if you want 120hz passtrhough it means your tv is capable of 120hz, in this case why complain about it, you can connect your device directly to the tv then to the soundbar.
second why you need 120hz? for gaming on a console? inly a handfull of games suport it with downtuned graphics, for pc gaming you don't buy a tv.

Agree 100% with your analysis of the situation between the two. I have owned the q990B for about a year now and love it. Unlike so many others, I’ve had zero issues with dropouts. Love the ease of setup and pairing of speakers. Sounds great with Blu-ray’s and videostreaming. A little less great with streaming music, but still more than serviceable. I really enjoy running my Apple TV through it and using the remote to turn the sound up and down without that annoying gigantic volume slider on the side of the tv screen. No way I’d buy the 990C as Best Buy has the “B” for under $700. I don’t use mine much with Q Symphony

I'm used to my 6.1 surround system and my brother in law got a Q990B a few weeks ago so he wanted to show it off to me.
It's really loud and the subwoofer is decent but I could tell that there was no front left and right speakers. It sounded like there was just the soundbar under his projector screen and a pair of surround speakers. There was no width to the front audio.

I wonder how much, if any, of these software improvements could be available as firmware updates to the Q990B and even earlier sound bars. In the recent past, I had no expectations of Samsung to make any meaningful firmware improvements, even those they seemed to have promised since none were ever forthcoming. But last summer my 2019 Q90R (TV) was updated to support both Atmos and eARC. Way to go. So maybe some features could be upgraded on the Q990B, as well?

I doubt they'll bring these updates to the Q990B otherwise people won't want to upgrade to the Q990C (not that people are going to upgrade. I'm not sure how much of this is purely a software upgrade over the Q990B or actually requires different components in the bar to get it working.

THANK YOU. I'm in the market for a new soundbar/home theater speaker set up and have been doing the research and have set on the Q990B but was holding out to see what may be new with the Q990C. I'm in "Samsung" home, however, the new TV coming in probably won't be. So your features listed in the 2023 model may be moot. HATE that Samsung may be going this way where equipment may be brand dictated. One of the biggest reasons I ditched Sony. They only provide merchandise that is compatible with their own stuff.
In any event, will give this model a pass and opt for 2022 version. BTW, to any of your subscribers in Australia, JB-HIFI (as of the time of this post) has the Q990B on sale for $700 bucks off for $1399. Probably in a flash sale to clear the inventory out in prep for the Q990C. Go for it.

Thanks man! The Q990B is an awesome Soundbar. So long as it doesn’t give you dropouts you’ll have a weapon of a sound system! What brand of TV do you think you’ll get?

@@archwaytech Thankfully the room being used for the home theater is wide, but reasonably narrow. 10 to 12 feet from screen location to sofa. So hopefully rear speakers are close enough to avoid drop outs (heard that from more than one source this is an issue, so it is a concern).
Currently my two top pics based on research, features and value are:
      1. TCL 98" C735 QLED (2021) (Yes, HUGE, and sure a 2 year old model as of this post probably not the most wanted for newest and best, but the 2022 version didn't have much beneficial upgrades, 2023 is still a question), but for the current price, features and overall picture performance it seems to be a front runner for the most bang for the buck. For us in Australia, currently $5995 AUD, however saw it drop by $1000 over Christmas, but wasn't ready for it then. Slap myself now.
      2. Samsung 85" Q60B QLED (2022) - This one I've also researched and is a great TV for the buck. Great reviews, great picture. Currently in Australia as of this post, JB-hifi has it for $5596. Such a bargain for the quality and size.
Both deep level blacks, low blurring, awesome color...with brightness adjusting ability for the room they're placed in.
I've got the room and definitely want to go for size as I've never had that option before in previous places I've lived before, so want to take advantage. I truly believe my place is in that "sweet spot" where you can get away with a bigger TV and still enjoy it not being too weird being TOO big. I've mapped out the screen size on my living room wall, along with the TV console space needed underneath, just to see and get a feel if it's too big...and nope, I'm good with it.
Anyhoo, you asked, those are my current front runners. ;) Thanks for your response.

    • @archwaytech
      @archwaytech  Год назад +2

The 98 inch is tempting for it's size but TCL TV's use really cheap materials and I'm really not a fan. I used to install TV's for a living and I always dreaded installing them as their operating system is slow and they run dual OS- TCL's own OS and Google TV over the top which is such a pain to get around because you're constantly having to know which OS a particular setting is in. If I was you, I'd go for the 85 inch Q60B which is a great TV even though it's Samsung's entry level QLED, save a couple thousand dollars and pair it with a Q990B. You can't go wrong with that setup. 85 inches is still massive!!

@@archwaytech Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Still a few months away until I'm ready to purchase, so I still have time to make a final decision and/or something even better may show itself at a great deal in the interim. Cheers and thanks again for the feedback. BTW...and just like that the 98" TCL (same model and year) just went up in price by $3000 since yesterday. WTF? Now $8995. Guess stock must be getting low after running the sale price so now they can jump the price back up again. Just a reminder, when seeing a deal, best to grab it when you can.
In any event, the 85" Samsung listed above is looking MUCH more attractive now. lol

Based on reviews, which I am sure is accurate, I ordered the Q990C. I regret doing so. Not because of the product. I can't comment on the product. Because Samsung has not delivered. And are now playing games on delivery. On three occasions they have told me to wait home for it. I have been told it can't be left with the building security guard. Each time it does not come. Each time I reach out they say they are looking into it and to wait another 48 hours. They won't cancel and refund unless i provide information that is not available without a trip to the bank. What is it like when there is a problem with one of their products? If you can't buy it off a shelf somewhere you may regret your purchase as I am. You should probably be more concerned with the burn in issue that the LG OLED TV's have. Mine lasted less than 6 months before it got serious image retention under normal usage (NO static images were left on the screen for extended periods). There's a reason LG specifically excludes image retention (aka burn in) in their warranty for OLED TV's. The only reason I got mine replaced was because I used the Geek Squad at Best Buy to set it up. Otherwise, mine would have had to go to the dumps.

I have the HW-Q950A which I love. I also have the LG S95QR which is really good also. I will be getting the Q990C so I'm looking forward to the 3-way comparison.

The timbre from the TV drivers will sound different to that from the soundbar since they're completely different, which will create an incoherent general tone. This is a gimmick targeted to lure customers to buy more of their TVs.

I bought the Q990C and I am not impressed at all. No matter what settings I use you can barely hear the rear speakers, and I do mean barely, like get your ear 2 inches from the speaker, and listen closely, because it's still hard to hear. Several 5.1 blows this over priced paper weight out of the water
