    The Nakamichi Shockwave is already a superb product 👌. The Dragon looks like a worthy successor. If it truly does give AVRs and speakers a run for their money, the entire market will change in favor of soundbars as competitors add similar features at lower prices.

      @justinbyrne5736 Per Nakamichi's press, they thought of that and the Dragon apparently switches automatically into stereo mode when stereo encoded music is detected via its inputs. All speakers 🔊 will switch to left and right channels. We will see if it works when reviews come out.

    I too had both the honor and privilege to experience the ..Dragon! Being 61years old, I'm not only fully aware of the DRAGON concept, to this day we still have all 3 of the original pieces. What I was most impressed with, was the music side of things. Especially with classic music... Very impressed. The customization is light years ahead of anybody. And I mean anybody! $3500.00 ,when you look at the whole set up, it's a steal. The wonderful thing is, 99 percent of manufacturers will not chase this. So not only will you have an amazing system, more importantly you'll be part of a select group. If you can, pull the trigger you won't regret it. You must see it, touch it, and of course , listen to it.

      @@gregcrezee4071 Yes, but it's not understandable, if you like music or movies, there have been excellent electronic devices for a long time and I don't understand why they choose these pieces of shit, the American market is already stupid, a lot of marketing, 3000 watts where? in a 1/4 inch voice coil 3 inch woofer? don't make me laugh, if they are 30 watt speakers that's a lot, I have Jbl 2226H 15-inch woofers 4-inch voice coil 600 watts that's reasonable right? That's why we have our own set of ears and eyes! Wattage means nothing! What sounds best to your ears, that's what you pick! That's why blind testing is the most fun! Your eyes and ears can fool you. I've always been of this simple philosophy. If/when you get your year set up, sit your ass down, and turn it all on. If a big smile comes across your face? You've chosen correctly. One man's junk, is another man's treasure. If your happy with your year, that's all that matters. Anyone and everyone's opinion, means nothing. They are not in your home.

    I would not order the Dragon if my life depended on it. Have had the Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2 eARC for around a month now and it is nothing but trouble. Brand new, out of the box, one of the subwoofers did not work at all. I contacted the "Ninja" support group by email and eventually one of their people contacted me, the emails led to a phone call. He guided me to remove the 10 screws that hold the amplifier assembly in the subwoofer and pull out that electronic component. Turns out there was a cable disconnected inside that subwoofer. Not the cable the "Ninja" told me would be disconnected, it was another one. So you know what that means, other cables in their new equipment have gone out disconnected. Then, after all the set-up, the rear speakers have to be set on 10 (max) just for them to add any presence to the mix. The "Ninjas" had no answer for this except to set to all stereo mode. Why would it make sense to run a surround system in stereo? Beginning yesterday, the subwoofers pop and gurgle, a horrible sounding distorted electronic noise. So far, no "Ninja" help. The subwoofers and connected surround speakers pop and gurgle on anything I listen to. Tried unplugging and resetting everything, no help. Originally I thought about waiting and buy the Dragon when available. At this point I am so glad I did not. Why risk twice as much for more junk? Just a note, I am not a novice with surround systems. I've had several since the late 80's, some with large, amplified receivers and large full sets of speakers in 7.1. You can take these comments with a grain of salt, but think about it before you buy.

    With Sony just announcing their next batch of qd-oleds and giving us a 77 inch version paired with this beast of a machine it’s going to be one hell of a cinematic experience and only for about 8-8500 bucks. Not cheap by any means but compared to some setups that’s a steal. And this thing only being 3500 (pretax) is pretty insane considering what it can do

      I'm in your boat myself; I'm barely able to afford some of Vizio's Atmos soundbars (not available outside the U S. AFAIK). Still, given its specs that mirror similarly priced AVRs, it sounds like the Dragon may actually be worth its $3,500 price tag. Of course, let's not forget that soundbars in general fill the huge (and widening on both ends) gap between TV speakers & traditional AVRs.

