I wonder if you could run a 990D along with another 950 5.1 system. If you are allowed to have 2 wireless devices. Lose the picture frame and use two soundbar system?
BC and D are basically the same bars with similar quality. But I have heard that the B model had some intermittent wireless connection issues with the rear surround speakers. You might want to go for the C.
@@brucesmith1754 the most negative experiences will inspire people to make reviews more often. I've never noticed disconnection issues, but I wouldn't say the surrounds are fantastic to begin with. I'm not sure if they even sell the B anymore but if it were between the C and D, you might as well get D. And of course, if I want more speakers I'd be better off investing in home theatre than buying the same soundbar again.

So my soundbar manufacturer is now in the habit of putting many improvements behind a software update they could probably give me for free, but instead will only give me if I pay another couple grand for those minimal improvements, thus making them now much like my graphics card manufacturer restricting some driver improvements to their latest gen. cards. I'm starting to see the future of electronics in general.... ;)
Apple on the same boat here. I have the Q990C and its 99% the same as the Q990D. "Took them a year" to add full HDMI 2.1, which couldve been added easily to the Q990C.

@@originalmagnetoI know the feeling man. My wife HATES sound systems and to this day, I will never ever understand. She's happy with just the internal speaker of our QM8. Thankfully, by agreeing to downsize my traditional 5.1.2 AVR (had large speakers), and the Q990D was on sale, I was able to convince her. Wasn't easy. But worth it!
I'd just like to ask, the difference between the C and D is primarily the HDMI 2.1 passthrough for gaming consoles, What benefit does it offer when I can just connect a PS5 to the TV via eArc and the Q990C to the TV via optical?
Have you seen a feature in advanced settings called VIRTUAL? not sure how it impacts sound when surround/adaptive is on. seems like it doesn’t do anything. It showed up when I updated firmware on the D
Excellent review!!! Can you purchase the surroundsound speakers separately for the C or D and use them for 2 front channels?? One huge downside is the hdmi ports, they are on the side of the cut out and you have to bend the hdmi cables in a bad way in order to get the wires to go in the proper place. Samsung should’ve moved the port so the hdmi wires go straight out the back
On the Q900c with the SWA-9500S addon speakers, Samsung appears to have removed the option for surround speaker mode selection (front/rear) in the app. It used to be there before v1004 firmware update. The Q900c has the same soundbar & subwoofer as the Q990c from looking at the specs.
Disappointed we're not getting more from this soundbar setup. I put off getting the C because i figured they'd do a skip year or something, 1 year is minor tweaks (the c) and the next year we'd get major changes (the d). I don't have any surround sound right now and I'm sure either the C or D would be a great addition, I just know as soon as I buy it, they'll announce big changes on the next one :(
Around 8:34 in the Audio Codecs section you say something like "All the formats can be delivered wirelessly to the soundbar from 2022 and newer high-end Samsung TV's ...". Since Samsung TV's don't support DTS audio wouldn't that mean only Dolby formats can be delivered wirelessly?
The "990C" is now $899 now on Amazon! Just grabbed one to replace my Sony ST-5000 (2020) that I’ve never been impressed by. NOTE: Beach Camera (the seller on Amazon with the deal) just shipped me the 990D vs the C! Now that’s a deal… YMMV but saw a similar review/comment posted and was skeptical until it showed up at my door!
I don’t know if the q-symphony feature (pairing soundbar with TV speakers) is working or not. Here’s why, when I originally purchased and setup the Q990D with my TV (Samsung S90C) it displayed *TV AND Q Symphony* when changing the volume. After a month or so, I noticed it just shows solely *Q Symphony* when changing the volume. I ran the gamut troubleshooting with a Samsung tech, but we were unable to fix the issue. I’m wondering if there even is an issue because the soundbar is outstanding. Its only because this Q Symphony feature was advertised, do I really care.
The Bose and Sonos nearly nail it with sound from movies to music. I have the Q990C and Sonos Arc. I prefer the Sonos sound quality; all speakers are on point, especially the Sonos Sub Gen 3, which hits lows as low as 25 hertz.
I have a2022 Samsung tv S95B and just purchased the 990D I realized S95B only output adaptive sound+ not space Fit sound pro my question is there a major difference between the two before I upgrade my tv to a 2024?
