      The lack of 2.1 is "not a problem" at all if you have a TV with 2.1.
      You need a GPU with at least 2 HDMI ports. What I do with my PC is to send an HDMI 2.1 to the tv, and another HDMI cable to the soundbar. The only "complicated" thing is you having to send another cable from soundbar to another, in my case tiny 7" monitor. In such configuration, both, Windows and GPU think your soundbar is a second display. You should only use the "extend these displays" setting. Only con, sometimes a program will only open in the tiny screen, and you'll have to drag it to the tv screen. But hey, that way I can always get the best video and audio at the same time.

    This soundbar is phenomenal. I have a full blown home theater, but when listening to regular tv or streaming I do now want to fire up the home theater. I can fully state that this soundbar can replace most peoples dedicated home theater system. It is unbelievable the clarity, transparency, depth and the amazing surround effects; it is seamless all around you with no breaks in sound front/back. The width is as wide as your walls, I have heard sound coming from everywhere. Bass is more than adequate and blends seamless with the main speakers. Note, I installed with the sub port facing me. The processing power and ai to coordinate 21 amps is remarkable. No snaps when I switch between apps. Only downside is no documentation, even on-line manual is sparse info...have to rely on discussion groups. There are steps left out that is crucial in getting the eArc hdmi and soundbar to work. It cannot get better considering its compact size. As usual, top consistant review from you and Kristy.

      @LoganScottY Месяц назад

      @@leeskelton9715 I did actually fix it. I turned most of the channels down by a lot and then raised the main volume up and increased the centre channel a little bit, however if you're not watching Atmos content then I think the dialogue won't be as sharp on older sound mixes. That being said I was very happy with the changes I made. Dialogue sounds a lot better for older mixes like 5.1

    I bought this back in july 2023 after much research.. at first the app was a bit sketchy. It would often disconnect and then i would have to go thru the whole setup process again.. a few updates later and the app barely disconnected. When it does disconnect now, it will automatically connect and i wont have to go thru the setup process again. Loving this soundbar. The bass is perfectly fine. Im also using it in a small room.

    Great review!
    My brother-in-law just purchased the 990C along with a 2023 Samsung TV. Something to note - I wasn't able to get q-symphony working via the wireless connection - had to be wired via HDMI to activate that feature. I didn't spend a ton of time with his setup, but I could barely tell when q-symphony was activated let alone that it made a significant impact.

    We just got one and I absolutely love it. I have never heard a sound bar setup that sounds this close to a traditional surround setup. My only complaint is the display on the front of the sound bar is unusable being so small and being behind the grill mesh. We have it paired with a q900c and the pair sounds awesome.

    I've had several soundbars and surround sound package but it was only when I purchased an AVR and a pair of stereo speakers did I realise what I was missing (stereo imaging, thumping bass, fully enveloping soundstage etc) besides going down this route one can always add to it overtime... surround speakers, subwoofers one can even get height speakers and experience a real non-virtual Dolby Atmos experience. Something IMO upward-firing speakers can't cut. Nowadays AVRs are so simple to setup they even walk you through the process.
    Remember our ears follow our eyes to where the story lives.

    If this is helpful to anyone. Bought this soundbar for a small room. Rear speakers are great don’t necessarily have to have them behind you, just angled them towards my position more. Elevated the sub on a chest of drawers with the acoustic lens pointed towards me. Dolby Atmos sounds great. Until I elevated the sub I was disappointed with the bass, now it sounds fantastic. Hobbit and Lord of the rings sound great with it. Put sub to +3 and increase bass to 2, use space fit by activating the mic then turn space fit on. Then you’re good to go. Probably better in a large room but I’m more than happy with it.

Looking at the frequency response, the dip from 220hz to 700hz looks like it won't make music mids sound "full" or male vocals have warmth. Just because dialogue is crisp and clear doesn't mean it doesn't need body

    Just picked up a 77" Samsung S90C and now in the market for a better home theater system. Going back and forth between the Q990C and the Sonos Arc + Sub. Each of them has their pros for my use case, I totally like the expandability of the Sonos system and I've read that adding 2 Era 300's to the system is game changing, however I the investment is much larger. I like that this combined with my Samsung tv would make the system even better and obviously the price difference is a huge factor as well. I've seen the Q990C drop to $839.99 multiple times in the last month with EPP so I'm having such a hard time deciding right now.

      Exactly same here, while I have LG C1 65’ instead. The Q990C is now on sale, originally price is 16 000 NOK, but now 10 000 NOK. I like the idea of the sonos arc, but god damn what a expensive and slow-paced «investment» it must be. The arc itself is basically the price for this badboy on sale, so for me it’s a no-brainer; I’m getting Q990C. While the multiroom option with sonos seems so smooth, I just dont think it will be worth it, and therefore I’ll rather get this one instead, and just use a solid wireless speaker for kitchen, bathroom or bedroom as I like. I belive that is the most rational solution.

      I have the same TV only 65" and 990c. Connecting the thing is simple as TV recognizes it. Smartthing controls are awesome although sometimes it stops working and the soundbar requires to be removed and added back. Perhaps, that though, could be attributed to my router.
      The sound is simply amazing for both: music and movies in my opinion.

      I also got the 77" Samsung S90C this summer (on sale) and I got the Q990C now on BF for ~$990. For me it came down to compability with the TV (less cables and remotes) as well as the "sound quality for the buck" even if this is a finite system and with sub par estetics.

