- Revelate ambassador and 5-time Tour Divide racer, Lael Wilcox, breaks down her bike and bag setup, packing list, and a few tid bits about the race itself.
Lael currently holds the women's record for the Tour Divide at 15 and a half days. This year, she's aiming to break the men's record at 14 days!

I can not imagine that Lael has one single enemy on this planet. She is an amazing role model for humanity.
On particularly brutal parts of the Baja Divide, she has plenty of enemies who curse her and Nicholas for designing that route! Of course, those feelings do subside once one has finally rolled into somewhere with a cold beer or shower.

Thanks for sharing this, Revelate. This is Chris, the spork guy from humangear mentioned in the video. It was a such a treat to meet Lael as she rode into town here in Bend, OR. Lael and Rue's film "I Just Want to Ride" was a huge inspiration to me riding the TD in 2022 (and my Spinelock, Magtank 2000, and Pronghorn drybag all went the distance!). I remember closely watching Lael's pack video for the 2019 race and I'm sure many will take notes from this one as well. Go, Lael! Don't forget to eat some ice cream on the way, and, yes, our GoBites Uno makes a great tire lever, too!!! 🙂

Hola Lael, I hope everything goes great in the race! I was going to say the biby looks like one I used to own from Mountain Laurel Designs... I also used to own a pad from Klymit (Inertia x frame) which only needs 5 breaths to inflate (literally) but you might already tried one in the past ;)

I couldn't help but notice the irony in her gear setup though, Revelate bags on Specialized EPIC. Most people don't know this but Revelate Designs was originally founded as Epic Designs. You guessed it, Specialized does what does and sent a cease and desist letter to Eric and instead of getting into a legal battle with the big bullies Specialized are, changed the name to Revelate Designs. I had no idea Specialized owned the word epic🤷♂️

It's amazing to me that such a sweet and affable person can be such a bad-ass on the bike. Lael is amazing personified.
Can't stress this enough: Wear the tracker on your body. If you crash and become incapacitated you may not be able to reach the tracker on your bike to hit the SOS button. (I use breathable Hi-Vis vest with some handy velcro tabs to fasten a Spot on my back just below the collar. Good view of the sky, comfortable and always on me.)
For other riders yeah. I think a) Lael may have film crew with her often and b) she may have an alternate form of wearable tech that has accident awareness. not sure if wahoo can do it. many modern phones and gps navi devices have it as an option on the top tier stuff.

I got great one to one advice from Leal when I started looking into ultra distance rides and races. I copied many of her setup suggestions and try my best at riding with the same ethos and faff free mentality that she brings to the ride. I don’t win I doubt that would ever possibly happen but I do finish. I do carry a bit much but that’s life.
My big offer to all is to use a satellite tracker on any big rides where you out on a limb. They are excellent for friends and family to track you for safety too and they have a SOS feature should you need the feds to come get you.

Lael, a pro tip, you frame, saddle and handlebar bags, can all be cold washed then airdried after every epic ride, I know this works as my missus will make me sleep outside the house if I didn't.
What sleeping pad is that? A thermarest something?
