I actually bought this to replace my Samsung Q950T and I couldn't be happier with the choice. The Q950T was good for a few years, and still wins in the depth and width sound department (with rears detached, with rears attached, not by much at all) but the random disconnects of speakers, random crackling in rears due to wifi channels interference and the stupid display on top always drove me nuts. The 10" on the 9.1 is no slouch at all, this thing is just as boomy but clearer. So now, I'm rockin the 1300x upstairs (large, open concept living room) and still hanging with the JBL 9.1 downstairs. Good afternoon (EST)! Thank you for this review. I struggle with soundbars because I feel as if great movie making and story telling disappeared during the pandemic. So my movie watching has become more limited in scope. However, I'm still big on watching big movies (i.e., Top Gun, Avatar). I just tend to watch episodic material more (i.e., Star Trek [Paramount], Star War [any series]). Hence, spending big on a soundbar doesn't make sense to me. So, I appreciate the fact that you compared more cost effective options - as well as providing an option for The Sevens (which I may prefer). One more thing: Thanks for having the courage to call out the crappy products for what they are. You don't gloss over the obvious. That's great and respected. Thanks for a great Sunday afternoon my friends!
Thanks, DaWayne. I'm more of an episodic fan myself these days. My tastes run the gamut from shows like Shrinking to Rabbit Hole. Have a great weekend.
Great review. There is no doubt sound bars fill a niche. Nice they are easy to set up and use but surprisingly to me that some are so good. We live in an ere of great sound. A fun time.
Thanks for the review! Love the content and the dialogue you both offer. Can you do a worth it style video? Comparing three systems at three different price ranges and seeing which one is worth it? Or a video on systems at different price brackets that punch above their weight? Either way, looking forward to more content
Respectively, how did you connect to this system when testing music? I get a similar symptom with my Bar 9.1 when played from my Firecube > TV > bar via eARC. It sounds “boxed.” However, once directly connected from my phone via Bluetooth, it sound phenomenally balanced and harmonically pleasant; let alone the inevitable high frequency roll off. Please advise, Thank You
Such a great review! I’d been eyeing this system as a possible replacement sound bar for my living room. I love music and old movies, so this is absolutely not the bar for me. Thanks for the detailed discussion!
my bar 9.1 also has the same issue with stereo sound, you have to manually turn off the automatic upmix each time you turn it on to really hear the music as it was intended. with auto upmix, it just sounds strange in a very bad way
I agree, i just got done testing the JBL 1000 and it was less then good. music is terrible on these JBL soundbars and lack of true volume control in dolby, rear speakers and subwoofer is a mystery why they did a step 1234 volume adjustment?? i never got this soundbar to sound good with music, TV or 4k disc movies.
I have an Ambeo Max and I'm pretty happy with it. Ideally I wouldn't have a soundbar, but space is limited and I can't really have speakers all around my living area. Also just got a hand me down subwoofer to add a little more to the experience. I also needed something with a lot of inputs since I don't have a TV that supports e-arc, and I think all others have two or less.
@@coolestspott69 I haven't heard the JBL outside of a Best Buy, but even then it sounded pretty good. Between the two, I'd say that the Ambeo will give you a higher quality sound, but it won't give you the immersive surround experience. It's the best I had tried that was a do it all bar, I would describe it as more of a wall of sound than a surround experience. The JBL is going to give you that surround effect, which is IMO more immersive overall. If you lean towards music and TV series, which are often streamed with 2.0 or 2.1 audio, I'd say the Ambeo would be my choice. If you want it for movies, I'd look at the JBL.