    I see a lot of comments/questions regarding high ceilings. Andrew does address this sort of in this video, in that these soundbars with upward and side firing drivers are dependent on walls and ceilings to get the full benefit because the sound needs to bounce off. I personally wouldn't weigh height channels/effects heavily because a lot of movie mixes just aren't well done and most of us don't have perfectly square rooms.

    I fully respect everything you both do. You have so much to try and remember to put in these videos and you do such a great job. There is no way you could anticipate every question we might throw at you. Also, neither of you are pinching pennies for equipment, nor lack the ability to a/b equipment, so I fully understand why you didn't/couldn't anticipate the question I have. I hope you see this and are able to address it, if possible. So...I love everything you've said about the q990c, and it is now at the top of my wish list after watching this, and other reviews. Now I just need to somehow save the money. My question is about building your own system, with AVR, speakers, etc. compared to the q990c. I heard Andrew say that he would go with AVR/speakers for music, and I'm glad to know that, but my question is in regards to movies only, in order to make an apples to apples comparison. The AVR market is vast and daunting in cost and specs. So......in regards to making as identical a sound as possible, for movies, in ATMOS, number of channels and overall quality and experience... how much would it cost to build a system that is legitimately comparable to the q990c in sound, for home theater use? It would also be nice to know the number of channels an AVR would need in order to compete toe to toe with the q990c. Could a person save money and get equally good movie quality sound by buying an AVR and speakers? After watching this review, it appears to me that the q990c is not only the easiest, but also the least expensive way to get a really, really good ATMOS/movie theater experience at home, but I'd hate to go the wrong direction because of my lack of understanding something that may be obvious to others. If you can answer, I thank you very much.

    • @asphodyn
      @asphodyn 8 месяцев назад

      The downside of the soundbar system is that you can only do so much with digital signal processing. Ultimately there are some hard constraints set by the size of the drivers used in terms of sound, and the limited number of speaker locations used in terms of soundstage and localization. For the money, the soundbar system is still hard to beat though. If you go the receiver route, you'd probably want to start with a 2.0 system and then add a subwoofer, center, surrounds, Atmos/heights, etc. That way you can slowly build a quality system that makes the hassle and expense of going the separates route worth it. Something solid like an Arendal 1961 5.2.4 might cost you over $10k in the end. You also have to be willing to spend some time to dial in your system. So it's more of a process and different mindset.

      I'm also a little torn between Adaptive and surround but I've left it in Adaptive atm. Remember that adaptive is the least correct mode but probably gives the best 3D illusion. Surround is closer to standard and plays the way the filmmaker wants the sound to play. But with all speakers on. Quick comparison, Surround has better surround all the time, more accurate and better volume balance. Adaptive is more front heavy at times but uses more of a 3D illusion, plays more from the rear depending on where objects are in the picture, less accurate tho and volume balance is more dynamic. It can get high when alot of action happens on the screen and low when nothing happens. Only thing I don't like with adaptive is that it can sound a little too much treble. Then surround is alot better, sounds less upmixed.

      I have an
      Earc 2.1 and it in earc port. I was thinking since the TV doesn't use 2.1. I would need to change it?

    • @mitikaization
      @mitikaization 7 месяцев назад

      @@darrylchristian653, the approach is simple. if you have a device that outputs Dolby Atmos and you want your soundbar to have that sound, you connect the soundbar to the tv using the e-ARC HDMI port on the tv. The other device can be connected to any other HDMI ports on the tv and it will passthrough Atmos to the soundbar

    Can somebody explain how HMDI 2.0 instead of 2.1 is holding it back? I’m not understanding. My tv has a refresh rate of 120hz, so if I’m watching tv with audio coming thru the soundbar, is my soundbar limiting my tv to 60 hz? My game systems are connected straight to my tv, not the soundbar.

    • @starsky8351
      @starsky8351 3 месяца назад +6

      If your gaming system(s) are connected direct to your TV then assuming that you TV can go up to say 120, or 144hz then you are unaffected by the soundbar HDMI 2.0 limitation (sound will be sent to the soundbar via ARC OR eARC). If your gaming system(s) were to be connected directly to the soundbar then it would become a limitation and you woukd be stuck at 4k/60hz. Hope this helps

      the idea is connecting the ps5 to soundbar with hdmi 2.1 will give you the 4k 120 passthrough VRR ALLM so you wouldn't lose any graphical punch and you'd have no audio latency (or the least amount) than going to the TV

      I'm not 100% sure if the 990b review here has a frequency response graph but I think they did present one, so, you put one and the other on your screen, you compare and try to equalize the b to better correspond with the C. mind you that we can't select which kinds of filters the eq is doing, but I think is just simple adjustment so go easy on it, but shouldn't be too difficult

    I have a Vestel 75ud9650 75'' television and a Samsung HW-Q990b soundbar (unfortunately, there is no Atmos feature in the settings).
    I don't know much. There are earc inputs on the TV and the soundbar. Do you think I can get clear and clean sound if I connect it with an HDMI cable or an optical cable? Can I benefit from Atmos sound even if Atmos sound is not on the TV? I don't know exactly what Atmos sound is like.
    There is also a PCM passthrough sound setting on the television, which one should it be?
    thank you for the video