I recently try to buy a refurbished q990b from amazon since it was less than $1000 and mind you its my first time buying a refurbished product from amazon. But anyway, used some gift cards and my total came out to around 500. It said it would arrive in ten days but to my surprise it arrived in 3 days and also to my surprise they sent me a new q990d. Go figure 😅.
I’m currently putting the Sony Quad through its paces and I am curious if the bar 9 with the highest tier rears and bass unit outshines the Q900 series … the new bars are up for pre-order
i am a little lost in the UK some say chromecast isn't available. anyone know why? this is the best video i have watched very informative, one small thing it would have been good to hear the same audio clip played on both instead of switching between. i am brand new to this so i have a fresh perspective and not much understanding but i thought the frame tv was a large long picture frame, this would make more sense if it had two speakers built in and lived flat against wall ascetically and you could use it behind the sofa maybe above the fireplace in the location suggested in vid. i am probs wrong.
I own the Q990D and must say I love it. Even though I downgraded in speakers from a 5.1.2 AVR setup, I feel feel like I upgraded in immersion sound. Despite "down sizing". I own a 85" TCL QM8 (2023), so I'm never going to have that Q-symphony feature, but I find space fit and adaptive sound mode work excellent. Regarding your comment about the Dragon system, of course it's going to be better. It costs twice as much with twice the power. Even on sale. I do have a question for anyone cuz I've only had my bar a week now. How is everyone adjusting their channel levels? Any obvious like make heights louders, etc? Also, thanks for mentioning the music frame. Going to try the center middle idea when the price comes down from $400. Maybe prime day. Will the setup work without a Samsung TV? Great video! Very informative!
Do you know if you can tie these into other architectural speakers around the house? Meaning in ceiling speakers in the kitchen or back porch. Would love to have the soundbar play the same as the other spaces when needed.
By the way I can confirmed from another link video that shows the audio board on the C of last year is the board in the D. So as far as improvement there has no changed at all regarding sub on the latest model for 2024.
I wish for the next generation they will extend channel counts providing seperate speaker placement for surrounds , like 13.2.6 then samsung would be the king of soundbars
I have a large room with 9 ft ceilings. The room is about 18 ft x 30 ft. The sound system I buy will used mainly music, second youtube, then movies. I am concerned that sound bar will need to be to load to enjoy. Any thoughts?
I switched from the HW-Q950T to a new 990C (850 euros). A really good exchange BUT what Samsung could really score points with is if they made the whole system modular. Buy the sound bar for say 600 euros / dollar, buy the package with sub and 2 surrounds for 1000 euros / dollar AND THEN you can buy additional surrounds for the sides or front wide. The soundbar works very well but sometimes I wish there was an optional pair for the sides. If the sound bar recognizes that you have added two more speakers, new settings etc. will appear. Yes it would reduce the simplicity of the system somewhat but this would only be optional
@@matsthunblad The connection is better, the sound is better, the design is better. Add to that. 2 additional speakers in the rears. A much better product for me.
In the latest update of the soundbar and music frame (using as a center rear), they improved the wireless connection or still the same with intermittent drops? Greetings

It makes the bass louder - not terribly sophisticated but maybe is what needed by a customer by customer basis
Great review! You are hilarious!
Quite kind … Thanks!
23:46 Every year since the Q950A, Samsung has dropped the price of this system to around $800 with their discount programs. I want this for gaming so I'll wait til then.
I didn't expect to get a lot of laughs on a soundbar review like this.
Very serious topic … you shouldn’t be laughing
Love this channel, and his dry whit 🙂
Appreciated!
Great review, great soundbars. I just think it lacks some bass. Does it sync and play 2 subwoofers at once, since it's wireless?
No. one sub for you (and everyone else)
Great review, great channel! Although I already purchased the HT-A9 (based on your recommendation, however, I’m still without a sub), I always enjoy your videos. Thanks!
You really need a sub to unlock that system
@@neverenoughtech I know man, but my GF is very opposed to this. I had to buy the ht-a9 in secret and rely on her just accepting it. It was hard, she was very very angry with me 😬 I was on the verge of purchasing it during a great sale (429€) but did not pull the trigger. I might this summer thou
@@alfredsnyder329 good for you brother 👍👍👍
I'd just like to ask, the difference between the C and D is primarily the HDMI 2.1 passthrough for gaming consoles, What benefit does it offer when I can just connect a PS5 to the TV via eArc and the Q990C to the TV via optical?
Atmos, Dolby Vision and DTSX don't work over optical
@@boardindoors3274 didn’t know that. Thanks!
