I started watching you guys when I was a teenager and was struggling with leaving my own church and just got back into your channel. I really appreciate that this channel has evolved the way it has. Thank you for your content!!!
Your experience matches my own in a different campus ministry in the 90s. Being part of that community was so powerful, and continues to shape my life 20 years later. I love that even though you are not currently in the same place in your faith journey, you can speak respectfully of the positive impact of that organization.
Thank you. My middle school daughter introduced me to you in 2013. We would watch every morning together. She has graduated now and I found you on EB. My story is very similar to yours. In 2006 I would have called myself an evangelical Christian, no longer. Thank you so much for sharing your stories. As I listen to all all of these things I share so many memories and understandings with you. It’s hard to come out in this way to family and friends but your public platform certainly is helping many of us recover.
As a sophomore in college who has no idea what I want to do but have super unconventional goals relative to my peers, this video was not only super inspiring but I think necessary to come across. Also just being fans of you guys for the past like 8 years (which is wild) it was so dope to get more of an insight into your lives and what made you guys the people you are today. i grew up watching rhett and link, and as an adult grew apart from their content, i would always check in on them and whatnot, but finding this podcast has actually been a wonderful experience. i feel like i am getting to know the people i wish were my dad better, instead of hearing awful stories about my own father that make me ashamed to exist. i just love their positivity and kindness
Absolutely love it. A lot of public figures shy away from talking about their past, but it's always great to look back and see how where you've been directed where you ended up going. The video version of a historical monument!
I'm so excited for the next one I had to watch this even after listening to it last Monday. "The greatest gift you ever give is your honest self." - Fred Rogers
Listened to this on the pod, wonderful! Thanks so much for this series, and for starting off with the sensitivity that others had a totally less positive experience with the church. Great work, and makes me love you more :)
You guys have been such a positive influence on me, you are two incredible men that God has placed in my life when I needed it most. I really hope to spend eternity with you guys. Always thankful and always praying for you guys.
I found out about GMM after watching Sorted Food doing an episode five years ago and then totally became hooked onto their show. It has been and continues to be a daily pick me up which I watch new and previous episodes. Thank you gents.
I enjoy hearing people tell their life stories. Especially those I invest my time in. I am grateful Rhett and Link finally feel safe enough to share this part of their lives with us!
This was an amazing podcast guys. I'm currently 56 minutes in, paused to grab some food and then realized it was almost over! I could watch a podcast like this for hours.
Almost 3 years later, this was still the most incredible episode of any podcast I've ever watched. My eyes were wide through the entire thing. I was just gobsmacked.
This explains quite a lot. I had a friend from around where y'all grew up who had some nasty things to say about y'all that I never understood or asked for more information about. I'm honestly so happy y'all are talking about this and how far you've come in your journeys from where you started.
My husband and I started a church after seeing the abuse and judgements the church, was heaping on people. I started watching your videos after we received so much backlash for doing what we were doing. It was so helpful to have something funny to lighten my heavy days.
I was also raised in a small town, southern Baptist church. I can't wait to hear the rest of the story and your individual perspectives on religion today.
What I’m wondering is did your changed beliefs when you moved to California? How does your parents feel about the change , has it caused stress between y’all ? What foundation are you providing for your own children?
A really thoughtful and enjoyable ep and it really does connect the dots for some of the stuff you have done (including the importance of the church in the novel). Im really glad your faith gave you the opportunity to hone your creative skills. Im personally not religious but have always appreciated those that are and are welcoming and accepting.
I've had a long history with religion and I'm not a fan of proselytizing. That being said, it's incredibly interesting to hear about the other side of religion from two people I deeply respect. It's so fascinating to me to see how big of an influence religion can be in people's lives. Thank you for sharing your story with us. :)
Wow, THANK YOU for sharing this part of your lives. Highly anticipating the next few Biscuits. I'm sure lots of questions will be answered in the Biscuits to come. I can't wait to hear about where your spiritual journey has brought you to at this point. What does your family in NC think about where you're at now (spiritually)? Your wives? And what spiritual foundation are you providing your children? Very curious about your children, especially since thus far in your story having the foundation you had for your childhood seems to have effected you in such a positive way.
This episode is very captivating! It's cool hearing a more in depth side after being a fan since 2014! I could honestly just listen to you guys go on for hours!
Really enjoyed how candid you were with us. It's scary to bring up religion in most settings due to arguments and judgement muchless when you guys have a fan base the size you do. At the end of the day this part of your life is what makes you you and we love you both as you are. End of story.

You guys are surprising me a little with how you came from evangelical to where you are now. I grew up very religious and had to go through some trying times for my religious views to eventually change into what they are now. I guess I'm amazed that you morphed away from similar views without going through the shorter process that I did.
