Welcome to Standing Stone Kennels! In this video we talk about how to stop your dog from pulling on leash! Here we are going to demonstrate two different methods with Thunder! This guy is a fantastic young dog and needs some help to stop pulling on lead! We start with a positive only method by marking and rewarding when Thunder turns around and gives us his focus. Then move pressure on and pressure off training with the EasyLead® to almost eliminate Thunders pulling instantly! Watch to see how he does with both training methods! Comment below which you think will work best for your dog!

I really appreciate you explaining to the nearest detail on pressure vs. non-pressure and the type of movement to use. Our 12-week old lab is pulling like crazy on walks. It seems like you all use this when the doggos get older. Is there an age too young for the easy lead method?

The check cord technique in the beginning has another name with a slight variation: The Attention Square. You simply walk in a square pattern about 50 to 75 feet for each side but ONLY walk when the dog is NOT paying attention to you. You get a nice gentle natural correction when the dog hits the end of the cord and you happen to be walking away from him. Soon the dog will naturally focus on you and follow you around the square. All you have to do is look forward and walk with your mouth shut. From there, I like/prefer the Smith Command Lead. It creates the same point of contact on the neck as an electronic collar does and when used gently by holding with the fingers and thumb as opposed to a closed hand, the dog will learn how to heel extremely quickly. In all, this was a great video that demonstrated proven techniques that when combined with consistency and PATIENCE, will lead to success for your dog. I encourage everyone to study videos and training such as this and then blend techniques from different trainers to find what works best for your dog. And always follow this thought: Set your dog up for success!! If YOU do your part, you will have a well trained dog that is HAPPY to do what you ask. Have a great day SSK and everyone watching!

Great to see this video today! I started the EasyLead with our almost-16 week old today. This morning, she protested / bucked like a horse, but after another short session at noon, she was trotting at my side like a princess at our evening walk. This technique really gets them focused!

So much like dressage but for dogs...relax, soften, attention into you, one step at a time and yielded to pressure, at the dog's learning pace and building through negative reinforcement and reward. Utilizing stopping the forward motion, while harnessing the motion cultivating desire until the attention and action is in your hand. As little as possible as much as necessary, creating lightness. EXCELLENT demo

What is the leash you used for leash training that you put on the neck with the additional ring plus the springy rope that you can turn into a muzzle? I have a new lab pup at 13 weeks!

    Great vid, thanks. 😊
At 10:03, Thunder get super distracted and becomes unresponsive so Ethan pulls him in, constant tension. Normally, would that have been the time to stop (before pulling him in) ?
Or go int a very close position (like heel) and allow hime to just sit there?
Or go to head ‘Figure8’ / Halti and add more training - outer circles etc ?
I have your lead, Luna (field ch. bloodline, English Pointer) hates the Fig8.
She walks circles, heels on a ling line (on concrete).
But she will not walk nicely. Would love to transfer the longline dog to a leash but l dont seem able to.... ??
Last few mins with the Fig8 on Thunder was great (typing & watching).
    Thanks for all the content.

Why start with the long check cord??? I figured a “shorter leash” would be better.

    • @HlastaCaled
      @HlastaCaled 3 года назад +1

By staring with a longer check cord the dog has more time to choose to come closer before they hit the end of the cord. If you contine with this portion (poistive reward "only") as the dog improves at closer and closer distances you can give them less and less lead until you and your dog are able to do the attention on leash game on a standard lead (4' - 6').
And as demonstrated if you open your traning with time on the long check cord handler and dog can practice engagement and "shake the crazzies out" before getting down to buisnes.

Id rather just thump on my dog 😆. This is way to difficult... I love biting, slapping, and squeezing my boy when he doesn't listen. I equally love rewarding. Treats, pets, praise and visual excitement and even thrashing. My Lab is a asshole so my way doesn't work for the first time ever. So now I try your way 😔. My dog only listens when Im pissed off and he knows I'm going to tune him up. He only listens for 10 seconds at a time.... I recently started trying your way and bought my first correction collar. He will come immediately when I beep him. The most Ive shocked him is a 5 and Ive only done it a dozen times or so... now if I put it on him he just stands by me and wont do anything and hes all scared... very frustrating. I hate how the e-collar makes dogs look all timid and weird. Do they ever out grow that? Like that ecollar video of the yellow lab. You say he looks comfortable. Id say hes tripping on the fact that he has his ecollar on. I hate that look and believe the fear is interfering with them learning.