Samsung should’ve moved the port so the hdmi wires go straight out the back
No, there is no practical or official way to have front and rear left and right
On the Q900c with the SWA-9500S addon speakers, Samsung appears to have removed the option for surround speaker mode selection (front/rear) in the app.
I don't have any surround sound right now and I'm sure either the C or D would be a great addition, I just know as soon as I buy it, they'll announce big changes on the next one :(
I am wondering how the D compares to the HW-Q90R (which i own). It's a couple of generations newer, so i am curious.
Great video. Bopping sealed it for me.
Same
Around 8:34 in the Audio Codecs section you say something like "All the formats can be delivered wirelessly to the soundbar from 2022 and newer high-end Samsung TV's ...". Since Samsung TV's don't support DTS audio wouldn't that mean only Dolby formats can be delivered wirelessly?
Samsung Q990D and JBL bar 1300, which one is the better option to pick?
Great work. Phenomal work, actually. Love the humor... unless you are not trying to be funny 😏
There are no funnies to be had in this business
The "990C" is now $899 now on Amazon! Just grabbed one to replace my Sony ST-5000 (2020) that I’ve never been impressed by.
NOTE: Beach Camera (the seller on Amazon with the deal) just shipped me the 990D vs the C!
Now that’s a deal… YMMV but saw a similar review/comment posted and was skeptical until it showed up at my door!
If the Q990C and Q990D are the same price, which one would be wise to choose?
I like the C sound marginally more - the D has more features (chromecast HDMI 2.1) - so which matters more
@@neverenoughtechI don't play games. Do I need an hdmi 2.1 cable even if I'm only watching 4K videos?
Great video as always
To me the #1 soundbar feature is great dialog. I had the Sonos, sounded amazing until the actors started to speak
What Sonos did you have?
@@jeffhardy3x ARC and Sub. I 100% guarantee the ARC 2 will have much needed improved dialog. I’m very happy with the Boss Ultra, Sub and Rear
Go figure 😅.
same here, bought a 990C for $800 and got the 990D.
@@mrfumetsuwho was the seller? Gonna see if i can do the same lol

Wow, great info.i don't need the pass thru and your video clearly saves me 1000 bucks. Is the Sony system sound better or is a better option?
Is the 990D worth the upgrade over an old 5.1 Martin Logan speaker system w/Yamaha receiver?
Best sound system channel on RUclips.
Hi man, nice work as always. I would suggest Samsung must use the WiSa technology in future for their wireless technology to solve drop outs.
Yeah surprised that hasn’t taken off more than it has
Do you know if you can tie these into other architectural speakers around the house? Meaning in ceiling speakers in the kitchen or back porch. Would love to have the soundbar play the same as the other spaces when needed.
You can get a streamer with optical out from Arylic … or embrace the Roon ecosystem
Thanks very much for the excellent analysis.
Question: did you use the latest firmware V1004 on the Q990C?
Not sure how much different the D vs C firmware is, but as of 7/14/24, it's version 1013.2
Great job, real reviews. Do you or anyone know the name of the movie clip during the codec support part of the review? Sci-Fi Fantasy?
It’s a pretty famous movie titled “PS5 commercial”
@@neverenoughtech LOL, thanks for the quick reply, it would make a great movie I think. Love your dry wit and delivery.
Great review ❤
Thank you much!
By the way I can confirmed from another link video that shows the audio board on the C of last year is the board in the D. So as far as improvement there has no changed at all regarding sub on the latest model for 2024.
I had JBL 9.1 soundbar a recently i bought 990c.
Short version: bass better in jbl, atmos in 990c
How do these Samsung soundbar systems compare to the Sony Bravia Quad (with sub) for strictly home theater viewing (limited music)?
if you had to choose between this one or sonos beam (2nd generation), sub mini and 2x era 100, what would you choose?
Hi, I have the Q950T and thinking of trading up to 950c. Did you notice a big difference?
@@matsthunblad I don't know the 950c, if you just made a mistake and you meant the 990c, then the difference is huge
@@feldartillerie1620 i made a mistake 🙃 yes I mean 990c. So it's a noticeable difference? I think I need to change 😊
@@matsthunblad The connection is better, the sound is better, the design is better. Add to that. 2 additional speakers in the rears.
A much better product for me.
In the latest update of the soundbar and music frame (using as a center rear), they improved the wireless connection or still the same with intermittent drops?
Greetings