Like cutting thousands of dollars off the price tag of my theater, sort of value. I got into home theater with a sound bar, then went to a full Dolby 7.2.4 system over the past few years. I think Nakamichi and Creative Labs are going to be the ones to deliver all-in-one packages that sound phenomenal and make sense for any budget. • @feiyulu
    @feiyulu Год назад +5

    To be fair, the 11 and 6 in this 11.4.6 uses wide and surround reflections from the bar, and upward reflections, so I would expect that a good 7.x.4 AVR setup should be more than able to match the 3D imaging. As for the 4 sub drivers, it feels like they are like a poor man's SVS SB3000 Micro? All in all, I would say the price is worth it (I suspect sales down to 3k or below is quite possible), especially for people who couldn't really wire the surround and atmos speakers.
    P.S. I hope more soundbar manufacturers can follow suit. Now that Nakamichi has done it, I see no reason that Samsung/Sonos/etc couldn't achieve something similar working with Dolby and DTS. Since there are not that many overlaps between soundbar and AVR manufacturers, THEN, all these improved soundbars could really light a fire to those AVR manufacturers that have kept the price so high for their processing unit due to their exclusivity.

    • @ealanosborne
      @ealanosborne  Год назад +3

      Nakamichi has been doing incredible things since they got into the soundbar system game. The Dragon is a culmination of several iterations and continued upgrades. Sony and Samsung are definitely behind and I am not sure they desire to reach this level. The 9.2.4 earc version improved in every aspect, especially playing music. The dragon appears to have truly reach the premium level for music only an AVR system could achieve. If that turns out to be accurate, this system is a complete game changer!!!

    3:58 These are not quad subwoofers. Two drivers in one enclosure does not make it a stereo subwoofer, regardless of driver loading. Even if each driver is powered by its own amplifier with its own audio channel, each whole enclosure is still a point 1.
    A real and true .4 subwoofer system has 4 separate subwoofer enclosures that can be independently moved and set up. With Nakamichi's logic, the SVS 3000 Micro, the Sonos Sub (full and Mini), etc will be a point-2 subwoofer on its own even though it's clearly not.
    Apart from Nakamichi's misleading advertising of subwoofer channels, this product looks and sounds bad-ass!

      I've been a HUGE fan of Nakamichi since I first saw and heard them (including the Dragon cassette deck) in the early '80's, and in fact STILL have my BX-300 deck I bought back then since I couldn't afford the Dragon (I was a teen), and at one time had their car cassette deck as well. So, I think this is a great system, and think that for those not really "into" and knowledgeable about audio/home theater (and how to wire it and set it up), but still want something good, this is an excellent choice, FAR better than that Bose or Sonos or other crap. At one time Bose actually made some pretty good speakers, I had a pair of 301's in the early '80's that I loved, but I wouldn't buy anything they make now except for maybe headphones. The one thing I am NOT buying into about this system is that "3,000 watt!" power claim. Measured where, at the brochure? Maybe it DRAWS 3,000 watts? Sorry, not believing that, and maybe the 125db is measured at the driver itself? For reference, my system is an Onkyo TX-RZ820 used as a pre-amp to drive a Monolith 7x200watt amp and 7 Focal Chora 826's. I don't even think THAT 94lb monster amp will put out a legit 3,000 watts, and while I've never measured spl, I'm sure that it's higher. So, great job to Nakamichi on rising from the ashes and producing what seems to be a great system for the money, but, I'm not buying 100% of the claims, sorry.

    That IS EXACTLY a soundbar, although with real rear channels.
    That's NOT a xx.4.x device, because putting two woofers inside one box in an isobaric configuration still counts as a SINGLE subwoofer.
    So it's a xx.2.x setup, as any 4 subwoofer configuration would require 4 independent subs, ideally placed in the 4 corners of a room, in order to allow the best in-room response as linearity goes.
    The main benefit of having 4 subs is to keep the bass frequencies much more evenly distributed no matter where you're sitting at that room.
    With two subs, you will get better integration at some locations, but nowere near what a real 4 subwoofer setup fan achieve.
    On the positive note, I don't find that $3.500 is insanely expensive for a complete soundbar package such as this one, since you can pay the same (or even more) by going to other brands without rear channels. 😉
    Please bear in mind that I'm not criticizing the product or the review, but only pointing out how Nakamichi is marketing the product as something that it isn't.
    While it wouldn't prevent me from buying one (should I be in the market for this kind of solution), _facts_ shouldn't be negotiable.
    In the end, the sound experience is what matters the most, and if that suits what the prospective consumer wants or needs, it should be a great buy. 😊