Hi, when I listen to music on the JBL1300 through bluetooth with the detachable speakers plugged into the main bar, the main bar doesn’t make any sound, only the detachable speakers do. And once I detach them, then the main bar starts playing. I wonder why the whole bar can’t play music to enjoy the full power of the set without detaching the rear speakers. Do you know how to fix this ? Thanks
What's the difference between the JBL 5.1 and JBL 500, is the 500 just a newer version ? Because you really liked the 5.1 in one of your older vids and i was wondering if 500 is better or i should just consider the 5.1 which is cheaper
Hi...great reviews...Im thinking of getting the jbl 1000 soundbar...my tv has ARC but no atmos but i have the full NETFIX bundle that transmits Atmos if your tv supports it, will i have Atmos coming out of the soundbar if NEXFLIX is transmitting Atmos although my tv does not support it? If not, is it worth buying the soundbar jbl 1000 if your tv does not have Atmos
Great reviewn and the concersation at the end is very helpful. Keep comparing with older soundbars for reference. I still git the klipsch 600 with the surrounds. It made a massive difference when i placed the stands for the rear instead of having them at the back of the sofa.
Hi, this is my first time to buy a soundbar and I purchase 1300x during black Friday. I remove the Left/Right speaker and put it at the back of the room, I notice there is a sound but no voice when I watch a movie in the removable speaker. Is that normal? Thank you
I don't recall it being as bad as this one is with music but it was plagued with dropouts where this one doesn't have that issue so it makes it a wash really. If you want a bar from JBL that is good with music and movies, I'd look at this one amzn.to/39hJ1Xz
@@KristiWright thank you! I’ve owned the Bar 9.1 since it came out and I’ve surprisingly had no drop-out issues so far! I was maybe thinking of upgrading to the 1300, but I like me some long music sessions, so I’ll stick the 9.1 for now and grab a pair of R700’s in a little while and build a system up from there!
Are the batteries on these rear speakers easily replaceable or cost effective to be replaceable ? Like any battery operated device it's always battery that's first to go.
I purchase 3 system all been terrible and return all the last one I purchased was the Samsung hw-q750b and that was terrible any good recommendations for something with clear sound and deep bass.
Good honest review as always… i could never answer who makes the best soundbar, as its not my thing.. but the fact that the surrounds need to be charged would keep me away.. too much charging in my life…
@Andrew Robinson can you share more detailed information? Many people say that the surround speakers are too weak. I tested the JBL Bar 5.1 with detachable surround speakers and didn't hear any problems with the surround speakers. They were powerful enough (I just raised the surround speaker volume slightly after calibration). The JBL Bar 1300 surround speaker has 2x drivers + 1 tweeter (while the JBL Bar 5.1 has 1x driver + 1 tweeter). Perhaps with 5.1 content (movies), everything is fine, but there might not be enough power for Atmos content? Or maybe the 1300 indeed has weaker surround speakers?
@@TheGirlSkateBoardCo They are still collecting emails for something they admitted to us wasn't finished. I'm in wait and see mode until the product is realized.
@@TheGirlSkateBoardCo TBH, I’m not really in the market to make a wholesale change to my current 7.1 system, but I do wish them well, and maybe with sufficient public input they might be inclined to circulate at least one sample to reviewers such as Andrew/Kristi, Caleb, FOMO, et al.
@@TheGirlSkateBoardCo Complete with custom engraved plaque and etched number on remote from the 500 limited edition introduction series. Hope you enjoy it. Out of curiosity, what TV will they be used with?
Could someone amswer me please, 1. If batteries are gone, can rear speakers work with direct power? 2.if no charge there in batteries, with direct power can they work? 3.any problems connecting rear speakers automatically? Thinking to buy 9.1
Great review, hope you could do a lot of videos like this, really usefull! I have a couple of questions: 1: the speakers could be used stand alone connected to a smartphone to play music? 2: Do you also tested yamaha true x 50a? Which do you suggest for tv movies, I need one with speakers wireless, no wires in the room. Thanks!
Awesome review, I'm on the hunt for a atmos soundbar. Here in Denmark where I live, right now I can get the q990b for less than 800$, would this be the best buy in your opinion?
Great review and I love your channel. There seems to be a new kid on the block that is not a avr speaker nor a sound bar. I am referring to the Klipsch Nines powered speakers. I would really love to see you review this. If you already reviewed and I missed I’m sorry.
