Idea for Future Podcast Episode: Rhett and Link talk about their first year of marriage. The ups and downs of that first year and where they are in their marriage today.
huge props to Jessie and Christy for contributing their perspective, takes a lot of courage in our patriarchal/puritanical culture. They could totally have their own podcast, I'd listen to every episode
Wouldn't it be fun for just one week seeing Jessie and Christie switch places with Rhett & Link on Good Mythical Morning? Watching them play where in the world, and shuffleboard, and ranking foods? It would be fun!
This is the first time I've actually heard Jessie and Christy. They could easily make their own show. They have pretty much the same sense of humor as R&L. LOL
Wait I'd love that😭 Like a little podcast, just audio or something, and they share their life experiences and what it's like being them. I'd love to know, especially being together BEFORE GMM, during, and after. What it's like having kids during this, their views on religion and what not. Omg please😭 there isn't many big RUclipsrs who was with someone, even married, before the start of their channel! What an interesting perspective I'd love to see I'd take like a monthly podcast or something even!
They have a sense of humor, but they’re way more dry-humored and not as open as Rhett and Link. They’ve got a little irritated a couple of times at the questions that were being asked.
this is so valuable to hear. Christy talking about the pressure from purity culture to cover yourself to “protect” the men is exactly what I was taught, being raised evangelical. that mindset leads directly to the common belief that when women are assaulted, it’s because of what they were wearing, or otherwise that they were responsible. such dangerous ideas to feed to children. I wish I could have heard this at 14
Rhett: My entire life changed, my head exploded, I saw fireworks in my brain, it was the moment I had been waiting for my entire life Jessie: It was anticlimactic.
Which is pretty typical in my opinion. The woman feels the invasion and pain. Eventually it does get better, but that first time...definitely different for a woman.
@@JLC48 it's typical, but it's not normal Women have no reason to feel pain their first time as long as it's done right Some of y'all should study women's anatomy before you get into one lmaoooo
One of the unintended results of raising kids in the purity culture: When you spell out what's right and wrong, and young minds discover that what's "wrong" brings pleasure, it can subconsciously spill over to other areas of life. Shoplifting is wrong, recreational drug use is wrong, adultery and lying are wrong. In times of depression or confusion, there's a tendency to self soothe with what brings pleasure. Yielding to that self medicating brings a sense of guilt. It can easily turn into a downward spiral and parents are at a loss to understand where all that is coming from.
Jessie talking about having a 'harm reduction model' and knowing/acknowledging that she would do harm really struck me and made me cry because it's such a reflective way of being a parent (that I never have had in a true or consistent way w/ my parents). It seems like it would require open communication, flexibility, willing to admit to mistakes, etc. that goes into the hard work of trying to be self aware, and I imagine that would be so empowering for her kids. Beautiful. ; u ;
@@Momof4furbabies I think they've discussed it before and how they made an effort to lose the accent so they could be taken seriously. So yeah, I think you're right.
I mean they haven’t lost their accents entirely. But it’s really not that crazy, they’re in show business. It’s rare for people in the entertainment business based in LA not to lose their accents.
Not going to lie. Christy talking about having to “protect” Link from her body is crazy. It is so hard to imagine the undo responsibility that places on young kids.
I was raised very similar to Christy and the amount of times pastors or abstinence speakers made women out to be “gatekeepers” to “not allow men to sin” while the women in question were 13 year olds…. I go to therapy now too
I want Christy and Jessie to know I found this at 6am on my way to bed (I know I know), but now it's 8am bc I couldn't stop listeninh. They were so incredible and I'm so proud of them. This was SO valuable and earnest. Adore them and this entire series💙💜
Christy's fear and embarrassment in this episode speaks wonders to the world of shame she was saturated in as a female in the Evangelical sphere. I'm sad that even tho she consented to be on this that it was still hard and so obviously nerve-wracking for her.
I definitely picked up on that. She was kinda ticked off and didn't wanna answer questions about the big night. Which is understandable! But she did mention she felt caught off guard. :(
Yeah, surprised this isn’t mentioned more in the comments. She seemed slightly irritated and put off by Link’s openness and questions at certain points.
@@k1773ns Well, she should have realized what this episode was about. Unless Link wasn’t fully honest about what the questions were going to be beforehand!
It is normal and natural to have shame and modesty about something so intimate and private. Trying to take away the stigma and making it seem like normal convo is silly.