I feel you on this. I'm very curious to hear what made them move away from the Evangelical Church. My reasons were... complex to say the least, and it did happen much faster for me, too.
#earbiscuits You guys and Kevin Smith, I could listen to tell stories forever. My dad is a Baptist Minister here in Kentucky, so I was raised in much the same way as you guys, and I am the lead singer of a rock band which I started doing to confront my own social anxiety disorder. I loved this conversation. Plus, it sounds like my religious upbringing was similar to both of yours. Except by high school, I rebelled and refused to join any religious extra curricular activities. And then avoided them in college. I admire you guys having this conversation and being strong in your faith.
This is crazy to hear about. My parents both used to work for CRU, and when I started watching Rhett and Link 7 years ago, my dad would tell me how these guys used to work for CRU. It's always been in the back of my mind, but I started to believe he was thinking of the wrong dudes... I guess he was right!
I knew somewhere in my heart that this was Rhett and Link's background with religion, community, etc because I have had a lot of the same experiences (at a completely different time in history, I will admit). And their behavior and conversations in all their Ear Biscuits, and sometimes GMM, have been little hints into this part of their past. It is really cool to hear it for the first time and recognize so much of it within myself. I am very excited to listen to more! #earbiscuits

So thank you for making this!!
It's so heart-warming how open and honest Rhett and Link have become, and I personally enjoy the spiritual and fascinating topic and I can't wait for more!
I'm only 13 minutes in and I'm like wow. Weird thing is that it kind of all makes sense. Almost as if I sensed this the whole time. I can't wait to hear all these episodes
i grew up watching rhett and link, and as an adult grew apart from their content, i would always check in on them and whatnot, but finding this podcast has actually been a wonderful experience. i feel like i am getting to know the people i wish were my dad better, instead of hearing awful stories about my own father that make me ashamed to exist. i just love their positivity and kindness
Î wish I could give your comment a million likes
@@Chonzik12345 thank you!
CMDR JAY bro same!!!! Ahhh lowly trippy haha
Almost 3 years later, this was still the most incredible episode of any podcast I've ever watched. My eyes were wide through the entire thing. I was just gobsmacked.
Of course all the episodes in the lost years/deconstruction series are all incredible, but this first one was like a bombshell for me.
☝️this #earbiscuits
I had the same questions as well!
#earbiscuits
Good questions
Who cares, this isn't about religion, if they were to start talking about religion, they would lose viewers
For the record I would've been fine with an extended episode
This is so dope. I'm in school to become a worship pastor and one-day pastor at a church! Thank you guys for opening up on this topic.
JimmyJam worthless endeavor, lol
I'll keep you in my prayers! :)
@@jacobloving6765 that's rude
hope you've been watching their newer videos about how they stopped believing and realized the nonsense of it
A really thoughtful and enjoyable ep and it really does connect the dots for some of the stuff you have done (including the importance of the church in the novel).
I'm a small town Kentucky beast who TOTALLY relates to all your small town stories and Bleak Creek parallels. Thanks guys!
Best Ear Biscuit yet. Easily. Things just start to make do much sense now.
Really enjoyed how candid you were with us. It's scary to bring up religion in most settings due to arguments and judgement muchless when you guys have a fan base the size you do. At the end of the day this part of your life is what makes you you and we love you both as you are. End of story.
Boyhood dream > gave up > engineers > moved on > missionaries > round about > boyhood dreams achieved 💪🏼
It’s almost like the Universe had your back the whole time, what a crazy journey though!
I listened to this on the podcast and have been patiently awaiting the video upload 😊
i finally cut out the audio version so the video upload is always new for me 😁
@@PaulMeranda I generally watch the video version first as well as it super enjoyable to watch them in their element 😊 the podcast I normally listen to to help me sleep
you dont know how long ive been waiting in my life to truly know the story of rhett and link...
I’ve been wondering about this side of them and I’m so appreciative that they are letting us in. I’m so excited to learn more.
#earbiscuits You guys and Kevin Smith, I could listen to tell stories forever. My dad is a Baptist Minister here in Kentucky, so I was raised in much the same way as you guys, and I am the lead singer of a rock band which I started doing to confront my own social anxiety disorder. Loving this revelation and greatly looking forward to the next episode! Your inspirations, influences, reflections, and personalities are all invaluable components of what make you, YOU, and your fans adore you. Origin stories are fascinating. Keep fighting the good fight and being yourselves.
I'm only 5 minutes in and I'm stoked. I'm in the camp of wanting to hear this story forever. Really thought Pete Holmes was gonna get it out of you a few months ago. Cant wait for the rest of these, you rock!