Thank you so much for the review, been looking forward to it very much. Have the 9.1 JBL and love it for the living room and the clean setup with the detachable speakers. So wanted to hear your thoughts on the 1300x. Probably will upgrade years down the line, when the price goes down 😂
Don't bother. I've had the 9.1 since the beginning and just got the 1300x on sale but it's going back. Just not enough of a difference to justify the price. If you don't trust me...just buy it and return it like me lol
hello andrew. i am writing this from dhaka, bangladesh. my tv is 55" sony x90e. it is a dolby digital/dts tv with 4k hdr. i already have jbl 5.1 sound bar. sometimes, the bar lost connection with the tv through hdmi. i am using a good quality of hdmi. after shutting down the power, it starts working again. this has become a real pain now a days. but with optical, no issues. may i ask, why it is happening? kindly reply.
A small part of me would love an easy, small surround sound, but I'm not sure it would best a good stereo setup. I'm sure I could still enjoy it, but it wouldn't have the same soundstage as tower speakers
I so sincerely hope that at some point the Dragon is available. I was lucky enough to hear it briefly, and... Yeah . It's basically a sound bar for folks who absolutely never thought they wanted a sound bar. I immediately thought of you two and I think even mentioned it right after the trade show as something remarkable
We're anxiously waiting for it's real world release because according to Nakamichi it is not a finished product despite them showing it and garnering press off of it at CES.
I have the JBL 9.1 and I agree, it’s not the best with stereo or lossless audio tracks. But if you give it a Dolby Atmos track, it’s incredible!! Would you recommend me upgrading to the 1300X, or just keeping the 9.1?
Keep the 9.1 I've had the 9.1 since it came out and just bought the 1300x today on sale and I just don't hear the price difference. It's going back. I have a 2017 LG Oled and it has ARC but not eARC so maybe that has something to do with it but I'm not buying a new OLED so the 9.1 still rocks! I'm super bumbed because I wanted to love it but it's just not that big of a difference. Either take my word for it or just get the 1300x and keep the receipt lol
channel is on our regular rotation - love to play your reviews while in the background as i work around the house - especially love your sound bar reviews as I am always looking for the best sound in a smaller envelope - of course the physics of sound and size is a problem so it is interesting to see how companies solve this issue - keep up the great work -
I know what the problem is with the music. With the rear speakers attached all the speakers in the centerbar do not function. With the rears detached ) (1 is enough) the 6 upfiring speakers do not function. ! talked to JBL about is, it is deliberate so that you get stereo sound. I really hope they come with a software uodate for this!
A big fan of all your reviews! Curios to know if Sonos will loan you a pair of their new era300's speakers with Dolby Atmos built in, since they never sent you the Arc soundbar. Thanks
Unfortunately, they do not send us product for review. We aren't even on their press release list. At this moment, I don't believe we will review the Eras since we'd need to purchase them for a review. I'm more interested in the Arc update/replacement should one ever be released.
good sir do you currently have any plans to get your hands on and review the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 system? or at least have a take on modern day Nakamichi? thank you for your time.
Great review, I have subscribed! Looking to get a new soundbar to replace my cinema 800. Out of these 3, which would you recommend? Jbl 1300x, Sony HT-A7000 with SW5 sub, or the Samsung 990C?
My dislike for samsung is so hug, one center channel produces real sound in both music and movies while all others including the surround act like surround on high volume how can one channel do the job for music
@Andrew Robinson so I'm now leaning towards the q990c, in your opinion does the q990b sub hit hard for only being an 8inch and less powerful compared to the jbl?
Love your site. Every sound bar review references the Ambeo Max or other Ambeo bars. Where is the full review ? I'm down to buying the Max or Samsung 990c. I'm looking for all the information i can get. Thank you, Richard
Thank you for your quick response ! I found the one from 2 years ago. The way you tube and my device crunched the thumbnail I had a hard time spotting it (5 tries operator error). A follow up question, please: Will the Samsung 990 (b tested or c theoretically) sound good without the rear speakers ? Dropping it down to "3.1 with front Atmos". My chair is in the back corner of my room. Using them would 1 speaker is 11 feet away the other 18 inches ! Thank you again, Richard
Hi there! I'm searching like crazy to find a decent (if not) ANY review about the Denon DHT-S716H. Everyone forgets about this bar and I don't know why. I've heard it and sounds really good. Also for music. Can there be a review of this bar maybe in comparison to one of its rivals?