This is great!!! I can’t believe how open and vulnerable the guys are being!!! It’s refreshing as long as their wives and kids are good, it’s good to get healthy conversations going!! Coming from a marriage that is severely broken because of a lack of intimacy and vulnerability on one side, this absolutely gives me hope in men again!!! Wow, just realized that’s why you guys are so meaningful to me… you represent such great friendships and relationships- trust, vulnerability and hope… something I have lost and missed for many years! You are all four such beautiful people. Thanks for sharing and keeping your listeners talking!
Jessie saying "this is fine" had me busting out laughing so hard, because it was so relatable. I didn't even grow up in purity culture, didn't rly build anything up in my mind, and it was STILL anticlimactic for me too lmao

Same. Grew up in a very progressive household so while my first time was exciting, it wasn't too big of a deal. The first thing in my mind was "that's it? That barely lasted 5 minutes". And Because we used mood music, I KNOW it really was only around 5 minutes. Lol.
I can’t describe how amazed and grateful I am to hear Rhett acknowledge asexuality, thank you for sharing your story and acknowledging it as a piece of a much larger human experience
As a Christian woman, I’ve always been so nervous for my first time and wondering if it will be awkward because I don’t know how to do it. So I’m so thankful for this and for Christy and Jessie sharing their experiences. It makes me feel so much more comfortable knowing that I’m not the only one who has gone through this. Thank you so much ladies for being so open about such an intimate detail. I know I speak for a lot of women when I say that I appreciate it very very much.
I’m so grateful for Jessie and Christy’s perspective. The trauma for men and women individually follows the pattern of how men and women are treated in society and while I understand the pressure and anticipation for the guys, I have major empathy for the DEEPLY personal twisted mess of religious patriarchy and misogyny that clearly still sticks with them today even being in these healthy, communicative relationships ❤️
I’m so happy Christy and Jessie came on the show but my one criticism would be I wish they would have had them listen to what they had prior talked about before coming on so they could know right where you guys left off and what was said so they knew how to respond and their experience in that moment. However they did so good and I’m soo happy to hear their perspective ♥️
Yeah. I noticed that they’d ask the girl’s some questions, they’d skip around the questions asked to some extent and go on a deep philosophy type of answer.
“Accents” brought back such a great memory of my husband who has been gone now for 12 years💙 He bought a French beret and used the best French accent coming through the door at times. Oh how I loved it - miss him so much💋
I’m so sorry for the loss of your husband. I can’t imagine what I’d feel if I lost mine especially with us having been together more than half of our lives. Sending virtual hugs to you sugar. 💜
As woman who is aromantic, Rhett's performance issues reminds me of my issues I had before when I was trying force it, I really liked hearing Rhett's story because I've never heard a man speak on that before.
Rhett wouldn't be the same without his beard, but his chin is NOT as bad as he seems to believe it is. He doesn't look bad without facial hair, he just looks different than we're used to seeing.
because the entire internet went crazy when he shaved his beard. He still shows up if you look into “beards are makeup for men” anywhere. can’t blame him
thank you Christy and Jessie for talking to us in your perspective, the difference between sharing these stories publicly and on ear biscuits is no one here came to judge , we came to listen and for some (including me) came to relate. thank you again C.J.R.L, btw i had to watched this video with my wife EDIT: THE REAL CONVERSATION HAPPENS WHEN THEY GET HOME
I truly appreciate Jessie and Christy's stories and perspective. It was a contrast from the guys' and it really helps that they felt safe enough to share. Purity culture, man ...
christy and links honeymoon pictures are really cute but they look like 16 year old sweethearts more than a married couple lol. like i know they were really young when they got married but link's face looks like a little boy in some of these pictures. i guess he still has a very youthful grin. anyways both jessie and christy did great for a very broad and intimate topic in a limited time - as first timers on top of that too!! also christy's one liners were so funny i dont know if she planned to be that funny or if it came out that way because she was nervous but it worked either way! she sounds charming

I’ve spend most of my twenties listening to these guys. But hearing them being so vulnerable and honest about the purity culture I grew up in and the deconstruction of it while I’m going it through it at the same time, it’s healing to say the least. This pod cast was important, especially to people like me. Thank you.
As someone who's been married 16 years and got married in purity culture- thanks for doing these! Your experiences mirrored ours in a lot of ways, and your advice and particularly the "Scheduling" thing really hit home. I think these conversations are so important to have!
Hearing the wives speak about codependency and how it's related to parenting is so relatable for me! It certainly makes a difference to take a step back and let some things be what they are and appreciating it! I love the podcast but their sharing about themselves as mother's was the most relatable thing I've heard so far. Thank you to Jessie and Christy for sharing!!!
