- Who is Bailey Quarters?
The shy yet ambitious commercial scheduler at WKRP at first was a mystery to the boss Arthur Carlson.
Her character grew over the four seasons the show was on the air.
By the end she was a mainstay executive at the station and maybe the first to leave for better opportunities to advance her career.
She was one of the most beautiful people on television in her day, but not a heavyweight actor. She was still part of what made WKRP one of the great sitcoms.
The thing is, she's not a heavyweight actor because even on screen, what we're seeing is a lot of Jan Smithers, in real life. A shy, unassuming soul, beautiful both outside and in.
@@Trev0r98 I think that's a good point. 'Great actors' are not necessarily great people - the craft requires artifice and ego and she seemed to have too little of both.
I always loved how Bailey and Jennifer were friends and confidantes, never rivals.
There's a special place in hell for women that don't support each other.
Both women were secure and confident in their own beauty and behavior.
I could look at and listen to Bailey all day long. Her eyes were hypnotic.
Amen! And her sweet melodic voice too. Bailey rules!
Look at recent photos of her. Those eyes still sparkle even in her seventies
The prettiest woman ever on TV my favorite Bailey scene was when she sings the Nestles Farful song!
Jan Smithers, beautiful.❤
She is way hotter than Lonnie Anderson
Jan Smithers was fuckin HOT!
"Fever is a bum and a reprobate!"
"I know!"
For some reason that really cracked me up.
Ya, just the way she knowingly laughs/giggles at the obvious just came across as so genuine, 2 words delivered perfectly, sweet & funny, but that was just Bailey being Bailey!!👍🤣
The expression on her face was what sold it.
Hands down the prettiest girl ever on TV!
Jan Smithers was priceless.
You've gotta Luv Bailey wholesome indeed!!!!
That cracked me up when Les Nessman said that.
Rip to both Frank Bonner and Howard hedsman
Never could & never will get enough of Bailey. A TRUE GODESS!!!
What a total babe she was ! many, many fantasies back in the days !
My girl, Bailey !
Johnny was STUPID not to pursue Bailey especially when SHE showed intrest in him
That’s true. Johnny and Bailey should have ended up together, and Jennifer with Les Nessman.
I think of the scene with Baily roaming the halls of WKRP every time I hear, "After the Love is Gone"
To this day, I've never forgiven Johnny for standing Baily up. I would have given just about anything to go see a Bogart movie with her. But, for me, the song that always makes me think of Baily Quarters is "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John. From the episode "The Americanization of Ivan".
@@deedubya286 Bailey was shy but SHE asked out Johnny who was easily ten years older than her! Johnny missed out, but that's life and old girlfriends showing up like they are telepathic
That scene hit me hard. Couldn't pick a better, more heart-breaking song if you tried.
@@deedubya286 In Johnny's defense, at no point did he ever clue in to the idea that it was an actual "date". Still, what a missed opportunity.
So--- I am not the only one who thinks and feel that way. THANK YOU!!!!!
Had a big crush on her........More Bailey and less Nessman, please........
A WKRP post highliting Bailey. What a treasure. Thanks so much!
My favorite character next to Dr. Johnny Fever.
5:58 I would never Ever stand up Bailey like that. 😢
Was waiting for "Amazing Grace." Glad to see you didn't disappoint, Dave. #longliveBaileyQuarters
Fastest 9 minutes and 20 seconds I’ve spent on RUclips in a long time! Thanks for putting these together!
WKRP was the best
Americas Sweetheart
I always wanted Bailey and Andy to end up together but never got it. I know she had the hots for Johnny Fever but I feel like there was an attraction between her and Andy.
It seemed like the writers knew they were the best potential pairing out of everyone. But they also had a recurring subplot in the last season where Bailey would be repulsed by Andy’s playboy antics.
Bailey deserved her own show
this video shows that bailey is a sweet nice girl but she will fight back if you try to bully her!!
Such a beautiful voice.
Bailey and Johnny should have had a better date.
Bailey: gets the first hit
Bailey: good shortstop (Snoopy played shortstop, so that's cool)
Liked the fact that the big guy always forgot her name lol
But he always liked her every time he met again for the "first" time!🤣👍
More Bucky Dornster!