One question: you mentioned that the 990B support VRR and ALLM. From what I could find, the 990B (or 990C) does not support VRR, and does not have 2.1 HDMI ports! Is there a workaround to make it work? I really love your reviews! I actually cancelled my order for a JBL 1300 and bought the 990C instead, thanks to you!
The Q995C supports VRR (Freesync Premium) and VRR - at least on Samsung QN90C. It just doesnt support 4k/120hz. All you have to do is to activate the Game Mode in your TV options (Auto or On on Samsung TVs).
Well i'm not into soundbars at all.. i feel they sound cheap with those plastic construction and the expensive ones doesn't compete with a descend 5.1 with dedicated speakers and amp... However i support the channel so i'm thinking out loud here. Keep up the good work guys.. luv u both!!!
It's a shame you've not managed to get hold of a Ambeo Plus to try, I've loved mine, had it about 4 months, hooked up to my old sub, and it's been great. I see they are also now also going to do a Ambeo mini to compete with the sonus beam.
It must take forever to put all the time stamps and bookmarks etc. on the videos. Much appreciated. Sounds like the Samsung soundbar is your favorite for movies?

Thanks so much DaWayne! And we're right there with you in watching episodic content more than films.
Please advise, Thank You
Afternoon Andrew and Kristi👍👍
Morning! Thanks so much for tuning in KJ!
My one question is when the detachable rear speakers stop working in a few years from now, can I ordered a new pair?
Glad to see you also like moby play amazing album for testing speakers got my own vinyl copy for my birthday this year 👍
Such a great review! I’d been eyeing this system as a possible replacement sound bar for my living room. I love music and old movies, so this is absolutely not the bar for me. Thanks for the detailed discussion!
Glad it was helpful!
my bar 9.1 also has the same issue with stereo sound, you have to manually turn off the automatic upmix each time you turn it on to really hear the music as it was intended. with auto upmix, it just sounds strange in a very bad way
Thanks for this information. The weird thing my 9.1 is doing with (2-channel) music is distressing. I will try this
I agree, i just got done testing the JBL 1000 and it was less then good. music is terrible on these JBL soundbars and lack of true volume control in dolby, rear speakers and subwoofer is a mystery why they did a step 1234 volume adjustment?? i never got this soundbar to sound good with music, TV or 4k disc movies.
Am confused, whether to get the ambeo max or the JBL 1300.. did you experience the latter?
Thanks
I'm new in seperates and I bought a Parasound A51, but want a 2 channel setup now. Do I have to switch to a JC5 or A21 or can I use the A51 for it?
Can i use this soundbar for home Karaoke by adding a mixer?
It made a massive difference when i placed the stands for the rear instead of having them at the back of the sofa.
how about for singing? which system is good?
Hi, this is my first time to buy a soundbar and I purchase 1300x during black Friday. I remove the Left/Right speaker and put it at the back of the room, I notice there is a sound but no voice when I watch a movie in the removable speaker. Is that normal? Thank you
Hey there Andrew and Kristi!
would you say the Bar 9.1 from 3 years ago was better for music than the 1300x?
I would love to see you review the new Nakamichi Dragons surround sound system
Are the batteries on these rear speakers easily replaceable or cost effective to be replaceable ? Like any battery operated device it's always battery that's first to go.
No idea, my guess is, no.
I purchase 3 system all been terrible and return all the last one I purchased was the Samsung hw-q750b and that was terrible any good recommendations for something with clear sound and deep bass.
How would you compare the 1300x with the sony ht-a9 with a sony oled?
I am thinking of getting a samsung hw-q990c, is it a good option for 900 bucks ?