Bro Rhett looked like a straight goblin lol 10 feet tall with such a small face. He looks like a king now but my God he must've had some good talk game
1) This makes me more excited for a future episode with Jessie & Christy sharing their deconstruction journeys, 2) I had to pause to laugh at "THIS IS FREEEE" for like 5 minutes. Could not be more on brand for our frugal king
I feel like I could just sit down and have coffee with Jessie and Christy. This was so great to listen to. I grew up in a very similar culture and I am in their age bracket, so this is just amazing to listen to and get their perspective on. Thank you!
h there are more of them out there than you think. I’d say go for the mature men, rather than the younger gentlemen. they tend to appreciate “the vulva” more often than not. that’s been my experience anyway 😉
My first time was boring, I remember thinking “This is what people are obsessed about? I could do without this.” Meanwhile he’s having the time of his life, and I just wanted to go home 🤣
I so so appreciate your honesty when it comes to examining how purity culture/ evangelicalism effected your decision making. How much easier it would be to just shove it away and focus on your new normal. So educational, thank you.
I’m usually a RUclips Ear Biscuits listener but I had to listen to this last Monday as just the podcast.. couldn’t wait to hear from Jessie and Christy and they did not disappoint! Jessie is so well spoken, I wanted to hear even more of what she had to say! And Christy was so down to earth and hilariously relatable. I could’ve listened to another hour of them talking.. I would love to hear more from them in future podcasts!!
My husband's contribution to the wedding planning consisted of, "whatever you like, dear". I wondered if he was even listening, so one time I slipped in, "...and I'd like you to be naked". Instant response: "Nobody needs to see that, dear", so I guess he was at least sorta listening.
As a women who grew up in that purity culture I appreciate Jessie and Cristy speaking from their perspective even though it was something they kind of wanted to keep private. It’s so true that growing up in the church you’re told as a woman and even a little girl that what you have on and what you do can make a man “sin” or stumble and it’s your fault if they have impure thoughts. I grew up with a lot of guilt and thankfully have worked through a lot of that over the years. I appreciate yall talking about your evangelical years and how you moving away from it.
This episode was amazing! The whole series was incredible, but getting to hear Jessie and Christy talk about their experiences was really special. On the off chance either of you ladies see this- thank you so much and you’re wonderful women! It’s easy to tell that you’re both strong and insightful people ☺️✌🏼
But honestly though, if he cut the hair and beard off back to where he used to have it when he was young, he’d look exactly the same lol. He aged well, but his head would still look awkward without all of that hair. Lol
I'm only just listening to this, and let me just take a sec to thank you all for sharing this. I've been married for 15 years, and our intimacy has gone stagnant. Hearing what you guys do to keep your relationships strong is allowing me to reflect on myself, and want to do better. Thank you
I'm marrying my highschool sweetheart next year. And even tho we haven't waited, it's really really nice to hear this perspective of people who waited, and to hear reassurance that fun doesn't end when you grow up. For a very very long time, I had this idea that once you're married you stop having "fun" s*x, most likely because I also grew up in that purity culture shame sphere.
We need more from the ladies!!! Please have them on more often! I related to Jessie when she was like “ok… this is alright I guess..” from the first time. Everyone makes it out like it’s going to be the most romantic thing ever, but really the first time it’s just moving parts. It gets better with time, and yes, the “aging like fine wine” statement is true.
Jessie and Christy's relationship is something that honestly, is a deep part of the reasons these guys are still doing their thing, the wives care and listening to each other in this conversation is beautiful.
I was not prepared to learn that Rhett loves to eat the box. And he has always been so fine. I needed to pause the video to process that. Jessie is a lucky woman. Con😭grat😭ulat😭ions😭!
I have really come to love and respect these men even more since they started doing the podcasts. I really got to know them better with the deconstruction videos. The podcasts exploring their sexuality has shown another side of their souls. I love to hear it and I am so proud of them. Also, Rhett, you the man! Mad respect for how empathetic and appreciative he is of the feminine form. Hearing him talk about how passionate he is about cunnilingus and admiring the vulva may sound awkward to some people. I couldn't stop smiling. It's beautiful to see that kind of passion. You can tell he really adores his wife and wants to listen to her. I'm proud of you boys. :) Also props to the ladies for being brave. I'm sure they were not exactly excited to do this and there was a lot of hesitance.
As a newer listener, it was hard to differentiate when Jessie and Christy were talking. Just something I recommend is highlighting their image when they are speaking or something that shows who is speaking at the moment on the youtube video.