@@hankkingsley9300 "I don't want any problems with unions, especially that one!" 🤣 and don't forget, Speed kills, Del!!🤪
@@bryankautz826 Speed Kills Del Film at 11:00.
4:07 I could listen to that voice all day. 😍😍
Where have these clips been hiding?? Funny clips from the show, and featuring bailey, what could be better?
God I loved that character Bailey Quarters , I always thought when I was a teenager, imagine being with her and getting married Her name would be Bailey Bailey, nah she would just keep her maiden name. God she was absolutely beautiful snd adorable!!? GaryBailey KingofDarkness
I loved watching Jan on this show every week. She was such a beautiful woman! I think prettier than Loni! A real down to earth and quiet character! Very funny also! I did not care for the new show! It was not the same!
Smothers never acted in anything in her life before WKRP.
Great stuff loved her on the show
More Bailey, less Nessman. 😊😇
Once again, a great bunch of clips.
Thanx, Dave, for sharing!
You're welcome, it was a good show.
Bailey was so beautiful. I favored her way more than Jennifer.
Does Bailey's natural beauty even exist on TV anymore?
Yes, "best looking!"
The way Mr. Carlson asks again and again who Bailey is reminds me of Mr. Burns, the owner of the nuclear plant where Homer works on the Simpsons, who never remembers Homer's name. Burns is forever asking his assistant, "Who is that man?" And his assistant's name is Mr. Smithers. And, of course, Jan Smithers played Bailey. Was this a subtle reference to WKRP? Did Matt Groening have a crush on Bailey too?
4:56 you are very welcome ;)
Yea I slowed down that whole softball game scene because of the jiggle.
Goddess
HOW could Johnny forget about Bailey?
In the words of Mama Carlson.. “He’s a reprobate and a bum.”
In 1966, Jan Smithers had skipped out of High School for the day and was at the beach - when a _Newsweek_ photographer saw her. Her picture ended up on the cover of the magazine for an article on "Teenagers".
.
I had a tremendous crush 🥰 on her 💕
My god she was pretty
I really like Jennifer, but, I'm a Bailey man.
Jan Smithers was the most gorgeous Maryann ever!! ❤
"SHUT UP, HERB!"
That was the exact moment I fell in love with her. She was certainly fetching, and her personality was a treat to behold, but when she stood up and defended herself... yes, THAT was the moment.
Aw! I love this Bailey montage. I always fancied myself a Bailey. 😄
Thanks! She grew a lot during the show
True story here & its on youtube for those who don't believe me. There's an interview Gary Sandy aka "Andy Travis" did when talking about the WKRP cast & he said about Bailey, "Though at times you couldn't tell it due to her wardrobe, but Bailey was STACKED!!! True story too. When I heard Gary say that, I knew he was right, because in looking at Bailey not only is she STACKED but she's also a bona fide MAJOR BABE!!! Makes that blonde look like Mighty Joe Young's armpits. Just saying.
I saw the same interview.
Gary must have been a busy boy back then.
@@DaveNarn If I was around Bailey I would've been busy too! hee hee hee. lol
Bailey Quarters
I always 🥰 Bailey.
Herb is such a dolt, lol!
When Venus asks Bailey to sing, Herb starts quoting a pop-song by the Carpenters called ‘Sing’
Freaking idiot :)
7:57 What did Baily do that almost got her fired?
Herb quoting "Sing" by the Carpenters and getting punched by Venus was hilarious!
Bailey wrote a news report about sick kids at a children’s hospital. Using some journalistic license, she created a fictional boy named Bobby to represent all the kids. Les read her report on the air as fact. Bailey thought she would be fired for falsifying her story.
From the book, America’s Favorite Radio Station WKRP in Cincinnati by Michael B. Kassel;
“Bailey offers her resignation, Andy refuses to accept it, saying that even though a woman was fired at the Washington Post for a similar incident involving an eight year old junkie, WKRP has a different form of journalistic integrity than the Washington Post.”
@@DaveNarn Ahhh ok, I get it. Thanks for explaining!
Loved her, but not the Annie Hall wardrobe.
i wish she were in the new WKRP as well
