It's hard for guys to be able to open up in that way to other guys because of a stigma that it must mean they want to hook up. I think the whole fanfiction stuff is A) Something that happens to pretty much any internet duo/trio/put any number of people over 1 here, and B) I don't think the people who do it (aka: write the fanfics or whatever) do it because they either "suspect" you two go at it or not, or because they "wish" you did.
I mean, I'm sure there's SOMEONE out there who does, there's all kinds of people in the planet, so odds are SOMEONE actually does, but I'm pretty sure 99% of the people who play around with fanfics and all that just do it as a reflection of their own personal fantasies and/or just for the fun of it. I don't think they're assuming the "actual Rhett and Link" are hiding some deep, secret desire for one another, so... I wouldn't worry about that.
We're humans. If something exists, we find a way to sexualize it. For better or for worse. Y'know... Monkey brains, heh.

I loved all of this, but it was incredibly validating to hear Link say he went from being closed off about them being perceived as gay to him being open to people thinking he was not straight. I thought I noticed that evolution over the last 5-4 years I've watched the show and thought he seemed borderline homophobic in earlier seasons when it came to alluding to them being anything other than platonic friends. After listening to their episodes about their previous religion it makes so much sense. I wondered if they were aware of que*rbaiting as well. I've never felt they've played into it too much, but I wondered if they were aware of being such an often shipped fictional pairing. They're not the first duo to be perceived that way and they won't be the last, so Link coming around to understand he didn't need to outright reject it is phenomenal. Rhett understanding the difference between "telling" someone their own sexuality vs. the fantasy of fan fiction is even better. What an episode. A big psychological part of that fan fiction is that a lot of people have not experienced true, healthy and long friendships like you guys have. So they genuinely don't understand how it works and assume there HAS to be more to it.

You guys have earned a standing ovation. This was an incredible journey to take with you both, and see how it both mirrored and differed from mine, a gender queer, gay gal who grew up in the bible belt. What a beautiful story, and thank you so much for sharing. Such an honor.

Holy shit thank you guys especially link this episode. I grew up the same way as you, down south in Mississippi, my mother was divorced twice when I was young, and the abandonment thing with the lover jealousy just made me realize why I sometimes feel that way about ridiculous things and my spouse. Thank you for helping me realize what that is. Makes perfect sense.

I love the openness of this conversation and especially Rhett's willingness to elaborate on his self exploration. A lot of kids are doing this much more freely now and I think it is so much more emotionally healthy for them to be able to allow themselves that. Not to say that Link wasn't, I love that he shows that not everyone needs to explore that thought process and that it's all normal. So many accolades for the open conversations.

Rhett admitting he's attracted to transwomen just made me appreciate these 2 so much more. I love you guys and have for such a long time. But the vulnerability and truth you've shared with us in the last few months has been so awesome. Finding out that you're real people and seeing how much you've grown over your lives (and in the decade I've been watching you) is just so cool. Thank you for this whole series (and the deconstruction series too!).