Thank you Christy and Jessie! I know we’re just a bunch a strangers to y’all, but y’all sharing your experience was honestly very validating. Thank you for willing to be so open. I wish this episode was a 2 part! I’d love to learn more about their perspective

Christy...what a journey, and to know that you are one of the rare peoples that even sought therapy for their kids sake is a huge testament to the wonderful parent and person you seem to be...I wish my mother had cared enough to do the same.
Never did I think that the guys who eat weird stuff on the internet would produce something so meaningful. I feel sort of silly, but I am actually tearing up. I really needed to hear some of the things Jessie said and probably needed to hear it from a fellow woman. I appreciate them coming on and being so vulnerable. Lol! I hadn't noticed until I glanced at this comment, then sure enough! They are making grave decisions about the fate of the universe here
Idea for Future Podcast Episode: Rhett and Link talk about their first year of marriage. The ups and downs of that first year and where they are in their marriage today.
Yes! That would be amazing?
Love this idea
Yes! And then bring on their wives to share their perspectives too!
PLEASE RHETT AND JESSIE
huge props to Jessie and Christy for contributing their perspective, takes a lot of courage in our patriarchal/puritanical culture. They could totally have their own podcast, I'd listen to every episode
@Er-Teeus it’s the programming
Wouldn't it be fun for just one week seeing Jessie and Christie switch places with Rhett & Link on Good Mythical Morning? Watching them play where in the world, and shuffleboard, and ranking foods? It would be fun!
It would be fun if they're up for it!
Yes!!!!!!
I would love to see that. 1 week wife takeover lol
A lot of pressure for them tho
That's a great idea!
I love how they all admit to and are fans of going to therapy. The communication between the guys and their wives is something to be envied.
This is the first time I've actually heard Jessie and Christy. They could easily make their own show. They have pretty much the same sense of humor as R&L. LOL
Wait I'd love that😭
Like a little podcast, just audio or something, and they share their life experiences and what it's like being them. I'd love to know, especially being together BEFORE GMM, during, and after. What it's like having kids during this, their views on religion and what not.
Omg please😭 there isn't many big RUclipsrs who was with someone, even married, before the start of their channel! What an interesting perspective I'd love to see
I'd take like a monthly podcast or something even!
RIGHT?! When can we get their show?
theyre both in one of the episodes of the Saturday show Stevie had
They have a sense of humor, but they’re way more dry-humored and not as open as Rhett and Link. They’ve got a little irritated a couple of times at the questions that were being asked.
Just like the Try Guys. The Try Wives have so much more to offer the world of podcasts than the Try Guys who ae just there for the lols.
this is so valuable to hear. I wish I could have heard this at 14
Rhett: My entire life changed, my head exploded, I saw fireworks in my brain, it was the moment I had been waiting for my entire life
Jessie: It was anticlimactic.
Which is pretty typical in my opinion. The woman feels the invasion and pain. Eventually it does get better, but that first time...definitely different for a woman.
@@JLC48 and in that religion women usually feel a lot of shame the first time.

@@francoomarlopezlopez THISSSSS!!! It is not suppose to hurt and that’s something that I wish I would have known.
It can easily turn into a downward spiral and parents are at a loss to understand where all that is coming from.
this is a very insightful perspective
completely agree
This is exactly what happened to me.
You are so right. All the people in jail, all the people with drug problems were taught to be pure when they were young.
I love that Christie and Jessie seem just as close as Rhett and Link!!
Jessie talking about having a 'harm reduction model' and knowing/acknowledging that she would do harm really struck me and made me cry because it's such a reflective way of being a parent (that I never have had in a true or consistent way w/ my parents). It seems like it would require open communication, flexibility, willing to admit to mistakes, etc. that goes into the hard work of trying to be self aware, and I imagine that would be so empowering for her kids. Beautiful. ; u ;
Its crazy how Rhett and Link lost their accents but their wives havent.
I think it’s just their professional voices.
@@Momof4furbabies I think they've discussed it before and how they made an effort to lose the accent so they could be taken seriously. So yeah, I think you're right.
I don’t know about you, but I still hear Rhett and link’s accents a lot. Maybe they’re not *as* strong, but they’re not gone by a long shot.
I mean they haven’t lost their accents entirely. But it’s really not that crazy, they’re in show business. It’s rare for people in the entertainment business based in LA not to lose their accents.
when they use their "i'm not on camera" voices they do sound a little more southern, especially link