I loved this conversation. Plus, it sounds like my religious upbringing was similar to both of yours. Except by high school, I rebelled and refused to join any religious extra curricular activities. And then avoided them in college. I admire you guys having this conversation and being strong in your faith.
I wouldn’t mind sitting here for 8 hours listening to you guys. Especially since I listen when I’m at work.
Rhett is slowly turning into Tormund from Game of Thrones.
Sardaukar lol, I have never watched it but goggled the character...he really does
Look, I straight-up had this exact thought the other day lol
This is crazy to hear about. My parents both used to work for CRU, and when I started watching Rhett and Link 7 years ago, my dad would tell me how these guys used to work for CRU. It's always been in the back of my mind, but I started to believe he was thinking of the wrong dudes... I guess he was right!
As a guy who had a very religious family and went to a small private chrichtian school this episode was actually very comforting.
My husband is giving his testimony this morning. The timing of this episode is 👍🤗
I knew somewhere in my heart that this was Rhett and Link's background with religion, community, etc because I have had a lot of the same experiences (at a completely different time in history, I will admit). And their behavior and conversations in all their Ear Biscuits, and sometimes GMM, have been little hints into this part of their past. It is really cool to hear it for the first time and recognize so much of it within myself. I am very excited to listen to more! #earbiscuits
I can’t even explain how much I appreciate what y’all do and how real and respectful y’all are
I just discovered you guys a month ago. I loved this so much. I love people's stories it makes us who we are. I'm so glad you were ready to share. ❤️
I really enjoyed this, I love background stories. I also want to acknowledge how much courage it takes to open up to so many people like this. Looking forward to the next!
Thank you for speaking with grace towards the people involved in your religious upbringing. I am so thankful that you have prioritized unity instead of division on your platform.
Really appreciate this podcast, and can’t wait for the rest! Thank you for your honesty and finally connecting the dots! You guys are the best!
I'd be 'lost' without you guys
I'd be 'bleak' without you guys
country road take me home to a plaaaaaace wheree i beeeelonnnnng
Yeah, ha ha
I went to a church camp in North Carolina whenever you guys were doing this series. They absolutely lost their shit and were terrified that we would also start to think freely.
I didn't want to post this comment with the long rambling more meaningful one I posted. I could listen to them talk about anything. As a Canadian, I really love their voices. They don't have the accent as strongly at times, but amazing voices.
I also was a part of CRU in college and very involved. It totally blew my mind to hear you guys talk about the weekly meetings, Big Break, Summer Project, Winter Conference, etc. cool to hear this side of your story!!
I'm glad you guys shared. So many young people are in the dark about college or just need to hear another person experiences to understand thier own. It's really cool, like a big brother or older cousin filling ya in on life. I appreciate it!
I’m so anxious as to where this story is headed. 😬😬😬😬😬😬
No matter which direction it turns, I’ll still watch.
Growing up near y’all, I resonated and recognized so many stories given here, but never realized they originated from R&L. Keep sharing your story!
Normally an audio listener but wanted to see what y’all other mythical beasts thought cause I LOVED this episode. So happy to see all the support for them! I’m so pumped to hear more too!
you have nothing but my undying love and full support Boys. You two are amazing and mythical. The love, respect, and care that you express and encourage all to give deserves nothing less. Love you boys. Thank you for trusting me and sharing these last years with me/us. I look forward to tomorrow's episode 2 of this series.
And then at the end plugging that podcast?????? *chef’s kiss* I fw you guys so much wow
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS. Wow I have been laughing with you all for years but I was nervous to delve into this series because it hit home to me. So now I'm I got up the courage to watch these ear biscuits.
That jacket looks really nice.

Calvin M Link is a stylish guy.
It fits him rlly well
Was waiting for this entire week :) good time to be mythical beast
LOVE the authenticity and vulnerability of this podcast ♥️
I can't stop listening to these podcasts, The only podcast that has had my full attention all throughout!! Love y'all
Glad you decided to open up and share this part of your lives. Very real and that's what people love about Ear Biscuits!
This was really fascinating. The whole hour went by in minutes! Don't be afraid of going deeper into detail.
I’ve been waiting on this since 2012, not even lying
Trace Chaffin I feel
I am loving this! As someone who has transitioned from an arguably more orthodox religious group, I am eating this up. I've developed something of a passion for hearing about people's faith transition stories, mostly from my own former faith, but also from other traditions. Don't rush this, guys. Faith transition stories are some of the longest form content on all of RUclips, and people listen to the whole thing.
God loves you
So so much buddy