Good honest review as always… i could never answer who makes the best soundbar, as its not my thing.. but the fact that the surrounds need to be charged would keep me away.. too much charging in my life…
They charge when docked to the main bar so it's pretty easy. I prefer the surrounds here to wired surrounds. Appreciate you tuning in!
Right on! Cheers
Wireless opens up options in so many rooms and layouts.
@@maxpower78-15
You can get the charging plug for each surround speaker and keep them plugged in!
FYI.
Great review as always. I think once era 300 gets hooked up to the arc it'll sound amazing.
I hope you can get your hands on the Nakamichi Dragon. I'd like to hear your thoughts after you put it through it's paces.
Once the product is "real", as in shipping to customers we'll give it a look.
@@TheGirlSkateBoardCo They are still collecting emails for something they admitted to us wasn't finished. I'm in wait and see mode until the product is realized.
Been a big fan of Nak from the old days, but if they’re not careful they could get a reputation for vapourware.
Can this sounbard be good for home Karaoke?
I'm about to sell my Multibeam 5.0 and my Bar 9.1 to get the new Bar 300 and Bar 1300x. I think its an upgrade from the previous model
Great review! Thank you.
Appreciate you joining us, Allen!
Could someone amswer me please,
1. If batteries are gone, can rear speakers work with direct power?
2.if no charge there in batteries, with direct power can they work?
3.any problems connecting rear speakers automatically?
Thinking to buy 9.1
Yes, they use C cable charging and. An stay plugged in and work ...and rear connectivity is very good
which is better between jbl 1300 and bose 900 with sub 700? i need for gaming
If I were to use this in a big 1 room apartment (there is a decent level of soundproofing between apartments) would the bass on lvl 1 be too strong?
what is the range - say distance for bluetooth from your phone to speaker
Top notch review! Still love my Klipsch fives and SVS3000Micro setup. Keep up the great work
how does the JBL Bar 9.1 compare to the 1300xl?
Great review, hope you could do a lot of videos like this, really usefull!
I have a couple of questions:
1: the speakers could be used stand alone connected to a smartphone to play music?

Opps thanks
5/7/9s all seem fun (Klipsch fan here)
HI …. when will it be available on the Italian market?
Another great video.
Is the Samsung bar better for dolby atmos ?
It was like I've been waiting forever for you to review the Sonos arc. I forget what is the hold up? 🤓
@@harleydad1975 the 9.1 is $599.99 rn on Amazon and thinking about getting it 🤔
hello andrew. i am writing this from dhaka, bangladesh. my tv is 55" sony x90e. it is a dolby digital/dts tv with 4k hdr. i already have jbl 5.1 sound bar. sometimes, the bar lost connection with the tv through hdmi. i am using a good quality of hdmi. after shutting down the power, it starts working again. this has become a real pain now a days. but with optical, no issues. may i ask, why it is happening? kindly reply.
A small part of me would love an easy, small surround sound, but I'm not sure it would best a good stereo setup. I'm sure I could still enjoy it, but it wouldn't have the same soundstage as tower speakers
@robinsonbrand will you be reviewing the Sennheiser Ambeo Plus?
Tough question I ask that question myself
Keep the 9.1 I've had the 9.1 since it came out and just bought the 1300x today on sale and I just don't hear the price difference. It's going back. I have a 2017 LG Oled and it has ARC but not eARC so maybe that has something to do with it but I'm not buying a new OLED so the 9.1 still rocks! I'm super bumbed because I wanted to love it but it's just not that big of a difference. Either take my word for it or just get the 1300x and keep the receipt lol
@@harleydad1975good advice there , brother . Sometimes it just hype .
channel is on our regular rotation - love to play your reviews while in the background as i work around the house - especially love your sound bar reviews as I am always looking for the best sound in a smaller envelope - of course the physics of sound and size is a problem so it is interesting to see how companies solve this issue - keep up the great work -
I know what the problem is with the music. With the rear speakers attached all the speakers in the centerbar do not function. With the rears detached ) (1 is enough) the 6 upfiring speakers do not function. ! talked to JBL about is, it is deliberate so that you get stereo sound. I really hope they come with a software uodate for this!
