a while and i'm am super excited to play this when it comes out.
Looks pretty sweet. I hope they improve the AI though so that they can properly chase you through the streets. The NPC in this video saw him turn right in front of him but just kept on trucking forward. Maybe there could be things in the street like tables or bamboo that you can use to knock over to slow down the NPCs or something.
