    THAT'S how you start an all day concert at 12 noon. The very first song and they get the crowd up. Who else could do that? 2 more songs and then walk off saying "Right, follow that!". Queen won the day and Quo were a clear second!

    • @docgonzales
      @docgonzales 3 года назад +3

      Queen won the day? Thats a bit of a retrospective look, as a teen in 85 there were a lot of 'gee Queen were better than I remembered for an old group' , they were considered washed up chart wise and lots of my friends were hoping for more current bands to get a run. The consensus was U2 smashed it out of the park, this Quo song was the perfect start, the USA concert was not a patch on the english crowd and feel, and Queen were the best of the 'oldies' from the '70's.

      @@docgonzales Queen were great as were Quo and U2, but to me the set that goes under the radar when people talk abot Live Aid was Bowie. Great set, great choice of songs and the crowd really got up for it, and I am not really a great Bowie fan either.

      The Who, Bowie, Dire Straights, Queen, Quo. All better than U2 could ever be.@@docgonzales

    For me they made the day by setting the tempo and the full audience moving, not bad for a band that were thought of as dinosaurs at the time. They will always be floor filers with old fashioned rock n roll and the only way to start a party.

    It was every bit as good as it looks on screen. This was the opening song of Live Aid. One of the best days of my life.

    It's the opening of Live Aid. That's why the crowd is so big. They did three songs. This one is a cover, was written by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame. Status Quo is/was big in Europe. Just luv them.

    One of my all time favourite bands, although this is far from their best song - their albums from 1970 - 1976 were superb, after that a bit more patchy but still some great stuff & always great, and much heavier live 🤘

    And THAT's what you call...
    Good ol fashioned, foot stomping Rock n Roll
    It would've been impossible to "kick off" in any better way and set the mood for what was to follow.

    The first time I saw Quo on stage it was in 1981 in France. The sound volume was DEAFENING! A band extremely known in Europe but never in your country.

    Not only a fun song, but a fun band! They are very down-to-earth and play for the love of it. They've had many incarnations, some of which haven't always been as favourable to some fans than others. But they've always had the same, old philosophy of getting the crowds up and bopping with their no nonsense blues/boogie style of rock 'n' roll. 'Paper Plane', is another by them which shows off their relentless 12 bar boogie style.

    This performance in 1985, Status Quo were finished working together, they had reformed especially for this performance. However on the back of this, they were contractually obliged to make another album and so in 1986 they reformed with new bass player John Rhino Edwards and on drums Jeff Rich, as Francis Rossi (Singer and Lead Guitar) wouldn't work with Alan Lancaster (Bass Player)anymore. They ended up with the In The Army Now album, and still rocking.

    Consider this, Quo tickets are now starting to come out for the 2024 European tour and all 15 venues in Germany are sold out, the UK tickets go on sale next week, a band that started in the early '60s and have toured every year from the beginning, what other band could match that.

    As said in previous comments the mighty Quo opened live aid in 85, such a crowd pleaser. They had constant hits in the UK and Europe for decades but never seemed to make it in the States, surprisingly coz it was basically bluesy, boogie rock n roll. Please try Caroline, Down,Down or Mystery song to name a few. Thanks for playing this xxx

    Ok, so fine reaction as always. I gave a loud too fkn true to your "can we get crowds back" as I haven't worked since March and we're locked down until Feb at least and Brexit means working in Europe just got harder. Keep up the guid work bonny lass. From a 64yr old live sound engineer in a chilly Scotland. 🌞

      Fogerty couldn’t get the Quo groove and feel in a million years, that’s what separates the songs. Fogerty has one of the best rock voices i ever heard but Quo knock his version out the water as a whole.