Sounds like quite the speaker. My only question is when are you getting a Nakamichi Dragon and reviewing it?
A big fan of all your reviews! Curios to know if Sonos will loan you a pair of their new era300's speakers with Dolby Atmos built in, since they never sent you the Arc soundbar. Thanks
Unfortunately, they do not send us product for review. We aren't even on their press release list. At this moment, I don't believe we will review the Eras since we'd need to purchase them for a review. I'm more interested in the Arc update/replacement should one ever be released.
good sir do you currently have any plans to get your hands on and review the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 system? or at least have a take on modern day Nakamichi? thank you for your time.
ok i am not alone here i see you have responded to others regarding the Dragon 11.4.6, thanks again!
We would love to bring you that review but so far they are unresponsive to both our own and their customer's requests to send review samples.
Great review, I have subscribed! Looking to get a new soundbar to replace my cinema 800. Out of these 3, which would you recommend? Jbl 1300x, Sony HT-A7000 with SW5 sub, or the Samsung 990C?
bit.ly/43OfVWi
My dislike for samsung is so hug, one center channel produces real sound in both music and movies while all others including the surround act like surround on high volume how can one channel do the job for music
How does it compare with sony ht a9
Hey. Do you actually have a music playlist on Spotify that you use to test any speaker systems?
I don't use Spotify so no playlist however, we always note the media used (I'll be it an abbreviated list) in the video description for every review.
I have the Samsung q990b--its incredible and very loud--thanks guys
Agree!!
It's one of the best! Thanks for watching.
@Andrew Robinson so I'm now leaning towards the q990c, in your opinion does the q990b sub hit hard for only being an 8inch and less powerful compared to the jbl?
I had a sub with 2 10 inch woofers and it's just as good as it.
Yeah, the 990B can go real loud, with minimal distortion too
Can someone help me which one to buy between 9.1 and 800 with the same price?
Love your site. Every sound bar review references the Ambeo Max or other Ambeo bars. Where is the full review ?
I'm down to buying the Max or Samsung 990c. I'm looking for all the information i can get.
Thank you, Richard
After Sennheiser's ownership went to a new parent company, they have not been responsive to our review requests.
Thank you for your quick response ! I found the one from 2 years ago. The way you tube and my device crunched the thumbnail I had a hard time spotting it (5 tries operator error).
A follow up question, please:
Will the Samsung 990 (b tested or c theoretically) sound good without the rear speakers ? Dropping it down to "3.1 with front Atmos". My chair is in the back corner of my room. Using them would 1 speaker is 11 feet away the other 18 inches !
Thank you again, Richard
Does this have 4k 120Hz passthrough??
Would you go with the jbl 1300 or the Vizio elevate??
bit.ly/4349OOk
Well i'm not into soundbars at all.. i feel they sound cheap with those plastic construction and the expensive ones doesn't compete with a descend 5.1 with dedicated speakers and amp... However i support the channel so i'm thinking out loud here. Keep up the good work guys.. luv u both!!!
What do you guys think of the Sony HT A7000 soundbar, Harman Kardon citation 1100 or the Sennheiser ambeo?

Sir I Love your Videos
Sony HT A9 with SW-5 sub vs JBL 1300x who's gonna win And Which is better ???????
Easy. Sony.
Can Sony in the future bring centre channel speakers for their HT-A9????
That would be nice but I have no inside knowledge if that will happen.
It's a shame you've not managed to get hold of a Ambeo Plus to try, I've loved mine, had it about 4 months, hooked up to my old sub, and it's been great. I see they are also now also going to do a Ambeo mini to compete with the sonus beam.
Glad to know you are enjoying yours. I wish we could get them to send us one but to date we haven't had any luck with the new parent company.
It must take forever to put all the time stamps and bookmarks etc. on the videos. Much appreciated. Sounds like the Samsung soundbar is your favorite for movies?
It is definitely time consuming so I'm glad to know it is helpful to you.
